BT FON App on Android Tablets

I have a tablet based on Android 2.2.  It has been built by the manufacturer with a generic market app installed.  It does not, therefore, recognise that I am downloading from Market in the UK.  Consequently,  I cannot get access to BT FON on my tablet PC with Android Market.  I have tried getting to the app from my web browser on the tablet, but attempts at installation raise the old chestnut "there is no android phone associated with this account"... um, oh yeah - it's a tablet !!  I have rooted my device, tried market enabler, location spoofers, etc., etc., but just cannot get the BT FON app to install.
However, if I could get the BT FON .apk file I can USB it across to my tablet and install with a package manager.  Does anyone know where I can get the .apk file ?  I'd be really pleased if BT could mail it to me !!!  Having access to BT FON would break my tablet free of my house and wired connections
Please, no replies with complicated solutions about running an emulated Android device, copying images with Titanium backup, uploading files to DropBox ;-)

the app only makes connection a bit easier but if you wifi can pick up the BTFON wifi from a hub then just connect like any other wifi signal   username is your [email protected] and your password.  must be main account as sub accounts do not work.  normally it will remember the wifi connection and connect when in range

  • BT FON app for Android Tablet - help

I have just got a Android tablet.
It runs a cut down version of Android 2.1 and doesn't have Android Market on it.
Anybody got any ideas how I can download the BT FON app without going to the Android Market?

    Yes, and No.
If you are on BTBBAnywhere, you are on option 3, which gives you unmetred access (nearly) to Fon.
The key to Fon is not a BT SIM card, but a BTBB a/c.  I only know option 3 (which I am on) and that gives you open access.
So if you are with another operator with a windows/android/i phone + a BT Broadband #3 a/c, you sign in on the BTBB landing page with you BT username and password (sub-accounts dont work).
I dont know that #1 and 2 on BTBB have.

I need to create an APP that runs on an Android Tablet to play mp4 video stored on the SDCARD.  I have tried using VideoPlayer and passing NULL to the Connect() method, but while this will play a video from a shockwave SWF it will not play it as an APP from a .apk file.

There are several apps in the App Store. Look at them to see what might meet your needs. There is a keynote app that might be best for you.

    Hi 41CWxOfMsg,
I see that you have a question about the ePrint app.  At this time the ePrint app for Android devices defaults to portrait mode it doesn't rotate to landscape.

Just log into FON using a web browser, no app is needed.
Scan for the FON wireless network, and connect to it, then launch your browser and you will get the log on page.

  • Adobe Creative Cloud app for Android (preview) compatibility?

HI - I notice that Adobe have released an Adobe Creative Cloud (preview) app for Android. This is very welcome as it would allow me to share files across Windows desktop, Android tablet and, if necessary, iPad.
But it says it isn't compatible with my Hudl2 - why?
Could it be because my tablet is wifi only? (I hope not.)

I now have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Android app is not compatible with that device either - why?

  • Updated - NEW BT FON App for mobile internet acces...

    Hi Everyone
Some updated info to add to that below.  We've had a few people asking whether the app can be used on the iPad or Blackberry - i'm afraid the short answer is no - not at the moment but it is something we are actively working on.
We launched the app initially only on Apple and Android, and we've had a fantastic response so far.  Over 70k downloads at this point, making it no. 7 in the Apple iStore downloads.  We've had lots of great feedback and we are working on developing the app further so we can bring it to you on other devices and operating systems.
We'll keep you up to date with any new developments on this forum, so please keep checking back!
    Thx
    Kerry
    Original Announcement:
    Hi Everyone
We have launched a BT FON free mobile application that will make it easier to connect to the internet on the move.  Once you have downloaded the app it will automatically connect your mobile device to our network of 1.6 million Wi-Fi hotspots when you are in range.
To celebrate the launch of the BT FON app, BT will be donating 50p to Children in Need for each app downloaded until we hit our target of ten thousand pounds.*
What does the BT FON app do?
The application gives BT Total Broadband customers easy mobile access to free and unlimited Wi-Fi and includes a mapping device which updates weekly so that customers can find their nearest hotspot.
The application also allows BT Total Broadband customers to
Opt in to BT FON (if they are not already)
Automatically log in or be prompted to log in when they are in the range of a BT FON or BT Openzone hotspot, depending on how they have chosen to configure the application.
Find the nearest hotspot from their current location and look up other hotspots using Google Maps
Get help and support through the FAQs loaded into the app
    How do I get it?
The BT FON mobile application can be downloaded from the Android market or iPhone app store. It is compatible with iPhone 3Gs and 4, and Android phones such as the HTC Hero, HTC Desire, HTC Legend or Nexus One.
    Quick links:
iPhone Users can download the application from: the app store or by typing  http://bit.ly/iPhoneBTFon into the iPhone’s browser
Android users can download the application from the Android Market or by typing http://bit.ly/AndroidBTFon into their devices browser
Once you have downloaded the app, all you need to do is input your btinternet email username and password, and choose to be automatically logged in whenever you are in a BT Wi-Fi area.
Because access is unlimited and free for BT Total Broadband customers there’s no chance of racking up extra costs on your mobile phone bill.
For more information please check the Fon website: http://www.bt.com/freewifi
    Thx
    Kerry
*50p from every BT FON application downloaded will be donated to the BBC Children in Need Appeal, a company limited by guarantee. Once £10,000 is reached no more donations will be given to BBC Children in Need as a result of this promotion.

    Hi Guys,
The ipod touch devices don't have GPS functionality and hence cannot automatically locate your position if it hasn't already got a connection. The mapping still works as long as you enter the location (postcode, street name etc); but will not work if you select "Choose a location to search>Your current location".
There is no reason why the app won't work abroad.  A colleague at FON tried it successfully in Madrid. It will work with any BT FON/BT Openzone SSID.
    Cheers

  • WiFi Tether Your Android Tablet to Your Cell Phone - LG Marquee Boost Mobile Example

    Greetings Earthlings and Android Fans....
Just posted this to my blog and wanted to share a text version here. Check it out if you're looking to tether your tablet to your cell phone. I tethered my Thrive to my Boost Mobile LG Marquee.
From:  Kaio's Klassroom: WiFi Tether Your Android Tablet to Your Cell Phone - LG Marquee Infrastruct...
Want to tether your tablet to your cell phone, but Ad-Hoc got you down?  How about trying this nifty little tweak that got me up in running in a jiffy!!
I recently got a new LG Marquee Prepaid Phone with Boost Mobile @Amazon and I really love it.  Only problem is, I was spoiled with my last phone because it was rooted to support Infrastructure tethering and I had no idea how difficult and unusual that was.  I've since done some research with my new Boost Mobile LG Marquee, and after a little trial and error (and some lucky Google searches) I have successfully tethered my LG Marquee to my Toshiba Thrive tablet!!!
    Here's what I did:
Mandatory Disclaimer - The following information is for informational purposes only.  Proceed at your own risk!!!  Rooting will void your warranty and could "brick" your phone if you do something wrong!!  So if you damage your phone, or any of your tech, that's on you.
NOTE: If you don't have an LG Marquee, just search "your phone model" + "root" and you should find plenty of information specific to your phone.  There's always people wanting to do the same thing you are, so it's just a matter of finding the information that's already out there.  Once your phone is rooted, come back here and start on Step 2.
Step 1 -- Root your LG Marquee (You do NOT need to root your Tablet)
The following information was taken from LG Cell Phones Blog and are for the LG Esteem, which is a generic root mod.
    > Enable USB Debugging on your LG Marquee: Go to Settings > Applications > Development > Enable Debugging and check the box.
    > Download and install the LG USB drivers at:  LG Cell Phones Blog You want the file "LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN32AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3. 2.1_2.exe"
    > After installing the USB drivers connect your phone to a PC.  On the phone, pull down the notification bar at the top of the phone's screen and click on USB Connected.  Set the phone to Internet Connection mode (CHARGE ONLY not Mass Storage).
    > Download "LG_Esteem_Root.zip"  at:  LG Cell Phones Blog.  Unzip the file and double-click on the run.bat file.
Note: Kaspersky Internet Security will flag this file as a Trojan: "Exploit.Linux.Lotoor.ag"  I don't believe this file is a Trojan, per se.  I believe it's required during the root process.  When I let Kaspersky eliminate the file, my phone wouldn't root.  So I decided to run the root program on a secondary computer, just in case.  I disabled Kaspersky temporarily on that computer, and ran the root zip and my phone rooted without a hitch.  I later scanned my phone with Webroot Security and AVG, and neither found any viruses on my phone, so I believe the process is safe.  Technically, rooting your phone probably does involve a Trojan hack, hence why Kaspersky flags that file.  However, I must reiterate to proceed at your own risk.
Just in Case -- How to Unroot Sprint LG Marquee:
Use root explorer and delete superuser.apk from the /system/app folder. Go to the Android market and download and install super user. Use root explorer again and delete su from /system/bin. Go to the market and uninstall super user.  Do a factory reset & you will be back to square one.
Step 2 -- Verify that you have properly rooted your phone with this nifty free app: Root Checker Basic
If you did everything right, you should get a message that says "Congratulations, this device has root access."  If you fail to get that message, go back to Step 1.
Step 3 -- Download the Android WiFi Tether for root users app
Currently, the only version of Android WiFi Tether that worked for me was 3.1-beta7.  The newest version doesn't work properly with tablets, so be sure to get 3.1-beta7.  Here's a link and QR code for easy access: WiFi Tether 3.1-beta7 apk
Step 4 -- Configure WiFi Tether app:
I've tried many settings, but these are the only ones that have worked.  Start the app and grant Super User Permissions.  Then Click Menu to get into the app's setting.  Inside the Settings, do the following:
    > Change Device Profile to: Samsung Galaxy S
    > Change Setup Method to: Netd (Master)
    > Enable WiFi Encryption: Check box to Enable
    > Change Pass Phrase to: any 13 digit password of your choice.
    > Change SSID to: any name of your choice.
    > Change Channel to: 4 (2427mhz)
    > Disable Update Check: Check box to Disable.
    > Click your phone's Back Arrow to Exit back to the app's Main Screen
    > Touch the WiFi button onscreen to start tethering.
    > Grant Super User Permissions
Note: If you get Error Code 67, Click Dismiss.  If you update, I don't know what will happen; my guess is it will disable the ability to tether.  But if I click Dismiss, my tethering is Enabled, and works perfectly.
Step 5 -- Grab Your Tablet & Start Tethering
    > Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Check the box to Enable WiFi > Click WiFi Settings > Under WiFi Networks, find the SSID for your tethering app that you entered in Step 4 above. > Click on the SSID of your tethering app > Enter the 13 digit Pass Phrase you created in Step 4 above and Click Connect.
That's it!  Congratulations -- your tablet should now be tethered to your cell phone!
Now that you're tethered to your cell phone, be smart, and DON'T download a ton of gigabytes.  Just be smart about it, and you should be fine.  Remember, tethering to your cell phone probably goes against the terms of service with your cell phone carrier, so DON'T abuse the privilege.
Now that you're the envy of all your friends, why not test your data speeds: SpeedTest App - FreeMy data speed test results with my Toshiba Thrive tablet tethered to my LG Marquee:
    Download:  855kbps   Upload:  302kbps
That's pretty great for a 3g no-contract cell phone with unlimited data.
    Happy tethering everyone!
    Go forth and Androidify!
    Hugs, Kaio

  • HP Deskjet 2540 - connect to pc via USB, can I print from android tablet as well?

    Hi,
I've just bought a HP Deskjet 2540 all in one printer.
I have set it up via USB connection to my windows 7 pc, and it is printing fine.
I also have an android tablet.  Can I also print from this whilst using the printer via USB on my pc.
Any help on if this is possible and what steps I need to do if it is would be appreciated (I have been reaeding the help section on the website but I am just getting more confused).
     Lesley

    Hi @Lesley54R,
You don’t need to have the printer listed with the two different connections unless you’ll be switching back and forth from being connected by USB cable and wireless.  You can delete the one you don't think you'll be using.
To print the web page, please use the browser found within the app. I’ve included the ePrint Mobile App FAQs document for your reference.
In addition I’ve also included the ePrint Product Specifications document. This document has the list of supported email programs, file types and print limitations.
    Hope this helps!

When I try to scan from printer to Android tablet it comes up Computer not Found. Install Printer Software.I have got HP Remote All in One app and  eprint app installed. On my settings it shows the plug in app and the printer name and model. What else do I need to do to get this to scan from front panel of printer to tablet???
When you open the all in one app on tablet it will say scan on screen and then when you press it the printer will scan it to tablet but you cannot size it correctly (when you put A4 size in settings on tablet it still comes up too small to read. HELP me pls as I am quite new to all this. Thanks.

    Hi,
Firstly you can't scan from your printer to your tablet, you have to scan from your tablet. Please touch the "wheel" at the top right corner and change dpi to say around 200 and try again.

  • How do I direct my HP 5510 e-all-in-one scan output to an Android tablet

How do I direct my HP 5510 e-all-in-one-printer scan output to an Android tablet? My printer is connected to my wireless network. During the printer setup I was able to identify both my desktop and laptop computers as "scan to" computers and they both appear as destinations on the printer display.   I have been able to direct the printer scans to these two computers without problems. But I have not been able to find a way to direct the scan output to my Android tablet (Android Honeycomb 3.2.1). I have downloaded and use HP ePrint Home and Biz app and can print from the tablet. This app does not appear to offer a way to direct the printer scan output to be sent to the tablet. Any suggestions???
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
Currently, HP does not provide any scanning solution for Android OS.
Scanning from the front panel will allow you to scan to a computer only, and not to any mobile OS.
I would suggest you to search the Android Market for any 3rd party scan application, as the HP ePrint Home & Biz app currently provide scan capabilities for Apple iOS and Nokia Symbian as you may find listed below:
