BT Home Hub 2/BT Infinity Home Hub Backup Files

Hi Guys, I have a Home Hub 2 with some specific DynDNS and port forwarding settings set up on it. I have just ordered Infinity and was wondering if the Home Hub 2 backup file is compatible with the new Infinity Hub? It would save me a lot of messing about adding all the settings back in again!
Cheers

Just ask the engineer, he has software on his laptop which will enable him to copy all setting from old hub to new infinity hub

  • Is it possible to connect my home computer to files stored on my running osx server mac via VPN

    Is it possible to connect my home computer to files stored on my running osx server mac via VPN. I have VPN set up and can access the Calendar and Contacts via a web browser, however I want to be able to access data files store on the hard drive and shared external drives connected to it. The MacPro runs OSX Server Lion. Any Ideas if this is even possible or how to do it!

    Yeah, that's what I kinda figured. Maybe there is another solution - here is my situation:
    I have internet and cable service through Telus. Telus' system consists of a modem/set-top-box that provides internet (ethernet and wifi) and TV signal (corded) for one TV and another set top box that provides internet (ethernet only) and TV signal (corded) for my other TV in the basement.
    I have an Airport Extreme connected to the modem upstairs which I am using as my home network wifi. I also have an external hard drive (USB) connected to it on which my iTunes library is shared with all Apple machines in my home network.
    My upstairs ATV, connected to my APE, works fine and streams internet (Netflix), iTunes Store and my shared iTunes drive just fine - the APE is 3 feet away with a great signal.
    My downstairs ATV, also connected to my APE via wifi, does not stream so well, particularly the media from the shared drive. I suspect that this is the case because of signal degredation.
    Any suggestions on how to reconstruct my home network to enable my downstairs ATV to work properly?

  • Get volumes displayed by default under Home when opening File Explorer in Windows 10 Technical Preview

    Scenario:
    In Windows 8.1, it is to display volumes under This PC by default when opening File Explorer, which is as shown in Figure1. However, in Windows 10 Technical Preview, it is not to display volumes under Home by default when
    opening File Explorer, which is as shown as in Figure 2. This articles describes a workaround to get volumes displayed by default under
    Home when opening File Explorer in Windows 10 Technical Preview.
    Workaround:
    This workaround is to edit some related Registry keys. Note: Please click
    Yes in the User Account Control prompt to continue. What’s more, before you make changes to a registry key or subkey, we recommend that you export, or make a backup copy, of the key or subkey. In this scenario, please backup the key
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer.
    Click Windows icon and type Folder option in Search box, and click
    Folder option to open it.
    Under View tab, clear the checkbox Hidden extensions for known file types
    in Advanced settings.
    Create a Text Document, copy the following lines into it, rename it as

    i think what he want is to change the Win + E shortcut to This PC.
    I understand that is the goal. I've tried the registry hack, it works, but I found it left fragments of other files from "Home' scatter around in there too. We all been using this new version of windows for a few weeks now, built up a list of stuff
    we have looked at, and that is why I said it's not the prettiest solution. It might have been okay if it was done just after a fresh install. In my alternative solution, you are bringing the This PC icon out to a more accessible place so you
    don't have to use the File Explorer icon to get at the volumes i.e. hard drive view.
    Personally, when I launch the File Explorer, I am expecting to be looking for something straight away on my hard drives and not be presented with a list of stuff that I have already looked at. That kind of thing should be left
    in a Recent Folder sort of thing we use to see in the older versions of windows.

  • Simple home network backup strategy ?

    I have a simple home network of 4 machines on a router, all running Arch. None of the boxes are a server. I do not have NFS nor Samba running. I want a simple, incremental cron-based weekly backup process, to be backed up to a spare hard drive on one of the computers (eg hostname "master"). I believe rsync with ssh might be the easiest way to go, something like: "rsync -e ssh -varuzP /home/whoever master:/mnt/tmp/backups".
    The cron job would first of all make sure the master computer is online, or send a message to the user to that effect. My problem is I do not know how to remotely mount, from a cron job, the second hard drive on "master". I suppose I could ensure that "master" auto mounts that drive each session but I would prefer not to do that. Any ideas appreciated.

    Another strategy for you to consider...
    At a slightly different time each night (or whatever interval you want), have each computer on your network create a backup archive of itself.  I recommend xz compression for this because it is slow to compress and small, but fast to decompress.  eg
    include="$include /root"
    include="$include /home"
    exclude="$exclude --exclude=/home/*/.mozilla/firefox/*/*Cache/*"
    exclude="$exclude --exclude=/home/*/.mozilla/firefox/*/bookmarkbackups/*"
    exclude="$exclude --exclude=/home/*/.mozilla/firefox/*/urlclassifier3.sqlite"
    datestamp="$(date +%Y-%m-%d-%H%M%S)"
    tar --ignore-failed-read $exclude -cf - $include | xz > "/backups/backup-$HOSTNAME-$datestamp.txz"
    Next, if the security is needed, have the computer encrypt the archive using a GPG public key created for this purpose.  (By using a public key, you don't need to be there to type in the password, and you don't need to include a password on the command line.)
    gpg --always-trust -r 0xAAAAAAAA -o "/backups/backup-$HOSTNAME-$datestamp.txz.gpg" -e "/backups/backup-$HOSTNAME-$datestamp.txz"
    (Where "0xAAAAAAAA" is your public key ID)
    You can then delete the .txz original.
    Then have each computer copy its backup file to each of the other computers on the network.  You can do this by sharing an NFS backup folder on each computer, rsync, or using any other method or protocol.   In some cases you could alternatively have a computer fetch a backup from another computer.
    You can write a single script to do all of this on every computer, and have it read the $HOSTNAME variable so it can determine what machine it is running on.
    Later in the night, have each computer run a separate script that checks that all the backups for today are present in its own backup folder, including those from all other computers.  If there is a problem, have it send an admin alert, perhaps using local email or a CLI smtp client like msmtp.  If there isn't a problem, have each computer run a cleanup routine to delete old backups.  eg
    # Remove backups older than 10 days
    find -L /backups/ -type f -mtime +10 -name "backup-*.gpg" -execdir rm {} \;
    This strategy is good for relatively low-volume dynamic data, like a /home folder and /etc.  I find I like having separate backups from each of the past 10 days, rather than one incremental backup.  For larger static data (music, movies, etc) you may want to use an incremental backup.
    Advantages:
    Redundancy - every computer keeps backups of all the others
    Decentralized - no need for, or reliance on, a dedicated master
    If the network is down, each computer at least creates a local backup.
    With static tar archives instead of incremental, you have snapshots of the folders as they were several days or weeks ago.  This way if you discover a problem later, you can go further back than an incremental backup allows.
    Each computer can backup a custom set of folders for itself.  And each computer can store backups for a different number of days, depending on its storage capacity.
    Issues:
    Be sure to have a copy of the GPG secret key!  If the only backups of it you have are encrypted with the public key, you're in trouble.  One way to avoid this is to have your backup script support a manual mode which encypts with a conventional passphrase instead of the public key.  You can run this manual mode to create a static backup occassionally, and it will prompt you for the passphrase.  The backup will thus contain an accessible copy of the key pair used for the automatic backups.
    Sometimes NFS will hang for hours rather than producing an error.  This is why it's good to have a separate script on a separate cron job which checks if the backups were created successfully and sends an admin alert.
    Always test backups!  It is terrible to discover your backup wasn't being created as you expected when you go to use it.  Test to make sure you can decrypt and decompress it, and that it contains everything you expect.

  • HT204053 I already set up an iPad with my school Apple ID but want to access my home Apple ID files in iCloud.  If I delete the school ID in iCloud is my school ID still available?  In other words, can I delete an iCloud account and get it back later as i

    Since I already set up an iCloud account using my school ID but need to access my home iCloud files, do I need to delete the iCloud school ID to get those home files?  I believe so.  If so, then can I use the same school ID and password later for iCloud or will it require that I change the password, etc.? Is there another way to get those home files without deleting the school ID?
    OR, just help me figure out how to get my school PC to read Pages files.  That would answer all the questions.  No, I don't have technical permission or power to add programs to my PC.
    Thanks for any help you can give me in this matter.

    To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.
    When you do this, you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this happens, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • How do I hide the parent folder of the user home folders in File Sharing?

    In 10.6 Server I would set the parent folder so that "Everyone" could not list folder contents, then set "Everyone else" read only.  This prevented the parent folder from showing up in the list of available Share Points and allowing users to see the list of home directories.
    In 10.8, this trick no longer seems to work.  No matter what I set the ACLs to, the folder always shows up as a share point in the connection window.  2014 is the folder I've set for the Home directories of our network users (and there will be 2 more for graduating years.)  I can set the ACL so if they attempt to mount it, it just spits out an error saying they can't view the contents, but that isn't reasonable.  I don't want it to show up at all.  The only thing the students should see is their home folder.  Nothing else.
    What can I do to make it so 2014 doesn't show up in the connection window?  2014 is the parent folder for the home directories, so it can't be unshared.

    This prevented the parent folder from showing up in the list of available Share Points and allowing users to see the list of home directories.
    That second sentence should read:
    This prevented the child folder (parent folder to the home directories) from showing up in the list of available Share Points and allowing users to see the list of home directories.

    There are a bunch of folders within your home folder, you may want to decide what exactly you want to back up or not.
    Besides your personal folders (Desktop, Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures), you may want to decide whether you need to back up the library folder. The library folder generally contains preferences for most of your applications, and also caches and applications support files. These can become really big in some cases (Mine is more than 8GB, will not fit on a dual layer DVD). And the Library>Caches folder contains temporary files that will change from time to time, this might be the cause of your previous error since the shortcut is no longer valid.
    Once you chose your files and make sure they will fit on your blank CD/DVD, you can just do what you did before, drag the folders to a Burn folder, make sure you are not running any other apps, so they won't be modifying the files.
    There are programs you can use to backup to CD/DVD, Disc burner like Toast will span across several discs if the data does not fit on one. For a more automated solution, Carbon Copy Cloner (http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html) can backup to disc images which you can then burn to discs. I personally don't know a lot backup programs that provide good support for CD/DVDs, so I'll leave this to other folks.
    If you are going to backup regularly, I would recommend spending some money on an external drive. You can find quite a few free software for automated backup and saves money and time on burning CD/DVDs. Plus you have the advantage of being able to boot from the external drive should anything bad happened to your internal one.

  • Mobile Account Home Sync Duplicate Files

    We use profile manager, with an OSX mobility profile with home sync, for management of our OSX devices, combined with AD sign on with "create a mobile account on sign on.
    For many of our users, they are experiencing files are duplicating with .network extension on the end, and that deleted files are being re-synced back to their device.
    Setting the keep most recent option with the sync conflicts appears to fix the .network file issue, but the returning of deleted documents, appears to be repeat occurring.
    I haven't found any documentation regarding the issue on how to resolve it, and I am currently in the process of trying to replicate the issue myself.
    Is there a work around or fix to this issue?
    Appears to be happening across different versions of OSX. 10.8 - 10.10

    Hi, the only workaround I know of, is to uncheck the library folder from syncing, ANYTHING running live while the home folder is syincing (MS office for example, it's DB is in your docs folder, will cause a sync error, as well as iphoto.. etc.. the only other way to fix this, is to set it to sync manually at login & logout. I wish my issues were that easy

  • Word 2008 for Mac and NFS mounted home directories "Save File" issues

    Greetings everyone,
    (Long time lurker, first time poster here)
    I admin a small network (under 20 workstaitons) with a centralized NFS server, with user home directories mounted via NFS upon login.  Users are authenticated via LDAP.  This is all working fine, there is no problem here.  The problem lies when my users use Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac.  When they attempt to save a file to thier Desktop (or Documents or any folder under thier home dir) they are met with the following message:
    (dialog box popup)
    "Word cannot save or create this file.  The disk maybe be full or write-protected.  Try one or more of the following: * Free more memory. * Make sure the disk you want to save the file on is not full, write-protected or damaged. (document-name.ext)"
    This happens regardless of file format (Doc, Docx, Txt) and regardless of saved location under the network mounted dir.  I've noticed that when saving Word creates a .tmp file in the target directory, which only further confuses me to the underlying cause of the issue.
    When users logon to a local machine account and attempt the save, there is no issue.
    I have found many posts in other commuity forums, including this one, indicating that the issue is a .TempoaryItems folder in the root of the mounted directory.  This folder already exists and is populated with entries such as "folder.2112" (where 2112 is the uid of the LDAP user).  I find other posts indicating that this is an issue with Word:2008 and OSX10.8, with finger pointing in either direction, but no real solution.
    I have installed all Office for Mac updates from Microsoft (latest version 12.3.6).
    I have verified permissions of the user's home dir.
    I have also ensured that this issue effects ONLY Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac apps, LibreOffice and other applications have no issue.
    Does *ANYONE* have a solution or workaround for this issue?  While we're trying to phase Microsoft products out, getting users to ditch Word and Excel is difficult without removing them from systems completely.  So any pointers or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    ~k

    I can't tell you how to fix bugs in an obsolete version of Office, but a possible workaround is to use mobile home directories under OS X Server. The home directories are hosted locally and synced with the server.

  • Flash profiling of memory after clearing cache of home-made rsl files

    I have a question about the flash memory profiling tools.
    Once I have completely loaded a swf file into my browser, complete with multiple home-made gigantic RSLs (not flex swzs), the memory footprint of my application is small; I have not instantiated any of the objects in the RSL files.  However, as stated earlier, the RSLs are very big files; full of embedded assets.
    If I clear my browser cache, those gigantic RSL files are deleted.
    Then, when I use my flash app to create objects from the RSL, flash profiler shows my memory footprint increase.  That makes sense; I just made some large objects.
    But from where did flash load those objects?
    I deleted the RSL files.
    The flash profiler showed I was using hardly any memory, suggesting that the class files were not loaded into memory already.
    Are the files kept in a secondary file cache?  Is there a second memory cache?  Can I profile its size?

    1. No. and the main footprint of a bitmap is probably is per-instance so the instance cost is probably what you're interested in.  Anything embedded is also a class and the first time you access the class the Class category should go up by a bit.
    2.  When your app requires an RSL, the SWF for the RSL is loaded into memory (in a buffer you can't see from the profiler), expanded and parsed (into even more memory that you can't see from the profiler).  Then as you access classes from the RSL, the profiler should show growth in the Class, Object and Function.  If you statically link just the code you need, the amount of memory to load the SWF and parse it will be smaller since it doesn't need space for classes you won't need, but after that it is the same.  The advantage of the RSL is that most folks end up using 200K or more from the RSLs so that's a download cost you pay the first time you run the app.  The Flex RSLs are pretty well deployed so your chances of having savings is pretty good.  Private RSLs for your app will do no good unless there is another app on the same domain that uses the RSLs.  See the modules presentation on my blog for more info
    3.  The profiler does not show System.totalMemory.  Even that number isn't the whole measure.  We're currently fans of PrivateBytes to measure total weight of the app.  But it depends on what problem you're trying to solve.

  • Does Konqueror Support Two Home Pages? File Manager Home, Web Home?

    Konqueror is getting better and better as a browser and I was using it at length the other day. I really miss a Home page though - not just the first page loaded, but a page you can return to by pressing a Home button on the button bar.
    Now Konqueror does have a Home button on the button bar, but it seems to only be configurable for the File Manager profile. Is there a way to have that one Home button go to your home directory when you are using Konqueror as a file manager, and go to a web page when you are using it as a browser?

    Navigate to the webpage you like as homepage while you have started konqui in webbrowser mode, then click "settings->Save view profile 'Webbrowsing'"
    Then konqi will startup with this site everytime you start it as webbrowser.
    About the home button: I am sorry it can only have one function, but you could use the bookmarks toolbar for such things (as you may bookmark file system urls too)

  • Open Hub & flat file

    Hi All,
    How to perform flat file expatriations from BW utilizing the Open Hub Service (Infospoke). Can any one explain me step by step.
    Thanks,
    KN

    We use infospoke to archive the data from the datatarget into a flatfile or a database table.
    To create the infospoke select the tools menu -> open hub destination.
    Give the technical name and click on create.
    In the general tab select the type of the object and the name of the object from which the data is is to archived.In the destination tab select the file or the dbtable to which you want to move the data, and give the destination path.
    In the infoobjects tab select the objects you want and the order in which the file is to be generated.
    If you want to extract the data selectively ,you can give selections in the selections tab.
    Then activate the infospoke . Click on execute .The data will be moved to the destination in specified format

  • How to recover plist files from a deleted user home directory .dmg file

    Our company is starting to have our mac users authenticate against active Directory, One of the requirement is that the local mac user account short name can not be the same as the active directory account so it is necessary to remove the local users account, we do this by removing the local and turning the home directory into a .dmg file, after the user logs in with their active directory account, we mount the .dmg file and move the files over to the new home directory, However the system does not transfer over the pervious system setting such as Dock settings Desktop background setting, and plist files how do we get these setting moved also.

    there is nothing else to transfer. the problem is probably related to the fact that you are using AD. I'm not familiar with it so can not comment further.
