BSoD on a new machine
Hi, people.
I've just bought and assembled a new computer and I'm having constant BSoDs (usually with disturbing sound effect like looping the last bit of sound, which sounds like "bzzzzz" or "brrrrrr", or even "beeeeep"), game crashes (always
c0000005 code) and "video driver has stopped responding and recovered" messages at random moments.

BSoD driver file: dxgmms1.sys (attempting to corrupt the system, revealed using the Windows Driver Verifier)
So, I've downloaded and installed the latest motherboard, GPU, SSD and soundcard drivers from their official sites, deinstalling older versions using Driver Cleaner and CCleaner. I've tested my RAM with memtest and found no problems. I've done a stress-test
using the AIDA64 - no errors. Monitoring the temperature during the stress-test and usual activities revealed no overheat. AHCI mode is set. SLI is configured through the NVidia panel. No overclocked CPU. No problems when rendering with GPU (i.e. no artifacts/hangs).
BIOS menu displays no voltage problems. No cable connection problems seen at the moment.
Also, tried with two different Windows - Professional and Ultimate, same errors. HALP PLEASE.

P.S. Forgot to say, the computer is connected through a voltage regulator APC Line-R 1200. Instead of a monitor I use my TV (Samsung) connected via HDMI to the top GPU.
UPD 1: Okay, tried both of available WHQL driver versions for my GPU (320.49 and 327.23, now using 320.49) Still having random BSoDs with no driver specified (usually 0x0000001E) with weird noises when BSoD (using the motherboard output or the soundcard
changes nothing).
Also, the Windows Driver Verifier now does not give a BSoD.
UPD: Noticed strange temperature changes on the top GPU: fading from 45° to 39° when writing this post. No game or other graphics rendering program is running, only Firefox (both of the NVidia 3d VISION plugins disabled) and Speccy.
UPD 2: Got another SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION BSoD while scrolling a page with Mozilla.
UPD 3: Experiencing strange application unstability - crashes & hangs (seen crashing AC3, Firefox, Flash Player, Samsung Magician, dwm.exe, all with c0000005 error).

These were Related to
nvlddmkm.sys nVidia Display Driver. There is a known problem with the current version (which is yours). I would revert back to a much older one (say a generation).
Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.

Can't open iphoto after migration to new machine
I just migrated from an older iMac to a new one, and now when I try to open iPhoto I get the message "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto". I tried updating iPhoto on the new machine, but it seems to be up to date. The old library is VERY large (>35 GB), and I don't want to have to go back and deal with touching up all the photos again. Any ideas?

IS THE SITUATION HOPELESS
I used Target mode to transfer files to a new i7 iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 from an older Dual core Intel machine (EMC 2105) also on 10.6.8. but originally Tiger 10.4. The operation was successful and I ejected the disk icon from the new machine and powered down the old machine. When this was restarted the next day there was a grey screen with flashing Mac symbol alternating with a 'no entry' sign and occasionally a question mark.Keyboard and mouse were unusable so k inserted the original instal disc (No.1 for 10.4. with installer 1.0.4) which came with the machine in 2006 in an attempt to boot from this. The ensuing window said this was not possible and now it cannot be ejected.I have tried everything ! It offers Disk Utility and other options like Terminal but that doesn't work either.I 'repaired disk' and that was pronounced o.k. None of the various keystrokes at start up will work, and the computer will only offer the installer disc continually.The only option would seem to be is to erase the hard drive completely from the disc in the machine.I don't want to do this as there is still material which I need to recover. I think the drive has in some way been corrupted by using it in target mode, and I don't know if there are any other options to try.

No; but then, I've not had occasion to use TDM. I've been using firerwire drives for over 10 years, both FW400 and FW800, with no issues except a bit of instability using a B&W G3 machine.
TDM should be safe. Using cautious, manual copying of files from the Target machine to the Host machine should not result in unexpected loss of files or damage to the Target drive's directories. It should behave exactly the same as if it were an external (to the Host) firewire drive.
• I don't suppose there is anything I can do to 'put back' lost items from a separate Time Machine drive which has an up to date backup on it.
There is probably a way to do that - seems to me that's one of the reasons for a Time Machine volume.
On the other hand, if the Time Machine volume is rigidly linked to the now-absent OS on the original drive, there may be no way to effectively access the files in the TM archive.
I know that using a cloned drive would work well in this instance.
I have no experience with Time Machine, so perhaps someone who has will chime in with suggestions.
With the machine in TDM with the other machine, have you tried running Disk Utility to see if you can effect repairs to the drive? -
I have just bought a new mac book pro and want to use this machine as the main computer to which I will sync my iPhone and iPad.
How do I transfer the information within iTunes on my old mac book so when I connect the devices the new machine will not erase all my data?

If you export bookmarks to an HTML file then you create a copy of your bookmarks and you edit that copy and you do not affect the original bookmarks.

As indicated in the header question, I've been unable to get PS CS3 to run (other than in "trial period" mode) on my new laptop. I purchased CS3 a few years ago and had it up and running on my former (now deceased) machine; I still had the activation key. I installed the program on my new machine (running Windows 7.1), seemingly uneventfully. But when I now enter the activation key, I get an error message informing me that the number is not valid.
Does the activation key become invalid after a certain time period, or is there something I can fix? I'm interested in upgrading, but would like to have the familiar version available until I get around to doing so (just retired; lots of time-consuming changes afoot).

How do I transfer playlists from my other Apple computer(s) to my new Macbook Pro? I think I have successfully moved the music (archive) but the new machine wants to start from scratch on the playlists.

Essentially you need to copy over the itunes folder

Over to your macbookpro I suggest using an ethernet cable as it is way quicker. Put it in the same spot on the new Macbook Pro

Until I removed my old 32 Bit Dell machine today, all the rooms in the house got excellent delivery of audio or video, via Apple TVs, which then run into DACs and amps, and the rest of the gear. The 32 Bit Box was failing on some boots, so I got a new machine. I installed 64 Bit iTunes on it, but cannot get it to recognize the NAS Box. It's like the setting took, as I can see it, however, it "appears" that iTunes is looking elsewhere for the media. I would really prefer not to reload all 850 CDs, and redownload the 56 movies from iTunes.
Is there something that changed in 64 Bit iTunes ? years ago, iTunes would sometimes boot and really want to find the music under Documents and Settings..... but that seemed to sort itself out.

I have a new machine with a previous installation of Itunes, linked to another Apple ID. Even I authorized the machine to my Apple ID, I can not connect to the Apple Store. I tried removing Itunes and reinstalling it, but anything changed. I still can not connecto to the Store.
My previous machine has Itunes Installed, and I deauthorized the machine so I unlinked to my Apple ID, if this is correct.
Anyway, Dropbox is also not connecting....so I do not know how to make it woek. please help!I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account. I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there. On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back. Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email. The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option? -
How do I transfer old masters from a vault to a new machine
I have Aperture Masters on an old iMac, saved into a vault on an external hard disk . I bought a new iMac and want to bring the originals from my old machine onto the new machine.
Presumably, I can download them from the vault to the new machine, but I'm not sure how.
So far, I've managed to import versions onto the new machine but not masters. I'm terrified of doing the wrong thing and losing thousands of vital photos, so any help greatly appreciated.emeff06 wrote:

Welcome to the forum.
Tell us what it is you're doing to get the versions.
Was the old library managed or referenced? If you used a referenced library, your masters were not backed up to the vault.
If you used a managed library, restoring from a vault is straight forward. Just launch Aperture on the new iMac then choose
File>>Vault>>Restore Library then tell Aperture where the vault is. You might want to create a new blank library before you start.

Can not register a new machine with Updatemanager
Hi,
I just install a new machine with Solaris 10 using a Flash image and Live Upgrade. The original machine from we create the Flash image was registered succesfull using Update Manager.
Now, when I try to register the new machine, the applications ask me the user and password, but do not makes anything. The dialog freeze. The only way to stop the Update Manager is killing them (at the end is the full java error stack).
I try with sconadm,
sconadm register -a -r /var/tmp/registration.profile
Unsuccessfull too, with the same stack error (Caused by: javax.management.InstanceNotFoundException: ).
I'm bored with the Solaris patch system: all the weekend was saying error 500 for all my other registered machines, and now I can not register a new machine....
This system fails all the time.. Is runing under W2K3 server???
Any Idea?

The problem was a Memory problem: The swap file was misconfigured. Once the system reboots with the correct swap configuration I was able to register the machine.
Anyway, the problem to connect with SunSolve is continous, but it is other point of discussion.

I bought my wife a new MacBook Pro, in setting it up for her, I took her Time Machine external drive to migrate onto the new machine but her old MBP not only was on 10.6, it was my old machine which I was still Administrator for.
i plugged in the external drive to start the migration process after entering her name and username from the old machine which gave me the options on transferring the old data over.
I also unchecked the Administrative end that had my info hoping that ONLY her data, files, etc., would be the ones sent over to her new machine which I wanted her to be the ONLY Administrator for. All went like clockwork until the restart.
Normally the screen should show the username and only need the password but both entries were blank, as in ‘Other’ sign in option available only. I entered her name and password, nothing….used her username and password, nothing. Used my old Administrator name and password, NOTHING!
I tried defaulting to factory settings from the Restore feature but it directs me to notify Apple. I tried in Terminal to change the password, nothing. I tried to boot from MY external drive and it doesn’t recognize it. I tried to even use my external drive which actually has the Mavericks upgrade, nothing!
Basically I can only get the startup screen which isn’t accepting the username/password or the Restore feature which doesn’t offer any options helpful!
Please, how do I start from scratch and start over here? Or simply change the Administrator name and password so I can proceed with everything thats already on there? I wish I could even boot from another drive but no luck on anything!First, on the old machine, make your wife's account an admin one. Log into it and delete yours. Then, update the TM backup. Finally, use Internet recovery mode, ⌘⌥R, erase the HD, and restore the OS. One first boot, follow the steps outlined in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide.

does anyone know how to fix the message on my iMac:
"Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled."
This is a brand new machine and did not have anything attached to the USB ports"
Thanks for any helpIf you are getting that message on a brand new Mac with nothing connected to the USB ports, take it back. It is broken.

5.6 raw converter turns pure white into purple

Printer not showing up on add printer
We have a network of both PCs and Macs and a central Sharp Copier. We have the latest driver for Yosemite but the copier is not showing up in the add printer list. When we try setting the Macs up through the IP menu it says unable to verify printer
