BSOD when Ipod Service goes to running / started state

All,
I have had somewhat random BSOD's on my laptop and after reviewing the event log, I see these two events preceding the BSOD:
**1
The iPod Service service entered the running state.
**2
The iPod Service service was successfully sent a start control.
The BSOD usually occurs when I try to telnet to another server from my laptop while tunneled into my work environment (using a Cisco IPSec VPN).
I find it highly coincidental that this service state changes within seconds of every BSOD.
I have been unsuccessful in reproducing this error consistently- my guess is some kind of race condition exists so it only occurs under specific circumstances
Has anyone else seen similar behavior? I have uninstalled Itunes from my laptop for the time being and will see if the error persists. Long term, I would like to use Itunes (&& sync my Ipod) on this machine.

I installed iTunes in April and within a couple of days began getting crashes of my computer about 2 days of every 5. Interestingly, they pretty much all happened at around 6:46 a.m. - the computer would just shut off. Not restart, simply stop. Silence.
After much trial and error, this seems to be caused by the Ipod Service. If I manually stop the service after running iTunes, the system no longer crashes. (It's now been six days without a crash.) This looks to be the culprit...probably a conflict related to a scheduled update or to some other service that runs at that time of the day.
I'm running Windows XP with all patches and service packs.

I've removed reinstalled, wiped the registry reinstalled and deauthorized, removed and reinstalled from several different downloads. I have full permissions fo rservices and am administrator.. We now have three other units in teh office with the same issue.
    now what do I do?

Don't know about fixing PitStop. However, have you tried a simple repair on Acrobat. If Acrobat won't open you can do that from the Programs and Features menu (Add/Remove Programs in OS prior to Win7).

  • Is it possible to run a command when a monitor goes to a healthy state?

    Hi,  I'm using SCOM 2007R2
Is it possible to run a command/script when a web application Monitor changes to a healthy state?
I have a web application monitor that checks four different websites from our proxy servers.  on the aggregate rollup of all four sites I have a health rollup policy of 'Best state' meaning
that the monitor will only go critical if all four sites are unreachable. If that happens I have a Diagnostic task that runs to Stop the w3svc service.
This stops the proxy server serving ‘Page cannot be displayed’ content to the users within the company.
What I would like to do is start IIS automatically when the web application monitor goes to a healthy state.
I’m guessing I’m going to need a script that perhaps pings the sites every few minutes then starts the w3svc service if it gets a result.

    Hi,
I recommend you touch the Orchestrator, Orchestrator can integrate
    SCOM.
Use Orchestrator to design a Runbook for your task. When the state of a web application Monitor changes to healthy, then run a command/script.

  • IPod Service Will Not Run

I have an 80GB iPod Classic and when I downloaded iTunes 8, this box popped up saying that "iPodService Module has encountered a problem and needs to close". It does this and it won't let me sync my iPod because my iPod doesn't show up in iTunes or the disk manager. I've gone to the services by right-clicking on My Computer, Manage, Services and Applications, and then Services. I then tried to run the iPod service but the box popped up again and wouldn't let me run the iPod Service which I think is causing the whole problem. *How do I get around this glitch to get my iPod service running again?*

    Hello, Welcome to Apple discussions.
There may of been something that prevented the update to iTunes 8 from installing all services properly. This can sometimes be caused by security software such as
    -Windows Firewall
    -Third Party Firewall
    -Ad-aware, Spyware prevention
    -Pop Up Blockers
    -Antivirus Software
    -Security Center Software
-Registry Scanner software which requires permission to allow registry changes while installing programs
*You may find you need to either update these programs, or disable them or other times uninstall them for installation to be successful. With firewalls they can either be disabled or be told to allow Apple Software based on their settings.

  • BSOD when iPod is connected

I use Windows Vista and the latest version of iTunes. I have a 30gb iPod 5th gen.
I have always used Winamp to sync music onto my iPod but on my old PC I had to install iTunes, after this it told me to restore my iPod, so I did, and then everytime I plugged it in I would restore, then it would ask me to restore again. This was on XP. I have since bought a new Vista PC and plugged in my iPod, I formatted it through Windows and when it came up in iTunes I restored it. Now whenever I plug it into the USB port I get the BSOD and an "0x00000007f" error.
    Help is much appreciated.

Thank you kindly, adam. Although it didn't give us a name of a component, that screen indicated that the PC has been collecting dumps of the crashes, which indicates a way forward.
First we'd better check to see if the PC has been collecting minidumps (rather than other forms of memory dump.
    Go Start and click "Computer".
Doubleclick "Local Disk" (Usually it's your C: drive.)
    Doubleclick "Windows".
Is there a folder called "Minidump" in there? If so, doubleclick on that.
Are there files in there called "Mini(number-numbers).dmp"?
(If you have "Hide filename extensions for known file types" enabled on the PC, the ".dmp" extension may not appear on the dump files. The numbers in the file name will be different for each minidump, if minidumps are present.)
If you can track down where the minidumps are being located, next we'll use WinDbg (Windows Debugging tools) to interrogate the minidumps to see if that turns up the name of a component (or components).
    1. Download and install the Windows debugging tools from here (If you've got a 64-bit Vista, use the 64-bit version of the tools):
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/installx86.mspx
    2. Go to Start, All Programs, Debugging Tools For Windows, Windbg
Once you open Windbg, you will presented with a blank screen.
    3. Click on "File > Symbol File Path". Here you will enter the symbols
path. Symbols are needed to effectively debug.
    The path will be:
    SRVc:symbolshttp://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols
    4. Enter in this path and click OK. Now, go to "File > Save Workspace"
so that your symbols path is saved for future use.
    5. Go to "File > Open Crash Dump" and load the file.
(An "Open Crash Dump" screen will appear ... doubleclick "Computer", doubleclick "Local Disk", doubleclick "Windows", doubleclick "Minidump", and doubleclick on one of the minidumps in there.)
*If you get a dialog at this point saying you don't have permission to open the file, try this:* OK out of the permission warning dialog. Right-click on the minidump file (In the "Open Crash Dump" screen), and select "Properties". Click the "Security" tab. Click the "Advanced" button. Click "Continue". Check the "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent" checkbox, and click OK. Click Yes when the Windows security box comes up. Close the "properties" screens at this point, and go back to "Open Crash Dump", and try doubleclicking on the minidump again.
You will/should get a message to save base workspace information. Choose no.
Now you will get a debugging screen. It takes a little bit to run it,
as the symbols have to be downloaded as they are needed.
After the "bugcheck analysis" part of the screen comes up, look for the component that seems to be causing the crash. (It'll say "Probably caused by" ...)
Let us know the precise name of the component. (Include any file name extensions like .dll or .sys.)
If you can, have a look at several of your minidumps for iPod-connection-related-crashes (fingers crossed, the date-and-time-created for the minidump files, or the numbers in the filename of the minidumps which indicate the date of the crash, might be able to allow you to identify the ones associated with plugging in the iPod). Are all the crashes being caused by the same component? If not, could you let us know the names of the various components being cited in the various crash dumps?

  • Itunes 8 - ipod Service failed to start

    Hello,
Got the ipod service failed to start message appear when I upgraded to 8, managed somehow to get it working, this morning when I was prompted to upgrade to 8.01 it came up again and will not load so I have no itunes.
    Help anyone? Thanks

I hate to piggy back post but this still isn't answered and I have the same problem.
I try to connect my iPod to my desktop and the comp reads it as a disk but every time in iTunes it comes up with the iPod Service Module failed to start (or something). On my laptop it reads it just fine and as much as I could us my laptop instead of my desktop, I don't want to. Any help anyone?
Oh. I have also un-installed and re-installed multiple times, and I don't have any third party software on my iPod. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks. Unfortunately I've already done that and it doesn't work. I've included the -Xrs option in the managed server java command line arguments, see below. However, either it is in the wrong location on the java argument list or something else is going on, because it is not working. See the JVM command line below of the managed server.....

  • T61P BSOD when docking with Advanced Port Replicator

Seems that I'm seeing more and more BSOD when hot docking my T61p running Windows Vista.  Machine is on and I dock and get BSOD.  Any ideas?  This was working fine for a while, I'm not sure what changed

    Thanks... that's interesting...
So this Dynadocking station looks good (unless someone can point me to potential drawbacks). It leads me to believe that I can ditch the idea of buying a new Toshiba laptop and actually buy another brand and use the new laptop and my old M5 with the same Dynadocking station.
In that case, my remainder question is: I have internal drives that I swap in/out both my M3 and my M5. *Has the internal hard drive interface changed as well with the M9?*
    Cheers

  • When I download itunes, it says that Ipod Service failed to start. I checked the services under task manager and when I try to start it, it says access denied. How to I get access and for the ipod service to start and run?

Please help. My ipod classic could not be recognised by itunes when I connect my ipod to PC. Previously it has been recognised before I updated. This was a while ago now and so I removed all apple files and re installed the latest itunes but am having the same problem.
When I download itunes, it says that Ipod Service failed to start. I checked the services under task manager and when I try to start it, it says access denied. How to I get access and for the ipod service to start and run?

Some anti-virus programs (e.g., McAfee) have this rule that can be invoked under the "maximum protection" settings: PREVENT PROGRAMS REGISTERING AS A SERVICE. If that rule is set to BLOCK, then any attempt to install or upgrade iTunes will fail with an "iPod service failed to start" message.
If you are getting this problem with iTunes, check to see if your anti-virus has this setting and unset it, at least for as long as the iTunes install requires. Exactly how to find the rule and turn it on and off will vary, depending upon your anti-malware software. However, if your anti-virus or anti-malware software produces a log of its activities, examining the log may help you find the problem.
For example, here's the log entry for McAfee:
9/23/2009 3:18:45 PM Blocked by Access Protection rule NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe \REGISTRY\MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\iPod Service Common Maximum Protection:Prevent programs registering as a service Action blocked : Create
Note that the log says "Common Maximum Protection: Prevent programs registering as a service". The "Common Maximum Protection" is the location of the rule, "Prevent programs registering as a service" is the rule. I used that information to track down the location in the McAfee VirusScan Console where I could turn the rule off.
After I made the change, iTunes installed without complaint.

    Hi,
For BugCheck FC, it indicates that an attempt was made to execute non-executable memory. For more details,

Did you mean that just use a standard domain user account to start the service, then encounter the issue? If
configure Log on as Local System account, will no BSOD issue occurred? Just a confirmation, thanks for your understanding.
Please check if you install all necessary Windows Updates on the server.
In addition, as you know, troubleshoot this kind of kernel crash issue, we need to analyze the crash dump file to narrow down the root cause of the issue. However, it is

  • "iPod Service Failed to Start" message when upgrading iTunes

When upgrading iTunes from Version 7 to the newest version, I got an error message stating "Service, 'iPod Service' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient priviledges to start system services." So I canceled the download and rolled back to Version 7 again. I did notice that now I'm getting an error message when I start up Version 7, stating that it could not start the iPod service. I just bought an ipod Classic and cannot use it without the latest version of iTunes. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure but since it's saying there's a library issue, you could try running:
    # ldconfig
Failing that you could try a:
    # pacman -Rns slim
    # pacman -Syu slim
I tried both "ldconfig" and "pacman -XXX", but the problem is still there.
Maybe I need use another way to recompile slim in my machine.
But I have no time to test it now, I will try it another day.
