BT Broadband PPPoA to PPPoE

Hi There,
Has anyone been able to get a CISCO ASA 5505 & Draytek Vigor 120 working with BT Broadband (non BT Infinity)?
I get as far as an I.P. address issued to the outside interface but no connectivity to the internet.
Thanks

Update: Stunned amazement MAC code actually received........blood pressure now verging back to normal after the run around given to me by BT yesterday. During the last phone conversation, the BT represenative, grasping at straws, actually claimed that the faster broadband speeds being offered by their competitors in my LLU unbundled telephone exchange were unachievable on both my home broadband  line and in my telephone exchange, when I had personally witnessed ADSL 2+ speeds of 12-15Mbps on my next door neighbours broadband connection, when I was only receiving a meagre 5.8Mbps with BT.............Adieu BT.........you will not be missed.

  • Broadband pppoe to Airport Extreme to Express

    I am using pcs but have an Airport Extreme in my office just outside me home, extended via hardwire to an Express in my home. We are rural and have been using best available sat service. The network setup has been wonderful. I switched to Skynet boradband via towers - internet (much better) last Friday. Skynet uses pppoe, and in trying to reset the Apple devices with pppoe I have not been successful.
    The Skynet connection works great connected directly to my computer, but the AEXT does not connect, username and pw for the pppoe server has been entered in the Airport Utility. Resets and attempts at various utility settings have failed.
    I am sure the Express will need settings tweaked when the Extreme is up and running.

    Thanks Bob - no solutions yet - but thanks for your time so far.
    The desktop and laptop I was using both have wireless cards and both showed connection to the AEXT - Apple Network via wireless. The AEXT - though connected and configed for the pppoe connected - never recognized the connect - UN and PW correct and cable functioning.
    I completely deleted the bb pppoe connection from the desktop computer and tried again.
    I was using the old sat connection direct to the laptop for previous communication but now have the ppoe connected to the desktop and using it for this compostion - working well.
    The old sat is connected to the AEXT now. Laptop and 2nd desktop receiving wired (desktop) and wireless signal (laptop) - working well. The problem seems to be  in connecting the ppoe to the AEXT, and no recognition of the pppoe by the AEXT.
    New Situation: The Express in the home is reconnected to AEXT via ecable fed by the old sat service and powered up. The Express is not showing on the Airport Utility menu for config - but the light is green.  An additional laptop and tablet in the home are not receiving wireless signal from the Express.
    I would like to dump the sat service ASAP but will not until I get the whole sysem working again  - my wife is a facebook addict and is complaining about her lack of in house wireless signal. Are you in TX? Donde?

  • Having trouble connecting to wireless at home

    My router is a wireless one on our PC and I type in all the information but I feel like I'm going about it all wrong. My question is that do you need an Airport base to connect to a wireless router?? If you don't can you please like walk me through it.
    Someone please help.
    Thank you.

    Yes that is what I mean connecting to our wireless router, our toshiba laptop can pick up the Broadband PPPoE connection but my when I turn airport on, it doesn't show up at all. How can I make it so this Broadband PPPoE connection shows up in my airport?
    The more common case is where the router connects to the ISP by PPPoE and the clients of the router aren't aware that the connection is being made by PPPoE.
    I have seen posts describing the case where a computer connects by PPPoE through a router. In that case it seemed that the ISP required the computer to make the PPPoE connection and only allowed one computer to connect at a time. Your ISP should be able to explain the requirements for your service.
    Some more questions: Is your Toshiba laptop connected to the router by Wi-Fi or Ethernet? Does the Toshiba network connection show the PPPoE connection details? What is the brand and model of your wireless router?

  • Re: System Preferences - Network - retrieve password

    A representative from China Telecom recently set up my broadband PPPoE connection on my macbook pro.
    I can only see my Account Name in clear text.
    The Password used is displayed only as a number of dots...
    How can I retrieve the entered password?
    I own the machine have full control of the macbook but cannot read the password entered, neither can I copy the password entered....
    Is there a way around to do so?

    I found the solution myself.
    Go to Utilies - Keychain Access.
    Under System - Password find PPPoE - rightclick and select "Copy password to clipboard" - enter your macbook pro administrator Username and Password.

  • The Flashing Orange Power Light Of Doom! [HH3]

    I've had no internet service for a week now, on Infinity 2 with HH3.
    All lights on the white modem are green, the hub won't even start, just goes to a steady orange, then after about 15 seconds, a continuously flashing orange power light, and stays there.  The other lights are dark.  Power cycle doesn't work, holding down the reset button doesn't even reset it.
    After lengthy "troubleshooting" on the phone with India, I received a replacement HH3 yesterday, plugged it all in and got all blue lights for all of 3 seconds and then - wham - reset to flashing orange light, which now stays there no matter what I do.  The issue was escalated to "Tier 1 support" by India yesterday, but heard nothing.
    No service problems reported in my area according to the BT website, but India seemed adamant that it was a network issue (after being adamant that it was a faulty hub earlier in the week...).
    This is getting very frustrating now, anyone have any idea what could be causing this ??!   I really just want an engineer to come out but India wouldn't arrange that.

    It should be quite easy to prove by bypassing the hub and connecting the modem to the PC, then setting up a broadband PPPOE connection.
    Here's some instructions provided by Rygg
    try a direct connection to the modem. This will rule out your homehub and internal wiring as the fault.
    1: Remove the homehub from the modem
    2: Connect your pc/laptop into the modem using LAN1 port
    3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
    4: Connect to the Internet (the top option) then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
    5: Username [email protected] and the password as anything you want
    6: connect, if it cannot connect, just keep pressing try again if this happens and it will eventually connect.
    If you found this post helpful, please click on the star on the left
    If not, I'll try again

  • Hub 3 needs to be restarted every day to restore s...

    Hi
    Every day, our Hub 3 needs restarting to restore our speed. It has been constantly 37+ MBPS for months. Recently, both wired LAN and wireless connections have slowed to 3Mbps.
    Speeds checked on BT Wholesale Speedchecker, Lan and Wifi
    All ususal checks completd
    Used BT to check the following:
    Line Checked = OK
    Problems in our area = 0
    Used Inssider to identify wireless channel 1 as clear from interference. Speeds still drop (Both Lan and Wifi)
    Reset the Hub and Hey Presto, speedy Wifi and Lan for a few hours.
    Wake up in the morning, same old story, slooow infinity.
    Reset the Hub and Hey Presto, speedy Wifi and Lan.
    Get home from work, slow again, and around in circles we go for another week.

    Make a direct connection from your PC to the modem which will eliminate the homehub. Follow this guide to do that. Use your computer as normal for a while to see what speeds you get. If the speeds do not improve you will know it is probably a faulty hub. Obviously you can not use wireless devices or other wired connections when doing this.
    Step 1: Remove the homehub from the modem
    Step2: Connect your pc/laptop into the modem using LAN1 port
    Step3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
    Step4: Connect to the internet then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
    Step5: Username [email protected] and the password as BT
    Step6: connect, If it doesn't,keep pressing try again until it does.

  • Windows Server 2008

    I installed Windows Server 2008 on Boot Camp and then inserted the Mac OSX Leopard installation dvd and installed the drivers that were on the disk. So far I have encountered these three main problems.
    1). No audio or system sounds work through my speakers.
    2). I cannot connect to the internet wirelessly.
    3). I cannot install the aero theme in "Window Color and Appearance"
    I noticed that if I go to Star>Control Panel>Network and Sharing Center>Connect to a network>Set up a connection or network>Connect to the Internet> The only option to connect is Broadband (PPPoE). If you are thinking that it is because I don't have the feature enabled in the Server Manager I have already installed:
    .Net Framework 3.0 Features
    .Net Framework 3.0
    XPS Viewer
    Desktop Experience
    Quality Windows Audio Video Experience
    Wireless LAN Service
    If you are thinking that because of the name Wireless "LAN" Service that it is not a internet connection but instead just a LAN connection then you might be right but there are no other Features in the Server Manager that have to do with wireless.
    The weird thing about this problem is that I installed Windows Server 2008 on my friends computer last night (2.4 GHz Black MacBook) and Every thing worked (including audio, wireless, and the aero theme).
    If anyone has an suggestions or solutions please post them or if anyone has a suggestions of a place to call or post my questions that would also help. I am not sure if Apple Care will support this problem so I am hesitant to call / take it into the store... Thanks!

    I just solved my problem with the aero theme not working in Server 2008. The problem was that the Leopard dvd that I used to get the drivers from (which included a 3d driver for my NVIDIA graphics card) was from my other iMac (2.4GHz older version still aluminum though). This dvd did not include the drivers for my new iMac so I have to.
    1). Download the drivers from NVIDIA.
    2). Insert the Leopard installation dvd that came with the new iMac and hopefully all my problems will be solved due to using the right drivers.
    I am restarting now to install appropriate drivers and will keep you posted on my problem.

  • Upload won't go over 9Mb?

    Noticed recenrly that any speedtests I do.. the upload is showing the old 10Mb speeds.. I have reset ther router, reconnected the modem tried wireless and wired.
    Also the btwholesale checker says the profile is 20Mb?
    Any ideas?

    as legitimise_sailing, try direct pppoe connection (see below for help)
    also try Thinkbroadband tester, more reliable for upload, though I don't think it will indicate the difference you hope for.
    http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html
    The upload profile is always 20 for Infinity 2, it does not vary with the actual sync speed in the same way the download profile does.
    ~~~
    Try connecting a PC or Mac directly to the modem: a bit of a faffle I am afraid.
    - connect from the modem LAN1 (that is usually connected to the HomeHub/router), to the standard ethernet port on the PC/Mac (that is also usually connected to the router.)  So the HomeHub is out of the picture.
    - Make a pppoe connection.  On a PC it will be something like
    - 'network and Sharing Centre',
    - 'Set up a new connection',
    - 'Connect to the Internet, set up a broadband or dial-up connection'
    - 'Broadband PPPoE'
    - Then enter username '[email protected]' and password 'bt'.
    Detail may vary a little between different version of windows, and of course even more different on Mac or Linux.
    Repeat your speed tests and see how they go.
    That will help check out if the HomeHub is the problem.
  • Infinity2 dl 1Mbps up is fine :/
    So my Infinity has been ok since install a while ago. Recently dropped from 50 to about 30 then yesterday dropped to about 4 down to 1.1
    Up is between 14-18 so on target.
    Advance test ip profile is 63Mbps
    So I spent 5 hours on online chat support testing testing . Usual issue of can't do anything you must be wired to router. Made no difference.
    Sent a screenshot of the 2nd part of the test speedtest.btwholesale.com and tech said wasn't a BT test! Hmmm
    So the lines apparently fine after they have run tests and they can't do much more and will call back tomorrow to try another speedtest as it was showing busy.
    Fingers crossed it's ok tomorrow more like they don't have a clue what's wrong and keep getting me to turn stuff off and re run speed tests :/
    They said if I request an engineer it's my cost!
    Now I'm not daft and do my companies it so know enough to suspect they have messed something up somewhere but how can the line show to fine:/
    Nothing new or changed in my house.
    Seems to have happened to others this.
    Any suggestions?
    Have you checked if there are any problems with the BT network in your area.
    https://www.bt.com/consumerFaultTracking/public/faults/tracking.do?pageId=31
    If your IP Profile is where you would expect it to be this would tend to indicate that DLM (Dynamic Line Management) has not detected any faults on your line and lowered your speeds. I could be a fault at the exchange or a fault with homehub or modem.
    Do you have a separate Openreach modem. If you do you could bypass your homehub to rule it out.
    You can make a direct connection from your PC to the modem which will eliminate the homehub. Follow this guide to do that. Use your computer as normal and run a speed test. If it comes back OK then you know it's a faulty hub.
    Step 1: Remove the homehub from the modem
    Step2: Connect your pc/laptop into the modem using LAN1 port
    Step3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
    Step4: Connect to the internet then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
    Step5: Username [email protected] and the password as BT
    Step6: connect, If it doesn't,keep pressing try again until it does.
  • Re: Upload speed issues
    I am tagging on the end of this thread as my issue seems very similar to the OP.
    For the record I am on an Openreach fibre converter and HH3
    The above has been updated, cycled and repeatedly played with no solution to the problem
    After two pointless and highly stressing sessions with the broadband help desk and then a call to customer services who accepted that there seemed to be an issue on my line, openreach then refused to visit as they did not contractually have to guarantee an upload speed. The fact is, until a few weeks ago my upload speed was good and now it is terrible.
    If I move to Plusnet, also supplied by Openreach, Plusnet have assured me they will drive openreach to deliver the published capability of the line which Openreach tell them is 56/17. Do I really have to migrate just to make openreach do their job?
    In order to rule out the Homehub as potentially being the device responsible for your speed loss, you can connect the Openreach modem directly to the PC and see if the speed improves.
    To do that follow these steps:
    Step 1: Remove the homehub from the modem cable
    Step2: Connect your pc/laptop to the modem via the cable instead
    Step3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
    Step4: Connect to the internet then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
    Step5: Username [email protected] and the password as BT
    Step6: connect, If it doesn't,keep pressing try again until it does.
    However, please note that this will stop any other access apart from the PC
  • Why do we bother - more BT incompetence
    I had an appointment for Bt infinity installation for today - and I am pleased to say the engineer turned up.
    This would be great except I isn't get my hub delivered!
    After spending 30 minutes on hold on the phone I am told no one ever ordered one!
    Can anyone at BT explain why they seem
    Incapable of even the most basic jobs?
    I am now sat with no broadband and no chance of getting it until after the bank holiday.
    Unbelievable! unfortunately not - very believable for BT these days
    Step1: Connect your pc/laptop into the modem using LAN1 port (LAN2 is disabled and not in use)
    Step2: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
    Step3:  Connect to the internet (the top option) then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
    Step4:  Username [email protected] and the password as broadband
    Step5: Reboot PC or laptop
  • Per Session / per User shaping and queuing not working on 7206/7204 on 15.2
    Hello,
    we are running the following scenario - to provide QoS (shaping/queueing) for our broadband (pppoe) users, we have configured several service-policies on our 7206/7204 BRAS-Routers. The service-policies are applied with RADIUS-Attributes when the pppoe-users dials in. The service-policies look like this
    policy-map POL-BM-DEF-P_4m-DSCP-OUT
     description << Parent Policy 4 mbps >>
     class class-default
      shape average 3900000
      bandwidth 3900
       service-policy POL-BM-DEF-C_4m-DSCP-OUT
    policy-map POL-BM-DEF-C_4m-DSCP-OUT
     description << Child Policy 4 mbps >>
     class CM-VO-DEF-DSCP
      priority 900
      police cir 900000
       conform-action transmit
       exceed-action drop
     class CM-VS-DEF-DSCP
      bandwidth 100
     class CM-ID-DEF-DSCP
      bandwidth 900
     class CM-MS-DEF-DSCP
      bandwidth 600
     class CM-MC-DEF-DSCP
      bandwidth 300
     class CM-NC-DEF-DSCP
      bandwidth 150
     class CM-NM-DEF-DSCP
      bandwidth 150
     class class-default
      bandwidth 800
    We are applying the policies with the following Cisco-AV-Pair attribute
    lcp:interface-config=service-policy output POL-BM-DEF-P_4m-DSCP-OUT
    Until recently that did work pretty good when using software 12.2(33)SRC3. But it turned out that there is a bug in this software that causes that the policy is applied but not working correct sometimes. See bug CSCsv27825. Although that bug does not match the software we are using, the symptoms do. Basically the parent shaper is not working, so there is no backpressure, no need for qos to kick in ;-)
    The recommendation was to upgrade to Version 15.2(4)M5. When downloading the image there was a recommendation on the website to use Version 15.2(4)M6 instead, because of some important bugfixes. So we installed that, system cmes back online, everything works - except the service-policies. they are not applied at all any more.
    After doing some tests it turns out that
    - Policies that shape are not applied. It does not matter if using the ip:sub-qos-policy-out=xxx or lcp:interface-config=service-policy output xxx attribute.
    - Policies that police like the one here are applied
    policy-map POL-POLICE-DEF-P_1M-DSCP-OUT
     class class-default
      police 1000000
    We prefer the shaping way, because of the smoother handling of bursty traffic.
    Any ideas/recommendations ? I've tbeen readign a litte bit on the internet - that problem is not new, but unfortunately no one has a solution :-(
    Best regards
    Carsten
    Short update: as soon as some queuing configuration is present in the policy (parent and/or child) it is not applied. i tried to be extra clever and combine the "policer" parent policy with our child-policy which does priority queuing - not applied. Even the parent-policy alone with no child policy (just the shaper)  is not gettign applied.
    Any ideas what to debug to get a reason why it is not working ?
  • Openreach white modem probs
    hi all just got bt infinity in yesterday and its fine,if i leave my pc on it wont loss connection but as soon as i shut pc down then  back on later i have to reboot the openreach box to get the internet on,all blue lights are on and all the 3 lights on the openreach box are on but still have to reboot it everytime any one got any ideas please
    Sure, I'm new to this too but this is how I got it to connect.
    Step 1: Remove the homehub from the modem
    Step2: Connect your pc/laptop into the modem using LAN1 port
    Step3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
    Step4:  Connect to the internet (the top option) then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
    Step5:  Username [email protected] and the password as broadband
    Step6: connect, for some reason it may say that it cannot connect, just keep pressing try again if this happens and it will eventually connect.
    If you don’t get any problems while connected like this it’s likely that your homehub is causing stability issues as I think mine was, my best advice would be to contact the mods about this as they are very good at sorting problems.
    I hope this helps.
  • Help, problem with ethernet t42
    i have a t42 laptop and i can not connect to the internet with the ethernet cord, my wireless is working fine ( wouldnt care if i actually had a wireless router). i have download all the drives download and nothing works.  i tried to install the 100/1000 thing and it says that i dont have the hardware?? whatever that means cause i if this computer has the port for the etherbet that it has to have the hardware. checked the bios and nothing. did all the windows update and nothing.i go into internet connections and it only shows the wireless. the only time i see the ethernet when im cr8ing a new set up connection or netword and i click the box where is says '' show connection options that this computer is not set up to use'' when i click it. it shows the broadband PPPoE( i think thats the ethernet right?) when i try to connect like that i get ''connection failed with error 651''  i feel like i wanna break this thing. can some please help me and put the ethernet back this laptop. thank you in advance
    Your LAN card is dead, or disabled in BIOS.
    If it's dead you'll have to get a PCMCIA card since Gigabit LAN is integrated into the motherboard on these machines and can't be replaced.
    Good luck.
