Bsod hardware acceleration nv4_disp.dll firefox 4.0 xp pro

hello,
if i use Firefox 4.0 on xp pro, the machine crashes very quickly.
the bsod says there's a problem with nv4_disp.dll
so i think it's cause of the hardware acceleration into firefox 4.0 that crashes windows xp cause of the nvidia driver.

Thanks for the info, I will investigate further.
I definately think it's the driver though, the RAM I use has been 100% stable with everything else. I have 640MB Kingmax PC133 SDRAM. I have tried going back to my 512MB using 2 sequential (same batch) 256MB SIMMs and that make no real difference.
The strange thing is, it will only happen once in a while, and during those occasions I am generally NOT doing anything special... I usually have around 90% resources free and 400MB or RAM free.... then BSOD.
I am hoping MSI will release another driver soon 30.81 is stable and released, so maybe that will fix my problems.

  • Last ditch effort to avoid BSOD due to nv4_disp.dll

    greetings-
been reading several old posts regarding the nv4_disp.dll causing the page fault in nopaged area bsod error. i have tried all drivers- the ones on the msi cd, 1.13, 2.0, and 2.03. and have tried to emperically determine the source of the crashing.
noticed that after installing xp sp1a (needed for 2.0 and 2.03), been getting the bsod.
i've memtested my ram for 6+ hours, it's all good.
i've found that xp in fat32 fs crashes more often than in ntfs. (so no use of fat32).
i've found that the mouse cursor becomes a green glob of vertical lines whenever i play an mpeg2 video in mediaplayer9 or 8, and in both directx9 or 8. (not sure if this is a factor)
before i go back to the 1.13 nforce drivers, i'm going to test out a few configurations.
    specifically:
    winxp + sp1 + 2.03
    winxp + sp1 + 2.00
    winxp + 2.03
    winxp + 2.00
    last ditch effort
    winxp + sp1 + 1.13
    winxp + 1.13
and yes, each time will be a fresh install from a reformated HD.
    questions:
what is the difference between sp1 and sp1a?
can i install 2.03 drivers without installing sp1? nvidia says that failure to do so will result in no usb 2.0 support. i don't plan on using usb 2.0.
    thanks
    joe

ok, bit the bullet and bought the antec true power 430. i was at the store, and i thought, well i've already spent $85 on the PSU, might as well purchase an FX 5200 and free up the 32MB shared memory. then i thought, well got the FX 5200 TRD128 with the "what looked really cool" media center deluxe 2 on the box and what the heck, i'll buy a dvd-rom so i can make full use of the media center (since i already had the TV@nywhere card). so i ended up doing a major overhaul of the computer and so far so good.
    thanx for the suggestions

  • Blurred of soft text until hardware acceleration is turned off

When I have hardware acceleration on in Firefox 4 (Win7 64 bit on a Dell XPS M1330 with a GeForce 8400M GS) the text appears soft and slightly blurred. As soon as I turn "use hardware acceleration where available" off under the Advanced->General preferences dialogue and restart Firefox the problem is solved, but I assume this impacts the performance. Is there anything I can do to fix?

I just had the same problem with every app that use graphic acceleration (java, 3dsmax, Firefox4...).
I found a little trick anyway : these applications use your graphic panel manager's parameters in order to render&accelerate.
So open your graphic panel, and try to find the anti-aliasing properties.
I got a HD6970 (AMD), and when I disable Morphological Anti-aliasing, everything work perfectly.
So it seems to be AA properties. So try to change the application preferences in order to avoid the program overhead it.
We haven't all the same GPU or vidcard brand, but I'm aware some graphic processes can deals with performance hit AND rendering troubles.

Mega-thread on the subject here.  It's a known issue and is being worked on by Adobe, Apple, et al.

  • Most recent version of Mozilla Firefox (Windows 7 64 Pro) will open but not display any content in the open browser window.

After logging into Laptop, Win 7 64bit Pro and launching Mozilla Firefox the browser window opens but the content is blank or black. Mouse over produces change and the only thing I can get to display is when I click in the area the Config/Setup icon would be on the tool bar.
Even uninstalled and then reinstalled the latest versions of Firefox but still getting the exact same results. Yesterday there were many Windows Updates applied to my computer but after rebooting post updates, Firefox was working fine for the entire day and evening.

hello spitcher, other users with this problem all had an embedded intel hd3000 graphics card with an old driver present. in case this also applies to you, here would be a link to update the driver, which in turn should also address the black firefox problem: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23764 (for win7 64 bit)
in case this doesn't solve the issue or does not apply to your system, start firefox into safemode '''by pressing the shift key while the application is launching''' & disable hardware acceleration in the firefox ''menu ≡ > options > advanced > general'' (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

  • Is there a way to have hardware acceleration without the text font change? + Eye straining firefox!

Is there a way to have hardware acceleration without the text font change? I remember there was a way to go into settings before and getting hardware acceleration to work without the font change. Unfortunately I lost ALL my previous setting when uninstalling the beta ver Nightly and clicking delete settings :(.
Also, I fixed a problem before where firefox was visually eye straining to me, I think it was some settings in anti-alias tuner, but I cant seem to find the right settings that puts less strain on my eyes, anyone know? Thanks ahead. Currently using FF7.

Try to toggle some Boolean gfx.font_rendering prefs on the about:config page to disable some features.<br />

    Others to try:

  • Enabling hardware acceleration distorts website text in firefox 6

When using Aurora ver. 6.0a2 (2011-05-29) I have to disable hardware acceleration. When this setting is enabled, everything visible with the program (this includes the entire GUI, websites, all text & images) is distorted. It's not that you can't see the images or read the text at all, it just appears to not be rendered correctly. When acceleration is disabled, everything is returned to it's optimal viewability (for lack of a better term).
My current relevent system specs are:
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (with all updates applied)
Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 6950
Video Card Driver: Catalyst ver. 11.5
Firefox Version: Aurora ver. 6.0a2 (2011-05-29)
Also of note, when using the official Firefox release (ver. 4.0.1), I do not have this problem. If you need any more information, I will be happy to provide it.

I have this problem with yahoo mail and Firefox 6 (no such problem with Firefox 5.0.1 and below). No other websites show this issue. When I disable hardware acceleration yahoo mail renders fine but with hardware acceleration it looks washed out in parts and patches.

  • OnePlus One: hardware accelerated mp4/h.264 not working in Firefox for Android

Videos being played via HTML5 player in Firefox for Android do not play correctly, because the hardware acceleration is not implemented correctly. Tested with latest version (14 oktober 2014); Fennec (33.0)
It seems related to the GPU (Adreno 330). The OnePlus One has the same GPU as the LG G2, and that phone has the exact same issue, as you can see here: https://support.mozilla.org/nl/questions/1022029
The videos play fine in Chrome for android and the also play fine in Firefox if you disable the hardware acceleration via:
    about:config -> stagefright.disable = true
    Can anyone please fix this?

In addition: I've also tried it with the latest beta (Fennec 34.0).. Same result.

  • Firefox Flash hardware acceleration broken in Windows 8 for AMD 4870

I've been having performance issues with Flash in Firefox on Windows 8 ever since I installed it, so I decided to try and get to the bottom of the issue, since Chrome's Pepper Flash plugin works flawlessly on the same machine. I decided to install Windows 7 as a dual-boot environment to do some testing, and installed the same version of Firefox (21), with all the same extensions, the same version of Flash (11.7) and the same display driver (Catalyst 13.1 Legacy). I was surprised to find that the performance issues I'd been having in Windows 8 were completely gone.
On closer inspection, that seems to be because the 'Use hardware acceleraton' checkbox is doing nothing in Windows 8. Whether it's checked or not, playing a beefy Flash video (one of Giant Bomb's HD progressive streams) uses 35-40% CPU and is pretty choppy. The exact same video, delivered via the exact same software but under Windows 7 is entirely smooth and CPU usage is around 5-10% with the checkbox ticked, and comparable to Windows 8 with hardware acceleration turned off.
In another test, I compared videos on Youtube with the information box turned on. In Windows 7 it's showing as software video rendering and accelerated video decoding regularly, changing to accelerated for both in full screen. With the exact same setup on Windows 8, it shows software rendering and decoding no matter what, with the associated higher CPU use and poorer video performance. Incidentally, reverting to Flash 10.3 on Windows 8 completely fixes the problem. Hardware acceleration works as it should in all scenarios. It seems to just be the 11 series that's affected.
Is this a known issue at all, and is there any sort of fix planned? Or is there a way to fix it now? Any help would be appreciated.

it seems that the problem might not be from adobe side after all!
    Windows 8 user,
open firefox and type   about:config      in the address bar and hit enter. Type  “webgl”  into the Filter box and then double click on the webgl.force-enabled option to change its value from false to true.
Problem solve...Radeon HD-7310 dont know for Nvidia but i assume it will work to.

I noticed when my Firefox is minimized that I can not reopen from the Dock on my MAC. So I stop Firefox and reopen, when doing so I get a mixed number of blank windows. After closing these then Firefox behaves as desired until after a bit it all happens again. I read the Windows fix and hoped hardware acceleration would fix it but it does not.

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
    '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Start Firefox in Safe Mode]''' {web link}
    While you are in safe mode;
Type '''about:preferences'''<Enter> in the address bar
    Select '''Advanced > General.'''
Look for and turn off '''Use Hardware Acceleration'''.
Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?
    Then restart.

  • Firefox 16.02 hardware acceleration osx imac started causing screen corruption

Weird screen corruption with Firefox 16.02 with hardware acceleration switched on.
iMac 11,1 Intel Core i7 2.8 GHz running OSX 10.6.8 with ATI Radeon HD 4850 display hardware.
Some bizarre effects like a surround on two sides (top and right) of main Firefox window with elements captured from the top and side of main screen which on occasions flash at high speed and also a mouse focal point offset
I've tried Firefox safe mode and extensions plugins disabled and it definitely seems to be caused by switching hardware acceleration on as problems disappear when switched off.
Never had this problem before in several years use of Firefox until 16.02

Thanks for the link. Has something changed in FF v16.02 hardware acceleration that you are aware of that might have caused this?

Once firefox 4.o was installed, when switching to full screen while watching any internet video produced a white screen but audio still playing. Switching back to small screen has a still video but audio still going. Had to exit and and restart video or open a blank new new tab then delete it and then small screen video would play. Using a mac os 10.5. Disabling hardware acceleration did not fix. went back to firefox 3.6 and all is ok. Any help would be appreciated.

Your hardware was never designed to run that old a version of OS X, it's best to update the application or find another application that is more up to date. Installing Leopard simply will not work on your system.

  • Flash Player - Disable Hardware Acceleration - Apple TV-Mac OS 10.4.7/Firefox

    Hello all,
I have been going down a fun path getting my 1st Generation Apple TV (160 GB HD) to run Hulu natively (without PlayOn restreaming).  After fun times getting Firefox and Flash Player working, I blasted through setting up Hulu Widget to keep the video size small (Apple TV in 480p defaults to an 800x600 res).   Things look pretty good. I maxed out buffering/cache for all Hulu related sites within Global settings, this produced nice improvements.  I found a GreaseMonkey script that forces the Flash Player to always render Low Quality video.  This helps immensely at stopping stuttering with little trade off in quality.  My last piece to try to tweak video playback (aside from monkeying around with the OS X kernel) is the disable Hardware Acceleration.
BUT, I am having a major problem with mouse support or something.  Everytime I bring up the Display settings via a Right Click, I cannot uncheck "Enable hardware acceleration".  Surprisingly clicking it 500 times still does not make it uncheck.
I have searched high and low but have not found a clearcut way to disable it via script or other non-interactive means.
I wonder if there might be a javascript that could be plugged into GreaseMonkey to accomplish the end goal.   This blog and Adobe document refer to the wmode parameter and how to use it to disable HA.
    http://niquimerret.com/?p=159
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/fplayer10_1_hardware_acceleration.html
I am thinking perhaps I can take the Low Quality JS (http://userscripts.org/scripts/review/38994) and replace "quality" with "wmode".  Am I on track?    It  seems "opaque" might be the right one.  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/127/tn_12701.html
There is a case related to my question:  https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-5748
    Any tips, clues, pointers, commiserations?

Hi, LOL at my screen moniker. That's interesting that the FF beta has an Option for that. The only problem, is that I have heard that each browser must UNcheck the H.A. I'm sure you'll find out.
Hope that works at least for FF. Let me know if you have time.
I've been checking out Apple TV and Google TV. Just saved the links and some info, haven't had time to go further. I'd prefer Apple TV over Google tho.
I have a 55" HD Sony/Blu-ray Surround Sound Speakers, etc. I hooked up the VGA cable for Internet, and WOW on the Screen/Monitor!! Now I'm thinking about the iPhone 4 with VZ too, on their pre-order list for 2/3/11!
Hard to keep up with the Technology, moving faster today for some reason.
We are under the Snow & Ice warning, getting it now. Hope I don't lose power! If so, I'll be offline for sure.
If I find anything on that H.A. for IE, I'll let you know.
    Thanks,
    eidnolb
