BT 3.1 - No more windows 7 startup sound

Hey there Apple forums!
I decided to install Windows 7 on my Mac a while ago. I had Bootcamp 3.0 and all the problems related to audio that BT 3.0 had, including the red optical light. Once BT 3.1 was released, I decided to install it. Notice how I hadn't changed any driver from Bt 3.0 until I installed 3.1.
Once I installed the update, most audio problems were immediately solved. No more ghostly red optical light, no more laggy audio, etc. Audio output was still low, but nothing "Enchance audio output" couldn't solve. I was seemingly happy, until i realized that the windows 7 startup sound played no more.
By startup sound I mean the chime that plays when you're in the login screen. This is a very small glitch, as it used to work in Bt 3.0, even with the audio issues it had.
Is there any solution? And before you begin asking protocol questions, yes, the startup sound IS enabled, yes I have the default Windows sounds set, I haven't changed the theme (don't know if that even matters, it shouldn't matter).
If it helps, when i connect two low speakers to the audio output jack and start Windows, and raise the volume, I CAN hear the startup chime in the login screen. But there's not even a faint sound when the external speakers are gone.
Should anyone know a solution, please help me with a post. And the speakers I have suck, so they're not an option.

Hi
Had same problem, tried everything like reinstalling drivers but still the problem continued. However today i tried changing the driver for the sound card to the generic driver and rebooted my macbook pro. on startup the sound card would not work on the generic driver and the system kicked in with an automatic troubleshoot and installed the correct drivers.
Somehow this has enabled the startup sound to work and the system doesn't startup in a muted state.
Haven't a clue why or how this has worked or how long it will continue to work but give it a go.

  • Change Windows 7 Startup Sound?

Has anyone found a foolproof way to change the Windows startup sound (imageres.dll)? I've tried a few methods and none of them let me complete the processs, even in Safe Mode.

After reading this entire thread I had to throw my two cents in, in hopes of saving you folks a lot of grief...
In windows, some things were not meant to be changed. Case in point:
Back in the days of Win2K and XP, I used to be way into "skinning" my system, using such tools as Stardock, Winblinds, XP Themes (the themes that skin the start menu, change the system icons - completely revamp the GUI). Every time I used these,
they worked fine for a while, but eventually explorer came unraveled - I'd close a folder and artifacts - sections of the window - would remain on the screen and couldn't be removed without restarting windows. Then explorer would start crashing frequently.
It would finally get to the point where I couldn't use the system at all, with all the explorer crashes, etc. and I'd have to re-install windows. This happened on several different PCs and in win2k and XP. I later learned that just replacing the system icons
(the folder class, start menu icons, etc.) would cause the same problems. I finally abandoned the practice of skinning windows altogether. I haven't tried such things in vista or win7, as these OSes came out after I had stopped skinning.
The moral to the story is, beware of changes that microsoft doesn't approve of - there may be a good reason. I was thinking of changing my win7 startup sound, but after reading all of the hit-and-miss replies to this thread I've changed my mind. I did go
out to the WinAero site mentioned in one of the replies to see if that might be a safe alternative, but after reading one of the comments there by someone with win7 64-bit whose icons got totally hosed after running their Startup Sound Changer (my system is
64-bit) I've decided to either put up with windows' startup sound, or just disable it and use a cool logon sound. This is the path I would recommend - do otherwise at your own peril. It may work for
some people, but from the replies I've read here you may end up re-installing your OS. Not worth it for me...
In Windows, some things are not meant to be changed.

  • Startup Sound Continues to play

I have Win 7 Home Premium with the settings below, but the LOUD start-up 'music' continues to play.  What's wrong?

(I'd include a pic, but the forum says "Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account" -- which was already done, because I'm logged in and can post -- go figure...

    Hi,
This issue also can be caused by Sound Card Driver, please also try to reinstall it for test.
In addition, please also check Event Viewer if it identify this problem.

  • Delayed Startup Sound

For ages I've noticed that every now and then my MacBook Pro's startup "boing" is delayed for maybe 5-10 seconds after pressing the power button. This happens perhaps every tenth startup, though I've not kept an exact count. Normally the sound comes almost immediately as expected. It's not related to any particular version of OS X, it's happened for at least the last 2 or 3 versions if not longer. I have the same issue with my 2008 24" iMac, so I don't think it's anything to do with the hardware.
My best theory is that there is some extra, longer-running, startup test that only gets run every tenth or so startup, but Intel-based Mac: Startup sequence and error codes, symbols - Apple Support only mentions the regular ROM and RAM tests occurring prior to the sound, and I can find no mention of this behavior anywhere.
    Anyone know what's going on?

  • Startup Sound Phenomenon

When I turn on my iMac, it plays the startup sound and repeats the first part of it, then cuts off halfway through, and does it again and again for a while until the apple logo appears, and everything else is fine. This happens mostly when I am coming from the Windows XP part of my mac.

i'm having the same problem. and it's not all the time either. i got my macbook in june and it's been happening since i got it. i have a black macbook, everything stock. i probably should've called it in but....just didnt. it can be plugged into my external, or not and make the sounds. it could be after being off all day, or not and make the soungs. sometimes switching from windows, sometimes not. but yes, the startup sound will play, then once more but shorter, then again but shorter, and then go to the apple logo. quite strange. do you think it could be related to this?

  • No startup sound on Yosemite

After installing Yosemite, and sorting out varios issues, I still don't get a startup sound?

    Hey there Rolf,
Resetting your PRAM should return your startup chime on the computer. This article will walk you through doing that on Mac OS X Yosemite:
OS X Yosemite: Reset your computer’s PRAM
Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.
Important:    To print these instructions, click the Share button  in the Help window, then choose Print.
Choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
After resetting your computer’s PRAM, you may need to update your speaker volume, display resolution, and startup disk preferences. For more information about PRAM, see the Apple Support article About NVRAM and PRAM.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    dear,
most of the times when i boot my lap, it doesn't give bootup windows sound. but some times it gives.
and when we opening a folder, then i will be also giving some sound in windows xp and windows 7. but this is not giving in windows 8.
is this is, laptop problem or windows 8 os problem ?
will you please suggest me, which could be the issue.
    best regards,
    paulpandian m.,

    Hello Paulpandian,
The reason it does not play may be due to the fast startup option within windows 8/8.1.
You can read more about the subject through the following link.

  • Won't turn on past the startup sound

    Hello,
I'm a student studying abroad right now in Senegal, part of Sub-saharan Africa (which might help for later on).
My iBook won't turn on past the startup apple noise (the daaaaauummm). When I press the power button it makes that noise, along with a minimal amount of internal processor noise, and then nothing past that. The internal noise basically stops, and nothing comes up on the monitor. This problem started yesterday--I was using my computer and then the screen started to go fuzzy and get static and then it just went blank. Although I said that I don't get anything past the startup noise, I think my computer is still on (even though it isn't doing anything) because if I want to get the startup noise again I have to force shutdown the computer (hold down the power button for 10 seconds). Furthermore, when I do get the startup noise, the lighted ring around where the power adapter plugs in goes from orange to yellow and stays yellow for a bit. However, no light illuminates around the power button on the computer.
At first I thought maybe there was a problem with my monitor. I followed two of Apple's troubleshooting steps, resetting my parameter RAM (I think holding control command P and R) as well as resetting my computer's PMU (shift control option and power button) and for both of those, I managed to actually get something on my screen--the apple with the gear around it popped up and stayed there, but then after about 3 seconds it got the same staticky and lines and then went black again. When I tried to replicate this by doing the exact same thing (for both solutions) I was not able to get past the startup sound (ie the screen stayed blank) and it was back to square one.
Basically, I'm stumped. There are power cuts here in Senegal, along with subsequent power surges when the power comes back on, which lead my Dad to think that maybe my motherboard got fried. However, there is a power adapter on the cord which should block against that. Furthermore, that won't explain why the laptop was working right before it fritzed out on me, even though it was not plugged in. I'm thinking that maybe there might be a bug in my computer (like a physical one that crawled in). I am thinking this because there are bugs that crawl around my computer and under my keys (it's not as gross as it sounds--well actually I guess it is...) and furthermore I was out of town this past weekend so my computer was sitting idly in my room. Could it be that a bug actually made it deeper into my computer? But also, that still wouldn't explain why I was able to make it work on Monday.
I will be here in Senegal for 3 more weeks, but I would like to use my computer before then. Is there anything I can try to fix myself here, or will I have to wait until I get back to the states. Is there anyway for me to al least get some of the stuff off of my harddrive--that's all I really care about? Obviously, there isn't an apple store here in Dakar, Senegal, for me to take it to--although there are a few computer places but it seems like Apples aren't too popular here, and so I'm not sure how effective/knowledgeable they'd be with a Mac. Plus I'd have to explain all of this in French, which wouldn't necessarily be the easiest thing.
    Thank you sooo much,
    Chris
And for my operating system, I'm not sure if I clicked the right one, but I know I'm on one of the newer ones (not the newest though)

Hi, Chris. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It sounds like you may be having logic board problems. Enough Dual USB G3 iBooks suffered from this problem that Apple began the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program in January of 2004. Check out the FAQ page and if the symptoms look familiar, give Apple a call.
Since it is past the three-year time limit, try calling and ask for Customer Relations (NOT Customer Service--they can't help you) and ask them to please make an exception to the three-year limit in your case.
You may want to consider trying the shim fix suggested by John Sawyer elsewhere here in the Displays Forum:
[Y]ou can often fix this yourself by removing the iBook's bottom housing, and placing a shim of any sort, about 1mm to 1.5mm thick, onto the raised square on the bottom shield. I use a Scotch mounting square--you can get them in hardware stores and many grocery stores. When you reinstall the bottom case, it will press against this shim, which will press against the graphics chip, and may allow the chip to come into better contact with the logic board.

    CJS Macintosh Repair
Instructions for removing the lower case:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/50.5.0.html
Once you get it fixed, try never to pick it up by the left front corner alone. Rumor has it that can contribute to logic board failure when the case flexes, causing the graphics chip to come loose from the logic board. If you're picking it up in your left hand (as I often do mine), pick it up in the center under the trackpad.
Good luck. Let us know how things go.

  • How do i turn off the startup sound on macbook pro?

how do i turn off the startup sound on macbook pro?

You don't. You may find some third-party software that will, however. Try Auto Mute.
    Alternatively, you can try this:
I think this is the best and simplest solution. Open a Terminal window and type (or copy/paste) the following to turn down the startup noise:
         sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume="%00"
    Press RETURN.
And to restore it to the original value type:
         sudo nvram -d SystemAudioVolume
    Press RETURN.
    That's all folks.

  • How do I enable the startup sound on Mac OS 10.2.8(Jaguar)

    Three things
1.How do I enable the startup sound on Mac OS 10.2.8(Jaguar)

I like the startup chime of mac osx but it doesn't seem to be chiming when I turn the computer on.

    3. How do I update the computer (e.g. Windows update kind off thing)
    Please help.
    Cheers,

    1. Make sure the volume is on. Check that the machine makes other sounds.
    2. Here is a link for Safari for a Mac 10.2.8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2964
Though I'd be surprised if it would be very useful. Things have changed a lot on the internet since that came out. An old version of Firefox might be better. I don't know where you would get an old version of flash. It is an Adobe product.
    3. There are no further updates to  Jaguar 10.2 than you already have, 10.2.8 that was the last update.

  • MacBook Doesn't Play Startup Sound

Hey guys, for some reason, my Mac doesn't play a startup sound when ever its booting up and the volume is on max. Any ideas as to what might cause this?
    I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.3 (Lion)

Had this same thing after the 10.7.3 update.
Try turning the computer off for a time, 10 minutes to whatever number of hours.
Then when you turn it back on hold down the Option key and when the boot menu screen come up select your Macintosh HD to boot from. Once booted to the OS go into Sys Pref, Start Up Disk and select the Macintosh HD and Restart.
Also I have noticed that the startup, Boot POST (Power On Self Test) sound is of a lower volume then it was before the 10.7.3 update. No matter what the volume is set to in the OS. Apple trying to get rid of that obnoxious sound so people will actually reboot their computer more often.
