BT HH5 - Apple TV Drops out frequently

Since the upgrade to the firmware on my HH5 that occurred (without my permission) on 15th January, I am finding it impossible to watch anything on my Apple TV.
In any 40 Minute episode playback will stop abruptly about 3 times. Each time with the message "Your Apple TV is not connected to the network".  Before the firmware upgrade it was rock solid.
You have to wait a few minutes then the Apple TV will re-connect and playback can be continued.

"Smart Set Up" ( there's a misnomer)  causes problems on devices, Apple in particular, that do not automatically launch an Internet browser when you connect to the Homehub. When you connect the browser launches and gives you the option to use smart set up to do various things now that you are a BT customer. Because the device can not launch a browser Smart Set Up continues to try and give you the options which cause the problem.
It is in my opinion another piece of software junk along with BTDesktop Help, BTNetprotect and BTCloud that BT should stop trying to give/force on to its customers.

  • My Apple TV drops out when my iMac isn't connected to wifi yet my TV is connected to wifi.  Also having issues with losing settings on Home Sharing as well.  How do I fix these issues?

Whether I'm watching a movie purchased via my Apple TV or a movie stored on my iTunes app on my iMac I'm having constant issues with Apple TV either cutting out (randomly - not related to wifi) or not being able to access the 'My Computer' files when my iMac drops out the wifi connection because its in power saving mode.  I also have issues with 'Home Sharing' settings having to be reset and sometimes having to unplug the Apple TV power cord and plugging it back in to be able to successfully reset these settings so I can get back to watching whatever it was I was viewing on Apple TV.  My TV is connected to wifi as well so I'm wondering if there are any changes I can make in the settings of both my Apple TV and iMac or TV so that I can just select whatever it is I want to watch and be able to watch the entire movie or episode without it dropping out or having to keep flicking the mouse on the iMac to keep the computer connected to wifi?  I love Apple products generally but Apple TV is proving to be a pain in the a**e lately.  Hopefully someone can help me sort these issues out

Intermittent issues will point to a local network/wifi issue.
Reboot ATV and router, make sure both are up to date
    Try ethernet
The home sharing connection will cut out if the iMac goes to sleep.

  • Apple applications dropping out.

My apple applications (Safari, mail, apps store, iTunes, iBooks) drop out as soon as I attempt to open.  My other applications are working fine and have had no previous problems with any applications dropping out until today.  I have tried reset, reboot - any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

  • Why does apple tv drop out when music playing but movies ok ?

wifi signal is 3 from 5 so seems ok
    movies play back ok
music replay will drop out/stop occasionally
playing from my macbook pro and itunes

The Apple TV is connected to my network on ethernet. After the Apple TV has restarted it will work for a while until it is either unselected from AirPlay or until after the movie is finished and I have disconnected it from home sharing.  It's just inconvenient to have to restart it every time you want to use it.

  • Apple TV Drops out after 5 minutes

    Hi,
Just got a 3rd Gen ATV and connecting through BT Infinity with a Home Hub 3 in the UK - when playing music, appears to be ok. When watching downloaded programmes from the MAC - it plays for about 5 minutes and then drops the connection to Home Sharing back to the main menu. I then reselect the programme within ATV and it plays fine for the whole duration without drop out.
When trying to watch a recent iTunes festival concert - the same thing happens, it drops out after about 5 minutes streaming but t

I've had the same issue since upgrading to latest iOS 5.1 on appletv and latest patches on mountain lion mine usually drops out after a minute

  • Satellite P70-A01D Win8 Wi-Fi drops out frequently

    Satellite P70-A01D
    PSPLPA-01D002
    Windows 8
Just brought this from D/Smith. Wi-Fi connects fine.
Then after a little while as I am browsing I lose the connection, or it displays as "limited".
I then have to reconnect (which it does easily) and all is fine... but only for a while.
Then I go through the same dance again.
I am 3 metres from my router. Signal strength is not the issue.
All our other WiFi devices are fine (2 iphones, 2 Ipads 3 laptops). No drop outs at all.
I have run Windows updates until there are none left to install - so current there.
I cannot find this laptop on the Australian toshiba website (http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support) to get toshiba specific drivers eg BIOS WLAN. The dropdown lists the make, model but when I try the operating system drop down it refuses to list any OS.
Therefore I cannot proceed to find any drivers at all.
I have used device manager to 'update' the wireless NIC but it reports my drivers are already the latest.
    Help!

    Hi
The notebook series is very new on the market and I think this is the reason why the drivers are not available yet.
However, I think you should try some other workarounds to check whats wrong with the WLan connection.
First of all it would be interesting to know if the WLan drop outs happens only using the battery power or also connected to mains?
If it happens only using battery power, the WLan cuts might be related to WLan power saving.
Secondly you should test if you can use different WLan standards (802.11 A/B/G/N)
Usually you can change this in device manager -> Wlan card -> properties -> Advanced tab
Last but not least check if the issue is related to the encryption settings.
You should connect the notebook to the unsecured (open) WLan. But do that just for testing purposes.

  • HH5 (Type A) - Drop-out issues now resolved? Still...

I have had a quick read about the forums - nothing conclusive on this one and as BT told us time and time again there wasn't a fault with the HH5 I don't suppose there will be an official post confirming a fix :-)
So, I had an HH3 with external VDSL modem - all was well. Upgraded to HH5 (Type A) and I had nothing but problems. Constant rebooting and my lovely 78/14 connection becamse 52/8 and wouldn't budge.
So I went back to the HH3, had an engineer visit and all was well once more.
Fast forward to yesterday. HH3 takes a nose dive. Don't believe it is PSU, but basically it switched off and won't come back on - it's looking rather broken.
So, I've still got my HH5 (Type A) in the draw and thought, well I do need fast broadband at home.
    So, to the questions.
Has the issue with the HH5 (which I had, many others had, BT said wasn't an issue etc.) now been fixed? I appreciate that I will have out of date firmware, however if I start to use it and I'm assuming the firmware will aitomatically update itself, will all the old dropped connection issues have gone away?
If not, is an acceptable option to use the HH5 togeother with my external VDSL modem? I remember this solving a lot of people's disconnection problems as it appeared to be an integrated modem issue in the HH5 and not using that seemed to solve all issues.
    Your advice greatly received.
    Thanks.

the firmware fix has for vast majority fixed the connection dropping problem of the hh5a  many chose to get modem and use that in conjunction with the hh5a and were happy with their choice as it stopped the conenction drops.  it also appeared to help connection in general
so you can try just leaving modem conencted and connect the hh5a to modem using hub wan port or you can conenct hub direct to master using the hub dsl socket

  • HH5 5ghz keeps dropping out. 2.4 ghz is stable.

This started a few days ago.  First noticed on my Xbox One that I was losing connection to Xbox Live, but because they have had some problems, I assumed it was at their end.
But I have been using my tablet on 5ghz the last few days as a test and the same thing is happening.  2.4ghz on both my Xbox and tablet is fine for the most part. But I have found that on occasion my laptop gets the limited or no connection message.
Nothing has changed at my end, save what I think was a firmware update the end on January?
Very frustrating though, as I buy mostly digital games on my Xbox One and 2.4ghz download speed is pretty bad compared to 5ghz for some reason.
Edit: should have mentioned that I have obviously tried rebooting and changing channels on my HH5.

I wouldn't expect much help here or from the technical support line. I have been having this problem for weeks, see my post:
    https://community.bt.com/t5/Other-Broadband-Queries/Terminally-Slow-5ghz-wireless/m-p/1446902/highli...
After close to 2 weeks battling with the contact agents, I have finally got them to send me a new router, seeing as with me, wired connection and the 2.4ghz band is fine

  • Apple tv drops out immediately

I have ATV 2nd (the black one) This has happened twice now.  What happens is this: I would select a channel, radio station, TV video almost anything that requires streaming.  The moving circle comes on for a second then ATV returns to the selection screen w/o playing what I had selected.
I restarted the ATV, my airport extreme to no avail.  I don't have any other network problems on any of my other devices. I have not reset the ATV.
    Any ideas?

I've pretty much given up on this ATV(2nd).  I'm waiting on a Roku to tide me over until the next generation ATV comes out.
The ATV is on channel 1 2.4GHz WiFi.  The next nearest channel is 7.  The channels do not matter, this behavior comes and goes and I don't know what causes it.  Somedays it works just fine but then the next day it does it again.  I've reset, restored the software and restore to factory condition and it still behaves the same way.  My guess is that there is some tired out component inside the box.

  • USB Audio dropping out frequently

Several times a day I lose all audio output on my computer (I'm using USB Sound Sticks speakers).
It seems to happen when viewing video content in Flash Player. Not sure if it actually related to Flash, or if that is just when I notice it.
Sometimes audio will come back on its own.
If not, a reliable way to bring the audio back is to quit the 'coreaudiod' process in the Activity Monitor.
It is usually (not always) accompanied by a message in the Console that says:
'WARNING: AppleUSBAudio has detected that clockgetuptime () value changed radically from previous values"
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Does anyone know what that message means?

I think I solved this by switching the USB port I was using for the Sound Sticks.
It hasn't happened for several days now.
Both ports are the powered ones on the back of the computer, so it's not a USB hub issue. There must be a problem with that first port.
I hope this information can help someone else...

  • Apple AirPort Express - Streaming Music on iTunes - Frequent Music Drop out

*Apple AirPort Express - Streaming Music on iTunes - Frequent Music Drop outs*
I have just purchased an Apple AirPort Express for the sole use of streaming music from my laptop to my home cinema system.
My system has bundles of power (Core 2 Duo, 3gb RAM, 320gb hard disk, Intel-N WiFi) and is running Windows Vista Premium. I am using the latest version of iTunes (version 8) and have it setup to play through remote speakers. I have my AirPort Express connected to my home cinema system.
When I play music on iTunes through ONLY my computer speakers I have no problem with drop outs.
However, when I play music through either (1) my AirPort Express or (2) multiple speakers (i.e. the AirPort Express and my computer speakers together) I experience frequent and unbelievably annoying drop outs in the music stream.
I have determined this has nothing to do with interference with the wireless signal and believe this is something to do with iTunes - the reason being the drop outs occur in BOTH the computer speakers AND the AirPort Express speakers (when I select multiple speakers) but does not occur when I select ONLY the computer speakers.
Please could you provide some advice on this as I am unable to use the AirPort!
    Many thanks
    Elliot

You don't say which Airport Express you are using and what its settings are.
There are two Airport Express models. The original model works on 802.11b/g on 2.4 GHz. The later model can do 802.11n on 2.4 GHz or 5.0 GHz. My experience is that interference when using the 2.4 GHz band creates drop-outs when sending audio from iTunes to an Airport Express. I now have an 802.11n network on 5.0 GHz and no longer have drop-outs. I also have a 2.4 GHz 802.11g network for my iPhone and other devices that can't do 802.11n. They are connected to each other by ethernet.
Interference on 2.4 GHz occurs because a lot of people nearby have wireless networks too. You may not notice the interference when doing other network activity that is not time dependant but it shows when streaming music. Using a utility like iStumbler or AirRadar I can see I am the only one using the 5.0 GHz band in range of my computer.

  • Audio drop-out in FCPX with 1920x1080 & 2048x1240p @ 24p (codec Apple ProRes 4444 (Linear PCM))24p

    Hi all...
    I'm new to this forum.
Is there an audio issue (drop-outs) with FCPX (ver 10.1.2) for 1920x1080 24p, 1080p HD & 2048x1240 24p (2k) - note: films in FCPX are in codec Apple ProRes 4444, Linear PCM?
Very recently I've been working on a show reel and I have imported a file (short film) to snip out a section to add to the show reel.
I set the project to the film's settings i.e.. "set based on first video clip"...(1920x1080 24p, 1080p HD).  When I play the film in FCPX the audio "hic-cups"..."dips to silence"..."drops-out" briefly (up to 0.5 secs in duration) and very frequently all the way through (approx 15 mins long film)...note: audio set is at stereo 48kHz. The audio monitors on the right hand side also show the dip taking place (if it's a long enough drop-out).
I also have a version of the film in 2048x1240 24p at 2k, again Stereo 48kHz...and this does the same audio "drop-out" all the way through.  I'm unsure what other formats will create this problem i.e. higher or lower aspect ratios than those above.
Is this a software and/or OS issue?  Or a hardware issue?  Or both!?
    About This iMac details:
    iMac 27 inch: OS X ver 10.9.4
Processor: 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB
    Fusion Drive 3.12 TB
Final Cut Pro X was bought & installed with this iMac back in Feb 2014
    FCPX version: 10.1.2
Note also:  I used Compressor (ver 4.1.2) to convert the files (movies) above to Apple ProRes 422 HQ, Linear PCM and the issue disappeared - the audio and visuals played with no problems.  All films play with no issue when opened in QT player.  They are also fine when exporting from FCPX.  The issue only occurs (as far as I can tell) within FCPX when editing or playing the audio there.
    Has anyone encountered this problem?
    Kind Regards,
    Hakan

    Hi Luis,
    Thank you for that.
Seems like you have a point about the "hardware" issue.  I'm unsure (new to it all) at what data rate my (er...wonderful) fusion drive provides FCPX for smooth playback - or where I can find that info on the iMac.  Playing back movies in the 422 HQ codec seems to have no issues (when I converted the movie from 4444 HQ).
But playing the full 4444 HQ, the picture is smooth, but the audio has these drop-outs - even with "best performance" option ticked. Interesting that the audio suffers, not the picture in FCPX - so not sure what's going on there. I also read - perhaps - that to play a smooth ProRes 4444 HQ movie in FCPX the data rate should be min of 500 Mbs (based upon About Apple ProRes) for HD movies and up (i.e. 2k).  ProRes 422 HQ needs a data rate of 220 Mbs - so that is my upper-limit to smooth video&audio playback with the current system I have, I guess.
Does anyone recommend a fast USB3 or Thunderbolt drive (500Mbs+) where I am able to run 4444HQ movies with no issues to picture or sound (away from the fusion drive)?

  • Airport Express Frequent Music Drop-out

Looks like this is a standard, mostly unfixable feature with this. Great.
Anyway - laptop inside on wireless, hooked via AUX to stereo receiver, sending to AE outside hooked to other receiver.
Music plays, but drops out (volume down) frequently. We have cordless phones, no base stations that near. Microwave wasn't on.
    Any ideas for troubleshooting?
    DC

Ok, thanks for clarifying your current network configuration for me. What is important is to understand the path the audio stream must take to get to the AirPort Express.
Basically, it will be: Laptop >>> AirPort Extreme >>> AirPort Express > Audio Receiver, where ">>>" represents a wireless connection, and ">" represents a wired one.
For the wireless connections, distance, other (non-audio streaming) network traffic, & Wi-Fi interference (cordless phones, walls, other Wi-Fis broadcasting nearby, etc.) will play a toll on the overall bandwidth available left for streaming.
I would suspect the bandwidth will be the least between the two AirPorts. One simple test would be to calculate the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) at the location of the Express. SNR (in dB) = Signal (in dBm) - Noise (in dBm). You will want SNR to be 25+ dB. You will want to take the measurements with the Express powered-off so that you will be calculating the SNR for the Extreme only at this location.
You can easily obtain the Signal & Noise values (if your laptop is a Mac) from System Profiler.
Click the Apple icon in the menubar
    About This Mac
    More Info ...
    Contents > Network > AirPort > Interfaces > en1 > Current Network Information > Choose your Wi-Fi network > Signal / Noise
While your here, note the following values as well:

  • Apple TV & Homehub 3 Home Sharing Drop Out

Good morning all and my apologies for posting this in the BT Vision section but I didn't know where else to go.
I've had BT Infinity for a few months now and been generally happy with the service.  I'm a Mac user and at the weekend I decided to purchase an Apple TV 3.  One of the main things I wanted to do with the ATV3 was to be able to use Home Sharing from my iTunes on my Mac.  I set everything up and it was all looking good, within minutes I was happily streaming video to my Apple TV.  5 minutes into playback however it dropped out.  It said on the Apple TV that Home Sharing needed to be enabled, I went back to the Mac, Home Sharing was enabled but I reconnected it again and it started working again.  5 minutes later again it disconnected.
I'm no network/router expert but even then I knew something was wrong.  I started to trawl the Apple forums looking for people with similar issues and found a LOT!  Problem is that everyone has different routers, issues, fixes and none of the solutions I tried seem to work for me, such as changing the channel on the router, reboots etc.
Basically I'm just really stuck now.  I'm not the most technical of people (but I do know some stuff) but I'd love some advice if anyone can help.  At the moment the Apple TV is practically unusable for me and I really would love to be able to have this working as when it does work for those brief few minutes it works really well and does exactly what I want it to.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I should add I found the following on the Apple forums although this seemed to be quite an old post (2 or 3 years) and was for an older Home Hub as when I checked I couldn't seem to add the Port Maps in the same way as this post and got confused
    Solution:
    1. Update the software on Apple TV (Settings | General | Update software)
    2. Perform windows update (Start | All programs | Windows update)
    3. Obtain the latest release of iTunes software. Run iTunes. From the iTunes menu select About | Check for updates. I am running version 9.1.1.12.
    4. Check that you can view movie trailers from Apple TV. If you can't then you the apple TV has not connected to the BT home hub wireless network. You need to enter the BT home hub wireless key (which is found on the back of the bt home hub) as you password when you connect your apple TV to the wireless network. Check again that you can view Movie trailers. Don't proceed until you can.
    5. Enter the BT home hub manager (Start | All Programs | BT Home Hub | Hub manager). Select Advanced. Enter admin as the username and your password to your hub. This is either a password you entered when you first set up the hub or the S/N number printed on the back of the BT Home Hub. Click continue to advanced. Select Application sharing. Select Create a new game or application.
Enter MyAppleTV against Name. Select Manual Entry of Port Maps.
Enter this Information one line at a time:
Protocol | Port range | Translate To ... | Trigger Protocol | Trigger Port
    TCP | 123 | TCP | TCP | 1
    TCP | 3689 | TCP | TCP | 1
    UDP | 5353 | UDP | UDP | 1
    TCP | 80 | TCP | TCP | 1
    TCP | 443 | TCP | TCP | 1
    TCP | 53 | TCP | TCP | 1
    6. In BT home hub manager navigate to the devices menu, just above application sharing. And select MyAppleTV from the drop down menu and assign it.
    7. Turn the power off on the Apple TV, BT home hub, and PC. You must turn the BT home hub off.
    8. Turn on Home hub, PC. Wait for your network to return. When it has turn on apple TV.
    9. Open up iTunes. In the menu select Edit | Preferences | Apple TV. Check that Check for Apple TVs is selected.
    10. In iTunes under Library and Store, Devices should appear and within Devices Apple TV should appear.
    11. If this does not work then phone Apple support and do not let them fob you off by offering you a replacement Apple TV.
