BSOD K8N2 AMD X2 3800

Noticed problem accessing E drive = error message
tried defrag, chkdsk /f and couldn't complete
nothing before today stored in system restore
started getting BSOD IRQ_EQUAL_TO_NOT_LESS_THAN Stop 0x000000000xA
tried to start copying files from E with bsod after a 1-2 min of copy process
ran Hitachi drive diag and drive failed in basic and advanced mode
ran ontrack drive diag and drive would stop after a few min on the read test
so...thought drive was bad...copied what I could from drive and returned for warranty replacement
installed and formatted new SATA drive...copied files to E
now getting BSOD on copying all files
cannot complete virus check on any drive... bsod on all drive access after a few minutes
updated BIOS and mobo drivers
no change... did Win Repair
now computer really runs like crap...getting fail on spoolsv.exe
booted into safe mode and did virus check ccleaner and spybot check
??? should I fix ccleaner registry problems?
didn't BSOD during safe mode
went back to normal mode, same spoolsv.exe error
kept saying I need to update to sp2, but hangs during 'finishing install'
tried running sp3 candidate...hangs
what would you do?
should I give up and try to upgrade to Vista and hope it fixes everything?

Seems like your OS files have gotten corrupted - from Command Prompt try SFC /SCANNOW with the OS CD-ROM in a drive.  You also need to calm down and run some basic diagnostics, e.g. memtest86+ like someone else said and then run WDC diags on your remaining drives and a full Windows scan of at least the boot drive with CHKDSK /R or "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" with the Windows scanner.
Which nForce3 driver pack are you using - the last from nVidia was 5.10 (5.11 is bad so do not use).  Where did you DL the SATA/RAID drivers?  If from MSI and it's the version with V5.34 NVATABUS.SYS I wouldn't use that - the 5.10 pack SATA is OK but the best SATA/IDE driver, if you must, is the V4.79 SATA-IDE which is only available as part of an aborted attempt at a unified driver pack, 6.37Beta, by nVidia... available here http://downloads.guru3d.com/nForce-6.37-Beta-Drivers-download-971.html BUT use only the drivers in the IDE folder, which you'd have to install manually.  You could also do a custom remix, like I have, by replacing the IDE folders in the 5.10 pack with the ones from the 6.37Beta pack.
BTW forget about Vista with a nForce3 mbrd - nVidia has removed all "compatibility" notices and their official stance is that it(Vista+nForce3) does not work with a dual-core CPU and they will not be doing drivers.

  • After AMD X2 3800 upgrade MSI Radio causes stop error

    Hi!
First of all sorry for by bad English
I have an MSI TV Anywhere master card for about two years now.
Until now it was running fine, using the updated drivers from MSI's site
This include the main driver, and the new WinDVR 3.0 and the updated MSI Radio
With these AMD vs Intel price wars, I've upgraded my Athlon Winchester 3000+ to a X2 3800+
    The CPU is running fine
However, MSI radio immedialy gives a BSOD since I have changed the CPU
I have even got as far as reinstalling XP SP2 from scratch, and it still BSOD's :(
    I get
    STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER
    How do I solve it?
Any other users having trouble with TV Anwhere Master with an AMD X2
CPU has run for several hours PRIME 95 and some heavy games with no crashes whatsoever
Just click on MSI radio and the mouse cursor wil freeze, followed by a BSOD and a reboot
    Every time this happend
The only time when I could lauch MSI radio was when I booted Windows XP in safe mode
    Thx in advance

    Hi Stu!
Followed you advice, I looked a little more at the processor AMD procesor driver program
I already had installed the latest version, but it crashed too :(
However you suggestion had led my to try this:
    * Removed the normal AMD processor driver
    * Installed the AMD Fix for dual core processors from the AMD site
It worked!! Now MSI radio no more crashes!
    knock on wood
I'll report back when there are errors
This is the page I got the utility from:
    http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html
    It's the first tool listed
    From the desc:
"The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction"
Hope this helps anyone who has an AMD X2 an has similar problems
Actually, with the new drivers from MSI I'm quite happy with my TV Anywhere Master

It's listed as supported on the MSI website but has nayone else got both cores running on it?
    Hitch.
    Yes it does support X2
Did you clear cmos with power cable disconnected from psu?

If you creat a signature (in profile) it will save you having to type your spec's  out each time or us looking for it. Use mine as a template.
What PSU are you using ? Can you list the power output ? (writen on side of psu)
Going from your specs you listed your graphics card is very hungery on power so I would suggest your psu isn't up to the job under load.
Post the spec and we will know for sure.

  • Planning To buy MSI K9N Platinum + AMD X2 3800+

    Hello everyone,
as the title as Iam planning to buy a MSI K9N Platinum board with an AMD X2 3800+ for a new system build. Ive been out of the game for a while, the last time I was really up to date on computer technology is when the AMD XP 2500+ Barton was the hottest thing on the market, some what of a new comer to dual core technology. I have a few questions, mainly about the board it self. I did a little searching and that answered some of my question but I have a few more.
Ive read a lot about the shutdown problems from the board when transferring large files or burning DVDs. I have a few questions about that.
From what I see so far, this is a very informative forum and I appreciate any and all information. So here goes:
    1) It says on the MSI website that the ram slot for this motherboard is at 1.8 volts. The ram Iam planning to get is OCZ Platinum EL XTC PC2-6400 1GB 2X512 DDR2 CL4-5-4-15 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit. On the OCZ website it says that the ram modules run at 2.1 volts. My Question is if I stick this ram in the mother board will it boot long enough for me to go into the bios and change the ram voltage to 2.1 volts?
    2) Now Ive read about the shutdown problems with this board. Ive seen a lot of people up the VCore to 1.35V. If I do this along with a bios flash, will this take care of the problems?
    3) Now the dealer that Iam buying my PC from didn't have this board in stock for the last week. He just got them in 2 days ago this week. Therefore Iam assuming he has the lastest version of these boards. Now are these problems taken care of on the new version of these boards? If not what can I do to get rid of them?
    4) Is there anything else I should know about this motherboard?
    Thanks for the the help.

Yes, you could set up manually the voltage to 2.1v perfectly I've got one k9nsli p, with an amdx2 3800+ whit 2gb ddr2 (512x4 twins pack corsair xms2 ddr2 800) that works at 1,9v

My shutdowns problems was resolved by unnistallin' nvidia IDE controller, nothing about vcore or flashin bios... I keep original bios version 1.0 & Core center shows vcore at 1.33v

Good question... 2morrow I'll check on the box of my k9 the part number and will post it

The first week, I was desire burn my k9  shutdowns... shutdowns.... shutdowns... after I find the cause of that ShiX$/#(! (nvidi IDesuxs controller) my life is happy!

  • HP dv6 Notebook freezes or get BSOD from AMD High-Definition Driver

My laptop (with switchable graphics) started to randomly get BSODs and I tried to fix this problem by restoring my notebook to its factory settings. Despite this, I still received quick BSODs before my computer shut down or froze, and i have reset my notebook several times.
I am nearly certain that it is my graphics driver. Every time I run the CCC and run programs under "High Performace" my computer proceeds to crash. Likewise, if I attempt to run a game my screen freezes.
When I disable the AMD driver in Device Manager my computer works fine (except games won't run and certain aesthetic things like resolution are changed). Also, when the driver is enabled and I boot my laptop, the laptop will freeze or get a quick BSOD at the boot screen ("Starting Windows"). I have to shut down and turn my computer back on repeatedly and then occasionally the computer will manage to boot up again.
I have a HP dv6-6170us with AMD Radeon 6770M, and my operating system is Windows 7 (64-bit).
I greatly need help with this situation and have tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall it again off HP's website just to have it still not work again.
    Thanks!

    Hello mr_edgeworth.

    1. Which BIOS should I flash? Understand that 1.9 BIOS has given problems. Have scanned Syar's

    2. After flashing what other steps are necessary for Win XP Pro to recognize the dual core CPU

If you happen to have a old AMD cpu driver installed, remove it before you put in the new CPU. Windows will go nuts if you don't

  • Overclocking AMD 64 X2 3800+

    Hello all
Well, I'm curious on how high up you can clock the AMD x2 3800+ (E4 Stepping) cpu on stock heatsink/fan?
So far I was able to OC'd my x2 3800+ to 2.48 Ghz on stock heatsink/fan (the stock HSF is from the x2 4400 model, the one that comes with heatpipes).
So far my CPU OC'd temps are at Idle 25C to Load 35C (with the HSF that came with the X2 3800 stock settings Idle 35C Load 41C)
System temps goes from 33C to 40C which was the same readings with the old HSF.
I got the FSB at 248
                 multiplier at 10x
CPU Volts 1.48v (went up from 1.36v)
                 DRAM/FSB 5/6 making the XMS RAM run at DDR412 2.0-3-3-7 1T  2.80v
HT multiplier ??? since I can't find it in BIOS only the frequencey and Bandwidth, that's HTT I think....
I think I can go higher but my Corsair XMS memory might cause problems, since it's not known to OC well (stupid me didn't know that until I found this forum ).
So has anyone was able to OC'd their X2 3800 past the 2.6Ghz mark?
I'm new to this OC business so any ideas would be much appreciated.
Oh I'm afraid to give my CPU anymore voltage than what I gave it.  I really don't want to fry it cause I don't have money to buy another one.  I got a case that comes with a temp display and case fans speed displays so I can keep an eye on temps and the Core Center running to check temps  I've tried speedfan but it doesn't show my CPU or System temps only HD0 temp.  Don't know if it's due to having the MSI K8N Diamond Plus board?
Oh my case does have 3 fans running, one at front, one at back and one at the Side panel.
    Alexander

The average overclock on the 3800 is about 2.5 Ghz stable.  You can get up to 2.7 which seems to be the max for the 4200 also but it is rare and requires 1.55 volts on the CPU and water cooling or better.  The voltage range for the 90nm CPU is 1.3 to 1.45 volts (Warranty Range), beyond that your taking a risk as your temperatures can run away very quickly and fry your chip.  (Explained below, you can read it or skip it as I tend to ramble on.)  As for temperature monitoring, get a program called MBM5 with a sister program "ShutDown Now!"  this will monitor your MB and CPU temps and do an automatic hard shutdown a the temperature you choose.  High temp for the 90Nm is 53C and 60 begins to damage it.
As for your HT, look for something in the Core menu right under FSB that reads 5x and change it to 4x or lower.  (You want to stay around FSB x HT Multi = 800 to 1050)
    Explanation for Temp:
Since your OCing a dual core, Ill explain a little bit further since it applies to us more.  The silicon your chip is made out of is a semiconductor, sandwiched with a conductor, an insulator, and then another core. (Dual core as explained to me.)  Anyway, as temperatures rise in the core from higher loads, the silicons conductivity changes relative to the temperature on an exponential scale.  On the flip side, as the chip gets hotter, the thermal conductivity decreases on an exponential scale and the chip will cool slower. So when you up the voltage you come closer to the point where your generating more heat than the silicon can disperse, and with an increase in voltage the electron bleeding between paths increases (causing errors) and more heat.  This is more important in Dual Cores because its a further path from the center of the chip to the outside, hence why Dual Cores seem to run cooler but in reality the temperature in the center is most likely higher.  If you overvolt and or let the temp get too high, the chip becomes similar to a nuclear reactor meltdown, where the damage is done before you even see a sign something is wrong, and poof.....off goes the computer.  Because the curve is relatively flat at the bottom, you have alot of leeway between 1.35 and 1.45 volts and in turn can have a large temperature range from 48 - 53 C.  But the curve dramatically rises past 1.45 V and you can quickly get out of control temperatures if you dont have the proper cooler.  This is also why you need to move to water cooling when getting up to 1.55 volts and a freon or colder cooler for just a few more volts on top of that (1.65 V at 3.0 Ghz 4200X2)  Ok thats the end of my ramble.

Not sure but the Seagate drive I have has made a couple of noises I don't like.
I have another which is identical so going to clone this one onto that and see if it fixes the issue
You have just changed the video card, and you had the rest of your config working before?
I mean the ram is a lot of times involved in bsod (or psu).
I don't like to see the RC SP1 are you sure it is not the source of problems?
Personnaly i prefer to put the patches and wait for the final SP1.
The last Catalyst is the 8.1 + the hotfix (v 8.451.4.0).
You can try the previous one: 7.12, to see if it corrects the issue.
I am running the same video card with an X38 mobo + core2duo + vista 64 and no bsod.
You won't get a lot more from PCI-E 1.0 to 2.0, perhaps nothing more.
The PCI-E 1.0 is not fully used by actual videocards.
    i.e the the Radeon HD3870 X2 is PCI-E 1.0.
PCI-E 2.0 is pure marketing for the moment.
The X38 is the best chipset for the moment if you want a crossfire both PCI-E at x16 and the best memmory management, and also if you want a 45 nm processor.
But a lot of people prefer P35 mobo's cheaper and doing almost the same thing (with one video card).
    If you buy a core 2 duo i hope you will take a E8xxx (6Mo L2 cache... ).
    Waiting for my E8500..

Before I start here are the specs
Amd x2 3800 with stock cooling
    Msi K8n Neo4 Platinum
2 gb OCZ Dual Channel Platinum Link
    eVGA 7800gt
    Ultra Xconnect 500watt psu
2 160 gb Hitachi Deskstars in Raid 0 on nvidia raid controller
    2 Ide Hard drives
Problem: Complete lockups in games.(no sound, no mouse, no keyboard, no screen activity) Mainly Counter-strike Source. Battlefield 2 sometimes freezes but it always happens with CS:S. I have tried installing the AMD x2 driver, Microsoft hotfix, the registry tweak to activate the MS hotfix, reverting to the 7x.xx forceware, trying multiple forceware beta drivers, setting affinity to 1 cpu, updated bios to 1.b, formating multiple times trying different forceware drivers etc. When I install Windows before I do anything I am doing a full windows update installing everything until there are no critical updates left and also installing the latest directX.
I ran prime95 on both cores for 7 hours and nothing was found. I ran memtest for 4 hours 30 minutes and nothing was found.
As of right now I should be recieving a Amd 64 3800+ (non x2) tomorrow from newegg and seeing if that works. Here are pictures of my bios settings.
Couldn't get the very last line so heres another pic that includes the Nf4 voltage.
    edit: Forgot to add this
    Memory Timings
Incase imageshack links die/slow heres an alternative http://urlx.org/dmservers.com/064b

I switched the ram to the 2 slots closest to the cpu and it then allowed me to change it to 1T. The ocz guy sent me a whole list of settings which I did but then when I saved and restarted it didn't post. So I tweaked them a bit and now it works fine. According to Everest I am now above the benchmarks compared to the other x2 3800+ on the nforce4 ultra.
1 thing I did notice was that every now and then I would lock up in the bios for some reason. As in I would be changing some settings and then I couldn't use the arrow keys to move at all. I wonder if its because I am using a wireless keyboard or maybe the usb to ps2 adapter is messing it up?
edit: heres screenshots. I know I am big on screenshots.

  • 8i EE Setup.exe crash - XP Pro and AMD X2 CPU

When trying to install 8i on my XP Pro (SP2) box with and AMD X2 3800+, setup.exe crashes as soon as it is run. I've tried the fix for P4s (renaming the symcjit.dll instances), but to no avail. This happens wherever the setup.exe is run from.
Has anyone encountered this problem and managed to fix it?

Hope you realize that Microsoft has changed a number of the kernel APIs with XP. Oracle8i was written to older APIs and you may experience crashes, possibly at random, simply because you are trying to run things in an incompatible way.
(I see this as a bit like buying a new car chassis and putting in an old engine and transmission - there is a lot of tinkering required to get the motor mounts to match.)
In my experience, people who have made 8i work on XP Pro have generally upgraded XP from an older OS and have been lucky enough to have the old APIs still lying around.
Suggest you try moving up to a newer version of Oracle and, if necessary, use the compatibility parameter to keep compatibility.

As I'd seen in many forums that a lots of people are able to archieve 2.4G~2.6GB easily but I don't know why I can only able to archieve highest at 2.3G only.
My current setting is as below:-
    Multiplier - 10
    HT - 230
    HTT - 5X
    FSB - 287.5
    Ram divider - 533
Clock speed at 2300mHz stock vcore & vdimm 1.95
But the moment I try to increase the HT to 240 or higher it tends to be unstable even I increase the vcore and vdimm.
Can someone advise me on this matter.

"Besides that I'd also tried to set HTT to 3x and loosen the ram timing to 5-5-5-15-20 2T. vcore at 1.45 vdimm 2.0 and HT set to 240 but it won't boot."
try with lesser steps. give CPU vcore only when need. what is your actual memory frequency at latest good OCed settings?
"Btw I'd not seen the function "DOT & aggressive memory timings" where am I suppose to disable it?"
aggressive memory timings option doesn't exist in your BIOS, DOT(Dynamic Overclocking) its Disabled by default, but ensure it.(located in Cell Menu).
"My PCI-E has set to 104Mhz. Coz I'd seen some forum advise to set to 104Mhz. So actually 103Mhz or 104Mhz will be more stable?"
    nop will be the same.
provide screenshots from CPU-Z with your last good known OCed settings.
I'd set to disable on dynamic overclock all the time. btw I'd upload the link CPU-Z validation but I don't know how to put attachment thats why I upload the link.

  • K9A2 Neo + AMD X2 6000+ performance problem

    Hello!
I got this problem wich i wonder if it has to do with the chipset contra graphic card.
    I used to have an AMD X2 3800+, ASUS A8N5X NFORCE4 mobo, 2gb PC3200 400mhz, and i exchange those for AMD X2 6000+, MSI K9A2 Neo, 2gb Corsair XMS2 800mhz. My graphics card is a NVIDIA GF8000GTS running under Win XP 32.
My problem comes down to that this new gear runs like my older. If not worse at times. And my friend that has an identical system can play on very high settings without any stutter while i have to play on normal. Exactlly as my older system. The difference we have is that he is using a NFORCE motherboard. Im now wondering if that has such an impact on performance? Having a NVIDIA graphics card and use this MSI with ATI chipset.
When i baught it today i asked for NFORCE but i guess he forgot after picking it up and handing it to me, and i ofcourse forgot to double check. I thaught it was NFORCE7 when i saw the "770" marking. I also installed some AMD CPU DRIVERS that came with the disc. Dont know what they are for. Never seen that before. I also skipped installing the "ATI SYSTEM DRIVERS" as i figured i dont use ATI graphics card. Dont know if i should?
I will exchange this for a NFORCE mobo, but i just wanted to check with you if this really can have such impact on performance.
I have everyhing else updated to latest drivers with XP SP3 up to date.
Hope for some answer. Thank you in advance.
    Regards
    Alex

My friend and i got the same gear apart from the nforce mobo.
I got a 500W PSU and it should do as antother friend of mine got 600W and running SLI and faster CPU, more RAM etc. When i installed this i ofcourse formatted and made a fresh install. Unless you mean that i need to install the ATI SYSTEM DRIVERS first? I dont know if its 30 AMPS on the PSU though. Need to check that.
To me it just sounds more sain to use Nvidia chipset together with Nvidia graphics card, and ATI chipset with ATI graphics. But as you say you got no performance probs with that i might be wrong. However i am comparing to a friend with the same gear and playing online at the same time. He can go way up in settings i cant. I even stutter on the normal settings, and he doesnt on the high settings.
    Gotta check the 30AMPS now.
Thanks for your ideas. Your probably right. Will check.
    Regards
    Alex

  • X2 3800+ (E6) support for the K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI

    Hi everyone:
I have decided to purchase the K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI (MS-7100-020) and I ready placed the order.  However, I wonder if it supports the AMD X2 3800+ (E6 Version) CPU?  The reason I asked the question because I found the following table from the Taiwan MSI web site which shows that X2 3800+ E6 is undertesting.
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=641&kind=1
    Thank you for any replies.

Mine worked, ran for 2 weeks already at stock, tried & ran to 2.2GHz on stock HSF with no problem.
    Using X2 3800+ E6, MSI K8N PLI Platinum mobo, 3.7 bios & Inno3D 7800GTX single latest nvidia 78 drivers, 2x512MB DDR400 CL2.5 Kingston Ram, Hitachi T7K250 Sata 250GB HDD, NEC ND-3530A Benq 1640, , Silverstone Zeus 650W PSU
At first I have this concern too, but tried it anyway.
