BT Home Hub 3 Needs Frequent Restarting

For the last couple of weeks I have had to restart my BT Home Hub 3 every few hours in order for my various wireless devices to share data.
None of the devices ever loses its connection to the Internet. I can continue to use each device for web access, for example. But none of the devices can see one another.
I have to restart the hub before any of my computers can access my wireless printer, for example.
After restarting the hub, the devices can all see one another again immediately until the problem reoccurs for some reason.
Does anyone know what might be causing this problem and how I can fix it?

you can try downloading inssider3 (istumbler if MAC) and then run it. This will show the broadcasting networks round about you and their channels including your own. If you then enter your router and change your wireless channel to a free or less congested channel.
you can also try changing the hub wireless from b/g/n to just b/g and see if that helps
are all the wireless drivers up to date 0 check manufacturers website and not windows update

  • Home Hub needs to be re booted daily

    Hi
I have been with BT Infinity for a number of years with no problems. Both my PC and laptop have connected fine and my phones also. Last week although both my phone and also my partners linked as usual to the wifi OK neither of my PC's would pick up the signal. After checking all connections were good I re booted the HH and then both PC's successfully connected. Next day and subsequent days it has happened again.
Any ideas how to fix this without re booting every day would be much appreciated!

have you tried a factory rest of the hub using the recessed button on back and holding until lights flash?

  • BT Home Hub 4 Constantly restarting.

    Hi All
I have a HH4 and it keeps restarting itself and random intervals through out the day.
I have 4 wifi devices connected and one NAS drive via ethernet.
I have done factory resets, cold boots etc and it keeps happening.
    any suggestions?
    Bt?

Have the line tested by BT.
I'm only a half mile from the exchange and had a similar problem with my HH4. It was a poor connection in the local cabinet.
Use the master socket to eliminate any problems with extension wiring.
Dial 17070 option 2, listen for noise, clicks, pops. Use a corded phone if possible.

that usually helps. don't forget to save your settings, i.e., writing them down or save the .conf file.

  • Frequent Home Hub restarts

My Home Hub v2(A) restarts itself at least twice a day.
Is it normal and why does it do it ?
    ** Update **
I've counted 5 restarts today so far -
Does anyone know how it shows in the Event monitor , is it "Linestate down" ?
    Ta,
    djh22.

Hi, the best thing to do is ring up bt and ask them to check your line for any errors, if they say it's all Clear then it's probably the homehub 5, I had 3 in a row that did the exact same as yours does so I replaced it with my own router, have you still got the white modem you had with the home hub3 and hub4 ? If you do if you plug that Into the homehub 5 red wan port with a Ethernet cable and plug the other side into the modems wan1 port. That fixed my issue but I replaced the hub anyway because of the poor wireless.

  • How do I set up my time capsule with my PC and BT home hub

    Hi, I really need help.
I have a new time machine I am having trouble setting up. I have a BT Home Hub that I have hard wired to the TC to the WAN port. I have Connected my PC to the Ethernet port. The PC will not find the TC.
I also need to Wi-Fi attach other laptop PCs to it.
    PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP?
    Ade.

You might have an IP collision ..
unplug the wan connection to the home hub..
Restart the Time Capsule with a single ethernet connection to a pc plugged into its LAN port.
Make sure the pc is getting an ip address. Open airport utility and see if you can now access the TC.. !
When you say PC do you mean windows machine?
Windows can have some issues accessing the TC.. especially if you have the windows computer on win7 running homegroup.. which is a wretched piece of incestous connection between win7 exclusively.

  • E72 needs to restart frequently

last 4 months am using my E72 for my communication needs.
but the issue with this system is when ever i connected to the data package for checking mails its working perfectly. But once i logged off and disconnect this internet connection the issue  starts. after that incoming calls are not working, means the caller will get a reply that my phone is not in coverage area or it is switched off and i cannot make call too. this is happening many times even i am not using the internet. I need to restart the phone to resume the working stage.
can you please help me to solve this issue.

ksajeev, I had this issue too and...just the phone out of the box: i called it and it rang.....but after...for a few minutes if I treid again I got the "switched off or not under coverage" message. This happened at home, at office all was ok. So..my suggesion....these are, tom e,  network issues....
Some of an incompatibility phone-network? My experience is that everything fixed by itself...I didn't make anything...

  • Connecting to home internet via airport - always need to restart the router

I set my home PC as the main station to connect to my ISP. With a wireless router (linksys Wireless-B), I used to share the internet connection to other wireless devices, for instanace, my palm and ibook, my sister's notebook PC and Pocket PC. once, I took my ibook to an internet cafe, which gives free wireless connection facilities. My ibook obviously scanned the wireless network, and was connected (as I noted from the Summary of the "internet Connection". but, when I activate Safar, it said that it could bring me to any website because my computer is not connected to internet. it's very strange, as the Internet Connection said it's connected to the wireless network. The Safari page suggests me to run "network diagnosis". i follow the instruction, and it says I should restart the router and then it would work. I didn't succeed. A while later, it connected. I thought it was okay.
Then, this problem comes up even when I am using my home's internet connection via the airport. I use DHCP to connect to my home internet connection. though the airport summary page said that it's connected to my router (the IP address is my router's address), again, Safari said my computer is not connected to internet, so it didn't work. I followed the instruction of the Network Diagnosis, it again asked me to restart my router device. I also noted from the Airport Section of the Network Perference that, it says the airport has a self-designated IP addres, so it may not connect to the itnernet. later on, I retarted the router and the modem (without turn on my home PC), the ibook connected to the internet.
i checked the router setting of my home PC. I'm sure that it's open to all wireless user. Strange through, after I update the settings (even though i didn't make any changes, perhaps the action of 'save settings', it's kind of equivalent to the action of restarting it), my ibook's connection works. When my retarted my PC and ibook, the connection problem comes up again.
it's very frustrating. Does it mean that I need to restart my router everytime? What about if I want to connect to wireless hotspot outside?
    Please please help

Your problem description is complicated, making it hard to figure out what exactly is wrong. Unfortunately, WiFi does this quite often.
To avoid this kind of problem, you should set up different Locations in your Network Preferences for different places that you connect up. That is, make one location for your Internet cafe and another for home. Leave the Automatic location alone.
For locations you know you are going to connect by WiFi, go to Network Port Configurations and drag Airport to the top of the list to give it priority.
If you have a location, where you want an ethernet connection or want to use your internal modem only, then drag those options to the top. Get the idea?
MacOS seems to get confused sometimes when you switch back and forth between different connections all the time. This will not happen if you tell MacOS where you are by explicitly setting a location.
To get out of a situation where MacOS thinks you are connected to non-existent ethernet connection, go into
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
    and delete the NetworkInterfaces.plist file.

    1. Can you please suggest why do we need to restart teh XI Server ?
It is not done on the frequent basis until you fae some problems like file adapter not appearing in the adapter configuration.....none of the adaters are present in ID (EX)
it will only start the servicess or other things which were hanging or not responding state.....
    2. In what way it will be helpful for us ?
ot moght e helpfull some times but not always...it depends on the probelm you are facing...lot of problems can be solved without restarting the server
    3. Will it clear any locks ? or any dump files ?
       Not sure
    4. Is it recommended to star t and stop the sever ?
Not recomded to do it frequenlty without any valid reason (until you apply some patches etc)

  • Frequent freezes with black "you need to restart" error box

Since installing Tiger I get frequent freezes along with an unfamiliar error message that reads "you need to restart..." In addition, I often find this has happened when the computer has been asleep; I'll enter the office to find the computer making a loud 'racing' noise, the power supply and fan sound like a car being driven at 60 mph in first gear....
When I installed the OS, I also attempted to update the firmware but wasn't able after seveal attempts to determine if the firmware was infact updated: saw no progres bars, no long whining tone as per the instructions...
Are thesse issues related? Any ideas?

I believe if you updated your Apple TV, you need iTunes 11 to make it work.

  • BT Home Hub restarting itself

For the past 2 or 3 days, I'm finding my BT Home Hub is restarting itself a lot. I previously did not have a problem with any form of self-restarting of the Home Hub.
I'm not sure what version it is, but if you tell me where to find it, I'll be happy to provide whatever information might help in a diagnosis.
It's happening about 6-12 times a day. Sometimes hours apart, sometimes only 20mins. I was thinking it might be maintence issues (we had a large electrical storm in the county on Tuesday (4 days ago) which caused 3 local power surges to affect my house (I did disconnect everything between the 1st and the 2nd). But there was no issue with the router resetting until a full 2 days after that.
It also does not appear to be running hot and the use of the seperate phones seems to be unaffected.
So... any ideas anyone? Any help is appreciated

Okay, so it looks like it's a HomeHub 1.0 judging from those pictures, my closest exchange is http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/?exchange=Pembroke&exact=758 and doesn't show that there's been any outtages in this time-frame.
The Hub is connected to the Master socket through an extension, it's not probably not the best solution but it's all we have available to us at present. But that hasn't changed for years, and certainly not during the timeframe of the current problems.

  • Speed variations and needing to reset Home Hub

Hi everyone.  Just a quick post to say i have had infinity for almost 12 months and apart from the odd hiccup now and then i have been extremely pleased with the speeds and service
I recently upgraded to Infinity 2 just like many others and am now seeing the same problem that a few others have posted about....i.e. at seemingly random times my speed is dropping from approx 60 Mb/sec to more like 3 Mb/s.  If i reboot the home hub then the speeds immediately return to normal!!
Just wondering if anyone has any further info as to why this seems to be happening to myself and a few others.....( only happened since the upgrade )
Not a big deal really and i am still more than happy to be lucky enough to be able to get Infinity in the first place

Hey, a lot of posts on here have been about this very issue.
I still have to be 100% convinced it's a hub fault though, but getting a replacement can't hurt. Why am I not totally convinced?
Well, I can go weeks without any issues at all - no real heavy downloads, no p2p, no TV stuff, no films - my speeds hold up as expected given the IP profile - then suddenly, bang, down from 55Megs to 0.5 megs. My HH3 did it a few times before my upgrade to 80/20, but I have found that a simple internet disconnect and connect via the hub manager fixes it. You do notneed to touch the modem or power cycle the hub, just go in via 192.168.1.254 using your browser, find the right section and do as above.
We should not need to be doing this and I wonder how many HH3 returns are simply being recycled back out again? Otherwise I can see there being an HH3 mountain, much like the old butter mountains of latter days!
Keep us informed as to how you go on ... if it continues, how often does it drop speed etc. It all helps us build up a picture of what might be going on. Nothing sinister one hopes ;-)
    Cheers,
Rob (and have been stable for a couple of weeks now, no reconnects needed! And no HH3 change either)

  • Home hub 3 restart

Hello, I was just wondering if the new home hub 3 resyncs more often than the home hub 2 as my home hub 2 could go about 2 months before resyncing but my home hub 3 cant go 3 days.
    Thanks

    Hi Jack
Oh dear, so I wasn't the only one
I've been working closely with a hub manager (a person, not the hub manager), hlc and many more bods at BT. It does appear that I was sent a faulty hub which is currently being looked in to. You may not same issue, but you never know....
I started a thread about the hub3, but the relevant bit referring to disconn's is here - http://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/Inside-the-Hub3/m-p/167863#M3320
Of course you can read the full thread if you so wish, even add to it

  • ADSL Filter Needed with BTInfinity Home Hub 4

    Hi
Had BT Infinity Home Hub 4 installed 2 months ago. Recently we had a problem with our phone -no ring and no dial tone. My wife contacted BT about this and was advised to remove the filter and plug the phone into that socket. She did this and the phone and internet are working fine.
The filter that my wife removed appears to be a remnant from our previous non infinity broadband as it is connected to a wire leadin to the ceiling. BT said they would send us a new filter which we have received.
My question is- can we just leave the phone plugged in without using the filter as i am given to understand that filters are not required for the current version of infinity.
    Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.
You are correct filters are not required, the engineer should have fitted a new front plate on your main socket like this.
