BT Help Browser

Good evening
Having lots of issues following an engineer visit to resolve phone problem. Phone worked fine for the rest of the day after the visit - some change made at the exchange after a thorough check of our home.
Now next day and today, no telephone and continuous dropouts of internet (Infinity).
Somehow, my BT Help Browser ceased to work and I was prompted to update to a newer version.
After endless dropouts and attempts to run the Browser, I am told
"Missing shortcut, Windows is searching for BTHelpBrowser.exe"
I cannot find it either, suggesting it never appeared during the update of the Help Browser.
I am sure the internet dropped out at least 3 times during the download.
I have tried uninstalling again (using the BT Uninstaller) but that never seems to complete, hanging while attempting to do something to the registry.
Rushing before internet drops again!

Today saw 3 engineers (H&S requirement) fit a new connection from the pole to the premises. Everything flying along nicely and the phone line is crystal clear. Great job by the OR team.
OK, The BT Desktop Helper is a nice piece of software. It's not really needed until something goes wrong.
My problem is during an update to the newer version, the internet connection dropped at least 3 times. Now the program will not run, complains that the BTHelpBrowser.exe cannot be found.
Right, I went ahead and tried to install again but met with Installation Failure, The installation could not continue, BT Desktop Help is already installed. Wheter rightly or wrongly, I used the Windows Remove Program to uninstall the Helper in the belief that I could effect a clean install.
So, here I am going round and round in circles! I believe there might be a registry item that isn't being updated or cannot be updated because of something I have done during the internet drop outs. These lasted hours.
Can you or any of the other experts advise if I do a restore from a while back, I will return to when the Helper was up and running correctly?

Help! I cannot seem to find the solution for the error message I get when trying to generate a layout in Microsoft HTMl Help (Primary Layout). I am using the trial version, but it didn't seem to be an issue for anyone else in my class that was also using the trial version.

Sounds like a problem with the installation of RoboHelp on those machines. When you install RoboHelp, it installs the necessary files to view a CHM.

Preferences not setting help browser

I set the Help browser to external, but want to change it back. When I select Windows > Preferences > Help > Open Help Contents > In the help browser
then Apply it nothing changes. Can anyone tell me how to switch back to the internal help browser? Even though I can't search the text, which is strange, I prefer it to the web help because you lose context so quickly in the web version...

GIMP Help Browser

Hello. I have a question about gimps's help browser.
When I press Help > Help or just F1 it says it can't find gimp help browser. Selecting a web browser works fine. I have installed gimp-help-2. Also there is an executable file called help to /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plugins. What is wrong?

I found this too and investigated a little. It turns out that the gimp help browser depends on gtkhtml-2 (the relevant Arch package is libgtkhtml) but the PKGBUILD does not include libgtkhtml as a dependency and so the gimp help browser does not get built. Out of curiosity, I recompiled gimp with libgtkhtml installed and the help browser works, though I'm not sure that I gained any really useful functionality for the time and effort it took!

"Help" browser won't connect to the internet.

"Help" browser won't connect to the internet so I can't look up how to do anything. I'm surfing the web so I don't know why it won't connect. Anybody know what's up?

FYI: I'm working with video and FCP project on an external disk (of course) FW800, on a 27" iMac 2.93 Intel Core i7.

Help Browser - Connection Failed message

Has anyone ever had a problem where the help browser in all applications is very slow. It displays the pinwheel for about a minute and then I get the message.
Connection Failed: The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again.
This only happens when my other Apple eMac is offline. If its up and running the help browser works properly. Why would my new iMac be hooked into the old machine's help. Is the some plist I can destroy to fix this problem???

Thanks for suggestion, but no, neither computer had Internet connection sharing enabled. I tried altering some of the sharing options in System preferences on both laptop and desktop but continue to get the same slow response with "spinning beachball of death" and eventual error message as detailed above:
"Connection Failed: The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again."
Then Help viewer will work. When both machines are on the Help Viewer works normally.
Why would Help Viewer be dependent upon network connections??

Help: Browse, Open command buttons

I have a textbox in a form, i would like to have three command buttons:
(Browse, open, Remove).
when a user click the Brouse button, it should open the c:/directory allowing for choosing a file and when a user choos a file, a bath should be
stored in that textbox and into that field in my DB.
Also when a user click the open button, it should open the file.
Also, when a user click the remove button, it should remove the bath.
I really appreciate your help.

Help - Browser menu won't appear

My phone is the BB curve (8300 I believe).
This problem started about two weeks ago, and I have no idea what caused it or how to fix it.
When I'm in my internet brower, and I click the "BB" key to bring up the menu (to enter a new webaddress, select text, copy or paste), the menu doesn't appear.
Instead, my cursor just disappears.
If I hit enter the cursor comes back, but I can't get that menu to come up and it's kind of frusterating.
I have tried deleting recently installed apps, shutting down, pulling the battery, etc., but nothing seems to work.
And it's not that the "BB" key itself is broken or anything because it only doesn't work in the browser.
Anyone experiencing anything similar or have any ideas how to fix this?

Hi and welcome to the forums!
I suggest re- registering your device and resend service books.
Go to options advanced options, Host Routing Tables, click to enter. DO NOT click on any listing.
Press menu key, and select register now. You will get a verification message.. Then go to email settings and send service books. (see attached link.)
You will get an email per account. Repeat the battery pull and see if the problem is
resolved.

Change help browser

Is there a possibility to change the browser which LabView uses to show the Help content?
In my case I'm using Linux with the Linux version of LabView and chose a wrong application when I was asked to choose the browser application.
So now nothing happens if I press the help button and a window to choose the browser application doesn't appear any more.

Attempting to launch a help browser from a java application

I am currently investigating being able to view help html files through launching a browser from my Java application. I have come across the java.lang.Runtime and java.lang.Process classes which allow me to launch a browser like Netscape or Explorer and bring up a html file to view.
What I want to do is launch the browser and bring up an html index file as well as the required html help file every time a user would like to use the help for my application.
Is this possible using the other exec commands. If so, how? Is there somewhere I can find a user guide for Netscape and Explorer commands in order to send additional commands to the browser in order to do this.

I am on a POC for ADF. Customer want some suggestions for Browse Version for ADF development.
IE or Firefox, and more detail, such as IE 6,7,8 or firefox 3.5, 3.6 … is more suitable for ADF 11.1.1.3.

Firefox vs IE vs Chrome would be mainly based upon personal preference or corporate standard, as long as you follow the supported and certified browser list that Timo provided.

Webhelp v browser-based AIR Help

Hi, I 'm going to be writing help for a web-based application for the first time and am trialing Robohelp 9. Can anyone tell me the difference between the published files for Webhelp and browser-based AIR help? Would there be any technical difference in deploying them to a web server? My apologies if this has been answered elsewhere - I couldn't find a reference to it.
Also (probably a separate question), is there any way to incorporate commenting with either output type? I know this is not supported in the SSLs, but is there a way around it using script? It seems strange that only the 'offline' AIR help includes online commenting. And Adobe's own help pages include it (though they don't seem to use Robohelp!).

Just spotted this thread and am in the exact same position as you :-)
Really like the browser-based Air help look and trying to keep up with the limitiations and any issues.
We cannot use classic Air Help as the help system supports a web-based product and there is no way that the client will allow a 'special' install for a help system.The trouble starts when you start comparing Air Help, browser-based webhelp and browser-based Air help. In Air Help you are teased with the Favourites tab, the comments pod but they are not available for browser-based Air. The search also works differently in Air formats (results in topic window), something I only became aware of a few days ago. You cannot add custom buttons to tool bar in BB Air something I've found very userful in web help. We have also had a few formatting issues and use a different .css for webhelp and airhelp (mainly to get styles to match the different skins).
There is no doubt that the browser-based Air output looks slick and as John said the skin can be modified to give a corporate feel. But your visitors will need flash player to view content in the left hand pane - its flash that gives it the slick look and feel. I'm trying to run some test this week to find out what will happened without flash player AND to check how the help appears in the various browsers.
I'm curious, have you had any specific issues with running browser-based help on a webserver? We are still awaiting feedback from developers, but so far they have been unable to get browser-based help running on server - just a blank page with grey background. I'm reassured by Peter's comments so hoping it is some security setting that they can deal with. The most sensible approach now is to try and get webehlp running in same environment.
I will definitely post feedback and will be following this thread closely now.

Help Application Help the browser opens but getting err msg

when we select Help -> Application Help ,the browser opens but we get
the message that 'Page cannot be displayed'for some transaction codes,
not for all transaction codes.For eg.sm50,PA20,PPOME.
Please help me .

But My question is help->application help browser is displaying for other t.codes like ST22,sm21 etc. but it is not opening for sm50 ,PA20...in a system.
SR13 configuration setting is for all t.codes whereas we got error msg 'page cannot be displayed ' for some t.codes not for all.
Please help me on this.

Tips and help on browsing web

I typed http://www.facebook in the browser. I assumed that it will append ".com". But it is not sending. Is it possible for the browser to fill ".com" automatically?
Are there any tips on browsing?I found following other problems.
1. When I switch to landscape mode, browser is filling right side with the menus. How do I fille with more content?
2. How do I zoom content? Double tapping is making it to 200%. Is it possible to zoom different levels without using Options menu?
3. How do I just see image properly. I want image to fill whole display
4. When I click on browser, how do I make it to take to home page? Clicking on browser is taking me to list of book marks. It would be better at least if can show home page on top of list.
5. Some times clicking on arrow to display right side buttons is actually taking to link if there is link below arrows. Don't know how to avoid it.
Appreciate any pointers to help browser experience.

also, about the rev, i got a heat sink on mine, why would they make a rev-a with a heat sink? shouldnt they be making only rev-d if d is the newest? the box is the nicest box i've ever seen a computer part come in but it says rev-a on the box. is there a way to find the rev on the card? i dont want to bother taking it out or i'll have to take out a lot of water cooling things in there just to check. would like an answer before i check. if it is a rev-a with a heat sink on it... why, i know it's the process they're made in, but then that means it's a newely made card but used a rev-a style? they should give us the option to pick which rev we want to buy if we're buying from them straight from their site. I just wanna get this straight. i have no problems with the card so far, but just want to know.

How can I get help? Help files do not work.

1. None of the links in my Help files from within the program go anywhere. I had to manually go online to the Adobe site to get to this spot to try to get help. I'm using Elements Organizer 10. I can bring up the Help browser with all the topic links, but clicking on them does nothing.
2. The reason I was trying to access the Help files is that I cannot figure out how to see all the photos in a file instead of just the most recently imported photos. I am in Folder Location display mode. I tried to import all the photos in a particular file, but it imported only seven--said the rest had already been imported. But now it will only show me those seven just imported. I can go back to Thumbnail view, which gives me the View All button, but then I can't limit the view to just the photos in a particular file. I am so frustrated!
And since I don't really know how I got to this screen (thought I was submitting a question to Adobe Support) I don't know if I can even find my way back here to check for somebody's kind assistance!

I believe the problem is that there is no "Show All" button in the Folders
View. I've gone back to Thumbnail View and selected "Show All," then
returned to the Folders View and clicked on the particular folder, but it still
displays just those seven photos. If I click on another folder I get all
of the photos in that folder, but click back on this folder and I'm back to
just seven of 50+ items. Interestingly, I also tried going to the Import
Batch view, and in that batch it shows only two pictures!
By the way, I have shut down the program and restarted a couple of times.
I've also checked to make sure there are no album or keyword items checked
which would limit the items shown.
I cannot afford to update to PSE11, because I just updated to 10 last
month! I'm feeling very stupid at this point and about ready to give up.
