BSOD after installing NVIDIA driver (nvlddmkm.sys error)

Hi, I hope I'm posting this in the right place.
A few days ago I purchased an MSI GS60 044 (970m) laptop with Windows 8 preinstalled on it. I have an intense hatred for Windows 8 so I decided to do a clean install of Windows 7 using a disk I own. Everything was going well until I installed the NVIDIA graphics driver. The computer would run sluggishly and then Blue Screen with an error regarding "nvlddmkm.sys."
I got the drivers from MSI's website and followed the installation order on that page. I even tried downloading the latest driver from NVIDIA's website, but I got the same results.
Is anyone familiar with this issue? Is there anything I can do?
Thanks!
- Daniel

I really appreciate the help! I ended up reinstalling windows again and this time before installing the NVIDIA driver I installed the BIOS update that's provided under the "BIOS" tab on the GS60's support page. It's been installed for about 2 hours now with no crashes, so I hope that means it's fixed. I could just be getting lucky though, I'll post again tomorrow with results.
Unfortunately, now my LAN and WLAN drivers have stopped working. When I troubleshoot, windows says that there aren't any drivers detected. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the bigfoot and intel drivers but neither are working. I just can't catch a break with this thing. >_<
In the event that I do have to send it to MSI, wouldn't the computer not be covered in their service anymore since I installed a different OS/formatted the original drives? I'm really hoping there isn't a hardware issue since I ordered the laptop brand new off of ebay.
Thanks again for all of the help!

i have nvidia geforce 8400 gs card, after i uninstalled all other drivers, installed nvidia,nvidia-utils, then nvidia-config,then installed vpdau-video,then restart
i noticed that hardware and deamon checks screen after boot became huge letters as if no driver installed yet, and when i run lxterminal i noticed black window on the top left of the screen exactly the same size as the terminal window, and when i browse using chromium and the page contains flash video, the video window image stays on the screen.

I think current nvidia driver is broken - I have these black windows at some rare situations also (under KDE without effects; no under OpenBox). IIRC, nvidia developers mentioned somewhere in Arch bugs system they are aware of the problem.

  • [SOLVED]black screen after installing nvidia driver from official repo

    Hi!
I have just made a clean install this afternoon and I really can not get the drivers from nvidia in the official rep to work. After booting it just gives me blackscreen.
    What I have tried:
    1. Blacklisted nouveau.
    2. Doublechecked mkinitcpio.conf for nouveao under "MODULES" section.
    3. Rebuilt initramfs by doing
    mkinitcpio -p linux
    4. i tried with a "nomodeset" by entering it in grub.
    5. Last I tried to remove nouveau by doing
    pacman -Ss nouevau
    pacman -R mesa
pacman -Rc mesa (here I double checked the packages and nothing really vital for a full boot of a non-graphical interface (TTY1) is gone)
After Pressing enter from grub I can not see anythin,  except from some text that flashes by, Something about checking /dev/sda6 for any errors... Except from that, nothing. Just a black screen.
I am writing this from my phone right now, please understand if I am doing any spelling errors    (too lazy to chroot ehen in my bed and PC turned off for the night )

So you have one of those dual GPU machines? Then you need to read the Bumblebee or Optimus pages on the wiki.
And mentioning that in your intial post would have helped: See How To Ask Questions The Smart Way.
I never really tried the intel gpu, nor did I knew that my mb had that compability to actually run with that, since I can not even change to only use the display connection from my cpu :0
Besides, I never really will use the built-in gpu on my proc unless my graphics card crashes, and if that happens, I can just create a chroot and read-on about bumblebee and such
I am right now writing this from my Desktop
I have some minor issues with my KDE environment, the text being so small I can barely read it inside of applications.... except from that I have used "Settings" to change it inside the KDE environment :b
So I can live with it, unless it happens inside games aswell
Anyway, I just did not knew about it, otherwise I would have read 'bout it and tried to fix it before i came here
I know how it is when ya dont get enough info about a problem like "This program won't work, why?" (I am the PC wizard amongst my friends, so I know ya should try everything, use google, and most of all, do not panic, it can and will be fixed :3
But ty anyway for the suggestion Jason, appreciate it!
will mark this thread as solved now

  • [SOLVED] No sound after installing NVIDIA driver

I have just got a new graphics card (NVIDIA GT 610) and I have installed the proprietary driver for it. My PC has in-built Intel GPU. I had a problem with that that was fairly straight forward to fix. I blacklisted the i915, intel_agp modules as suggested here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … grated_GPU. But I now have no sound. I am almost certain that this is because there is an in-built sound card that I have now blacklisted because before I blacklisted those modules sound seemed to be working fine.
I'm not sure of any great diagnostics tools for sound but speaker-test outputs:
    speaker-test 1.0.27.2
    Playback device is default
    Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 1 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1022:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
Playback open error: -2,No such file or directory
    And aplay -l outputs:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****

    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

If anyone has any ideas on how I could go about fixing this or what I can try playing with I would very thankful.

That hasn't work but I'm not sure whether I did it properly.
    I did cat /proc/asound/modules:
    0 snd_hda_intel
    1 snd_intel8x0
    and set /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf to
    options snd slots=snd_hda_intel,snd_intel8x0
    options snd_hda_intel=0
    options snd_intel8x0=1
I'm not sure if its of any use but lsmod | grep '^snd' | column -t ouput:

  • Lenovo G510 BSOD on Windows 7 after installing RST Driver

    Hello,
I was hoping to figure this out without having to post but unfortunately I cannot seem to get around the problem. I purchased my laptop (Lenovo G510) last month and immediately upgraded to a SSD and then downgraded to Windows 7. There have been no problems until I was installing the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver (Link to Driver).
After installing the driver and rebooting I get the BSOD at the main Windows login screen in any of the boot modes (Regular, Safe, Safe with Network, and Safe with Command). The error dump shows that the issue is linked to itaStorF.sys. Normally I would not need this driver installed and I would just use the Windows generic driver but I have decided to replace the ODD with a HDD Caddy with the 1TB HDD that came with the laptop.
I have seen others say that they have used a HDD Caddy with no issues but I get the BSOD error with this driver even before I installed the Caddy. I can install a more up to date driver from Intel but they eject the HDD Caddy when it is detected and they are meant for Windows 8.
I can provide more information if needed as well as error logs. I would greatly appreciate the help from the community! Thanks!
    Quick Computer Info:
    OS: Windows 7 Professional
    SSD: Crucial M550
    HDD: Western Digital WD10JPCX
    HDDCaddy: Link to Caddy page
    Edit:
For some additional information, I have done each of the lenovo diagnostic tests, check disks, and memory tests which all came back as healthy.

The issue seem unrelated to the Instant Client. (Looks like you installed from the "full" Database Client product.)
Anyway, is that Windows 7 64-bit? Then, possibly, the software you installed was 32-bit and the driver shows up in the 32-bit MS ODBC admin tool (in wow64 subsystem, for 32-bit apps).

  • Can't install nvidia driver on V580

    Hello!
I try install nvidia driver on my V580a (Intel driver is already installed and all work fine) but after I install optimus drivers in device manager (win 7 x64) i see that (standard vga device). Then I try install nvidia drivers for my gt 645 but  from nvidia site but he fails.
So how can I installl  right driver so my discrete video card woud be recognized in device manager?
And must I install driver for GT 645M or I must install only optimus driver?
    Thanks

    Hi Alex,

  • "dependency cycle detected" warnings when installing nvidia driver

I'm getting two "dependency cycle detected" warnings when installing nvidia driver on a fresh arch system:
xorg-server will be installed before its nvidia-libgl dependency
harfbuzz will be installed before its freetype2 dependency
    Is that normal?

It's not 'normal' but if everything is working fine, no need to worry. They're just warnings, not errors.

  • BSOD After Installing Boot Camp 5640 Drivers on Win7 x64

I get a BSOD after installing the Boot Camp 5640 drivers on Windows 7 x64 Professional due to "CACHE_MANAGER". If install the drivers individually, this does not happen (provided I don't run bootcamp.exe).
This wouldn't be a problem except that I can't get the trackpad working properly without running setup.exe or bootcamp.exe.

    what is your exact rMBP
check here and make sure you are trying to install the right boot camp pkg for your windows version and machine

  • After installing CF10, I get this error msg,"This page can't be displayed"

After installing CF10, I get this error msg when I try to access the Administrator page,"This page can't be displayed"
I'm running Window Server 2003, 64 bit version with IIS 6.0.
    Before I installed CF10, I uninstalled CF8.

@Len said, “ BTW, there is no 64 Bit entry under Application Pools.”.
I suspect @Anit was assuming you were using IIS 7, in which case you could check the IIS app pool (advanced settings, for the app pool used by the site you are browsing) to see if it was set to “enable 32-bit applications: false”, assuming CF is configured as 64-bit, or if CF is configured 32-bit, then you would want that to be set to “enable 32 bit applications: true”.
It seems you’re using IIS 6, and there is no GUI means in the IIS 6 control panel to change the bitness of the app pool. There are various means discussing how to do that on the web, as well as a blog entry from Ben Forta, from back when people were deploying CF 7 (which was 32-bit only) 64-bit Windows and IIS:
    http://www.forta.com/blog/index.cfm/2006/2/6/connecting-coldfusion-mx-7-to-64bit-iis-6
For those on IIS 7, here is at least one page showing how to configure it in IIS 7 (has no reference to CF, but I had a hard time finding any existing blog entry that showed screenshots of configuring this feature):
    https://help.webcontrolcenter.com/KB/a1114/how-to-enable-32-bit-application-pool-iis-7-ded icatedvps.aspx
But back to your error, @Len, if setting the bitness of the IIS app pool is not the solution, I’ll note that there can be many other reasons that you get that error. What are you seeing in the Windows Event log (using “event viewer”), or the IIS logs (especially httperr.log), or the CF logs (\coldfusion10\cfusion\logs)?

  • BSOD after installing Boot Camp, AMD Radeon 6630M driver issue

I have reinstalled Windows using Boot Camp twice now and get a blue screen right after installing the Boot Camp drivers and restarting.
I am installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my Mac mini 2011 edition. I created an install disk in Lion and used the option to copy the Boot Camp drivers into the disk.
I have narrowed the problem down to Apple's driver for the AMD Radeon 6630M graphics which my Mac mini has. The driver will install without errors but then the blue screen appears on next startup. If I use safe mode to uninstall the AMD driver, the blue screen goes away, but the display resolution is very low.
I checked for driver updates from AMD, but there are none for the 6630M.
    Anyone else having this issue?

    Hi,
I have installed Windows using Boot Camp and I also get the blue screen of death right after installing the Boot Camp drivers and restarting.
I am installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on a i7 Mac mini 2011 edition. I created the USB install thumb within Lion's Boot Camp, and got downloaded the latest Bootcamp drivers (bootcamp 4.0). I connect the mac mini to a 24" iiyama screen with a HDMI cable. I don't have a DVI cable anymore unless i would have checked that point too.
I have also narrowed the problem down to Apple's driver for the AMD Radeon 6630M graphics which my Mac mini also has. The driver will install without errors but then the blue screen appears on next startup. If I use safe mode to uninstall the AMD driver or renaming the atikmdag.sys file (the main cause of the crash), the blue screen goes away, but the display can't get the effects such as Aero interface.
AMD provides official drivers that don't recognize its own 6630m graphic card with Apple, then doesn't install any up-to-date driver... Only Apple's AtiGraphics setup program will install the drivers...but it makes Windows 7 crash at each boot.
Thanks for your technical skills or info to come over this issue (or releasing a bootcamp update ?)

  • T540p BSOD after installing driver with ThinkVantage System Update

    Hello,
today I got my brand new T540p. Its was delivered without OS (Lenovo Campus). I downloaded the ethernet drivers  and the TV System Update on a usb flash drive with my old thinkpad. After installing Windows 8 Pro, i installed the ethernet drivers to connect to the internet. Then i started the TV System Update and let it install all critical and optional drivers.
After the all drivers have been installed the machine wants to reboot, but now i am in a reboot loop. Everytime it hangs in the screen "Windows Update 100%" and then I see the blue screen of death (Driver Power state failure) and the machine reboots again.
Does anyone else have this problem or is there a fix from lenovo?
    Thanks,
    Mat

After fresh install of win 8 I only updated drivers from windows update. Works fine so far. Upgraded to win 8.1 still no problem. Use nvidia, wifi, intel graphics driver from windows update. Windows could not install chipset drivers. So I downloaded the intel chipset drivers from lonovo. Install crashes with bsod and ending up in reboot loop. I assume it's a problem with the intel drivers from lenovo. At moment I install win 8 again and I will try to install the drivers from intel website.
