BT Home Hub 5 reeboting often

Hello. Since October, when I had the Home Hub 5. It worked perfectly. I had little to none reboots when using it.
About 1-2 months ago. My Home Hub rebooted often.
Its sometnig by OpenRG
10:12:51, 12 Jul.
(1211465.530000) The system is going DOWN for reboot.
10:12:51, 12 Jul.
(1211465.530000) OpenRG is going for reboot by IPC command
10:12:46, 12 Jul.
(1211460.530000) OpenRG will go down for reboot in 5 seconds
It rebooted again today but I am not sure since there is no slot for 16.07.2014.
It might be my relatives seeing as they keep touching it. They have probably never seen a Wi-Fi router and are adjusting to it.

My hhb5 type b rebooted on its own stating in the event log that it was a System start Button press (PowerButton), how is this even possible, only explanations i have is 1:A ghost, 2omeone at the other end triggered the button press. Lost loads of upload speed and my ping as gone up, also lost a bit of profile, the upload speed is due to the heat, or it was a diliberate attempt at the other end to make me sync at the attainable rate, as i was syncing higher than the attainable.
I love conspiracy thoeories.
However, as the OP has been advised try a quiet line test firsrt, 17070 option2 and make sure there's no obvious noise on you line. If there is report it as a line fault and do not mention broadband.

  • How often do YOU reset your Home Hub, please?

I have Infinity and Home Hub 3.0 type B.
I posted a few weeks ago about my wireless printer going off-line. To cut a very long story short, the problem was my Home Hub. After resetting it, as someone here advised, my printer worked OK.
The same thing happened last week so out came the giant paperclip and I reset my Home Hub = worked.
I'm having problems connecting to a site - on both my IE8/XP and Win7/IE11 PCs - but a friend gets through OK.
So it's not the site, nor IE8.
My Win7 laptop suggested that I run HP Network Check, which I did. It's fixed a problem - it had to "purge my DNS Resolver cache" - sounds painful - but says I must reset my router.
Does anyone else with a Home Hub 3 have to reset it weekly? What affects the frequency of resetting?
    Thanks in anticipation!

I use an HH3, supplied when I joined BT Internet from Virgin due to appalling service from them.
When using a Netgear or TP-Link router/modem our connection was always 'breaking' and being reset - almost every night!  With the HH3 that doesn't happen so often and the throughput is generally better (despite a slower sync speed being reported!). Reverting to the other router/modems gives the same unreliable service as before.  Even trying a different Billion router/modem gives the same old interuptions, etc.  So I suspect the way the BT Internet system is set up favours the HH range but they appear to have fundemental design problems too.
As for how often I have to do a soft restart, or power cycle, depends on how the exchange equipment decides to reset the connection. It can go for a couple of weeks without a change but then decide to make changes most nights (during the night and not the daytime for some strange reason). When it makes the changes, it always reverts to a much slower sync and throughput with often enormously high noise margins (the ideal for us is about 8 dB but it usually resets to 15-18 dB!). So then a reset is called for and afterwards we generally get fair to good results but rarely anything outstanding. Our line length is a serious limiting factor and we'd love to be able to get ADSL2+ but that is not planned and we'll have to wait for the BDUK Intervention plans to find out if we'll ever get fibre in the area.
And as for 'technical support', as an experienced electronics engineer (now retired after 50 years in the business) I have to cry!  They don't know what they are talking about at all, but read from a script that does not cater for many actual problems.

  • Home Hub 3 and 4 Connections Limit ?

Hi All i am very much hoping there is someone expert on issues such as number of connections allowed and home hub interconnecting.
First things first.  I had a home hub 3 and it kept on dropping the signal.  it went on for several months and many calls to Bangladesh.  Very often the problem was fixed and all reunning perfect ...... for a few days sometimes even a week or so.  Then it was back to This page cannot be displayed or 'No Internet' in the wifi connection window.
At the beginning the hub would show fault ie the red light would start to flash.  I also had a terible phone line with a lot of crackle.  One of the 'remote fixes' seemed to cure this and from then on the blue light was always on and for a while the signal remained ok.  then it bagan to drop intermittently.
i also have a connection to a remote part of the garden and run a 40 meter Cat 5 cable from a port on the new homehub4 up to the homehub 3 at the other end.  When i connect this, the home hub3 in the garden receives Internet no porblem but i loose it at the main hub.  no faults are reported and the signal is said to be excellent and 'Internet Access ' is usually displayed.
i can often get the first page but then clicking any links gives a page with cannot connect to this page please check the name etc.  if i unplug the lead going down the garden to the homehub3 I get ful connection back.
I think there is more than one problem but for now i just want to fix this bandwidth sharing issue.  Surely i should not loose connection as soon as i connect to a slave hub down the garden?  it does come and go after then and i will receive the odd batch of email but it is disconnected 80% of the time.
Anyone any idea what sort of a problem this is?  if it is bandwidth, can i set a limit on how much will go the the slave homehub3?  or can i set priority to the homehub4?  or even to a specific IP address ie my laptop?
both hubs use dhcp so i did wonder if there was conflict of IP addresses but i dont see how this can be because my connection comes and goes whereas theremote homehub3 stays perfect connection for skype etc.
Another very interesting aspect was that when i would drop out on the new hub, i could connect to BT WiFi with Fon and got a connection no problem.  Yet that connection must be supplied by my homehub4 so how can it supply me through wifi with fon no problem but not a direct wifi connection when i an literally 2 feet from the router?
that element has now vanished because the Bangladesh team finally decided it was the new router and sent an engineer to test it.  he concluded it was the router and changed it for one he had with him butthis one does not give any signal for btwifi with fon so I am scr___d !
absolutely anything appreciated.  I was an IT professional for many years so dont be shy to use technical terms.
    Thanks in advance

  • Home Hub 3.0B Management interface unresponsive.

This month (2 weeks ago) I upgraded to Infinity 2 and got a new Home Hub 3.0 Type B.
I was able to get it all working as I wanted to - home network using 172.16.0.1/23 (because of conflicts with vpning into work which already routes 192.168./16 and 10./8)
However, often, very often, trying to access the Hub web interface on 172.16.0.1 or via bthomehub.home simply fails to respond. Regardless of the browser, or me using telnet to simulate a HTTP call.
    #host bthomehub.home 172.16.0.1
    Using domain server:
    Name: 172.16.0.1
    Address: 172.16.0.1#53
    Aliases:
    bthomehub.home has address 172.16.0.1
    # telnet 172.16.0.1 80
    Trying 172.16.0.1...
    Connected to 172.16.0.1.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    GET /
    And it just hangs.
Even though the web management interface is unresponsive, the internet seems to work ok, though wifi is sporadic.
Rebooting the hub doesn't seem to help.  I read some reports of badly fitted heatsinks on these Type B's - so could mine be over heating and causing this lock up?  If I leave it and try again in a few hours it may work again.  Yesterday the internet connection dropped twice and when I was able to login to the web interface, the Event log showed that the hub had spontaneously rebooted itself.
Do I have a bad home hub?

    Hi pgregg,
Have you tried a full reset of the hub yet? Not just a reboot?

  • Home hub 3b latest firmware

Hi got the home hub 3b last week having a look around home hub manager checking all the different settings come across firmware which is on Software version V100R001C01B031SP12_L_B last updated unknown, is this the latest firmware?
If not how often does it get updated and does having power save mode on midnight to 7am affect this in any way
    Thanks jase.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Jaseb41,
I think the latest firmware version for the HomeHub 3 Type B is V100R001C01B031SP12 .
Having power save enabled shouldn't effect the upgrading of the home hub's firmware.
So according to your current firmware version and what the BT website says to be the latest version it seems your up-to-date.
If there is a new firmware for your HomeHub3b in the future then it will automatically be upgraded (and they are usually upgraded in batches over a period of time)
    Hope that helps,
    Cheers

  • Home Hub 5 Firewall bug causing dropped DSL connec...

We've had infinity 2 since the start of December (2013) and have had nothing but problems with it.  It frequently (5x a day atm) drops the connection, sometimes it fails to re-obtain the connection so does a full restart.
We had an engineer round who couldn't find anything wrong with our line, swapped us to another cable pair, but after a week of "stabilisation", the problems were still there.  We had a "new" home hub, which had been left using a test bench WiFi Id, so I suspect it was another faulty return they've given us.  It has been better - possibly 1/2 the number of disconnects, but still having problems.  We had another engineer round, who replaced the backplate on the BT socket with a new one, with better rated capacitor for filtering.  A few days later, not much better.
What I have noticed from the logs, is that the loss of connection frequently happens a few minutes (normally 2, sometimes 10) after the hub has blocked bogus (normally Chinese) remote admin attempts.  Is there another attempt they're making that kills it, or is there a potential bug in the firewall that trips the reset?

IN: BLOCK [16] Remote administration (TCP 211.75.112.37:61650->86.134.x.x:80 on ppp3)
It quite often drops the connection just after I have connected using my Android phone (which has no problems with any other device).
The log (before a reset) also includes bogus entries such as:
    09:08:18, 01 Feb.
BLOCKED 2 more packets (because of Advanced Filter Rule)
    09:08:17, 01 Feb.
OUT: BLOCK [44] Advanced Filter Rule (fw/policy/0/chain/fw_ath12_out/rule/0: UDP 0.0.0.0:68->255.255.255.255:67 on ath12)
Again, the firewall kicking in, just before a reset?  Coincidence?

Oh, the HH5 also makes a quiet whining and ticking noise if you stick your ear up to it - is this normal?

You still have the same fault but not with the OR modem. Sounds like the HH5's are faulty

  • Home Hub v1 non-responsive user interface

I haven't used the home hub for a couple of years, but because of ongoing IP profile problems I've got it out of storage to use in place of my Draytek 2600.
Using the internet works fine, but more often than not when I'm trying to configure application sharing, or fixed IP addresses, etc. the hub user interface just freezes and won't respond.  Only solution is to turn the hub off and back on.
Is there a fix to this problem of a non-responsive hub user interface?

    Yes, I believe it's a Hub 1.0.  It's white, and very old.

It says firmware version 6.2.2.6.  Is that the latest?
No, but it's the last version that allowed telnet access. Mine's locked to that version for that reason.
I do find the browser interface sluggish at times, but I don't use it much as the telnet/CLI allows for much more control and configuration.

  • Reading Area - Home Hub 5 - Performance and Phone ...

    Hi Folks
Looking for some advice.  Engineer installed Home Hub 5 on 29 Aug.  Engineer assured me that once the systems sorted themselves out, my speed would go from 15MB on installation to around 25MB
Instead of which speed dropped to 8MB and the Phone stopped ringing on incoming calls.  Called BT, sent an engineer who said it was the voltage thing at the exchange and he switched me to a different circuit.  Phone started ringing.  But still only 8 MB.
In addition, my wireless connections are fine, but my ethernet connection fails.  At which point, it seems I have to shutdown the Desktop (Windows 7 ) , and then re-start the Home Hub, and then switch on the Desktop - and it, more often than not comes back.  NIC drivers are up to date.
Today, phone rings continuously on an incoming call.  Incredible interference on the line.  Speed test shows...
8.04 MB from Exchange to House, 7.01 MB download.
Are these connected?  Anyone else had trouble connecting to Ethernet.  Any advice gratefully appreciated.

Two further things that might be relevant.
    1) The BT engineer who visited to mend the phone took the adsl filter of the socket. Said there was a built-in filter.
    2) I have a grey box on the outside of the house which the phone line comes into.  It's probably 20 years old.  There are wires coming out of that for extensions in the kitchen and a bedroom.  So the externsions do not come out of the Master Socket - if that is what the sub-contractor installed.
Quiet line test makes exactly the same noise
For all ADSL and WBC Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.

  • Gigabit switch and home hub

    Hi,
Can anyone with a similar setup let me know if this will work, I'm due to have BT installed next month and due to where the sockets are located in my house compared to the current Virgin setup I'm going to have to do a bit of re-wiring so was wondering if anyone knows if this will work.
Devices on my home network are in two main locations and I'm trying to minimise the number of long cable runs.
Could I have in one location:
    - The home hub and modem
    - Connected via cat5 a linux server to the home hub
In a second location I have
    - things like TV, media streaming box etc
Would it be possible to run a cat5 cable to a switch like this http://www.netgear.co.uk/business/products/switches/unmanaged-desktop-switches/gs108.aspx from the home hub
And would devices on the switch be able to see my linux box? My thinking is that the swich will autosense an uplink to the hub and let the hub provide things like dhcp.
Hopeing its not that mad a setup and someone has something similar!

There is no reason why this should not work but there are a few things to look out for:
    1. You will need a crossover cable between the hub and the switch unless either device supports auto MDIX (the ability to detect what is on the other end of the cable and switch to either crossover or straight as required).
    2. Speed and duplex issues are often an issue in mixed vendor environments. Setting everything to "auto" on both ends is not always the best bet as autonegotiation often fails. Best to "hard set" both ends to 1000 full duplex if possible.
As for the DHCP bit, assuming the stuff above is setup correctly then DHCP should work fine and your other devices should be able to see your linux server assuming you have setup the IP address correctly.

  • NAT TYPE 3 on PS3 using BT HOME HUB

Recently I have noticed that my NAT Type has changed from OPEN to STRICT on my PS3. This is causing problems when connecting to online games. Quite often I will not be able to connect to game, friends will not be able to connect to me if I am host and also I get signed off the PSN network randomly. This has only started happening recently.
I have read about this on other threads and it appears to be a problem with the BT HOME HUB. I have the older white version (not sure what model type).
Can anyone advise if BT intend to address this common problem with connecting to online games through a BT Home Hub?
It would appear that obtaining  NAT Type 2 from NAT Type 3 can be quite a tricky process. Again I would be grateful if anyone has any advice on how to do this and whether ti is worth trying.
If this issue is not resolved soon I may have to consider if I will renew my contract with BT as it would appear it is a recent upgrade to the BT Home Hub that has caused the problem.
I did not have any major connection issues until recently.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

try this mate,it was for my old bt205 but when i got my first hub i had to use these settings also.oh and another 1 to look for is in your hub settings 192.168.1.254 then go in to advanced settings and look at your network ( have your xbox on ) your hub should list the things connected to it,now pick the xboxlive from the dropdown box and pair it up this should always give you open nat,if it goes strict again unplug router/hub power line for 2 mins then reboot and reboot your 360.

  • BT Infinity Home Hub - Intermittent Fault Stating ...

I have an intermittent problem where the main home PC connected wirelessly often is unable to connect to the Home Hub and an error message stating that the settings saved on the PC do not match those of the hub.
This can happen (but not everytime) when: -
    The PC is turned on
The PC has hibernated and returned to use later
During use of the PC and internet
The problem can be overcome by restarting the hub, but this make take up to 3 attempts before the hub allows the PC to connect.
The hub has the default settings and nothing is ever changed on the PC, only restarting the hub clears the problem.
Time consuming and frustrating - Any tips?????
    Thanks

Sorry for the delay in thanking you.
I changed to wired connection and the issue disappeared for a while, however now although I can connect to the BT Home Hub and the device is shown as connected, an internet connection cannot be established and so I shall put this out as another post.

  • BT Infinity, Home Hub 5 and Vonage VoIP not compat...

    Hi
I have just (last Wednesday) switched from Sky Broadband to BT Infinity. I have a HH5 to which I wirelessly connect a TP-Link W8968 in wireless router only mode.  I have all this set up and it all works, but I cannot get a dial tone from my Vonage VoIP phone line.
It did come online for about 12 hours on Friday evening but has dropped off again.  It was plugged into the TP-Link router.
I have now plugged it directly into the HH5 to try to get a signal.
I have spent 4 hours on the phone with Vonage who have now told me (4th different person to speak to) after countless 'unplug it' and 'reset it' that the only way a Vonage line can operate with the HH4 and the HH5 is for all BT parental controls from within mybt.com to be deleted.  I have now done this but must now wait 2 hours to plug the Vonage box back in.
But, I need the parental controls for the children's internet use and do not want to have to delete them.
Surely there is another way for the Vonage box to work with an HH5?  It worked perfectly through my TP-Link with Sky Broadband.
    Any help gratefully received.
    Thanks in advance.
    Martin

Giving the VOIP device a static LAN IP address, outside of the DHCP range is best, as the home hubs will quite often issue different addresses via DHCP, and tend to ignore lease times. The fact that it worked for a while would suggest that maybe the LAN IP had changed.
This page should help with the settings.

  • Speed variations and needing to reset Home Hub

Hi everyone.  Just a quick post to say i have had infinity for almost 12 months and apart from the odd hiccup now and then i have been extremely pleased with the speeds and service
I recently upgraded to Infinity 2 just like many others and am now seeing the same problem that a few others have posted about....i.e. at seemingly random times my speed is dropping from approx 60 Mb/sec to more like 3 Mb/s.  If i reboot the home hub then the speeds immediately return to normal!!
Just wondering if anyone has any further info as to why this seems to be happening to myself and a few others.....( only happened since the upgrade )
Not a big deal really and i am still more than happy to be lucky enough to be able to get Infinity in the first place

Hey, a lot of posts on here have been about this very issue.
I still have to be 100% convinced it's a hub fault though, but getting a replacement can't hurt. Why am I not totally convinced?
Well, I can go weeks without any issues at all - no real heavy downloads, no p2p, no TV stuff, no films - my speeds hold up as expected given the IP profile - then suddenly, bang, down from 55Megs to 0.5 megs. My HH3 did it a few times before my upgrade to 80/20, but I have found that a simple internet disconnect and connect via the hub manager fixes it. You do notneed to touch the modem or power cycle the hub, just go in via 192.168.1.254 using your browser, find the right section and do as above.
We should not need to be doing this and I wonder how many HH3 returns are simply being recycled back out again? Otherwise I can see there being an HH3 mountain, much like the old butter mountains of latter days!
Keep us informed as to how you go on ... if it continues, how often does it drop speed etc. It all helps us build up a picture of what might be going on. Nothing sinister one hopes ;-)
    Cheers,
Rob (and have been stable for a couple of weeks now, no reconnects needed! And no HH3 change either)

Oh dear, so I wasn't the only one
I've been working closely with a hub manager (a person, not the hub manager), hlc and many more bods at BT. It does appear that I was sent a faulty hub which is currently being looked in to. You may not same issue, but you never know....
I started a thread about the hub3, but the relevant bit referring to disconn's is here - http://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/Inside-the-Hub3/m-p/167863#M3320

When I had my Netgear router in the house supplying the internet to us, I could control the TV with my iOS device and also using my SGS (Samsung Galaxy).
I could streem directly from my phones to the TV. Since I had the HH3 this isn't possible anymore. the phones just cannot see the telly.
The TV still goes online and that better than before due to the increased internet access speed, but we cannot stream to it anymore.
I put my Netgear back to see if for some reason it could be a fault with the TV but not, as soon as I had the TV connected to the latter it all worked again.
any idea what I need to do to the HH3 to get this all back working?

Sorry to crach this thread, I have a similar problem with a Samsung Smart TV.
I have a Home hub 3 type b.  I can log on to the internet through my tv, either through a cable or wireless, but i can't seem to get any data downloaded, in particular i can't update the smart hub with any apps, can't use the browser, nothing. I've signed into allshare so some data is getting through, but that's as far as i get.
I've contacted Samsung, but the 1st round of custmer service didn't know what to say and i'm waiting to hear from level two tech support.  I've posted on AV forums, but no one knows the answer there.
Any ideas?  I've done full resests on the smart hub, the tv and the home hub. It could be a faulty TV...
Further questions, if it doesn't work with either wifi or an ethernet cable, would getting a new router (say the ASUS RT-N56U) help in any way for the TV to be seen properly, or is that purely to improve wireless signals?  My computer sees the TV as [TV]UE37ES6300, but the HH3 just shows this  udhcp 1.18.1-VD Linux VDLinux. 1C:5A:3E:7C:22:AF Connected.  IS that right?
Is HH3 the problem? Can i completely get rid of HH3 and buy an new modem or is that the only way to access BT Internet?  I want to upgrade to Inifinity when it arrives here in December as my internet speed at best is 13mbs, often only 5mbs, but regularly drops to 0.5mbs on busy nights.  Not much good for watching anything online... I'm only 600m from the exchange. Does that sound right?
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    Thanks.
