BT Frustration low noise constant disconnects

Hi guys,
I have been trying to resolve an issue with my broadband for some time now.
with little support from BT, first excuse used our details arent on open reach so they couldnt send out a engineer, I had to wait 5 days for it to be added to there database, and they would call me back to arrange a visit. they never called.
I have changed the router, adsl filter.
as you can see the noise on down is waaaay bellow acceptable.
this is by far the worst line iv ever had.
My next step would to run a new phone line to check its not that.
Hopefully BT will check this as iv been on the phone for over 1 hour trying to get through to broadband support!
Cheers
Solved!

Hi imjolly.
I have connected to the test socket, done the 17070 test and theres no noise.
Just getting annoyed now, forever dropping but when i phone bt oh there are no drops at our end.
I can sit and watch the router go to yellow. any helps appreciated.
As precaution i have also reset the BT router, incase there was an issue there.
I work in IT so iv went through all the standard fix's or tests.
May i ask a question aswell, I got through to the call center a few weeks back
and requested fastmode to be enabled for my line as im a gamer and have always used it.
they said it was done but the router has never changed to fastmode always sat at inter.
is this a bug in the bt routers or did they simply not change it because the connection isnt upto standard?

  • Constant disconnects with Linksys BEFW11S4/Westell/Bellsouth Ultra DSL

I recently upgraded to the 6mb DSL service from Bellsouth.  Previously I had the 3mb.  Anyways everything was fine for sometime even with the faster service.  The last few weeks I have been having constant disconnects(several a day).  Naturally the wireless lite on my Linksys BEFW11S4 goes out each time.  I then un-power the router then re-power and I'm off and running again.  I am using a westell modem.  Bellsouth tells me that its not them since i do have an internet coneection and referred me to Linksys.  After several live chats(due to disconnects and then having to start tellin my issue all over again) they had me upgrade my firmware. Well did that and problem hasn't changed.  I've played with the different router channels and they don't seem to help as well.  Bellsouth told me that I had a static ip, so I tied setting up router that way, but then i got no connection.  Unil reently everything was fine, this just started!   Any help is greatly appreicated.  My 17 yr old daughter is going through internet withdraws upstairs!

If you are on DSL using a Westell Modem; make sure you ask your ISP to bridge the Modem first and use the PPPoE fucntion on your router. Change the LAN IP of the router to something else like 192.168.2.1 so it won't get a conflict with the IP of the Westell. Then if you are on cable, you can try adjusting the MTU size to 1492, 1400, 1300, or 576 then check which value would get your connection stable. You can reset your router right after you upgrade it also, then reconfigure it again. Hopefully yell be fine after that!

  • Constant disconnects with wireless router.

Hello and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
I have a WRT54G wireless router with speed booster. I am experiencing constant disconnects when online gaming. I have one PC - running windows vista 64bit ultimate. This computer is running a wireless connection which is secured and is about 10 feet from the router through a wall.
I also have an xbox 360 with a wired connection. It doesnt seem to have the same issues but does become a bit sluggish at times.
I have called linksys and they instructed me on how to upgrade to the latest firmware. I think it is 7.5.0 or something. Still having issues. Cox (my ISP) has been out and says I am getting a constant 2mb download.
Any help would be appreciated. I have talked to linksys again they have me pull up cmd and run a test which shows me at a 4-10% packet loss. They say this is an acceptable rate.
Still the problems continue. If anyone can help I would be very greatful. If you need more info just let me know and I will provide whatever I can. Thanks!!!

Sounds like a vista problem, they are breading like rabbits it seems. The WRT54G is a good router, I had one for years with no problems. What type of wireless card do you have in the pc, and is it PCI or USB

  • Constant disconnecting with my WRT120N

    Hi
I have a problem with my wrt120n. I'm having a constant disconnecting problem.
I don't have any problem with the wireless computers connected to the router but the wired one keep geeting disconnected. I'm loosing the internet many times a day on thiis one. Like I said the wireless is ok.
My old router on my computer ( wired) was working well before I installed the wrt120n.
    Can someone help me?
    Thank you!

This is a problem of the Linksys/Cisco WRT120N product itself.  The team from Cisco/Linksys is very irresponsible. Why i say so ?
The 802.11n signal is not certified to be supported but yet they have included this support in this router.  By doing so, it causes this related problem that most consumers must be facing now or in the past.  It is a shame that such a big company operates and sell their products this way.
The solution:  It does not have anything to do with MTU, beacon interval etc....  Just use Mixed BG wireless signal instead of
Wireless N only when you goes to Manual Setup.  I am sure that this solves the problem.

  • Constant disconnect/reconnect and tons of errors.

Ijust got a brand new iphone 4, and just installed newest itunes fresh a couple of days ago.
The computer is running windows xp pro, and was just recently reinstalled about a month ago.
When I plug my iphone into the computer it will start to sync and then stop an give me an error either about "error reading device, iphone not connected," or an error with a hex code, or all of the above and others.
    Heres what happens
I plug the phone in, the battery icon changes to a plug, then the lightning bolt, then back to normal, the phone tells me charging is not supported with this accessory, and sync in progress.
Windows pops up the autorun menu and asks me what I want to do with the connected camera, open it in word, or scanners and cameras.
Itunes also opens and starts the sync process, it shows syncing on the iphone.
then after backing up and copying some apps, the iphone goes back to the home screen as if it was unplugged, the sync stops and gives me errors.
I'm getting extremely frustrated with this too. If I leave it plugged in I constantly keep hearing the whistle noise the phone makes when it's plugged in, and windows wont shut up with the usb device plugged in/unplugged sound.
It will just keep disconnecting, trying to sync, failing and doing it all over again until I unplug it.
I've restarted the phone, restarted the computer and it still does this.
Do I have to unplug all of my other usb devices? it totally gets confused if I have a flash drive or another phone (my ROKR E8 or RAZR) plugged into the computer.

Sorry to tell you this but the iPhone is not a storage or backup device! Occasionally it will have problems, an app may be corrupted and cause problems! Because of this you will need to do one of the three (restart, reset, restore). You really need to backup everything on phone somewhere on your computer or a backup drive! Old phones stored contacts on the Sim... the iPhone doesn't... If you rely completely on your iPhone backup you may be sorry because that can get corrupted also!!
Again sorry to tell you this but having an iPhone when you dislike iTunes and refuse to backup (besides iPhone backup) is a bad decision... Not backing up is a bad decision with any smart phone!!! They're no longer plain old phones!!!

  • MDU via Zyxel VSDL - Constant disconnect is aggravating

I am in an MDU condo install where they send the Internet over VSDL to my unit. The VSDL modem is a Zyxel brand. Ok, I don't know what the pattern is but the modem just seems to be losing sync or something because I lose connectivity.  This has been going on for at least a month. Yesterday 1/14/2015 was the worst. It just seemed to keep dropping ever 2-3 minutes for awhile there. I do not yet see a pattern. Anyways, this happened before last year or so and a tech showed up and just replaced the router and the modem at the same time. It was fine after that. He didn't do much troubleshooting or anything. Nothing has changed inside my setup.
I tried searching google for anyone with a similar setup and could not find anything. Has anyone experienced this before? I am dreading having to deal with VZ customer service on the phone but this is really annoying the heck out of me.

Well, I called VZ last weekend after a really bad evening of drops. After several frustrating minutes of trying to explain my MDU setup, he asked me to disconnect then reconnect then he ran 'some tests from his end' (?). At one point, after explaining again the difference between my modem and my router he said he would check with some local office (?) then call me back. I missed the call back later that evening and he never left a callback number on the message.
Anyways, I don't understand what they could have done but I have had a pretty solid experience this whole week. there was maybe one time when I lost connection briefly --it looks like the router was renewing IP or something. I am not a telecom guy so i don't understand what they could have done. Maybe the issue was not a modem sync issue after all?

  • My iMac 2010 27" makes low noises EXCEPT when scrolling with my magic mouse.

It's like a low static electric noise but it stops when I scroll webpages and such with my magic mouse.

It's coming from inside the iMac and turning down/mute-ing doesn't change it and neither does it stop when I plug in headphones. It doesn't stop when I turn off the built in monitor.
The batteries are ok and no phone around. The sound is not like an interference sound. It's more like the sound the harddrive makes except not as loud and higher pitch (i guess).
The sound has been for a while. More than a month but not since I bought it.
    Thanks for your reply!

  • [Solved] Constant Disconnects/Timeout with ASUS USB-N13

I don't have built in lan/wifi in my laptop because the chip was fried during a storm so i'm completely dependent on my ASUS USB-N13 wifi for internet.
From the time i was running the install (2 days ago) i've been unable to keep a consistent connection to the internet as it always gets disconnected. It doesn't show it getting disconnected, it just times out.
I've read about everything I could find and am still just absolutely stumped. I'm no linux guru but i've never had such a frustrating time with anything in linux. So much to my dismay i'm making a post about.
Archlinux has picked up the stick without problems from the get go so I haven't installed the driver because most of what i read says the default should be good enough.
It was timing out when retreiving packages for the install as well, but after about 20 minutes of failing to reach the mirrors it would kick back on and continue downloading. Same happens in the gnome now unless i manually disconnect and reconnect from the network, disable or enable the usb dongle, or unplug and plug in the usb dongle.
Im not sure what else to say other then i'm now using network manager in gnome to handle it now.
Heres what i get with dmesg

  • Pantech UML290 - Constant Disconnects in SE Ohio

    Hi everyone,
    This is my story.
We were originally on the $59.99/5g plan and finding ourselves going over every month. At  $.05 for every mb over the 5g it can get very expensive. We were using the USB 760 modem with a cradlepoint ctr-350 router, and an external antenna. With 3 laptops and Xbox Live the network was slow but we never got disconnected.  Our best option was to go with the 4g plan at $80/10g. Bought the modem for $99 + tax and had to buy a new cradlepoint ctr-35 router which was $80 + shipping. Had to buy a new antenna adapter for about $10. With almost $200 invested in new equipment, we were ready to enjoy our new plan. Unfortunately, thats when our problems started. The Pantech UML290 constantly disconnects. Downloaded a program from the internet to lock the modem into 3g only and figured this would help based on comments in other forums. Seemed to help some, but no major difference.  Craddlepoint router works great as I expected because these are great products unlike Verizon's. It is very frustrating when you are doing important business online and cannot rely on uninterrupted service. If nothing changes within the next week, I am returning the Pantech UML290, going back to my old 3g service, and changing providers when my contract is up. What a shame to spend alot more money for worse service. Buyer beware.

FYI: I just called in for a second repalcement modem, first one failed to do the firmware update back in Feb. And since I got this second one, it has been dropping out, PC tells me the USB device failed, that was on a XP machine. Moved it to a Windows 7 machine, and I got the same thing. Just a few weeks ago, I got the firmware update for my Cradlepoint UMR-900 and I thought all was good, but sure enough, the router even reported that the USB device is not available.
This is with the Verizon's data plan. Now I wish I did not cancel on my Sprint data card, may have not been as fast, but it was dependable. I also had a Pentech modem with Sprint way back, it too gave me problems.

  • Constant Disconnects leading to poor internet spee...

    Hi.
During the summer i swapped from talktalk over to BT broadband, due to terrible customer support with talktalk. Initially things were great, the internet speed doubled with the switch and things were great.
Then suddenly the line seemed to be unstable and i started getting disconnects. I work during the day so im only online at night, but the instability seems to be at peak times only. Between 4-9pm ill get orange light on the BThomehub4, it will then take 1minute or so to reconnect. Once its reconnected i will have between 1-10minutes before another disconnect, this will continue 3-5 times before it becomes stable again for atleast a little while. If im online betwee 12pm-2am for example, the chainned disconnects dont occur. This has been occuring for atleast 3 months now.
The setup i have for the shown test was ; NTE5 testsocket > Cat5 > Computer. (no other wired or wireless devices connected at time of test.)

The only other thing ive noticed about this situation is that my line speed has also dropped . It used to read at 3.8mb actual, with a max line speed of 8mb. 4.4mb ish being the max i can attain due to distance from exchange (a couple of miles). It now reads 2mb max line speed. I'm not sure if this is just a symptom of the issue ive described above or merely as a result of it.

  • Constant disconnects using VZ Mgr

I really am tired of having to retype everything due to being erased here.
This is my only alternative to dial up and not at $60 a month I am constantly being disconnected from on line. What a pain! Never had that on dial up with aol. The tech support never knows what is going on and both times I have called there is no solution apparently. All the last guy said is he will watch.
Does anyone know why this is happening? I am using a desk top comp and not on a router or anything. I have not used the USB port prior so that should be fine.
I just got this VZManager late March and all was fine unitl the entire month of May and now started to regularly knock me off again. Thank you

In order to narrow down possible fixes, you will need to provide a little additional information.
If you can, provide the following information, this will give a good start to a resolution:
    1. Which Operating System including the Service Pack are you using?  i.e. Windows Vista, 7, XP or a Mac.
    2. Which device do you have?
    3. Which anti virus and firewall program do you use?
    4. Do you have any syncing software that you use on a normal basis? i.e. for syncing cellphone, dropbox, activesync, etc.
    5. What is the signal strength?  Determine this by hovering your mouse pointer over the top of the Green signal bars in the lower left section of the VZAccess Manager.
    6. When the problems began, did you notice if any software updates to either the VZAccess or to the Operating System were installed?
This will give me a starting point and of  course there may be additional settings, information needed to further research.
Also, when it "disconnects" are you actively browsing, have you been on the same page for a bit, is it during a certain time of day?
Note anything that may be happening at the time of the disconnect that may help associate the problem.

  • Turbo2 - Better Temps & Lower Noise!

Being overclocked from XP1600+ to XP2000+ brings obvious challenges on temps and noise. I had been running case side off/no case fans during a hot summer. So here's the sequence I started with the advent of really cool Fall temps.
-Put case side back on, and wonderful quietness, BUT (as expected) the temps started to rise. Experimented with a variety older case fans, but too loud, and took out. Temps finally rose to: CPU 50C and case 26C. Problem: rig froze up, and on reboot reverted to default 1600+. As these temps weren't that high, problem might have been other components reacting to heat.
Solution: Installed 2 new Enermax, 2 ball bearing (vs sleeve) manually adjustable (1000-3000RPM) 80x80 case fans ($7 at Newegg). They come with 3&4 pin voltage plugs and RPM adjuster on 14" cord (use small phillips to adjust). Also have grill guards.
Installation: Cut out fan bezels using tin snips (promote air flow and reduce noise) from rear and lower front of case. Used one bezel as a template, and drilled neat rows of holes in lower front of plastic case. Mounted front intake and rear exhaust Enermaxes on soft rubber washers (taken from roofing nails). Ran speed adjustment cables out the rear of case and out the now empty USB port door on lower front.
Warning: When I tried plugging one of the fans into Fan1 on the MB, PC Alert III went totally nuts! Use the 12v adaptor directly to the power supply.
Results: Quick recap - Going from CPU fan only/case side on TO same + 2 Enermax fans. CPU temp has dropped 9C and case 10C. Now back cruising at XP2000+ with about 10C to spare (with my gear).
These fans are Really quiet. If you spin them up to max you'll get a pronounced whine. I run them at about 1/2, and really can't hear them over my moderate CPU cooler and PS.
Hope my adventures are helpful in some respect.  :]

Just got a new case and some gadgets...My Thunderbird 1400 now idles at 42 degrees celsius. Overclocked to 1600 it idles at 42-43, under full load @1600 it doesnt go over 43.
In my old case i had 8 case fans, which made a whole lotta noise, so with this one i wanted it quiet. I put four 80mm case fans in (two front, two rear) and a 5 1/4 drive bay temp monitor/fan controller to run them. When its idling, the fans dont run, just the 5000rpm cpu fan, video card fan and thermostatically controlled psu fans. So its almost silent. When its under load, and the temp hits 43 degrees c. the fans kick in until the temp drops back and they switch off.
Gives the best of both worlds really, when im browsing or downloading or doing basically anything that wouldnt put enough load on the cpu that it needs extra cooling its quiet enough to be unnoticable, but when im gaming the fans kick in to keep the system cool. Since i usually either play games with the speakers cranked up (during the day) or use headphones (at night) i rarely even hear the exta fans spinning...
I picked up a motor speed controller kit yesterday, which i havent built yet, but will use that to control a 120mm blowhole and two 80mm side fans, so i can have them running all the time at around 1000rpm (quieter than the psu) to just give a slight breeze through the case, meaning the front and rear fans should only kick in after a lengthy period of gaming or benchmarking.
