BSP - Portal Session Handling

Hi all,
is it possible to pass session information from one BSP to another in NW04? I am asking this because of the following problem:
- calling a BSP IView opens a session and a new mode in the R3 backend system for the user requesting this BSP IView
- navigation towards a new BSP IView with the same user again opens a new mode in the R3 backend
- this behaviour can be seen for each additional BSP IView that is being called
Is it possible to configure the portal so that it receives the session/mode information for the first BSP IView call and that it passes it on for every subsequent BSP call? If yes, how can it be configured (does it have something to do with the "Authentication Schema" property of an IView?)?
Any input on this would be greatly appreciated!
Best regards,
Helga

I am not sure whether the session can be shared between different ivews .
If your concern is about too many backend sessions, portal's DSM Terminator would kill the previous session when moving from one iview to another iview.

  • Calling web query from BSP application: Session handling

    I would like to call a BI 7.0 web query from a BSP application.
    Therefore, I generate a link like http://<server>:50000/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fcom.sap.pct!2fplatform_add_ons!2fcom.sap.ip.bi!2fiViews!2fcom.sap.ip.bi.bex?QUERY=CR_M_0001_SALESFORECAST_0&VARIABLE_SCREEN=X
    Now, I have the problem that I have to log in again.
    The BSP application is embedded in the portal. SingleSignOn works for the BSP application, but not for the following link to the query.
    Anybody know how to execute the query w/o login again?

    i guess this is more related to ITS.
    which ITS are you using?
    integrated or standalone.
    i checked in both (using standard webgui service) i dont see any problem using /n or /<transaction>

  • Regarding session handling in BSP

    hi all,
        we have integrated our BSP application to EP 5.o, we have used 'existbspapplication'(used buffered page) function in our default page to handle the sessions.
       and its working fine, but now we have to integrate it to the  EP 6.0 and we find the sessions are not terminated, and tend to remain after closing the application manually.
       my question is does portal handle sessions if yes, tried the same(by removing session handling code from default page) but could not get the desired result. is there any other way to handle sessions in EP 6.0
      thanks,

    Hi,
    Did you set the checkbox for portal integration on in the properties of the BSP page?

  • Portal Session content in BSP

    Hello,
    My BSP inside an iView is located in the xRPM content. What I now try to achieve is, to hand over the chosen project-id from the portal to the BSP - iView.
    request->get_cookies provides me with the cookie "sap-appcontext", which I think contains the portal session-id. Since BSP has it's own session-id, I somehow have to get the session - content of the portal, where I hope, the chosen project-id is stored.
    Am I on the right way?
    I would appreciate any help or suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.
    Daniel

    <i>How can I register such an event inside xRPM-content without modifying the standard-source? Or how can I find out, if there's an event fired I could use?</i>
    I see no real easy way. I have never seen the source code of xRPM, and know no developers inhouse to ask directly. Effectively portal eventing is just JavaScript code. To see if xRPM supports any events, why not look at the outputted HTML. Look for anything to do with EPCM, or search for events.
    <i>It's hard to understand, why it's not possible to access session-information of the portal from a BSP started in the same page...</i>
    What exactly session information do you wish to know. From my understanding, you have a BSP running inside the portal. Inside this BSP application you wish to know something. I assume not exactly session ids, but some other information from the portal. Maybe this helps us.
    At the low level of HTML is might be easier to understand. The portal renders the HTML page, and then starts the BSP inside an <iframe>. The BSP does not know anything about the surrounding environment. Of course you could use JavaScript to walk up the dom (document.parent) and look at things inside the other frames. But keep in mind you are in the browser, and not on the portal server, not in the ABAP stack (where BSP is). So you can only look at rendered code. And this can (and will) change per SP.
    At the end of the day it is all plain HTML in your browser, and this are what sets your limitations.

  • ERP2004: ESS JCO session handling in Web Dynpro apps?

    Hello,
    we run ESS/MSS Web Dynpro scenarios, running on WAS 6.40, SP12 in
    Enterprise Portal EP6 SP2 Patch 32. Our go live will be with > 1000 ESS users.
    1. When will the sessions in R/3 backend system be terminated by the
    Web Dynpro Application?
    How is the session handling in FPM (Floor Plan Manager) implemented?
    2. Are there any recommendations regarding the JCO connection settings
    in Web Dynpro Content Administrator (Maximum Pool Size, Maximum Connections,
    Connection Timeout, Maximum Wait Time) to reduce / optimize the load for the
    backend system? I found a documentation in SDN but it is not
    specific for ESS / MSS based on Web Dynpro.
    Background of questions above: The customer is worry about the load on
    SAP R/3 backend side: too much current users in the R/3 backend system,
    possibly bad performance etc. because the JCO sessions are open a long time.
    Are there any experiences with customers running productive ESS / MSS scenarios
    based on Web Dynpro?
    Thanks & Best regards,
    Daniel

    Hi,
    1. For best practices on JCO settings follow the tutorial below and do it accordingly for your no of users. YOu might have to do some trial and error procedure.

  • Portal session still exist in child window after logout main window

    Hello community,
    here's a short summary about our business scenario:
    We use performance management (SAP HCM) within our SAP ERP 6.0 and SAP NW Portal 7.0.
    With the application performance management we use some bsp- and webdynpro-iviews from the business package MSS.
    Some of these applications opens a second portal window (child windows) for doing the work.
    If the user logoff only the main portal windows with the "logout"-link and also close this window (e.g. he forgot to close the child windows) the user have the possibility to make changes (e.g. in the opened performance management document) in the child window.
    This behavior isn't allowed according our company principles. If the user logout on any portal window (also at creating of new portal sessions with STRG+N) all the sessions of the user should be terminated.
    Which possibilites do I have to solve this problem?
    Thanks for your help!
    Kind regards,
    Bernd

    Hello,
    yes, I found a solution.
    In the iView-parameter you can put in the following value:
    PortalSessionID = <ClientWindowID>
    This value ensures that in the opend window no changes are possible.
    In the opend child window there is now a pop up to log on to the ERP-system.
    Kind regards,
    Bernd

  • Trouble with session handle???

    Hi everybody, its me again... i solve part of my problem but now i have another problem thats bothers me....my scenario is the follow: i have an app running in a portal, then i have a link in the portal who bring me a pop up of the active page of that app, that is shown on the portal in that moment. when i call the pop up, some class attributes change its values for do something, when i close the pop up, those class attribute refresh and take its initial values (values necessary to run correctly in the portal) BUT, when i minimize the window (no close it) and start to manipulate the app in the portal (the app is statefull), the values stay the same as if i was operating the app in the pop up and obvious do something that it should'nt do. My question is: there is some way...may be with session handler like sap-sessioncmd (i test it but it doesnt work), that help me to manage diferent session for the pop up and the app running in the portal...or may be some parameter (that is pass it via url) that help me to create another object of the class when i calls the pop up

    thanks for the help. I thought Id tell you more about what I
    am doing and see if you have comments - we use google to market our
    company so clicks are costing us big bucks. currently, our sites
    rely on session management to operate, so I realize that folks
    having cookies off is really hurting us. All the references I can
    find tote passing the session.URLToken around the site to make it
    cookie independent. I havent done this yet, first im trying to get
    a handle on how many people have cookies off (like you are), and
    where people are coming from to see if we are having click fraud
    (which we are very suspicious of).
    Is this what you would do (passing the URLToken around)? Any
    other comments you have would be very much appreciated.

  • Closing and Killing Portal Session Error

    Hi Experts,
    I'm getting some problems with my killing sessions. We did some implements with Integrated Planning and repots are running in the portal. I have noticed a dramatic low performance in my portal and I realized that sessions are not closing in the portal. I've been trying log our from the portal session and the session still alive (I seem them in SM04 transaction). How Could it be possible if I'm logging out properly?..... Is there something I've been missing???? What else Could I do for fixing the problem???
    Thanks for your help (Any help would be rewarded).

    Hi,
    As far as understand you are running reports from an ABAP backend system in the portal and the sessions in the ABAP backend system are not closed by the portal.
    Which technology are the reports based on (BSP, transaction) ?
    It seems to me the Distributed session management(DSM) in the portal is not working  and therefore not triggering the closing of the sessions in the backend when the user logs off or navigates to another page.
    (it might also be that the BSP is defined as stateful )
    See http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ca/a9a7408f031414e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm for more info on DSM

  • How to set a variable in portal session using web dynpro java.

    Hi,
    I have created a web dynpro application, which is running inside portal. I have created a role called "R1". Inside role R1, i have created 3 workset W1, W2 and W3. and inside each workset i have some pages and iviews.
    My requirement is when user logins to the portal , and when he clicks on role R1 for the first time, a login page should come (so that we can do revalidation), and when he enters his password again in that login page , then only workset W1, W2 and W3 should be visible/accessible to him and after successful revalidation, if he clicks again on role R1, in that particular portal session, than that login page should not come.
    for this, i thought i will set a variable in portal session, whenever user successfully revalidated himself, and if after successful revalidation he clicks again on role R1, i will check in doinit method of webdynpro whether variable is set or not (which i already set on successful revalidation), and if it is set then i will do Donavigation else i will present login page to the user.
    Can anyone tells me how to set a variable in portal session using web dynpro java.
    thanks

    Hi,
    Try this:
    WDScopeUtil.put(WDScopeType.CLIENTSESSION_SCOPE, key, value)
    WDScopeUtil.get(WDScopeType.CLIENTSESSION_SCOPE, key)
    Ex:
    WDScopeUtil.put(WDScopeType.CLIENTSESSION_SCOPE,"Key1","Value1");
    String value1=WDScopeUtil.get(WDScopeType.CLIENTSESSION_SCOPE,"Key1").toString();

  • Can portal session cookies be used between two data centers

    OAS generates the following header information and session information for my application. However when I need to failover the originating OAS datacenter into my hot stand-by for maintenance or upgrades, the OAS in the other datacenter responds with a 503 web error. We are using Akamai's GTM to manage the liveness of the datacenter, so we would need the hot stand-by OAS portal in that datacenter to return a 302 error code. Is there some method that we can add to our portal application which would always return a 302 error code.
    See header information collected through wfetch. The 503 error is caused by the hot stand-by data center not accepting or recognizing the cookie. Both OAS datacenters are IDENTICAL in Oracle levels, application levels, web servers, portals and OS patches.

    Hi John,
    This question is probably more appropriate in one of the Portal forums, but perhaps you can take a look at the information in section C.5 Configuring the Portal Session Cookie in Appendix C of the Portal Configuration guide.

  • Again Session-Handling

    Hi there, one question about session-handling in JSP.
    I'm trying to set attributes in the JSP and afterwards get them back.
    No chance! They always vanish! Here is the code:
    <%@page contentType="text/html"%>
    <%@page import="java.util.*"%>
    <html>
    <head><title>JSP Page</title></head>
    <body>
    <%
    // Output of Session-Attributes
    for (Enumeration enum=session.getAttributeNames();enum.hasMoreElements();)
    String name2 = (String)enum.nextElement();
    String value2 = (String)session.getAttribute(name2);
    out.println(name2+":"+value2);
    // Set Attributes that I get from Form!
    String name = request.getParameter("name");
    String value = request.getParameter("value");
    if (name!=null)
    session.setAttribute(name,value);
    %>
    <form action="SessionTest.jsp" method=get>
    <input type=text name=name>
    <input type=text name=value>
    <input type=submit>
    </form>
    </body>
    </html>
    Really dont have a clue!
    Thx, ToM

    Works ok for me:
    Couple of suggestions: put the setting code, before the display code.
    That way you will see the pair that you just set in session ;-)
    Also try this:
    Session id = <%= session.getId() %> and see if it stays the same.
    If you are getting a different session every time, then its not maintaining the session.
    Common cause of session problem is: cookies are turned off.
    Either turn cookies on, or use URL rewriting:
    <form action="<%= response.encodeURL("SessionTest.jsp") %>">
    <%@page contentType="text/html"%>
    <%@page import="java.util.*"%>
    <html>
    <head><title>JSP Page</title></head>
    <body>
    <%
    // Set Attributes that I get from Form!
    String name = request.getParameter("name");
    String value = request.getParameter("value");
    if (name!=null)
    session.setAttribute(name,value);
    // Output of Session-Attributes
    for (Enumeration enum=session.getAttributeNames();enum.hasMoreElements();)
    String name2 = (String)enum.nextElement();
    String value2 = (String)session.getAttribute(name2);
    out.println(name2+":"+value2 + "<br>");
    %>
    <form action="SessionTest.jsp" method=get>
    <input type=text name=name>
    <input type=text name=value>
    <input type=submit>
    </form>
    </body>
    </html>Cheers,

  • Problem on "Session Handling"

    Hi everyone,I write a simple servlet program on Session handling.In this I use invalidate() method to invalidate the session.
    invalidate() But the problem is that when i push the back button the session data gets back,means in the previous page session data gets visible.please help me.

    All what you can do is to instruct the client not to cache the page. You can do this by adding the following entries to the HTML head:
    <meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="max-age=0, must-revalidate, no-cache, no-store, private">
    <meta http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache">
    <meta http-equiv="expires" content="-1">If you want to do this programmatically on HttpServletResponse (using a Filter or so):
    response.setHeader("cache-control", "max-age=0, must-revalidate, no-cache, no-store, private"); // HTTP 1.1
    response.setHeader("pragma", "no-cache"); // HTTP 1.0
    response.setDateHeader("expires", -1); // ProxyMake sure that you clears your browser cache before testing.
