BT Cloud back-up client problem - PC device conte...

My upload speed is only 0.4 Mbps, so I was a bit stupid giving BT Cloud a trial! However, having given it a trial, I persisted, even thought it took weeks to upload my files. After it had uploaded my selected folders, it worked fine.
So when I planned to upgrade from XP Pro to Win 7 it was a case of finding a way to retain my uploaded folders or ditch BT Cloud. I studied the forum advice and choose to change my PC’s name, by adding XP to it before installing Win 7. After installing Win 7, I installed BT Cloud and all my folders were present in the ‘XP device’ at btcloud.bt.com.
As a test, I backed up one folder from my now ‘Win 7 device’. All went well and the folder was present and associated with my ‘Win 7 device’ in btcloud.bt.com. From the speed of the backup it appeared that the files were not being uploaded but re-associated with my ‘Win 7 device’.
As my original backups to BT Cloud were more than half of 50GB, my approach then was to backup a folder to my ‘Win 7 device’, then delete that folder from my ‘XP device’ and clear the Trash.
As far as possible, I store all my data in my D drive. So when all the folders from my D drive were present in my D fold in btcloud.bt.com. Finally, I deleted my ‘old’ XP device.
I did not take the same approach to the data in my C drive, as there was little and often the path had been changed in Win 7. So I simply backed up selected folders.
Every thing seemed fine until, in the back-up client, I look at the ‘Win 7 device’, which only showed a C folder. The back-up client can ‘see’ all the correct folders in Settings and all the files appear to be present in Collections. However, it appears to be singing from a different hymn sheet than btcloud.bt.com when it comes to my PC device.
Is it possible to correct this error? Sorry for the long post!

It would seem that most users of BT cloud just give up on using it and opt for one of the excellent paid for services that actually work. I recently had an email from BT asking why I was not making use of my free 50 GB. BT don't seem to listen to their customers concerns about how unusable and awful the cloud service is. Perhaps when they dump f-Secure who provide the service we may get something useable.

How can I put back my iPhone as a device in View My Account iTunes in the Cloud Manage Devices?

I went into this list and noticed that I had my old iPhone 3Gs and my new iPhone 5s listed as devices. I also had 2 PC's listed. So there were 4 devices associated wih my Apple ID. Here is a little background. When setting up my new phone, I had mistakenly given the new phone the identical name as my old iPhone 3GS, then realized that was a mistake because it would be hard to differentiate between the 2 phones in lists (for example: Restore backup lists is a very good example). So I changed the name of my new phone so it would be different.
My old phone was called Bruce's iPhone and my new iPhone was called Bruce's 5s. Even though I had changed the name of my new phone, the list of devices under View My Account > iTunes in the Cloud > Manage Devices had the 2 phones still listed with the same name, Bruce's iPhone. I was able to tell the difference by the date the devices were established, but I did not like that.
So I used the 'Remove' button and deleted the listing for the newer listing of Bruce's iPhone. Now, no matter what I try I can not get that new name and that device to get back on the list. There are now 3 devices only.
Since I did this, I have developed the issue where when I sync, the system hangs on Step 7 of the Sync, "Waiting for changes to be applied". I stopped it after 3+ hours. Then I restored my most recent backup (to the Cloud) and the next Sync worked. I have no idea if the above action on my part is in any way connected to my developing the syncing issue.
Does anyone know how I can get that device, my new iPhone 5s, called Bruce's 5s back on this list of devices? I seem to be able to do all the actions I want to with the devicer and my Apple ID. But the coincidence of the above change that I ran into didn't make me smile either.

Ok. Found something that said to shut down and hold the option, command, p, and r keys on restart. Held them down for a few restarts and everything automatically signed in and works. Woohoo!!!

B4 - Server failed to flush BER data back to client

I'm running Java Directory Server version 7.0 64bit on Redhat Linux 5.4.
I'm noticing these errors in my logs when an application using Windows 7 attempts an SSL ldap query:

The Windows 7 application is unable to get the expected ldap response and fails the operation, preventing the application from running correctly. Any ideas as to what this error is and what I might be able to do to address it?

Here's what I discovered today - and this only occurs with applications installed on Windows 7. The same app installed on Windows XP does not have this issue. The application is configured to connect to a DNS FQDN of (sisd-mahp.xxx.xxx). That FQDN translates to an IP that is configured on a Cisco load balancer device. There are two ldap servers behind it that are round-robin'd (sisd-mahp1.xxx.xxx and sisd-mahp2.xxx.xxx). In the SSL certificate of each of those two servers I have defined X509v3 Subject Alternative Names including the load balancer IP and the individual Linux hostnames. When the Windows 7 client uses the FQDN of the load balancer virtual IP it fails, when it uses one of the sisd-mahp1 or sisd-mahp2 it works.
That leads me to believe that there is some inherent problem with the Windows 7 client libs and the load balancer or the Subject Alternative Names. When the client attempted the SSL BIND it got an unexpected result from the server SSL certificate and aborted the connection, which resulted in the failed flush BER data messages on the server.

iOS devices do backup automatically to iCloud providing:
iCloud Backup is turned on
It has a Wi-Fi connection
It is connected to a power source
The screen is off
5GB is plenty of storage for me to backup to iCloud automatically.
I have a 64GB iPhone & a 128GB iPad both backing up to the same iCloud account and I still have nearly 2GB free.
This is mainly because media is not backed up and Photo Stream & iTunes purchases do not count against your iCloud storage.

I want pictures from each device in the cloud, but not on every other device. Possible? "iCloud Backup" alone doesn't seem to work....

My goal is to acheive 3 of the following things.:
Have all my apple devices sync pictures to the icloud *without* syncing the pictures on all the devices...so just one direction from device to cloud and not have all the devices insync from the cloud...... I don't want all the devices in sync, I just want the pictures protected in the cloud. To do this, I've tried to just turn on "icloud bacn-up" and not turn on "photo stream" to acheive this, but doesn't seem to work.
If #1 is possible, then I would like to sync the icloud with a folder on my PC using the icloud app for the PC. Not sure if I can have only the icloud PC sync and not have all the devices in sync?
If #1 and #2 could work, then I would sync the PC folder with my local storge.
end result would be all my photos save in the cloud and a safe copy my home in my local storage. I would have thought that most people would want to do this, but doens't seem so obvious to me as to how I can get it to work?

You can't use iCloud as a safe place to store your photos when they are deleted from your devices. iCloud designed to stream photos to your devices, and to back up photos currently on your your devices as part of your iCloud backups. However, photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days, giving your devices enough time to download them. And if you delete a photo stream photo from any of your devices, it is also deleted from iCloud and from all of your devices. Furthermore, while camera roll photos are included in your backup, if you then delete the photos from your device and continue backing up, the backup containing the deleted photos will be overwritten by one that doesn't, and they will be lost.
If you want to save your photos, import them from the camera roll to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083. Then you can delete them from your device.
If you would rather have a cloud-based place to store your photos, look into a service such as Dropbox.

Got a RMI Client problem

}Also your implementation is wrong, you better take a look at some examples (like the java tutorial, including the rmi tutorial, or if you're using eclipse there are some working ready to use examples in the rmi plugin for eclipse (google it).

If the reset doesn't help, the next step would be to restore the device to factory settings using iTunes on a computer. If you can backup the iPad first, do so and then restore to factory settings. If it all works out properly, you can restore the backup after you finish. If you didn't or can't backup, the iPad will be erased when you restore to factory settings.

IF you can't restore that way, the next step would be to try using recovery mode.

A quality externally enclosed hard disk drive setup for use with a
full system clone, to boot & run a Mac from a copy, is a fine idea.
{carbon copy cloner - bombich software? one of the better bets}
So far, in my several years experience with computers, I'd rather have
access to the backup hardware devices and perform manual ones, too
than rely on some remote servers, over thousands of miles of distance.
Helps to also have a backup computer, a duplicate to run the clone, etc.
Perhaps someone will recommend one of the advertised carbonite or
other brands, however I fail to be impressed by gadgets & gimmicks...
Though some may be fun, I don't have time for fun or wasted expense.
Some other users who contribute here may have fast internet access
of a reliable nature, and have committed a larger portion of their digital
live's work to the 'cloud' but from my experience, clouds are weather.

Can I recover an older i-Cloud back up? One of the so called "Genius" at an Apple store backed up the "restored" info on my iPhone without telling me until after he had completed the process. I had already backed up to iCloud prior to restoring my iPhone 5 (nothing but problems with this phone). I have a back up on my PC from February 2013 but have since added contacts and photos/videos.

Then yes, and you will see that back up available to you.
You can check it by going to storage and back up under icloud and clicking manage back ups.

Hi! You mentioned about 1.1.39, is that your current firmware? Did you try to update the firmware to Ver.1.1.40 (build 153731) and experienced the same issue? Did you also try changing the channel settings on the 5Ghz network?

Spreads removed when Indesign files are posted to Cloud Storage for client review

Although my document is set up with facing page spreads in indesign, when I post it to my cloud for the client to review only single pages are shown. This is going to confuse matters for my client. Any suggestions as to how to solve this problem?

Send them a PDF showing spreads instead of using Creative Cloud previews. They are pretty lame. (They also currently don't show previews for InDesign CC 2014 files.)

We've an article that provides the following troubleshooting steps that may help stabilize your iPhone.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
