Bt deny obvious restriction.

In the last 3 months, bt have begun to severely limit the download speed available on my phone line according to the fair use policy despite my package being unlimited. Going over the download limit really is unavoidable, and living in Scotland, I cannot receive a better package such as Infinity which I might add, offers greater speeds and a higher download limit for the same price I am paying now.
Having this restriction, although a quite a hassle, taking up at least 2 hours of my own time on the phone, were all removed within 2 hours of my initial phone call. Easy enough.
This month, last week, the same thing happened again, however, this time matters are a bit more complicated.
My download speed and IP profile has been changed from my usual 5.5mbs to 0.25mbs- contrary to their own email which stated it would only be limited to 1mb at peak time, which happened to me on previous occasions.
I phoned up and bt acknowledged the restriction but explained that an investigation needed to be carried out before they could restore my speed. This was to take 4 days. After 4 days, I phoned up and was told the restriction was removed, but I experienced no change.
I phoned again, and an engineer was sent out to replace my master socket and test my general household internet wiring. He did so, but no difference could be seen.
I was then told that it was an issue with the IP profile and that it would take 3 days, 72 hours to fix. It has been 80 hours and still I have experienced no change.
I have phoned again, but bt just want to send out an engineer in 3 days to confirm the issue, and they despite all evidence taken from bt speedtester, deny they are still restricting the connection and insist that no action can be taken until the issue has been 'confirmed'. The problem is not at my end, nothing has been changed here, the problem completely lies with bt, even their own website, and o2 who take their information from bt say my line as it is can only support 256kb. That's all the confirmation needed.
It has been well over a week and I have run out of ideas. I fear since my IP profile has been changed, changing my isp will not help.

That'll be the Home Office wiretap.
Sorry, couldn't resist
The biggest problem with BT is that they don't seem to keep very good records, and aren't very good at sharing information between departments, so it may be that you are indeed still restricted, but it's just not showing up in the records of whomever you're talking to.
I recently experienced something like that, when I booked an engineer to check my line, but when I called back the next day to confirm, I was told no appointment had been booked, so they booked it again for another day. However, the engineer did in fact turn up for the original appointment (luckily I wasn't out at the time). I'm not sure if this is a "human error" problem, or if BT's CRM is just garbage, but either way it's happened to me several times.
Are you calling 0800 800 150 or 0800 111 4567? I always seem to get better results from the former, especially if I use the "* 0" trick to get straight through to a real person.

  • E3000 Deny Access Restrictions not releasing

    I've just recently purchased a Cisco E3000 router.
    I've set up 3 Access Restriction - Deny policies using IP addresses.  Unless someone has a better idea I found I needed two policies to Deny from late at night (say 10.00pm) till first thing the next morning.  As this spans two days I needed a Deny policy from 10pm till midnight, and another for the next day from midnight till say 7.00am.
    Now to my problem, the laptops get 'Deny'ed exactly as they should within a few minutes of the set time, problem is they do not reconnect the next morning after the Deny time has passed.
    Cisco help wasn't any help, and wanted me to use Cisco Connect.  However the overly simplistic options it provides are next to useless for me.   The web option has more flexibility, if only it'd work.
    Do I need to need to force an Allow to override the Deny but establishing a fifth policy just for this purpose?  Don't know if this'll work but I've got no other ideas.
    All help greatly appreciated

    Anyhow, I'll answer my own question based on one nights experience.
    Made the 5th (and last, don't know why all the reviews say you can have 10 policies, there are only 5) an Allow policy for the previously restricted IP addresses with the parameters of Allow everyday for 24 hours.
    Last night the Deny policies as the first in the list worked correctly and the two restricted laptops had access back again at the set time.  So on a test of one night it's all working correctly.
    The trick was the inclusion of a universal Allow policy as the last policy to force a release of the Deny policies.  I'll post again if it doesn't work at some point in the future.

  • HELP - Cannot Restore Shadow Copies - Access Denied - Security Restrictions?

    Server 2008 environment. Attempting to restore from shadow copy. Attempts to do so while logged in as enterprise administrator returns error:

    Any ideas how to get these files back from shadow copies? Can't tell who the original owner was as security tabs display owner as "Unable to display current owner." Need these files back and can't figure out how to set permissions to do so!
    Any ideas or help out there?

    Hi Russ Foszcz,
    The files you attempted to restore from shadow copy are stored on a local disk or an external disk? If it is an external disk, please refer to the article below to troubleshoot "Media is Write Protected" error:
    You may see "Media is Write Protected" Error or VDS error 80070013 after bringing SAN disk online via Diskpart in Windows Server 2008

    If it is a local disk, please try the steps below:
    1 Open CMD
    2 Input diskpart and press Enter
    3 Select volume=E (Volume E: for example)
    4 Input attributes volume to check if the volume is specified read-only attribute
    5 If the volume is read-only, input attributes volume clear read-only to clears the read-only attribute

  • Access restrictions w/ WRT54G Ver 8 (Firmware 8.0.5).......

    It seems that Access Restrictions are a bit of a problem w/ the Linksys routers. Well, here's my story to go with the crowd. Hopefully, someone at Linksys / Cisco can provide a solution.
    I am wanting to set up access restrictions on my Linksys WRT54G Ver. 8 (Firmware 8.0.5). Following the "instructions", I built my access restrictions as follows:
    Policy 1
    Enabled
    Named for my PC
    Edited List of PC's - inserted my NIC MAC address and saved the settings
    Set to "Allow" Internet Access
    Everyday
    24 Hrs per day
    Saved Settings
    Policy 2
    Enabled
    Named for my daughters laptop
    Edited List of PC's - inserted her Wireless NIC MAC address and saved the settings
    Set to "Allow" Internet Access
    Sun - Thur: 07:00 AM - 09:30 PM
    Fri - Sat: 07:00 AM - 10:00 PM
    Saved Settings
    Policy 3
    Enabled Named for my wife's desktop
    Edited List of PC's - inserted her NIC MAC address and saved the settings
    Set to "Allow" Internet Access
    Sun - Sat: 06:00 AM - 11:00 PM
    Saved Settings
    ....then, I reset the router. Once up, I tried access from each PC...nothing. Couldn't get out.
    Thus, I went back into the Linksys set up, disabled the access restrictions. Viola ! I'm back on-line with all three PC's.
    Checked around the forum and found that some people had built a primary policy that included all of their PC MAC's or IP addresses and was "Enabled" and set to "Deny" Internet access 24/7. From there, they built out their access restrictions and, supposedly, they worked.
    I tried that as well...deleted all the access restrictions. Reset the router and went through the entire router setup to be on the safe side. Built the primary "Deny" access restriction then my other three PC restrictions. And....it still didn't work.
    Thus, I would really like to get this working so I can limit my daughters access. It's interfering with her school work so I want to lock her down a little bit. Friends are important to her but I've stressed that her education is even more important.
     Thus, if Linksys themselves or someone on the forums can provide an answer, excellent ! If not, I'll look into another router that can do the job. I'd rather not do that, but if the Linksys won't perform this function, I'll have to. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

    Thanks for the reply. I deleted all profiles and built just the two specific for my daughters laptop and one for my wife's PC. My wife's PC is running XP SP3. It follows the access restriction policy with no problems. My daughters laptop is running Vista Home Premium. With the policies active, her connectivity was sporadic for about an hour before it just finally shut off her connectivity completely...well before the policy was supposed to.
    Thus, I'm now thinking that thismay be a Vista problem to an extent as well(Gee....who would have thought that !?!?!?!?).
    I disabled the IP 6 protocol just as a precaution. Still no access. And when I disable the policies on the Linksys, she's back in service.
    Any further suggestions are appreciated.

  • Daemons for hosts.allow and hosts.deny?

    I want to use hosts.allow and hosts.deny to restrict access to my servers, but I'm not sure what daemons to use in the config files for services like remote desktop or server admin. Is there any way to specify those services? Can you do it with port numbers instead of service names (man 5 hosts_access wasn't very clear to me).
    For services like http and ssh, its a no-brainer, but I can't figure out the Apple specific stuff.
    Thanks,
    Miles

    If you are referring to the python script, "denyhosts" that works in conjunction with xinetd, this simply works under 10.3.x, I've used it once successfully. It needs to be configured correctly, but it does work. Did not try it with 10.4, but...

  • Share CUPS-PDF trough SAMBA

    Hello
    I am having trouble making a working installation of CUPS-PDF to be shared through SAMBA. Windows XP can't find the shared printers, the archbox can find it's own printer shares but can not use cups-pdf through SAMBA because of "Idle - Tree connect failed (NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED)".

    # This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the

    # many!) most of which are not shown in this example
    # For a step to step guide on installing, configuring and using samba,
    # read the Samba-HOWTO-Collection. This may be obtained from:
    # http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.pdf
    # Many working examples of smb.conf files can be found in the
    # Samba-Guide which is generated daily and can be downloaded from:
    # http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-Guide.pdf
    # Any line which starts with a ; (semi-colon) or a # (hash)
    # is a comment and is ignored. In this example we will use a #
    # for commentry and a ; for parts of the config file that you
    # may wish to enable
    # NOTE: Whenever you modify this file you should run the command "testparm"
    # to check that you have not made any basic syntactic errors.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi Everyone!
    This pdf printer has been GREAT!
    But I did have to make one little tweak before it was good for me.
    The default PDF version of 1.4 produced an output file in which text would collide and overlap. Patching the build for PDF version 1.2 fixed it for me.
    Here's the amended PKGBUILD:
    pkgname=cups-pdf
    pkgver=1.7.0
    pkgrel=3
    pkgdesc="CUPS PDF Backend"
    depends=('cups')
    url="http://cip.physik.uni-wuerzburg.de/~vrbehr/cups-pdf/"
    source=(http://cip.physik.uni-wuerzburg.de/~vrbehr/cups-pdf/cups-pdf_$pkgver.tar.gz)
    md5sums=('875ed70ec1acdab9d935bca45ee521f8')
    build() {
    cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver
    cat src/cups-pdf.h | sed "s|CPPDFVER "1.4"|CPPDFVER "1.2"|" > tmpFile
    mv tmpFile src/cups-pdf.h
    gcc -O9 -s -o cups-pdf -Isrc src/cups-pdf.c
    install -D -m 755 cups-pdf $startdir/pkg/usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf
    install -D -m 644 extra/PostscriptColor.ppd.gz $startdir/pkg/usr/share/cups/model/Postscript.Color.ppd.gz
    p.s. I know posting PKGBUILD source to the forum is somewhat of a no no
    (sorry sarah31, and thank you for everything!)
    It just seemed like a good idea to correct this for the archive searchers.

  • [SOLVED] Running cupsd without root permission.

    Hello,
    This is a newbie question about running the CUPS daemon as a regular user.
    The Arch Wiki page on CUPS said to "start the cups ... daemon" but did not say how.
    I searched the web and found that you can start it as a root user with the following command:
    # cupsd
    At this point, I can setup a printer, and everythings prints properly. However, I have to restart cupsd each time I reboot. Being a root only command, I can't add it to my startup script.
    What do I do?
    Here are some more details:
    I installed 64 bit arch a few days ago.
    I'm not using a desktop environment, just openbox window manager. The startup script I am using is the openbox-session autostart script.
    If I run the command "cupsd" as a regular user, I get bash: /usr/bin/cupsd: Permission denied. This is how I know it will not work. This rules out a typo in the startup script.
    Here is a list of all the steps/commands used to install cups:
    Turn printer on
    $ su
    enter root password
    # pacman -S cups
    # pacman -S cups-filters
    # pacman -S ghostscript
    # pacman -S gsfonts
    # pacman -S gutenprint
    # cupsd
    # exit
    $ firefox -new-window http://localhost:631
    Adding Printers and Classes
    Add Printer
    Login as root with the root password
    Select the local printer detected
    Default Name, Description, Location
    Select the model: Canon PIXMA MP510
    Default options
    Printed a test page.
    Got excited.
    Spent 4 hours trying to run cupsd in a startup script.
    I tried to add my regular user to the lp group.
    $ su
    enter root password
    # gpasswd -a michael lp
    $ exit
    $ groups michael
    confirmed that I'm added to lp
    $ cupsd
    I tried to chmod /usr/bin/cupsd, but got a weird error message "Child exited on signal 15". I used pacman to uninstall then reinstall cups undo this attempt.
    $ su
    enter root password
    # chmod a+rwx /usr/bin/cupsd
    # exit
    $ cupsd
    Some sites said to edit /etc/cups/cupsd.conf and comment out some lines. However, none of the lines mentioned exist in my /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file. I tried to comment out a few that looked close, but no success. I ended up commenting out everything and still no success. I used pacman to uninstall then reinstall cups undo this attempt, returning /etc/cups/cupsd.conf to it's original condition. Here is the file:

    Well, the problem is now resolved. After using my wife's printer for 1.5 months I finally had the time to try it again. I got it working. I entered a lot of different commands, but the following is what finally did the trick. The ideas came from ThomasR on another forum post: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=35567
    <code>
    # killall cupsd
    # groupadd printadmin
    # usermod -aG printadmin myusername
    # nano /etc/cups/cupsd.conf
    Add the following to the bottom of the file and save:
       SystemGroup printadmin
    # cupsd
    Add the printer using the web-based administration interface (in the web browser, go to URL http://localhost:631)
    </code>
    I looks like the lp group stuff that I entered in my first post was a few commands short of being effective. The printadmin group commands worked wonderfully. After rebooting the computer the change stuck, so I never had to restart the cups daemon each time I rebooted the computer.
    I don't know what way is better to start the cups daemon, cupsd or systemctl.
    <code>
    # cupsd
    vs.
    # systemctl enable cups.service
    # systemctl start cups.service
    </code>

  • CUPS - can't seem to print more than one page

    Most of the time, it actually doesn't print anything. There's nothing in the error log. The job simply graduates to finished state without printing. Or some times, if I'm lucky, it'll print the first page, and graduate the job to finish state.

  • SAP HANA modelling Standalone

    Hello Experts,
    We are in the process of HANA Standalone implementation and design studio as reporting tool. When I am modeling, I did not figure out answers to some of the below questions .Below are the questions. Experts, please help.
    Best way of modeling: The SAP HANA LIVE is completely built on calculation view; there are no Attribute and Analytical views. I have got different answer why there is only Calculation view and there are no Alaytic view and Attribute views. We are in SP7 latest version. This is a brand new HANA in top of non-SAP (DB2 source).  What is the best way to model this scenario, meaning, can we model everything in the Calculation view’s like SAP HANA live or do you suggest using the standard attribute, analytical and calculation views to do the data model. Is SAP moving away from AV & AT to only calculation Views to simply the modeling approach?
    Reporting: We are using the design studio as front end tool. Just for example, if we assume that we are
    Using the BW, we bring all the data in to BW from different sources, build the cubes and use the bex query. Here in bex query we will be using the restricted key figures, calculated key figures calculations etc. From the reporting wise, we have the same requirements, calculations, RKF, CKF,Sum, Avg etc. if we are Using the design studio on top of standalone HANA, where do I need to implement all these calculations? Is it in different views?  (From reporting perspective, if it’s BW system, I would have done all the calculations in BEx.)
    Universe: If we are doing all the calculations in SAP HANA like RKF. CKF and other calculations , what is the point in having additional layer of universe , because the reporting compnets cam access the queries directly on views .In one of our POC , we found that the using universe affect performance.
    Real time reporting: Our overall objective is to give a real time or close to real time reporting requirements, how data services can help, meaning I can schedule the data loads every 3 or 5 min to pull the data from source. If I am using the Data services, how soon I can get the data in HANA, I know it depends on the no of records and the transformations in between the systems & network speed. Assuming that I will schele the job every 2 min and it will take another 5 min to process the Data services job , is it fair to say the my information will be available on the BOBJ tools with in 10 min from the creation of the records.
    Are there any new ETL capabilities included in SP7, I see some additional features included in SP7. Is some of the concepts discussed are still valid, because in SP7 we have star join concept.
    Thanks

    >> I haven't read any "official" guidance to move away from typical modeling approach, so I'd say stick with the usual approach- AT, then AV, then CA views. I was told that the reason for different approach with HANA Live was to simplify development for mass production of solutions.
    Reporting: We are using the design studio as front end tool. Just for example, if we assume that we are
    Using the BW, we bring all the data in to BW from different sources, build the cubes and use the bex query. >> I'm not a BW guy, but from a HANA perspective - implement them where they make the most sense. In some cases, this is obvious - restricted columns are only available in Analytic Views. Hard to provide more complex advice here - it depends on your scenario(s). Review your training materials, review SCN posts and you should start to develop a better idea of where to model particular requirements. (Most of the time in typical BI scenarios, requirements map nicely to straightforward modeling approaches such as Attribute/Analytic/Calculations Views. However, some situations such as slowly-changing dimensions, certain kinds of calculations (i.e. calc before aggregation with BODS as source - where calculation should be done in ETL logic) etc can be more complex. If you have specific scenarios that you're unsure about, post them here on SCN.
    Universe: If we are doing all the calculations in SAP HANA like RKF. CKF and other calculations , what is the point in having additional layer of universe , because the reporting compnets cam access the queries directly on views .In one of our POC , we found that the using universe affect performance.
    >>> Depends on what you're doing. Universe generates SQL just like front-end tools, so bad performance implies bad modeling. Generally speaking - universes *can* create more autonomous reporting architecture. But if your scenario doesn't require it - then by all means, avoid the additional layer if there's no added value.
    Real time reporting: Our overall objective is to give a real time or close to real time reporting requirements, how data services can help, meaning I can schedule the data loads every 3 or 5 min to pull the data from source. >>> Not exactly sure what your question here is. Your limits on BODS are the same as with any other target system - doesn't depend on HANA. The second the record(s) are committed to HANA, they are available. They may be in delta storage, but they're available. You just need to work out how often to schedule BODS - and if your jobs are taking 5 minutes to run, but you're scheduling executions every 2 minutes, you're going to run into problems...

    It works now.  I'm not 100% sure what fixed it, but my guess is that it was blacklisting usblp
    Here are the steps.
    delete the printer using cups if it is already installed (this is what I didn't do at first, and what caused me to waste a couple hours screwing with other config files).
    open /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf and add this line to it: blacklist usblp
    reboot.
    add the printer using CUPS  (this time "Local Printers" showed my Canon MP730 as an option)
    Cheers,

  • [SOLVED] Printer not showing up in print options but working (CUPS)

    I am using Lexmark X1270 and have got it working via CUPS web interface (printed test page and all), but even after restarting CUPS daemon and rebooting, it does not show up in File > Print in any apps like Firefox, Openoffice, etc. All I see in the print is "Print to file," no printer shows up.

  • What is the maximum size limit for a KM document to be uploaded?

    Hi,
    1.  I have a requirement, wherein the user wants to upload a document which is more than 448MB in KM.
    I am not sure what is the maximum limit that standard SAP provides by default, which I can advice the user at the first place.
    2. what if we want to increase the max limit of the size?Where do we do that, can you suggest me the path for the same?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    DK

    Hello,
    CM Repository in DB Mode:
    If there is a large number of write requests in your CM usage scenario, set up the CM repository in database mode. Since all documents are stored in the database, this avoids unintentional
    external manipulation of the data.
    CM Repository in FSDB Mode:
    In this mode, the file system is predominant. If files are removed from or added to the file system, the database is updated automatically.
    If you mainly have read requests, choose a mode in which content is stored in the file system. If this is the case, make sure that access to the relevant part of the file system is denied or
    restricted to other applications.
    What is the maximum size of the document that we can upload in a CM (DB) and CM (FSDB) without compromising the performance ?
    There are the following restrictions for the databases used:
    ·  Maximum number of resources (folders, documents) in a repository instance
       FSDB: No restriction (possibly limited by file system restrictions)
       DBFS and DB: 2,147,483,648
    ·  Maximum size of an individual resource:
       FSDB: No restriction (possibly limited by file system restrictions)
       DBFS: 8 exabytes (MS SQL Server 2000), 2 GB (Oracle)
       DB: 2 GB
    Maximum length of large property values (string type):2,147,583,647 byte
    What is the impact on the performance of Knowledge Management Platform and on Portal Platform when there are large number of documents that are in sizes somewhere from 100 MB to 500 MB or more.
    The performance of the KM and Portal platform is dependent on the type of activity the user is trying to perform. That is a heavy number of retrievals of the large documents stored in the repository for
    read/write mode decreases the performance of the patform. Searching and indexing in the documents will also take a propertionate amount of time.
    For details, please refer to,
    http://help.sap.com, Goto "KM Platform" and then,
    Knowledge Management Platform   > Administration Guide
    System Administration   > System Configuration
    Content Management Configuration   > Repositories and Repository
    Managers    > Internal Repositories   > CM Repository Manager
    Technically speaking the VM has a restriction according to plattform.  W2k is somewhere around 1,2G and Solaris, I believe, 4G.
    Say for instance I was on a W2k box I allotted 500+ for my J2EE Engine that would leave me with the possiblity to upload close to 600mb documents max.
    See if the attached documents (610134, 634689, 552522) can provide you some guidance for setting your VM to meet your needs.

  • ECC 6.0 Tree System Landscape distribute on different  geographic site.

    Dear experts, we have a important question.
    In the context of our very important business project,
    we may need to distribute our ECC6.0 "tree system landscape" on different geographic site and in detail:
    DEV system    in Italy
    QAS system    in Italy
    PRD system    in America.
    Besides the obvious restrictions, linked to network reliability and avalability,  there are other constraints ?
    Can be achieved this configuration ?
    You know similar configurations ?
    Give me, please, your  opinions and considerations ?
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi,
    We are having a running landscape of non-unicode system.
    Now, Another Landscape is being used by parent company of Unicode Systems. Now, All data, programs, objects are being configured on the parent company server. So, there is no chance to migrate non-unicode to unicode.
    But, We have to apply all packages developed on Non-unicode system to Unicode System. I have released that request and copied data file and cofile into target developement System (Unicode) then imported on this Server.
    Now, we are facing this problem (Above mentioned.). I think, there must be a solution for it conceptually.

  • OVM Sparc - Can't discover local disks

    Chassis 6000
    10 Blades T4-1B
    Controller LSI logic with 2 local 600gb disks per blade.
    I understand that FC and ISCSI storage generic drivers are a big no at the moment for sparc, I currently have the storages attached to one blade and shared via nfs (a blueprint for tunning nfs in 11.1 would be great also).
    The problem is, I can't even discover the local disk, no raid, so OVM should discover the secondary disk by itself right? Disk is completely cleared as recommended, but OVM still fails to discover anything.
    Help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    The answer is "not yet" with the OVM manager. The currently shipping support for Oracle VM Manager on SPARC systems is only for NFS.
    If you are willing to work via CLI outside Oracle VM Manager, you can add local disks to the guest. You have to expand the VM line in the GUI so you can see the "ID" field, which is the actual name of the domain in the ldoms manager. For example, you may name the guest 'mydomain', but the actual name in 'ldm list' will be a long hex string that is a UUID.  You can use 'ldm add-vdsdev' to define virtual disks, and then 'ldm add-vdisk' to add that disk to a guest.  The other complication is that the domain does not actually exist until you start it from the GUI, so if you stop the guest and later restart it, all "extra" devices not known to OVM Manager won't be there and would have to be added again. The other obvious restriction is that you can not migrate a domain if it has local disks.
    For reference: if you go to the Oracle VM Server for SPARC documentation at Oracle VM for SPARC Documentation  and then select View Library for Release 3.0 at  http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37707_01/index.html
    you will see a page with all the documents for the current release. Pick the "Oracle VM Manager 3.2: Quick Start Guide for Managing Oracle VM Server for SPARC" at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/vm/ovm3-sparc-quick-start-guide-1900072.pdf
    I hope this helps explain the situation.
