BT Broadband drop off

Dear all,
Moved to Wimbledon in April, set up BT Broadband soon as I moved. Wireless was always a bit flaky but acess to PS3, Mac, PC and BT vision was fine using BT Homeplugs and ethernet cables. For about six weeks though, the broadband light on home hub keeps flashing orange on and off, which presumably means broadband resetting?
At first this was just an inconvenience as it happened rarely, but for last week of so its more or less continuous.
BT sent replacement hub, but same problem. Have swapped ethernet cables, filters and plugged into every phone socked in the house, still same problem. No noise on phone line (which seems to be 'live' when broadband not available) and the lights on homeplug remain green.
before I try BT again, anyone got any insight/advice?
Many thanks

First socket where the line enters the property
old type has a one piece cover new one splits in two horizontally is held on by 2 screws and exposes the test socket when removed

  • Broadband connection keeps dropping off

Hi everyone, anybody having a problem with there broadband connection dropping off constantly with the new BT infinity broadband. I constantly have to switch my IPad off when I am on line and my laptop and wireless printer is also being affected by this. Can anyone suggest how I can correct this problem? Thanks in advance for any help. j

If all of the connections are wireless it is probably an issue with that rather than the Infinity connection itself. Download Inssider 2 onto your laptop and check if another network is using the same channel as yours.

  • Help! Broadband keeps dropping off

I need some help.I rely on my infinity to work at home. Since beginning of the week the broadband has been constantly dropping off I suspect it may have happened prior to then as tablet would be offline in morning. Now it's dropping, at times, every 20 mins. Work are very annoyed. I have to connect the systems wireless( hence why chose "good" Infinity).I'm on hub5.  The internet only drops for few seconds but enough to kill everything in house. Once the hub went orange but usually blue. We have replaced the micro filter, reset hub with pin twice, changed channels, split the WiFi to 2.4 and 5Hz. Still dropping off
They say nothing wrong with the line but with our previous supplier they said we had imbalance on copper wire. I'm now suspicious it was never fixed. Called bt today but got no answers to my questions. Right at end of one hour call was told that software is to blame but it's going to take a week to fix. What do I do about work? I can't connect wired and I'm going to lose my job. Obviously my questions were outside the script ...
HOw can I be certain it's still software problem ? Is there any way I can connect to the main socket with my laptop wired to see if still dropping off rather than the hub? Can I use a different router? Is the hub less stable on an extension from master socket?
Can the customer service people actually see if there has been a millisecond drop off? They said they can see I've only had two but it's more like 5 an hour. Even happened when on phone. I can be sat within metre of hub and it still drops off. How can I tell if someone is interfering with the WiFi connection in the house? What do I need to be asking them  to check regarding the copper resistance. One customer service representative said he'd reset the Cooper. Personally I can't see that happening as engineer previously picked it up by getting to the house only.
Like I said I'm getting so worried as broadband is essential for my job.
    Thanks

Apparently I said last post was solved but it's not. Can someone advise on my line info? Thanks

  • Broadband drop out

My broadband drops out and  all the lights flash. Just joined netflix and we can't watch anything as it just keeps buffering.
At that point I check the bt home hub v2 b and the lights are going crazy. Also at night when I am checking my emails on my tablet the connection will just drop out. I've lost count the many times I've reset the hub. I've pulled all cables and turned off all the things that uses wifi.
I've checked bt for b/b faults and my area code is not in a fault area.
Is it time the hub was changed to the latest bt hub , my sister lives 500yds away she has no problem with the latest bt hub. We have a bt vision box and can never get bbciplayer and other channels on the box.
Can anyone suggest my net move or should I have a rant at bt?

when was the last time you renewed your contract?  if more than 12 months then you are on a rolling monthly contract and any discount you had has ceased.  you could save monet by phoning the uk based options team and negotiate a new contract cheaper and at same time get a new hub thrown in  options team 0800800030
the hh2 is old and has known problems

  • Broadband dropping for 2 months and crackly phone ...

    Hi,
Does anyone have any suggestions as to who I can contact in BT regarding an issue that has been going on for the last couple of months please?
My broadband connection drops off constantly and has to be restarted, sometimes take 30 minutes to work again then drops straight back off. The phone line is also crackly and getting worse. I have phoned the call centre in India and spoken to a number of different people who, whilst helpful and assuring me that they will 'own the problem', never manage to get it fixed. All say give it two or three days and they will call back to check but then - surprise surprise no phone call! Have spoken to 4 different people today and some say there is a fault whilst others say there is not - clearly there is, my broadband has been off 10 times in the 4 hours I've been trying to use it. Am getting very frustrated and starting to look at other providers..........

HI if your phone line is crackly then you need to phone 151 and report a noisy phone line but do not mention broadband when you do once the noise on your line is solved your broadband will improve  changing providers will not help as broadband still comes over the same lines regardless of who the provider is

  • Broadband drops every few hours

My broadband drops out every few hours and takes me between 5 - 15 minutes to reconnect.
I have good speed (for here! about 1.3mb down) and this doesn't change but the connection drops at least 5 times a day. It's been doing this for at least 3 months. Sometimes it does just run very slow, but mostly it drops altogether.
The only way to get it working again is to turn off the router and turn it on again, then after anything from 5 - 15 minutes for it to reconnect.
It happens to all the computers we have connected, all via wireless, some mac some pc on Win 7.
    Can anyone help please?

I will try changing the filter and cable, I may have tried this a while ago but will again.
Quite line has very very slight crackle but I don't think it's anything, we live a long way down the line in the coutryside and I never had better.
Not dropped completly since last night
but this is last activity showing how it's connecting, not sure what the fails mean..

  • Internet constantly dropping off Home Hub 3

    Hi All
Hoping that someone can assist me as I am about to give up on BT and move to Virgin due to having unuseable Broadband.
I have had issues for some weeks now and spoke to BT who said there was an issue on the line and then arranged after a long wait of over a week for them to test the line, come out and then fix the issue.  The home hub was dropping off and the orange light would come on .  SInce they have fixed this issue the blue lights are on the home hub but i still have issue with internet constantly cutting out.
I am using Windows 8 and have my home hub near the TV.
Basically the itnernet keeps dropping out and when i look the Home Hub connection on windows 8 will show either no connection at all or limited connection.  I then have to reset it or disconnect it and the sign in again and it works again but only for a few minutes.  It can drop off every few minutes so is in effect totally unuseable.
Any suggestions as to what this may be.

as it is probably your wifi that is dropping and not your internet you can try downloading inssider3 (istumbler if MAC) and then run it. This will show the broadcasting networks round about you and their channels including your own. If you then enter your router and change your wireless channel to a free or less congested channel.

  • Macs drop off and won't connect to BTHub - Macs an...

We've got 2 Macs in our house which keep dropping off the BT Infinity Broadband hub and won't connect again
    here's the thing:
The macs work fine on all other broadband at other locations
The other devices in the house work fine
It's just the combination of Macs and and our home BTHub broadband
recently it's got worse - the last few days more often than not the macs won't connect
    We've tried
    1. turning macs on and off
    2. resetting macs
    3. turning BT broadband hub on and off
    4. turning the Mac airport wifi on and off
    5. in network settings tried both automatically set to BTHub and manually.
    None of this has worked.
    This is so weird.
    Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Separating the 2.4 and the 5GHz works straight away.
Go to bthomehub.home on a device that will connect (your phone will do fine)
    Advanced settings
Enter the admin password from the card on your router
    Continue
    Wireless
    5GHz
    Sync with 2.4GHz: No
SSID: add a 5 at the end so you can tell the difference
    Hit apply
Now forget the network on your Mac (System Preferences-Network-Wifi-Advanced)
There should now be two versions of your SSID in the list (the original and the one you added a 5 to)
Your mac should correct straight away to the 2.4GHz (so without the 5) but you'll probably need to put the password in the first time.
It's apparently a known fault in Macs that they struggle with the 5GHz internet
Good luck, if any of the steps are wrong please correct folks, this was very very frustrating for a long time and actually only took 5 minutes to fix!!

  • Broadband cut off and a whole other mess by BT - h...

I have BT Total Broadband and Unlimited Anytime.....and I receive 2 bills from the same company....why can't they just charge me one amount per month for all the services I get from them??
So....I somehow missed a DD payment in December for my Broadband. BT then tried to take this payment twice more on the 8th and 16th December  (without telling me first!) and then charged me £10 because they failed again. If I'd been notified that they would try and take the money twice more, then I could have made sure the money was in the account. Surely this is against the DD regulations and I should be notified 10 days prior to an amount being taken?
They send me a statement in the week before Christmas saying "you don't need to do anything - we'll take this amount from your account on or just after 6 January' (with the failed payments on the statement)
So I do nothing and wait for the money to come out.
Woke up this morning and my broadband was off....with a nice message in my browser telling me to 'click here to pay now' and my broadband would be reinstated immediately. I clicked the link and paid the money on my debit card....my broadband came on, but my broadband phone says 'you cannot make or receive calls from this line'
Checked my bank account online and they haven't taken the money they said they would take on the 6 January
So.......I phoned them up tonight at 17.50.The guy in India tells me that the payment made this morning (on my debit card) has actually gone towards my phone plan and not my broadband plan!! So I ask him why and he can't tell me. Surely the link on the browser page relating to broadband being off should take me to a payment page for my broadband, and not my phone plan.
Now I'm no further forward, and can't even SEE my account online because it won't add a broadband account to MyBT.
And to make things even worse the guy in India cut me off half way through trying to get this sorted out. I phoned back and get a message saying 'the help desk is now closed'
What an absolute joke this system is......I've now paid money to the wrong account (to which I'm now in credit), need to pay money to my Broadband account, but can't. Not because of any problems of my own, but because BT choose to have a closed help desk, and they also choose not to let me add or see my broadband account online.
And they also told me they'd take money from my account on the 6 January, didn't take it, and then cut my broadband off today
Ever so frustrated - why do BT repeatedly mess up like this and frustrate their customers?? Can someone answer this please as I'm sick of talking to call centres who don't have a clue what's going on

    Hi Astephenson,

  • Broadband dropping all day for 6 weeks, no fix by ...

For the past 6 weeks I have been in contact with BT's "Customer Service" to try and fix an on going problem with my broadband which drops roughly every 10 - 15 minutes throughout each and every day - one test showed it had dropped 90 times in one day alone.
Despite weeks of being told the same thing - switch off, restart, reset etc etc - There was still no fix and after further calls to India I was told to replace the Hub. However, depsite years of being a BT customer, as my current contract had ended, I was told that I had to pay for this unless I signed up to another 12 month contract.
Based on the fact that the "Customer Service or Support" had hardly been forthcoming on this, plus the fact I may be moving flats in a few months I wasn't keen to do this so agreed to pay for the new hub and also delivery which set me back over £60 . . . .
Of course, the new hub arrived, was all set up and the same problem persisted.
Finally this week, they agreed to send an engineer who I was assured would be able to fix any problems. The the friendly man from BT arrived promptly at 8.15am this morning. He stayed for an hour, checked out the connections, installed a new wall socket, switched the one week old Hub with a new one and all seemed fine. However, an hour later the old problems returned and for the rest of today the Broadband connection has been disappearing every 10 - 15 minutes.
As a result I have spent a further two hours on the phone with India again today trying to get BT to resolve this problem . . . . Which has resulted in an appointment for NEXT WEDNESDAY for another engineer to come along.
This is now infuriating. I work freelance and this means working from home a few days a week and I am finding it impossible to work with a connection that constantly drops off. There has been no urgency from BT on this matter, and each time I ask to be put through to someone to log a proper complaint, and to get a response on why this is taking so long - and costing me money for equipment to be replaced which is obviously not faulty - I am fogged off each time. They say they will make a note on my file that I am unhappy, but there is no response on this?!!
How am I meant to get this resolved? All I desire is a broadband connection which does not constantly drop off and an acknowledgement from BT that this has not been dealt with properly and that my complaint needs appropriate attention. Additionally, no one seems to take note of the fact that I have been charged for a new Hub which is now clearly not the cause of the problem . . .. .
Any ideas? I am at my wits end. Woudl appreciate thoughts or contact from a BT employee who actually has some authority!
    Phill

    I have a brand new Hub 3
Engineer replaced the socket today and now cable connected directly to the socket.

  • Satellite drop-offs

Since setting up satellite broadband service, my Mac (Not my PC), has been experiencing frequent, brief drop offs, almost Always without losing my ethernet connection, nor my IP. Putting my laptop to sleep for a few seconds, or unchecking and rechecking Ethernet in Network Port Configurations, will usually fix the problem, although temporarily, Below are some logs. I Really appreciate help getting this issue fixed. I've already confirmed the problem isn't with the ISP.

Satellite M640,I5 2410 processor, windows 7HP. After about three minutes the sound drops off when connected to the av reciever through the hdmi outport. This problem does not occur if I use the computer to play an audio CD. Any fix suggestions.

  • When I try to open the "markets" page on the Firefox hompage, it displays for 3 or 4 seconds and then drops off; I get a white screen; this does not happen with Explorer.

When I open "markets" from the homepage, it comes up but drops off after a few seconds and

  • Broadband dropping out, noise high, speed slow

Have had past problems with high noise, which seemed to have been solved by having the mods reset noise down (thanks) with line speed increasing up to around 2Mbps over the last couple of weeks (great from where I was previously).  See http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Speed-Connection-Issues/Slow-broadband-downstream-line-speed/m-p/33081...
Tonight around 4:50pm (when all the kids in the neighbourhood have come back to their homes, and are playing online games) broadband drops out, noise jumps up to 22 from about 15 where it was previously I think, speed dramatically drops to less than 1Mbps.
Q1: Any idea how to get noise down again and speed back up?
Q2: Have I got a faulty hub that it keeps dropping out like this (hub is quite new)? Peculiar that it seems to happen at busy periods though - I've had this kind of drop out before, which is why I'm going straight to the forum.  I have already had broadband boost engineer out in the past and that makes me think it's unlikely there's anything wrong with my line.
Any ideas about solutions will be gratefully received!  (Just started working from home office today with 3 people - had thought I had us all on 2MB+ - but not now!)  Help!
    Thanks
