BSOD on shutdown - Platinum

Hi,
Just built a computer which 80% of the time BSOD's when i shutdown. Instead of shutting down normally it flashes blue then restarts. I sent the error report to microsoft after a serious error msg when i restarted from a bsod and it came up with a fault that was a video hardware problem. It told me to disable or limit hardware accelertion on my graphics card. Looking through the posts I can see that this is not a unique problem to myself with Nvidia cards and platinum. This card isnt infact a nvidia branded graphics card but a cheaper imitation. Does anyone have the remedy for this problem because it is driving me insane!! thanks.
ALso I am running Windows XP Home (although i have tried pro aswell but get the same problem)
thanks
Leighton.

keen gamer on a GF4MX?
The GF4MX is kind of a low cost card with performances that are... dated (GeForce2 class of card, it's 4+ years old).
Which drivers are you using?
Which directX?

We have SCCM 2012 R2 and Dell.  Using the latest combo drivers on Dell, imaging Win7 x86/x64.
I've been seeing BSOD on shutdown on almost all desktops/laptops. They don't BSOD every time, maybe 20-30% of the time on 5-10% of all desktops/laptops.

    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck.  Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem.  Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003.  This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG.  This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG.  This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.

I suspect the BSOD is caused by Intel(R) Management Engine Interface (c:\windows\system32\drivers\teedriverx64.sys).
Uninstall it and make sure TeeDriverx64.sys is deleted.
    Restart machine several times.
After restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate native system driver.

  • G500 atikmpag.sys BSOD on shutdown

    Hi community,
I have been researching my problem for a while but I haven't found anything like it. Only similar issues. If there is a solution specifically for my problem, then I apologise in advance. I recently updated my AMD driver to the recommended version because an older game couldnt run properly and the FPS was really low. After updating, the game issue was fixed BUT:
    i) When I want to shut my laptop down I usually see a Blue Screen (after the Shutting Down message) which says something like: LOCAL_SYSTEM_EXCEPTION (atikmpag.sys failure) and then reboots
ii) or when I'm lucky enough to successfully shut it down, the same screen appears when I turn it on again.
Note that it's not atikmdag.sys and the message doesn't say SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPION_NOT_HANDLED
I tried this as well, didn't work:
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
    Steps:
    1. Ensure you have the latest and greatest GPU drivers installed... (control panel>system and security>device manager>display adapters>properties (under respective card)>driver date. If you have the latest continue with step 2.
    2. C:\AMD\Support\12-4_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc\Packages\Drivers\Display\W**A_INF\B******
    3. Copy the file atikmdag.sy_ "OR" atikmpag.sy_
    4. Create a folder called "TEST" and place it either on your desktop or C: drive, paste copied file into this folder.
    5. Open the "COMMAND PROMT" "CMD"
    5. enter the following command: EXPAND.exe atikm(p/d)ag.sy_ atikm(p/d)ag.sys (make sure there is a space between the file types when you are typing or it will not expand)Example: EXPAND.exe atikmpag.sy_(SPACE) atikmpag.sys
    6. Once done open C:\Windows\system32\drivers and rename the existing atikmdag.sys or atikmpag.sys toatikmdag.sys.bak or atikmpag.sys.bak
    7. Copy the newly created atikmpag.sys or atikmdag.sys file from the "TEST" folder you made earlier into the file path in step 6.
    8. Reboot and your done (all BSOD related to those two files should no longer happen)
Reasons for this issue can be due to incorrect expanding and extracting .sys files for multiple reasons.
Steps:1. Ensure you have the latest and greatest GPU drivers installed... (control panel>system and security>device manager>display adapters>properties (under respective card)>driver date. If you have the latest continue with step 2.2. C:\AMD\Support\12-4_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc\Packages\Drivers\Display\W**A_INF\B******3. Copy the file atikmdag.sy_ "OR" atikmpag.sy_4. Reboot and your done (all BSOD related to those two files should no longer happen)Reasons for this issue can be due to incorrect expanding and extracting .sys files for multiple reasons.
I have no other issues whatsoever while I am using the laptop or playing. The BSOD appears only on shutdown.

The GF4MX is kind of a low cost card with performances that are... dated (GeForce2 class of card, it's 4+ years old).

  • Windows 8.1 x64 BSOD on shutdown - ntoskrnl.exe

This has been happening for several months to me, where in Windows 8.1 x64 when I go to shut down to install any Windows updates, I get a BSOD that says REFERENCE_BY_POINTER.  I've uploaded the minidump files here:
    https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=A0FE33D78854B45A!3350&authkey=!AEZUfKou1Y7rQWQ&ithint=folder%2c.dmp
Can someone help me sort out which driver might be causing the problem?  Thanks!
actiprosoftware.com - Professional WPF, WinRT, Silverlight, and WinForms UI controls and components

    Hi,
The Ntkrnlmp.exe Bluescreen error may be caused by following factors.
    Fail to load drivers.
Require a microcode update that is not applied by the computer's basic input/output system (BIOS).
    Are damaged or defective.
Are operating outside their specified ranges for temperature, power, or other conditions.
First, I suggest we disable fast boot for Windows 8.1 to check the issue (below steps are ok for Windows 8.1):
Please refer to this article: Disable Windows 8 fast startup (hibernate file)
    http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3152/~/disable-windows-8-fast-startup-(hibernate-file)
If the issue persists, to determine the possible cause, I suggest we test the issue in Clean boot mode and Device clean boot mode:
How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
If the issue doesn’t appear, you can determine which one can be the cause by using dichotomy in MSconfig. Checking on half of Non-Microsoft service and restart, determining which half of the services cause the issue and repeating to check half of the problematic
    half services.
    Device Clean Boot
    =================
    1. Type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and press Enter.
    2. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers".
    3. Right click on your sound card and then click "Properties.
    4. In the dropdown menu of Device Usage, please choose "Do not use this device (disable)" and click OK.
    5. Please use the same method to disable other dubious hardware such as: internal modem, network card and CD-R drive. Please note some devices such as video adapter are not available to be disabled.
Let me know the results after performing my previous suggestions.
If the issue still persist, please post back the latest dump file and system information here for further research.

  • T500 BSOD at shutdown

    I get this stop error:
    0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x87B1EA58, 0x901DDB88, 0x901DD884)
    ndis.sys - address 87B1EA58 base at 87AED000
Only seem to get it at shutdown or restarts.  I've googled this and the only passing references I get are in regards to either Vista Ultimate (we're running Vista Business SP1) or XP.
All I can figure for sure is that it's a driver issue.  I'm thinking chipset or video, but I can't tell for sure because I can't seem to find any information on it!
Has anyone found a fix for this?

    corvusrex welcome to the forums,
Ive searched a bit regarding your error in microsoft support and it seems your are facing a problem with your on board network interface card.next time try disabling it and see what happens.
    Cheers and regards,

  • Rubbish 3dmark06 score and BSOD K8N Neo2 Platinum

I wasn't sure where to post this so please move if necessary: Two issues here.
What sort of score should I be getting with the rig I have?  The score seems way off the pace.  Wonder if there are some settings that need adjusting to get to a reasonable level.  As you can see from signature I have moderate overclock going, which has boosted my score marginally.  The same card on a K7N2 Delta 2-LSR posted 1478 with no overclock.
I'm using latest official drivers (81.98) and graphics card is not overclocked.
Antialiasing, Anisotropic, Vertical Sync all application controlled; Image settings set to High Performance.
I guess I should have checked bios settings before posting but I think fast writes is enabled.
    My 3dmark2001se was 18557 at stock and 19538 O'ced.
Do you think there is something wrong with card?
The second issue which I'm not sure is related is a BSOD; BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER; STOP: 0x000000FE which occurred when not actually doing anything.
The reason I mention it is, on my old rig just immediately after installing 6600GT (prior to loading new drivers) I got same STOP message; it mentioned if you have recently added any hardware etc.  I thought this normal and attributed to new graphics card.  Rebooted in safe mode, installed drivers and everything fine.
If not graphics then I'm leaning towards usb receiver for ms keyboard/mouse.
    Any pointers?
    Thanks Dave

CPU score looks good  what drives you running 8198 ? and have you set them for 06 benching ? under application and active profile setting (performance and quality setting)
    http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=1913   My score
    SM2: 726
    HDR/SM3.0: 649
    CPU score: 771
    At stock 2.0Ghz CPU
    GFX 550/1120
on 7772 with no set for 06
Your score does look a bit low. My m8 with and XP 3000+, 1536 DDR, 6800 softmodded 16/6 O/C Core 386, Ram 786 (from 12/5 300/700) gets 1654 on 06 with the latest drivers set (81xx some think) to 06 benching after several days of finding the best tweaked setting for his card. On higher GFX O/C 394/796 he gets 1482
Running stocked (with out AGP drivers for his MOBO chipset, I told him to install them a year ago but did he, NO because he said I can install XP a fresh no problem. lol with out doing correrct drivers it turned out) he got 312 lol. And his games where pausing. I changed the PSU, ram, reseated CPU with new paste and heat sink and added 4 case fans. After all of that I was at a loss as to the problem and he was moaning that it was the MOBO. I knew 99 % is wasn't I've used a few 100 in the past and they were rock.
Well I loaded AGP drivers and hey his score when from 312 to 1340. I nearly switched on him  . For nearly a year he was moaning about the build and parts I used pointing the finger @ me. I told him I would install XP and set it up right. But he was to fast and wanted to get his rig home (before I fully finished my routine of a build and set up). And he stated "I can install XP and add drivers its easy"  ???
ARRRRRRRRRRRR makes me mad after all the hours I tested it with different programs and added and removed hardware. And it was down to him not loading drivers off the MOBO disk or downloading new ones direct from the website. The thing is he installed XP 3 times over that year. Yet had he had waited a few hours more for me to set it up. He would not have needed to moan and I would not have waste hours, trying to find the problem. I must have asked him 10 + times did you load all the drivers correctly. And in the end I had 2
I just happy that he takes what I say to heart now. As he nearly blew his system due to being to fast. Jumping in at the deep end before being able to even keep a float. As with all tweaking its a matter of knowing what to do and taking it in small steps to find limits of your hardware !
    Sorry end of rant

  • T61p will not power up after BSOD/shutdown (sometimes...)

In the last couple of days, my T61p has exhibited bizarre "Power" behavior. Yesterday and today, after a BSOD, it would shutdown and get stuck in a loop trying to reboot so I had to to a hard shutdown using the power button. After that, the Power button went dead, and no amount of pressing it achieved anything (A/C only, no battery connected). I tried the unplug power cord, press Power 15 times and hold for 30 sec trick, but to no avail. I had to remove the CMOS battery, unplug the keyboard and plug in the power cord to get it to start. It went to config, I set date/time, saved, and it booted to Windows. After using it for a few hours, I tried a shutdown but while it did shutdown, a few seconds later, it rebooted on it's own. After shutting it down a few times, it finally stayed shutdown. And lo and behold, the Power button started working again. Until today when, after another BSOD, I had to go through the same steps outlined above.
I called Lenovo support, and after telling me my machine was no longer under warranty (no kidding... ), they told me I need a new motherboard. I'm not convinced... Note that I never get any "beeps" signaling hardware issues.
Note that I never get any "beeps" signaling hardware issues, nor do I have any "Hardware Events" in event viewer.
I do however, get BSOD's almost every day. And 99% of the time, they refer to netwlv64.sys, which is a well known issue with the Intel 6945AGN wifi card not being supported in Win 8. Heck, it's been even worse since I updated to win 8.1. I wonder if, at this point, my Windows install has been corrupted by all these BSOD's/shutdowns. I do have a new wifi card on order (already have Middleton BIOS) and I plan to install it and then re-install Win 8 to see if these issues persist, before I go hunting for a motherboard.
    Any thoughts/comments/advice would be appreciated.

Justbob, you can try removing the wifi card, it's not needed to run the laptop and would be an easy way to see if it was causing the problem. As far as windows versions go I prefer to wait at least a year after the release of a new version. Microsoft tends to replace their windows version just after getting the product stable. Windows Seven is very stable on your model as is Vista, which is actually turned out to be a very good OS after the bugs were worked out. Regarding version 8.x, several members have been happy using it on this series and some have not. I haven't seen any clear advantage to upgrading especially considering the cost.

  • X505-Q870 problems

This is getting to be a bit frustrating. The reviews that I have read about this laptop have been phenomenal but so far I am less than impressed.
I had just bought a x505-Q870 two weeks ago. The purpose of the laptop is a work development machine. It started acting funny a couple days after the week long return policy ended, of course.
It started by the screen would pop up with random pixels that would turn random colors. Dragging around a window over the pixels would allow them to be refreshed. I thought that being that I was running Windows 7 x64 on a set of nvidia drivers from last November would cause this so I didn't worry so much.
Then I loaded VMWare and found that since then Windows would BSOD about 2-3 times a day. I chalked this up to the video drivers as well. I restored the machine using the Toshiba Recovery and upgraded to Windows 7 x64 Professional. This seemed to fix the problem for now.
The part that is worrying me that is starting today is that the machine either BSODs and shutdown when I close the lid to put it to sleep or BSODs when I try to wake it up. The other symptom that I had just recovered from is that to work around the sleep issue, I had decided to change the close lid setting to shutdown the pc instead of putting it to sleep. When I opened the lid, the machine would not power on. I had then noticed that even though the power was plugged in the battery light was not on. I had unplugged the power and removed the battery, waited 10-15 seconds, and reinstalled the battery. THis seemed to have fixed it for now.
I have updated the video drivers today and updated the bios from v2.00 to v2.20 just now.
Has anyone else had these kind of issues?? I can't return it to the store cause of the return policy expired and I can't be without a machine for 4-6 weeks because it is a work machine so I am hoping that there is something someone has tried that fixed it.

I had the same problems. I reinstalled windows with the disc and then just did a custom install to ultimate so i could get rid of all the stuff toshiba gives you. I then install the apps i needed from the disc you make with recovery. then moved all the programs i wanted to keep from windows.old and updated all the files. I get no more BSOD or pixil errors like you got also. I did notice the new drivers 260.89 did give me the pixils but i went back to 258 and i have no problems at all. This is what i did to fix the problem, main thing is the stuff toshiba puts in the dvd recovery is what i believe causes most of the problems besides the bad driver from nvidia.

  • Installing TV@nywhere Master card on XP

    Hi,
Since I've installed this card I've got some problems:
    - during the installation process I got the error message: "Drivers are not signed".
    - the sound is disappearing after some seconds in InterVidea WindDVR
    - If I shut down the computer I get a blue screen (or the system restarts on a shut down) -> problem with the cx88aud.sys file (driver of MSI 8606 Audio Capture, Provider: Conextant systems, File Version: 4.0.0.0).
How can I solve the XP conflict? Who can help me please??
    Thanks.

Who really cares, make sure you have the latest from the website, not the cd.

Look at the top of this (VGA) forum, see Announcements & Important Threads, I think there may be something there.
    - If I shut down the computer I get a blue screen
    I know this problem intimately.
It is a result of an IRQ sharing problem, if you look at your Device Manager or System Information utility's IRQ listing, you may notice some sharing with the device, the device does not like sharing IRQ's in certain systems and the blue screen is the result at shutdown. It was annoying but certainly not a major problem for me, but I never did anything but watch TV and record a few shows.
Here's the solution for the BSOD at shutdown.
I am posting a pic and the slot configuration may be different, but as a general rule, there are ultimately only two slots the card should work in. I use the upper one marked with neon green with no problems. The one marked with ????? was the one that gave me BSOD's. Avoid the top and bottom slots at all costs.
    Good luck,
    Glenn

  • MSI K8N Diamond stable at 2800 for weeks, not now with new folding units

    Hi chaps.
I have been running my Opteron 170 for 7 weeks now folding 24/7 without so much as a twitch.
However, since the new "5 way melt" work units have been issued it is almost impossible for either core to finish a unit...either that or the machine reboots randomly.
It re-gains stability ONLY if I run the CPU at 10x268MHz=2680 MHz
Other types of work units finish stably and very quickly still so no change there.
So I have to assume that the machine was never REALLY stable, despite lots of testing with OCCT and Memtest etc to the contrary.
Now does anyone know of any reason why the HT limit might be 268MHz?
I have tried 3 sets of different RAM, to the point where I am using a "fresh" set of OCZ PC4800 units at 2.85v ...and still getting the same problems.
I am beginning to suspect the motherboard, so if anyone has any advice, I would be glad to hear it.
Would the VRM circuitry be degrading already? All caps look like new and the Mobo/case temp is always lower than 25°C. Even the VRM heatsinks are only warm to the touch.
I gained no stability by raising the CPU voltage to 1.54v, it was still unstable when folding the same type of units.
so I have put it back to 1.4v+3.3%
    BIOS 1.8/3.8 as in sig.
As I said, all other types of units complete very swiftly and without error,as does OCCT etc.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Otherwise it is goodbye MSI and another board hits Ebay!
    Regards and thanks
    K6dude

    Hi,
Well I have tried the 5.0a BIOS and no luck at all. It is even more unstable and will not work as well as the one that I have despite giving higher RAM volts.
I just downloaded a new version of A64 tweaker and happily found that this version (0.6 beta) has a different range of tweakable components. They now include Skew controls and drive strength. This is important, as most TCCD and TCC5 based ram runs faster with a "weak" drive strength rather than the default "strong" setting that the MSI BIOS defaults to.
This could help get better stability at higher clocks for some of us. Also, setting the Skew to 248 (max setting) can help a little....just like on the DFi boards...though their max settings exceed 255!
I ran my CPU and RAM in my friend's DFi Expert last weekend for a total of 2 days running all sorts of tests and benches. I got her stable at 3150MHz for at least 8 hours folding 2 independent work units (5 way melt units). voltage was 1.42v with the RAM at 315MHz (DDR630) 1:1 at 2.85v. CPU temp Maxed out at 41°C on air whilst folding
Sandra exceeded 28,500 on the CPU test and 7890 on the bandwidth and the thing really flew along. Memtest was stable over 1200% and Prime95 ran perfectly over several hours too...no crashes, CMOS resets/BSODs, lockups/shutdowns...nothing at all wrong. Even OCCT ran a successful test or two.
This was with my own CPU cooler and in the same case as mine.
Now I REALLY know what my CPU and RAM is capable of. I just need a capable BIOS to help me out with my MSI. I think realistically though, that I will have to admit defeat and be happy with 2810MHz on this board with a 183 divider for RAM.
Thanks for all your help guys...so very much appreciated. (aicjofs, you are a saint)
Meanwhile if anyone needs help here, I hope I can be of use to at least a few of you.
    K6dude
PS Sorry to say that the Benches results are not saved as his rig was under construction and were lost as he reformatted with win64 before I could copy them to USB drive. I will duplicate the results as and when I can get a DFi board late summer.

    BIOS: 1.8 (latest)
Vista Ultimate 32 bit SP1 + latest patches
    Intel Matrix Storage Manager v8.6
    Hi all,
I have run with the above hardware specification since Jan 2007 without experiencing any hardware problems at all. Two weeks ago I upgraded the CPU from an E6700 dual-core to a Q9550 quad. I was a little concerned about doing this, because the P965 supports a max FSB of 1066 and the Q9550 is rated at 1333. In any case, I Googled around and found that some flavours of the Q9550 had been tested on my mobo (http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-MSI/P965_Platinum_(MS-238).html) and also MSI list the Q9550 stepping C1 as being compatible so I took the leap.
Early indications were good - Vista detected the new chip and I rebooted when prompted. However, in the space of two weeks I have experienced  around one or two BSODs per day STOP 101 or 124 codes. Hmm!
I have switched back to my trusty E6700 chip and the system is then as solid as a rock. I see 3 possibilities here:
1.The Mobo website (MSI P965) lists the Q9550 stepping type C1 as being compatible. There is no mention of E0 or C0 which seem to be the other two variants. I have no idea which stepping type mine is as the product numbers for the Q9550 chips are all the same (EU80569PJ073N or BX80569Q9550) regardless of whether it is a C0, C1 or E0 stepping. Is there any way to tell which on I have - I tried with CPU-Z but didn't spot the stepping type? In any case, could this be the problem or am I off-base?
    2. It's possible I have a faulty chip. How likely is this do you think? I could ask for a swap with Novatech but could be back in the same boat, and they will reject the return unless it is 'proven faulty'.
    3. I need to mod the clocking on my rig to support the Q9550. If so, can anyone advise on what I should do?
I doubt the problem is caused by an OS factor as I ran some tested in an XP pre-boot environmet and still got the lock-ups.
What should I do? i don't really want to ebay the chip at say a £50 loss if i can help it.
    Many thanks in advance.

I have a videocard with a HUGE, I mean HUGE custom CPU heatsink attached to it.  This leaves me only ONE slot available for my Audigy 2.  And that slot is the last slot 5, orange color.
Its the ONLY ONE AVAILABLE.  I read on these forums about some incompatibility of Audigy 2 with MSI Neo2 Platinum.  Thats what I have.  I tried several later and older BIOSes including the official one and the latest beta one.
Still, when I play UT2004 or some other games that demand EAX/Hardware 3D sound - I get a dark blue BSOD without a message (its like a non-WinXP BSOD, its a hardware BSOD as I call it, dark blue color).  It comes with a sqeeking sound.  I have to restart my PC afterwards.
It happens after 3-4 minutes of playing.
When I REMOVE the soundcard - everything is fine, NO BSOD.
I tried different Audigy 2 drivers, but they all give the same result.  This did not happen on my old ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe 2.0, and the soundcard was in PCI Slot 5 as well.  I tried to format, and etc., - same thing if the soundcard is in the PCI slot!
I have PCI lock ENABLED (AGP set to 67Mhz, and PCI LOCK DETECTION set to ENABLED).
How do I fix this problem?

When you said that you have PCI lock enabled and PCI lock detection enabled, were you talking about the same thing?  If not, where in the BIOS is the PCI lock? I could only find PCI Lock Detection.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum random lock-ups and BSOD

I built a new PC about 3 months ago and from day 1 it has always locked up / frozen at random intervals. Sometimes it also BSOD's with a Machine Check Exception. Seems to lock up / freeze more often when have multifple windows open eg. Multiple IE running but really is random. I have replaced the Mobo and Ram but keep having the same issues. Have tried a clean install but no luck either. Did a clean install on an old IDE HDD and seemed fine but it did not have all of the software that I run on the SATA drive. Thinking the SATA drive may be the issue? Please Help!!!
    System is as follows:
    MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum [Bios 1.D]
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ DC [AMD Drivers]
    2 x Kingston 1024Mb ram [Dual Channel]
Nvidia 6800 Ultra [Latest Drivers 91.31]
    Thermaltake Purepower 460W PSU +3.3V 30A, +5V 30A +12V 15A
Western Digital 200G SATA II HDD [SATA Port 5 i think]
1 x LG DVD +-R/RW [IDE Master] IDE port closest to edge of Mobo
    1 x LG CDR/RW [IDE Slave]
    MS XP Home SP2

    Seemed fine?
There isn't really be any difference between an IDE drive and a sata.
Except that the sata drive needs some drivers as your installing the os.
Check your ram timings in bios but likely it's your psu.
Which components are on which rail?
The ones that use the +12v are your cpu, cdrom, dvdrom and graphics card.
Try disconnecting both roms and see if it improves things?

  • K9N Platinum: CPU upgrade = Random shutdowns..

I just installed a new AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ EE in my MSI K9N Platinum motherboard (MS-7250 v1.0, the 070 model according to the box). I had updated the BIOS to version 1.7 before installing the CPU. Anyhow, I got the CPU installed and it seemed to be running fine. Until I started playing my games. Upon playing fifteen (!!!) minutes of Day of Defeat, the system completely turned off. COMPLETELY. No error messages. I check core temp's log to make sure the CPU wasnt overheating; it wasnt. The max temp was 38C on one of the cores. Just to make sure the CPU wasnt the problem, I ran two instances of prime95 for 5 hours and there were no calculation errors whatsoever. I also ran 3-4 loops of SuperPi, using the 32M test. No errors.
I have come to the conclusion that it must be the motherboard, and possibly it does not like the CPU. Or else it is having the same random shutdown problems as many other K9N Platinum/Ultra boards are experiencing. From what i have read, this issue only relates to boards that are 040, 050, or 060 models. I have a 070 model, and I AM GETTING THIS PROBLEM!!
    Help!!!
    Full specs:
    MSI K9N Platinum MS7250 V1.0, BIOS 1.7, model 070
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ EE (old CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+; had no issues with the 3500+) vcore: 1.225
    1 GB OCZ Platinum DDR2-800, 5-5-5-15, 2.1v
eVGA GeForce 7800GT videocard with Zalman VF900, 490/1220
    Hitachi Deskstar 7K80 SATA HDD
    LITE-ON DVD-ROM drive
    Floppy drive
    3x 80mm fans, 1 cold cathode
    Antec Truepower 430 watt PSU, dual +12v @ 17A a piece.
    Any ideas?

well, i know that ACPI has to do with power saving features.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACPI
and HPET also has something to do with CPUs
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HPET
    and MCP55 is the nortbridge.
so i suppose i can conclude that it protects from overvoltage or promotes more power-saving?  i dunno i really dont care as long as my PC works now,

  • BSOD's on my x64 K8N Neo4 Platinum based PC, Any ideas what's wrong? Help!

Over the past few month I've been getting BSOD's. There is no real pattern to their occurence and it's not something which is constantly happening (It happened around 5 times in the past 2 months), but I've really grown to hate them. You see, after getting one what has happened in the past is that when I go to restart my pc after getting a BSOD, I find I need to re-install my whole OS! What happens is that after booting (which oddly enough doesn't work well after a BSOD, It freezes on the boot screen and I need to restart several times), a black screen appears telling me that certain files in the C:Windows\ direcotory are corrupt or missing.
So the real problem is that the BSOD's cause me to re-install my whole OS. One will happen, then it will be ok, I turn the system on, log into windows, then it might happen again, after which I'll need to re-install. The files that go missing are always different too, and when I run scan-disk (after plugging in my main drive into another computer) it finds corrupt files and deletes them.
At first I thought it was Azureus (p2p client) which was causing the problems because it seemed to happen when I was runing that. I stopped using it, and the BSOD's still occured...sometimes randomly when browsing...etc. I figured that since files got deleted and corrpupted, it must be a problem withthe Hard Drive....So I bought a new one, and I've still had the BSOD error (although files haven't been deleted yet).
So yeah, I really need to solve this problem as it is taking away from my productivity and causing me to re-install far too often. I will post the BSOD info as well as my system info below (and a screen shot):
    Quote
    MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION
    *** STOP: 0x0000009c (0x0000000000000004,0xFFFFF80000113BC0, 0x00000000B2000000, 0x0000000000070F0F)
I looked that up on the net, and it seems the first part seems to indicate, or at least COULD indicate overheating. I checked CPU and System temps and they seem acceptable.
I am running Windows XP x64 Edition with the following hardware (please note that all of the hardware drivers I'm using are written for x64, MSI is so good:)). I have had this PC before it started having these problems, it could be related to using x64 I guess, but the error doesn't show that does it?

My OS and drivers are fully updated. As for my BIOS I've been running the version I'm using now forquite some time and I believe it is version 1.5. Also in another bad turn of events, my northbridge fan seems to be on its way out of this world (this just happned so I don't think its related to the BSOD). I haven't been able to find a replacement, and since its not spinning very fast, and sometimes stops...It's causing the heatsink to get quite hot. I need to get a new one, and I can't find them anywhere...I wonder if thats covered under warranty... I looked into getting a different heatsink, but my Graphics card is so colse to this heatsink, that theres no room for a bigger one at all.
Do you think this problem is motherboard related, I cannot understand what the technical info the BSOD gives me means, can anybody understand it? I don't think its my HD's, or Ram, or CPU...could it be a motherboard problem? And if so, its under 1 year old, can I get an RMA?
Thanks for the help in advance.

At one time I had a weak 450w psu that had only 18a on the 12v rail.  When I overclocked my cpu and gpu, I was getting bsod's every once in a while and couldnt figure it out until I read a similar post like yours on this forum.  I decided to upgrade my psu and havent had that problem since.
Power supplies can be deceiving.  I now have a 480w psu but its has 30a on the 12v rail.  So what we need to know is the ratings of your psu (see my sig) just to see if your psu is the culprit.  Just my 2 cents.
