BT Digital Vault - Deleting Files

Does anyone have any idea how you delete files from the digital vault.   The folders selected in the backup manager are only a gig or so in size, however the files on the internet are around about 3.5 gig.    I do not seem to be able to delete files from the backup manager or the internet.   I think the problem is that the internet is seeing my previous installation of Windows as another computer (I've recently upgraded to Windows 7).

First of all you need to uninstall auto-backup. Then when you re-intall it again it will ask you for the computer name. Select the name of the old computer. You should then be able to delete the old files.
If you want, you can then repeat the process, this time selecting the name of your new computer.
The old computer names remain on Digital Vault, even though their contents are empty.

  • Digital Vault; problems extracting files

I am seeing HTTP error 408 quite frequently; so far, just repeating the file download is sufficient to continue with the process of getting my data out, but I might come across a file that is so large that it never completes a download before abort due to HTTP error 408..
? Any one else seeing this ?
I have flagged this to BT customer help; no reaction so far...

I was about to point you to http://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/Digital-Vault-Closure/m-p/817776/highlight/true#M48041, post number 41 .... but then I noticed a certain similarity in the name.

  • Can't delete files from external hard drive

So here's an interesting problem that I've never run across. I have a Western Digital hard drive plugged in and I was deleting some files off it today when suddenly it started saying that there were some files in use and it couldn't delete those. I hit "Continue" which usually does the trick but it just deleted everything else and left a bunch of folders with these weird empty files in them. So I quit all programs and tried again. Same thing, "Cannot delete, file in use." Tried rebooting both my computer and the external, again "Files in use." Did a google search, followed numerous suggestions, terminal sudo rm -r +file name, a force delete app, secure delete, holding down the option button while deleting... No dice. When I try the sudo rm thing in terminal it tells me that the folder doesn't exist AND that it isn't empty and won't delete it. (I love computers) When I do a right click->Get info on it, it says that I have read-write permissions but that the files are locked but won't let me unlock them (I'm the system administrator). When I look at the files in finder, it says they're actually aliases. What's really weird is that the file names are all messed up and have asian characters and stuff in them. I didn't create these aliases or have files with those characters in them. Soooo... Any suggestions? Cause I've read the threads and tried just about everything. I'm concerned this drive is headed for a crash or maybe just needs to be wiped and then put my stuff back on cause it's gotten errors over time. I don't know, I've never had this happen before and I'm pretty good with computers. If it was a windows computer I'd be doing a scan disk and defrag on it but I don't know how to do that on a mac to an external hard drive. I honestly don't know if this is a hardware or software problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh... well  this is interesting... disk utility is say that it IS formatted MS-DOS (FAT32). Is that what's causing these errors? This thing has been running with my mac beautifully for years. So do I pull my stuff off, wipe it and reformat it for a mac? Or since it is FAT 32 can I hook it up to a windows computer and fix the problem? Since I had the wrong format, I can delete the files but if I don't fix the format this will keep happening?

  • In addition to deleting files, what can I do to speed up my MacBook?

    Hello!
My MacBook Pro (mid-2010 w/ 16gb of memory and 250gb hard drive) has been running really slow. I know I need to delete a ton of files as my internal disk is near full. My questions are:
My system report says the majority of disk space is being taken up by "Other". What can I delete to whittle that down?
How can I use this EtreCheck report to improve my MacBook's performance?

"etrecheck" is of no use for solving this problem.
For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside a photo or iTunes library will corrupt the library. Changes to such a library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install the app in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    For ODS:
    security execute-with-privileges /A*/OmniDiskSweeper.app/*/M*/* 2>&-
    For GP:
    security execute-with-privileges /A*/GrandPerspective.app/*/M*/* 2>&-
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password.
The application window will open behind other open windows. When you scan a volume, the window will eventually show all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Deleting files from hard drive

How can I delete files without Finder asking for my digital ID? This is annoying

I thought that was it so I checked. I had downloaded some white papers off the Internet, but I copied some files into a folder on the hard drive that I created and it still asked for my password.  However I have an external drive and it does not ask me for a passward to delete a file on my external drive.

  • Digital Vault / Auto Backup - How to upload a dire...

    Hi there,
Can you use auto backup to backup a directory structure that is not held within one of the options under 'we suggest'?
I want to backup a directory that has 2 layers of sub directories that is on another drive on my computer, I tried going via 'you pick' with everything unticked on 'we suggest' but, although I could navigate to my other drives, I could only select files and not directories which is no use to me as it would take far, far to much time to select all the files in each sub directory (over a decades worth of family photos)
I do not want to move it over to my documents or pictures folder as I want to keep it all on a seperate hard drive.
I cannot see a way to upload directories using the digital vault web uploader either otherwise I would do it manually.
Thank you for any assistance :-)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yes you can, I do it.
Forget "we suggest" and use your own selection.
Navigate to the parent folder, and simply tick the box. Everything in the parent and subdirectories will be backed up.
If you only want certain subdirectiories, then you click the "+" option, and the directory treee will be displayed.
You can then select whichever subdirectories you want.
You can backup from any "fixed" drive, but not network drives.

I'm looking to delete files from my cRIO 9014 using the FTP utilities. There is no "Delete" VIs in the FTP pannelet in LV 2012.  I found this previous post from 2009 which points me to a path for the VI.  There is nothing there for 2012, but I do have it for 2011.
When I try to use the LV 2011 VIs, it can't find one of the subVIs (see attached pic), NI_InternetTK_FTP_VIs.lvlib.  Why are the FTP libraries and the this NI_InternetTK_FTP_VIs.lvlib not included in LV2012.

  • Digital Imaging missing files

I cannot use scan functions on my Windows 7(64) PC .  I have used the Print and Scan Doctor and have downloaded, installed and unistalled many times the newest drivers.  The uninstall/install hangs up because a file (or more) is corrupted or missing.  The last message referred to C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpotradd.dll.  I think I need to install Digital Imaging to replace or repair the missing files and simply trying to install the newest drivers doesn't work.  Is there an ability to download and install just Digital Imaging?  I have the printer installed on a local network and the printer functions work fine on my Windows 7 (64) laptop.

    Hi @Literal1
I would like to help you with your Digital imaging. The best think to do is perform a complete comprehensive uninstall and reinstall of the full feature software and driver.
Hold down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box, type %temp%
Delete all files and folders from the temp folder. Choose skip if any pop ups appear saying any of the files could not be deleted

  • Recovering deleted files in Aperture...

    Hello,
I've accidentally deleted my "In The Last Week" Library folder. This is causing major problems and I can't seem to find a way to recover the files.
Can anyone help me with this situation? I've tried a recovery software but only low-res images are recovered. I need the RAW files.
    Thanks,
    Felix.

Look for a directory called "Aperture Vault Deleted Images" look in your trash can, it took me some digging but I found them. Also, do you have Time Machine turned on, it save your Aperture Library. Right click on it and "Show Package Contents" look inside you will find your files, it just takes some digging. When you import files do you put your files in Aperture or leave them where there are on your drive?
    Good Luck!

  • After deleting files, I still have no disk space

I had completely clogged my Mac HD with video files, so it was no wonder I had 0kb disc space left. But after I moved them to an external drive, finder is still saying there is no disc space. I have tried the following:
    1. first moved around 11 GB of video files/iMovie and Premiere project files from the Movies folder to my external hard drive
    2. restarted and shut down the computer several times. I expected to get a message having to do with File Vault so I could free up space that way, but no such message appeared and the computer just restarted or turned itself off each time.
    3. Emptied the trash, which seems to have freed 440MB.
    4. Ran the periodic daily, weekly, monthly system routines in terminal
    5. In Disk Utility, Erased free space
    6. In Disk Utility, verified disk
    7. In Disk Utility, verified file permissions.
I don't know what else to do! I expected moving the video files to free up the disk space and Finder still says I have none. Help?

    Hello,
A Sparse image is a type of disk image file that can be created under Mac OS X using Disk Utility. Encrypted sparse image files are used to secure a user's home directory by Mac OS X's FileVault feature. So if you use File Vault, you need that file.
Also, if you know the names of the video files, do a Search in Spotlight to see if there are any on the drive that Disk X might now have found. If you aren't sure of the file names, you could try .mov
It depends on the software you used to create those video files with to start with.
The light just went on over my head. If you used the apple+delete shortcut to delete the files from their original location after moving them to the external drive, that doesn't send them to the Trash in software such as iMovie. Launch iMovie. Go to File/Empty Trash. Anytime you delete files using iMovie, you have to delete them while using that application within that application. When you delete files in iMovie, it doesn't send those files to the Trash in the Dock, but in it's own app... just a temp memory cache if you will.

  • Vault Deleted Images?

    Greetings,
Is it safe to delete the folder Aperture Vault Deleted Images (or sub folders and files from that folder) from the external hard drive that my vault is on? There are a lot of deleted images in it that are taking up space.
    Thanks in advance - Scrags

    Yes.

Recently joined BT Infinity option1 one, so yesterday i tried to access the vault. i ran through the steps to  create my digital vault. however when i try and sign in it doesnt recognise my username or password. so i thought maybe i had got these wrong so i have tried the password/username retrieval but it has no record of my username. so i though maybe the vault registration had failed, so i tried again however when i try to re register i get the following message
"This BT Digital Vault service has already been activated using the email address provided. Please click here to register for an alternative BT Digital Vault product."
please can you advise what i can do to rectify this
    thankyou

I have used Digital Vault since it first started. I keep backups of family photos which could never be replaced.
Its a bit slow to initially upload stuff, but then its quick.
It actually only uploads any changes to files, not the whole file. So if you have a big file which changes on a daily basis, it does not have to upload the whole file again, so its quite efficient.

  • Problems with my Digital Vault account

I have been having problems with my Digital Vault account lately.  For about a week I was told that there was no connection with the server and then I started to receive messages that there was insufficient space left in my account to enable backups of my usual documents.  I knew this was incorrect because my saved documents usually only take up around 50% of the available space.
In order to correct the problem I decided to delete all my saved copies and then re-upload them.   They have all been removed but my 'My Vault' page still shows that something like 2.95 GB of the available 5 GB has been used.
I cannot understand this as  my vault should be empty at the moment .    Has anyone experienced similar problems ?    What can I do to empty my vault so that I can reload my valued documents ?

    Hi badsworth,
If you can fill in the contact us form in the "about me" section of my profile, we can take a look into this for you.

  • BT Digital Vault Photo Upload

When I joined the Digital Vault several months ago I uploaded several hundred pics into various albums without any issues.
I recently went back into the vault to upload another load of pics but there is now a problem. Each time I try to upload several pics into one album it uploads the first picture and then crashes out back to the upload page. When I look at my albums the album I have created to upload the new pics isn't there. I have tried this many times now with the same result each time.
So now I can not back up any of my pics to the vault. This is hugely frustrating, can anyone advise what has changed or why it is now doing this?

    Hi
Do you have the latest version?  If so then you should be able to choose the "You Pick" tab, then open up the menus until you get to your photo directory.   From there you just tick (on the left hand side) the photos or folders you want to backup.
If you want to pick files from a folder other than your public photos file then select the "You Pick" tab.  In the bottom left hand corner you will then see a light blue button (which looks greyed out, but isn't) labelled "Add Files".  When you click on that you get taken to a navigation menu, which lets you pick any files from your PC.  Click on the files or folders you want to backup and click "Select" - they will then be added to your regular backup list.
Took me a bit of time to work it out, because it's not at all intuitive, but got there in the end.

  • Bt digital vault - cant set up

I use a much earlier version 2.8.2 on Windows XP.
If a file is saved, it only uploads any changes to the file, not the whole file. I have mine setup to check every 20 minutes and even with files of 20Mb, that change frequently, it only takes a few seconds to upload any changes.
The idea behind auto backup is that you always have an up to date copy of a file on the DV server. If you are only going to want updates every seven days, then you may as well simply use the web interface, and do it manually.
DV runs as a service, so to stop it, you would have to go into computer management, services, and stop the service.
Its startup is automatic, but you could set it to manual I suppose.
You could  start and stop the service using a command line
    net stop <service name>
    net start <service name>
