BT Desk Top Help Up-Date Message - What's this all...

I have been getting a dialog box appear at the bottom of my display for the past few weeks stating that there is a Desk Top Help up-date available for my Home Hub - click to download up-date. etc.
It's genuine enough as I can access it from my BT Broadband Desktop Help section of the main BT web page.
My point is, as I have just tried again to download it, after 8% of the download it comes up with a dialog that tells me there are 'issues with BT downloading right now' and to try again, later.
Well, I have 'tried again later' for the past three weeks, in the morning and in the evening and everytime it has stopped at the 8% stage.
Anyone know what this is all about? 
Anyone know what the up-date brings to the party?
Anyone find Desk Top Help (DTH) is actually helpfull?  I ask this because every time it pops up telling me there is a problem with either my email accounts or my hub connection, and do I want DTH to assist me in fixing it, it runs through it's procedures but ends by telling me everything is ok and there is nothing wrong! I could have told it that before it started!!
After a few weeks of having this come up when you are right in the middle of something, then being forced to wait whilst it 'does it's thing' only to find nothing was in-fact wrong, becomes extremely annoying.
Do we actually need it?
Any useful tips/points/advice/experiences would be appreciated.

Have a look at my post here and see it it does the trick.
With regards to how useful Desktop Help is, we have reports from literally thousands of customers each month that this fixs problems for them.  Maybe not everyones cup of tea but from what I see it works really well.

  • Desk Top Help Blocked by firewall

    I use comdo firewall and it is blocking the intallation of the desk top help files. 
    Any idea why ? 
    And do I really need it ?
    I connect Wired & wireless. I connect directly to a Master Socket.(MS) I have no internal wires to test. I use no external filters as not needed with MK3 MS. I do not have a phone to test noise on the line. My home is 200m from my cabinet.

    Yep, Its fine to tell me "I told you so " 
    I had to restart my computer. Tried to unistall again and then run CC Cleaner as it left orphan files all over the registery . 
    So next time kick me to make me listen ok

    Hmm. The problem still may be the RAM - Apple buys the RAM it puts in its machines from third-party vendors (usually Hynix) so it could be a RAM problem.
    There are a couple of things that you can do yourself before taking your machine into an Apple Store or an AASP... download and run an application named Rember that will run a RAM test for you - let it run for a couple of hours or even overnight. If it turns out that your RAM is faulty, Rember will let you know. If it is faulty, then you have a couple of options - replace the RAM yourself or (particularly if you're under warranty still) take the machine to an Apple Store or AASP and have them replace the RAM.
    If Rember finds no fault with the RAM, then you'll need to take it into an Apple Store/AASP and get a free diagnosis on the machine. Three beeps do usually indicate faulty RAM, but if it tests good with Rember you likely have another problem - it could be something as simple as the RAM, somehow, not seated correctly or signs of another hardware problem.
    Run Rember first... call back with results.

    This sounds like your Apple ID has not yet been used with the iTunes Store.  Here is an article that I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue.
    Use your Apple ID with the iTunes Store
    Open the latest version of iTunes.
    Choose Store > Sign In.
    Enter your Apple ID and password and click Sign In.
    Click Review when asked to review your information.
    Enter your billing information.

    For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
    The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
    Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Confirming, indexing, creating peak file. What's this all about?

    Althought I'm new to PrPro (see my very first post, it was the that I just started using this app), premiere already ate me that anywhere I go, when it comes to video editing, I am in its belly. But still I want an explanation regarding (again) about this message that's appearing in the status bar: 'conforming ?????.mpg". I don't really understand what's this all about. A little explanation is a lot to me. But what I am concerning about this thing is, it seems to be endless. PrPro had done already on all of my assets, conforming, creating peak files, indexing, but it still keeps on doing it again and again. Is there a problem with my audio/video files?
    During the first time of my use, I didn't mind. I didn't even notice it. But now I started to be concerned with it since I my pc really slows down when PrPro starts this seemingly perpetual activity. If there's a problem somewhere else please help me.

    Did you notice that you make the same mistake as one of our regulars here, the_wine_snob, otherwise known as Bill Hunt, in leaving out one 'a' in my last name? I'm not offended but wonder if that is a human trait to not overdo it and two 'a'-s may be too much?
    I resemble that comment! Harm, you have to realize that I am from Mississippi, and everyone is known as Billy Bob, Joe Bob, or Bubba. We had no Harm Millaards - too many double vowels and consonants for us. At least this helped, when I signed up for a bunch of X-rated sites, as Harm Millard...
    OK, where were we? LameTiger (check that spelling, as I think I got it wrong again and apologize profusely), when one has non-standard footage, three thing need to happen: the files need to be indexed, the Audio must be Conformed (CFA files) and the Waveform Display (PEK) files must be created. Depending on the number of files, their Duration and one's computer's speed this can take from moments, to maybe 20 mins.
    If you have not just loaded up this Project, then gone for a cup of coffee, or tea, I urge you to do so. There is a tiny progress bar in the very lower-right of the GUI, that traces this. Let it happen, and be patient. I know that this sounds like a scene from the Karate Kid, but it's important. Many systems will crash, if one tried to do anything, before this process completes. I can work (albeit slowly), during the process. Many cannot.
    Now, if you HAVE patiently waited this process out, and it has completed, AND the next session yields the exact same thing, then something is not quite right. Could be files getting moved, deleted, or otherwise not available to PrPro, or some setting in one's Scratch Disks, or some other problem.
    Hope that a bit of patience, and a cup of Darjelling helps. Please let us know.

    Sorry to hear that. I understand your frustration and I hope they send back a better working N78-3.
    Myself, I count myself lucky. Everything works perfectly for me right now...email, bluetooth, maps, gps, 3rd party apps, battery life, 3G, wifi, etc. etc.
    The only issue I've been having is the dreaded reboots but I believe that may have to do with 3rd party apps. I recently uninstalled Google Search app from my N78 and since then it hasn't rebooted or shown any issues. This seems odd at first but makes sense if you think about the fact that the Google Search app loads itself into memory and runs in the background at all times.
    I did this this past Tuesday night and so far no reboots, crashes or any problems. I'm sure I just jinxed myself but I've been using it heavily over the last few days with no issues. Prior to this, it would usually reboot every 2 days. If it doesn't reboot for another few days I'll be happy.
    I would normally not stand for this but I just love the phone and if I got something else it'd probably be the iPhone 3G which has perhaps more software bugs and issues than the N78-3!!

    If everything is working OK, I believe it simply means that the iPad and iTunes are communicating and that any changes that you made to the sync configuration are waiting to go through. If you updated apps on the iPad and they get transferred into iTunes or if you download new songs onto the iPad and they are being transferred into iTunes, any app data that moves back and forth - those would be changes that need to be applied.
    If you can't finish the sync and that's why you are asking, can you provide more specific details?

    this conversation has help me, today I had the same pop up scam announcement, I was searching in you tube yahoo and google about this no one apparently had this issue before, first I was going to call the original apple phone number because to me this pop seem awkward but the announcement had the apple name I gave it a try but using the call app phone booth just to see if it was the official apple phone number and if it was not who ever was asking me to call wont get my actual phone number, to my surprise it wasn't apple official phone number because I have called the apple official # and is nothing a like, I hung up all worried and sad with only one option in my mind called the apple support number, then I stop and thought for a minute and one clever thought came to my head that is brain lol, the clever thought was this "let me put this phone number in the web to see if it takes me to the official apple website" so I did it and the first pop up search was this article this conversation of you guys read it and follow the instructions they were very successful fix my issue, thank you so much guys, keep up the great work.

    Looks like the Sim card had a catastrophic failure. Burnout, short somethng like that.
    You can try to take out the tray and reseat the sim card inside and see if that gets it back.
    Also try resetting the phone at least once by holding down the home and power buttons until the Apple Logo shows up.
    If none of this works you'll have to contact your cell carrier to get a new sim card, as it probably fried and is no longer functional.

    I think you should try some generic maintenence:
    Startup from the Recovery Partition, and repair the hard drive and repair permissions with disk utility.
