BT Connection - New Line, New House

Good Afternoon,
So, I have a new house which is just being finished and therefore have an appointment with a BT engineer to come and connect me up.
I asked the nice call centre lady what/how much the BT engineer will do when he arrives: such as where he would connect to, what he would install and how it would fit in with my phone circuit. She said she didnt know and I would have to speak to the engineer when he arrives,
however I can see whats going to happen. He will arrive and my cabling side of things wont be where he wants it or convenient or easy to connect into. so my question, is how far and what do they do. I have two phone sockets in my house and plenty of cabling between the two, the excess of which is currently coiled up in the attic and could be pulled through (although it may take me a bit of time to thread it down the trusses).
all the houses around us have overhead wiring, so I assume we may have the same with a wire being connected to the porch/corner of the house nearest the pole. however without having an idea of what they do or connect up, im a bit lost.

No, its sort of a self-build with me employing a builder to manage it. my electrician has put in two phone points and left the cable coiled in the roof,
I have phoned BT again and told I have to wait for the engineer to arrive in 3 weeks time and ask them. looking at other posts on this forum fills me with no confidence that the engineer will be able to connect, but as no-one can tell me what I need to have prepared Im pretty sure there will be some problem and I will be told what I should of done or got the electrician to do, and will have further delays.

+You may have already done this, but do you have the first AirPort Express configured to "Allow this network to be extended"?+
Could not find that setting anywhere.
It's in AirPort Utility, AirPort panel, Wireless tab.
When I'm within the range of the base station I connect normally, but further away the connection drops despite the fact that the other Airport is very close and light is green. Interestingly, my PB Pro has signal almost everywhere in the house, but my iPhone and Mac Mini don't. Most likely just a hardware difference?
In AirPort Utility with the second Express, in the AirPort panel, Wireless tab, have you checked "Allow wireless clients"?
The second AP does show an IP address: 10.0.1.3.
With a "Configure IPv4" setting of "Using DHCP", that suggests that the second Express really is connecting to the first Express. In that case I have no other explanation of your your problem.

  • Connection speed new house

I moved into my new house on the 1st of this month from only 4 houes away down the road wherei was getting about 12mbp/s speed.
Soon as i moved here i was getting 10 then went down to 2mbs. I contacted them last week and said seemed unstable but seems ok now so removed a 2mb block i found they put on. i think the unstability may have been me turning router in and of few times...

  • New house need phone line

i have just moved into a house and there is a bt box but when i plug a phone in there is nothing.
the previous owners had virgin tv but stipulated that a bt phone line was connected to the house.  I ideally would like to get phone and broadband from o2.
What charges would i incur for activating this line?  also would i then have to pay line rental to bt as well as monthly payments to 02 for their service?
    thanks

The standard charge for re-connecting a line is the same as for installing a new one - £127.99. There are discounts available, but only if you sign up for BT services.

  • New housing development

Hi does anyone know which BT number I have to dial to request phone lines to be put in to a new housing estate in Scholar Green ST7? Tried the usual moving house number but they only seem interested in quoting me for a package whereas I'm only interested in getting the estate connected at the moment. Thanks.

    Hi flubst1cle,
The housing estate developer can arrange this with your local Openreach new sites office Here. If you want to order an individual line then you will need to speak with customer services.
    Thanks

  • New House - Long Wait

I recently moved house and as such expected some downtime in BB as it says on the web. BT got 5 day warning (the best we could give them) but we were told it would be at least 16 days before they could do anything...
The reason, because its a newly build house... We moved last friday 21st and BT arnt coming out until either 11th or 16th cant remember atm. Thats minimum 3 weeks w/o internet or phoneline.
With the way these new houses are built they're more or less ready to go, guy from local TV/Aerial place (only a small company) was out within an hour of contacting and took him an hour to set up an aerial, sort all the stuff in the loft and program freeview through the entire house etc.
But anyway, why does it take at least 16 days (or my case 3 weeks) for BT to come out and sort the phone line and Broadband? Is it lazyness? Bull**** bureaucracy? Or is there a valid reason?
Another thing OT really but this usb dongle im using for internet atm shows me my usage for current session/today/week/month/previous month etc. Why cant the HH do that?
Just checked their BB checking thing, my address is up there and it says I can get up to 4.5Mbps so surely more or less everything is ready to go otherwise it would have no results?

but none that monitor pure up/downloads from all connected sources. the "just download one" statement is something the mods say but time again they dont work how people want them to (ie consoles, phones etc). The homehub can clearly track the current usage as it tells you in the router settings, would it be so hard for them to add a log of usage as part of the hub settings?
The other monitors dont work because they don't monitor at the source, the router. So you're point is redundant for me

  • The time-wasting/money-sucking mess that is Comcast service at new house

Add me to the ranks of the unhappy comcast customers. I moved into a new house a month ago. I got Xfinity Home, Internet, and TV installed. The internet and TV did not work reliably - in fact they reliably did not work for most of that time, so I spent most of my free time calling, troubleshooting, having comcast people out to my  house multiple times.  After about 3 weeks of that I think my internet and tv are working more reliably. Now I have the time to turn my attention to XFinity Home Security, WHICH HAS NOT WORKED FOR ONE DAY.  I wont' go into all of the many ways it's not reliable, but it's not reliable.  and in fact I've never been able to actually set the alarm on my house.  I don't even know what's wrong with it AND I'VE SPENT ALL MY FREE TIME GETTING COMCAST TO FIX INTERNET AND TV AND DON'T HAVE ANY MORE TIME TO TROUBLESHOOT HOME SECURITY. here's the kicker: I spent all afternoon calling comcast, the first two people I got were helpful, or trying to be helpful - my main question is why I owe over $700 to comcast for one month of service.  Apparently $500+ of that is installation of the HOME SECURITY SYSTEM THAT DOESN'T WORK.  Also: I don't have that broken out anywhere I can see it. Anyway, the first two calls: the first one 20-30 minutes, the second one about 20-30 minutes I was put on hold while the person tried to figure it out and both times I was disconnected and they never called me back! the third time I got a guy saying I'm "way past my 30 day deadline" (I'm 5 days past it, thanks for exaggerating) when I got so fed up with why I have to pay so much money for somethign that has never worked adn I want it to go away.  He said if I want to cancel home security now it will cost another $660 to break the contract.  Break the contract?  I'm still waiting for Comcast to actually provide the service they contracted for.  How am I breaking my contract?  Not comcast? so...it will cost me over $1,100 to install and then remove and "break my contract" for a home security system that has never worked. and also: i get to go into comcast "customer service" land to try to do any of this.  Which means I will get disconnected and waste a bunch more time again. And since the comcast guys that installed my servie to my home actually cut the AT&T phone wires, i now can't just cancel comcast and get AT&T without another headache on my hands because comcast cut the AT&T cables that go into my house!!! all this, and I owe $738 that is due in 4 days!  I think the only thing Comcast worries about are accounts payable.  I don't think I've ever wasted this much time for nothing and been this angry and dissapointed with a service provider. there...all that venting and I'm still in the same place, which is nowhere.  Now that I think about it, the fact that comcast cut the telephone cables going into my house really takes the cake for me.

Typically the phone line is just disconnected in the phone compay's box on the outside of your house (it's called the NID). In some cases the tech may not be able to access the NID so they may physically cut the phone company's feed. It's a technical requirement because landlines carry voltage which interferes with the operation of VOIP phone systems. You would need to do the same thing with Vonage or other whole house VOIP systems.
Edit: I see someone already escalated your issue to corporate, so you should be hearing from someone at Comcast soon.

They said I need to change my settings to NAT settings. I haven't been able to figure out or find anything. I have also spoken to Apple Support on the phone for hours without being able to figure out how to do this ( i don't think he knew much either lol.) Please help me because I've got about 15-20 devices in my house that require to be connected to the internet and this is just making things ridiculously slow and painful for me.
    Thanks!

It is on DHCP & NAT under router mode yet my isp is still the one issuing ip addresses to my devices instead of the router issuing them

  • Time capsule not working properly after moving to a new house

    Hello,
I have a macbook pro and a refurbished time capsule 2tb. I purchased both in 2013 and the time capsule at that time was used as both a wireless router for our house and my back up.I recently moved and didn't have access to the time capsule for over a month. Once I settled into the new house I plugged the power cable and internet connection into the time capsule and assumed that automatically it would keep working. It appears that it is backing up my system as I can pull up the application and see appropriate in-time documents however it consistently has a slow orange light blinking. I am not currently using it as a router as we have xfinity and have a different router for the house and when I try to use the time machine instead it cannot connect.
My internet connection is fine and I would like to leave it as is. It also appears the back up function is working for my mac. The question is, does the orange blinking light matter and or is it indicating that I am improperly using the machine? It it because the ethernet cable is attached and can the time capsule work without this?
I have tried resetting the capsule with the 10seconds hold on the reset button etc as seen on other posts but the orange light remains.
    Thoughts?
Thank you for your time and assistance,
    ahahn063

The question is, does the orange blinking light matter and or is it indicating that I am improperly using the machine?
The amber light is like the "Check Engine" light in your car. It blinks for a reason......the Time Capsule has a message for you.
That message might be that there is a firmware update available for the Time Capsule that needs to be installed....or....that AirPort Utility has detected that the Time Capsule is not configured correctly to work with the Xfinity router that you are now using.
To see the message.....open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click on the amber dot
Then look for a Status setting, and click on the small amber dot there
A message will appear to tell you why the Time Capsule is whining, along with a suggested action to fix the issue.
If you are still having difficult, we for you to post back with the exact message that you see.

  • Problem after moving to new house

I previously had no problem with wireless Airport Express connected via cable modem.
Now I've moved to a new house and cannot get it to work. Same Internet Service Provider. The green light on AX is on. Internet Connect utility says I am connected to AX, and that AX is connected to the internet via ethernet (?). My MacBook recognizes the AX name and says it's connected wirelessly. But then I open Safari and cannot connect to the internet.
I've reset AX by pressing the little reset button, and also reset it through Airport Utility. No luck.
Finally, my wireless connection works fine through a neighbor's system.
The only thing I know of left to try is connecting via an ethernet cable, which I don't have now.

Oh, and I can use AX to play music wirelessly just fine.

  • Moving to new House

I am moving into a new house. I have been a ATT customer for over 7 years now and have all the equipment needed at my new house. Why do I have to wait two weeks to activate the account? Everything is plugged in and ready to roll it's just active on the ATT side and they won't activate until a rep comes out to the house.

They need to check the condition of the wiring, run a direct cable from the outside terminal to the location of the AT&T router, wire your connection at the VRAD to your house, check the speed at the house, then connect everything and test for proper operation.

What signal is it picking up? Are you joining wireless network? If so don't.. it is really poor way to run things.
Is it connected to a cable modem? Full router or just a modem type?
    Try a reset?
Plug in via ethernet.. turn off everything.. wait 5min then restart cable modem.. if that doesn't work, give it a longer off cycle.. 15min or overnight.

  • Broadband speed - new house

    I hoping someone can help.
We moved into a new build house last September. As will all new houses, it has a XNTE box rather than a NTE5 master socket. The XNTE is connect to 3 telephone points.
We had a issue with the broadband, and a BT engineer came out to look into this. He mentioned the wrong face place was used on a socket (the face place has telephone points, TV points etc). He said two cable were fitted into one socket (to act as an extension), rather than just one cable.
To cut a long story short, he disconnected the other sockets, and the broadband speed improved from 6mb to 10mb. The electrician came around today, and connected the other sockets back. This cut the speed back down to 6mb.
My question is, should having two other sockets connected to the telephone system cause the speed to drop by half? No phones are connected to the other sockets.
I look forward to all the help!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

they will do if incorrectly wired as the Openreach engineer removed them why were they reconnected again by the electrician

  • How do I move my AirPort Extreme time capsule from my old house to my new house without losing the backups?

I have an AirPort Extreme Time Capsule wifi router and I just moved to a new house and I need to relocate the device without losing any of my old backups from my old mac as well as my new Mac! I could really use some advice on how to do it without any problems! I really appreciate it!

Physical location has no bearing on anything, since you're also moving your network and all other devices. Just plug everything in and it should work just as it did before.
