Bt Home Hub (fibre optic) can it work with my Time Capsule & Airport Express?

I have just moved house after having no problems for years with my virgin cable I have now had to switch to Bt because cable is not available at my new address therefore I would like first and foremost to have my Time Capsule available to use as a hard drive, I am not too bothered about wi-fi as that comes from the bt hub, only thing is I am at a loss how the Time Capsule hard drive is not working. Also is there anyway the Bt Hub can connect/link to Time Capsule or even Airport Express.

Your TC can be used bridged to the BTHub.. and plugged in by Ethernet.
It is best to still use the TC wireless for the express to extend and you will find access easier.
Always best to start with a factory reset when you do this.. The TC remembers too much from its last configuration.

    What have you tried?
You are going to get nowhere quick with the 6.1 utility in Mountain Lion if this is the only OS you have available.
Look up how to install 5.6 utility under ML. At least then you can see printers. That is assuming you are trying to use USB.
Has this worked ever on Mountain Lion? Did you download the drivers for that printer for ML?
Plug it into a computer directly.. does it work? If it doesn't work locally it sure will not work via the network.

  • Time Capsule-AirPort Express-WDS not working together

According to everything I've read here, I've configured this properly, but it doesn't seem to be working. If anyone can help me troubleshoot this I would greatly appreciate it.
I have a new Time Capsule acting as my main wireless base station; it has a manually-configured static IP address, is plugged into my Verizon FIOS router, and is set to distribute IP addresses over wireless using DHCP. I have it set to run a 5 GHz network in addition to the regular 2.4 GHz network. I have an older AirPort Express that I want to use to extend the range of the 2.4 GHz network (the Express can only do 802.11b/g, not 802.11n), in part because we have some older devices in the house that I don't want to slow down the 802.11n network, and in part because the 802.11b/g signal doesn't reach all parts of the house very strongly. So I told the Time Capsule to make its network extendable, told the AirPort Express to participate in a WDS network as a WDS relay, and entered the MAC address of the Time Capsule's 2.4GHz network as the WDS main. Result: flashing amber light on the AirPort Express, which no longer shows up in the AirPort Utility; I had to do a hard reset in order to get the Express back (and then it had to be reconfigured again, of course). At the moment I have it just joining my wireless network, and that works -- green light -- but of course doesn't allow the Express to extend the range of the wireless network.
What am I doing wrong here?

Before there was dual band, we always told users that if they used WDS, the entire network would revert to "g", even if the Time Capsule, AirPort Express, etc were capable of "n" performance.
Your findings seem to confirm that this happens with a dual band as well.
I think it's well worth it to get the AirPort Express 802.11n. Then you can reconfigure the Time Capsule back to "Create a wireless network" and check the box to "Allow this network to be extended"
The Express"n" would then be configured to "Extend a wireless network". I use this setup and would highly recommend it. There may be a slight bandwidth loss due to overhead, but the performance is light years ahead of WDS.
If you are using the same network name for both bands on the Time Capsule, then I believe by default the Express will extend the 2.4 GHz "n", "g" and "b" band. This makes sense for most users since 5 GHz signals do not travel well over distance or penetrate obstructions well.
IF...you want to extend the 5 GHz band, the only way that I know how to do this is click Wireless Network Options on the wireless setup page for the Time Capsule and enable the option to assign a different name for the 5 GHz network.
Then you will have to configure the Express to extend this specific 5 GHz network. I never had much luck extending 5 GHz, and I wanted my iPhone to be able to use the network across the house, so I went with the simpler one network name for both bands and extended the 2.4 GHz network.
If you have a "g" device joining the extended network, it may tend to slow the "n" devices down slightly...when the "g" device is active, but it won't drag everything down to "g" levels. When the "g" device is not active, "n" devices will run at "n" speeds.
BTW, the ethernet port on the AirPort Express is active when you configure it to "extend a wireless network". This can come in handy for hooking up DVD players, etc that need an internet connection for firmware updates and extra features.
Follow up....I tried a very quick reconfiguration of my dual band AirPort Extreme (same router that the Time Capsule users) and AirPort Express using the WDS arrangement and everything did indeed drop way down in speed and performance.
Post back if you have questions. Happy to help.

  • How do I set up OpenDNS to work with my Time Capsule running 7.7.3 in Bridge Mode?

How do I set up OpenDNS to work with my Time Capsule running 7.7.3 in Bridge Mode?

Set up your "main" router to use the OpenDNS servers, and the Time Capsule will automatically pick up those settings. No configuration is needed on the Time Capsule.

  • Can TS work with sql server compact or express?

I'm don't have much experience with the underpinning of database systems.  I know conceptually how they work and can hack my way through sql queries.  Is there something fundamentally different about a Sql Server Compact itnstall versus Sql Server versus Sql Server Express?  Can TS work with any of them with a proper connection string?
My problem is at our local site a previous employee set us up on Sql Server and wrote a web app (.asp) to do the query for presentation on a web page.  At an offsite location they can't install Sql Server and I'm trying to figure out the best path for them to be able to use the same .asp tool we have.  My gut feeling is the .asp tool is probably set up such that it wouldn't take much to make it work with MySql but because I don't have the luxury of time I'm hoping someone can point me in what they think might be the easiest direction (whether that is sql compact if possible or MySql for them).

    Hi,
TestStand works with SQL server express. (not sure about SQL server compact).

  • Photosmart C4780 won't work with new Time Capsule

All of our household machines (2 MacBooks and 1 iMac) worked just fine to print wirelessly to our HP Photosmart C4780 with our time capsule, 1TB. The hard drive on that failed, and we replaced it with a new 2 TB model. Everything runs fine off the new wireless network except for the printer. The printer is not hooked to the Time Capsule, and I don't want it to be as it's in an odd location. The printer worked just fine before, off by itself in a corner, not hooked to any computers or Time Capsule. We are running OS 10.8 on 2 machines and OS 10.6 on another. I've read every troubleshooting article and community post I can find, trying everything, and no luck. I've restarted everything. I've reset the printer network settings. I've deleted all printers from the computers, but in every case, the printer cannot be detected on the wireless network. I run the Print & Scan utility in System Preferences, and the printer is not located. I run the HP Setup Assistant, and it can't find the printer. If I hook it up via USB to any machine it works fine, and I even tried running the HP Setup Assistant to setup wireless via USB, and that can't find the wireless network either. The Time Capsule is on all default settings, exept I changed the name and  password. Neither has any special characters. I tried the suggestion of channel 11 and that didn't work. I printed out the wireless network test report, and the Network Name (SSID) Found diagnostic failed. I printed out the HP Network Configuration Page and it says network Offline, URL for embedded web server is http://0.0.0.0, and the 802.11 Wireless status is Disconnected. At the bottom where it lists the Number of 802.11 networks discovered, my home wireless network is at the top of the list. I know wireless is enabled on my printer because I've disabled and enabled it, plus the blue light is on above the wireless icon.
I cannot think of anything else to try and I'm about to launch the printer out the window! Please help in any way.

You're close. After opening Airport Utility/TimeCapsule/Edit, look at the bar at the TOP of the page for Airport Utility, not at the top of the inset box. That Base Station drop down has the WP Printer option. I'm using 6.3.2. Try that.

  • I can't connect with the Time Capsule.

    Hello everyone,
Some years ago, I bought a Time Capsule. Until now, I didn't want to use it as an extern HD.
    So I tried today.
I am using it for a year now, as main router. Several computers and iDevices are using it.
Because I had forgotten some things - and I hadn't wrote it down - I decided  to reset it and configure it again.
Since then, the internet has become slower - and I my Macbook pro can't connect to the Time Capsule's disk.
In Finder's everything fine. Left, under 'Shared', I can see the Time Capsule as a HD.
When I click on it, I see: "No Connection". Then I select "Connect As", and I fill in the Time Capsule password.
It tries to connect a few minutes, but then I get the message:
"The backup disk could not be found. Make sure the backup disk is connected or open Time Machine preferences to select a different backup disk."
In the Airport Utility, there's a green light.
*My firmware has the newest updates
    *I am using Snow Leopard
*I am using newest update of the Airport Utility
*Since reset, internet's fine but a bit slower.
    Other Questions:
*Can I use my Time Capsule for other things than only Time Machine (backup)?
*Can I divide it in parts? (Backup, User)
*Can I backup multiple devices on it? (Macbook Pro, iMac, Macbook Air etc.)
    Hope you can help me!

What actual model is the TC.. the A1xxx number from the rubber base mat???
As they age they become unreliable. Some earlier and some at 3year mark.
It greatly depends on the setup of the existing network.
I would recommend a downgrade in the TC firmware.. as with Snow Leopard there is no advantage to you in the later firmware.
Go to the airport utility and select firmware update.. hold down the option key when you make the selection and all the previous versions available for your model will come up. I recommend using 7.5.2
Do another reset of the device. This time a full factory reset.. and start the configuration again.
Ignore update to firmware requests.. turn off the reminder.
Set all names to SMB standard. short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric. TC name, wireless names, hard disk name.
For wireless I recommend you use wpa2 security with 8-12 character passkey.. pure alphanumeric.
Set to manual for radio channels and test 1, 6, 11 in turn for the best.
Depending on the broadband you use, the TC must be in router or bridge mode.. tell us more if you need help for this.
If you think the TC is slowing you down, do a test with direct connection to the broadband modem and give us the speed comparison.. direct and via the TC ethernet or wireless.. tell us which though.. wireless will always be slower than ethernet.
If you have issues still with the hard disk it might need some work.. older models the disk might need to be erased .. please open any time machine backup and run a verify.

    Other Questions:
*Can I use my Time Capsule for other things than only Time Machine (backup)?
Yes, but the TC is designed primarily for Time Machine.. if you store files, there is no method in the TC to back up those files.. do not make them the only store.
*Can I divide it in parts? (Backup, User)
You cannot partition a TC .. not without removing the disk. You can create a disk image.
    Q3 http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
*Can I backup multiple devices on it? (Macbook Pro, iMac, Macbook Air etc.)
You can use multiple devices with TM. Be aware you need lots of free space for this to be successful. So you need to add up the total you want to backup on each computer.. and at least double it.

  • WiFi no longer working with new Time Capsule-can you help please?

    Hi all,
Just received my new Time Capsule (TC). It was a little problematic setting up, but probably due to my now choosing to increase my security from WEP to WPA as the TC set-up assistant suggests. Since then, I have had numerous problems getting my other computers and now my iPhone to connect with WiFi.
The problem is that despite entering all the new settings and WPA passwords for my connection with the TC, the iPhone will either momentarily recognize and go to wifi or simply stay on Edge.
On the former, with wifi active, as soon as I go to iTunes, Safari or check email, it reverts to Edge. On the latter, despite resetting, entering password, or tapping Settings and selecting my wifi connection, it will NOT connect and stays on Edge.
(Now, I'm on Edge! I'm bummed that with new hardware I have new problems that didn't exist before!)
Can someone who had this same problem tell me how they resolved it.
Here's the one clue I have, but would rather not resort to: When I first set up the TC, I had it on WEP with a WDS Network, and everything was working great and FAST! Now that I have increased the security—I will be backing up 3 computers to the TC—my iPhone and other computers seem to have intermittent or no wifi connection as a result.)

    Irving Gonzales,
If your computers are 802.11N capable, you might want to try an advanced setup that might help your Time Machine speeds some. I have not personally tested it, so it is just a personal theory at this point.
First, in a mixed environment the 802.11N clients all get slowed down.
First, configure the TC for 802.11N only.
Second, connect the Airport Express via ethernet to the Time Capsule
Third, configure the Airport Express for bridged mode (doesn't give out IP addresses), and for its own wireless network with a different name than the Time Capsule.
Have any 802.11b/g clients like the iPhone join the Airport Express' network.
    Thank you,
    Nathan C.

  • Apple TV. Can it work with quick time or VLC player?

So I like to download my media from other sources that Itunes usually.....
Can I stream video from my Mac to Apple TV opening the "film" with quicktime or VLC player?
Or do I need to get the content into Itunes first to watch it on the main TV, that is connected to Apple TV?
    Thanks.....

There is an alpha program (as opposed to a beta) called AirFlick here http://ericasadun.com/ftp/AirPlay/ which is suppose to stream vid from your mac to Apple TV. I've not tried it yet but have downloaded the program. I used her other alpha program AirPlayer which works most of the time to stream video from iPhone/iPad to my laptop or desktop computer.
Here is her blog with a demo video http://www.tuaw.com/2010/12/20/airflick-turns-macintosh-into-an-airplay-data-ser ver/
Also not sure if it works with DRM vids.

  • Wifi Working With New Time Capsule But Can't See It To Configure Settings?

I had an airport extreme but recenlty purchased an airport time capsule. When I initially plugged it in, by airport utlity saw it and it asked me to set up a password. But then I noticed there was no internet signal getting to the time capsule. We wound up replacing the DSL Router and now the internet is up and running. But now when I open the airport icon, the time capsule doesn't even show up. When I open the airport utility through finder it shows the time capsule but blocks me from accessing anything. So I can't go into any set up configuration for changing passwords, setting up guest network or setting up the back up to the time capsule. I don't see any downloads for a new utility for the time capsule, so I'm assuming it's the same as for the airport extreme? What do I need to do in order to be able access the configuration areas?

Reboot the TC.. it is hard for poor OSX to find it.
    No luck.
Just press reset and start again.
Do a new clean setup.. please use all SMB names this time, short, no spaces and pure alphaumeric.
Ensure ipv6 is set to link-local on both the wireless and ethernet if you use it. Wireless is essential even if you use ethernet you cannot do setups without wireless.
    Still got trouble??
What is the OS on the computer and therefore version of the airport utility.. you will have huge problems with Mavericks.. as that is its nature.

  • Qwest Q100 Modem + Time Capsule + Airport Express = only wireless working

I have been reading other similar topics and havent quite got the exact fix I am looking for.
Goal: I have qwest DSL, i have a Qwest Q100 modem from them, it has one ethernet port, i have that port going into my TC, and the TC being a wireless router, I also have a slingbox(ethernet), directv receiver(ethernet), and xbox(wirelessly) connected to the TC. On another floor, I have an airport express connected to the TC extending the network and ethernet coming out of it into another directv receiver(id like to add a ethernet switch to this and add another slingbox and blu ray all via ethernet) I also plan on adding another airport express in the basement and hooking up similar items via ethernet.
Problem: NOTHING thats hooked up via ethernet works, everything hooked up wirelessly works perfectly.
I have the dsl/ppp login details from qwest. I am assuming from what I am reading I need to bridge and make the TC control the ppp login.
the TC sees the items connected, as does the Q100. but no data what so ever via the ethernet ports on the TC or the APE, but the APE extends the wireless network perfectly.
I am basically looking for what I need to do on the Q100 and what I need to do on the TC for it to work with the wireless and the ethernet all over.
Thanks for any advice and help! I Greatly appreciate it!

would i be better off with the wireless model they offer?
It would simplify things a bit. I did not check the specs. I doubt that it offers dual band wireless, so you'll probably be turning the wireless function off to use the Time Capsule wireless.
the only mention i can find in the modem is "ipoe transparent bridging" in relation to bridging or anything of that sort.
The simplest form of bridge mode is probably what you need. It will take some experimentation unless some other users have done this before you and happen to see this post.
it seems like it may just be easier to get their wireless modem, plug into it directly for ethernet items
    That will work
qwest is of little help, i get "we do not support networking" responses when i talk with them.
Expect zero help from any provider. All they want to do is say "everything looks good to the modem. After that, we have no responsibility for anything".
run the TC off of it instead of as a wireless network, and make the airport express extend that modems network instead of TC's?
The Express will only extend the TC's network. It's not compatible with the other wireless router for this purpose.
is that practical at this point?
It's an option and there will always be plusses and minuses. Plus is easy connectivity. Minus is that you won't be able to use the Guest Network feature of the TC if you were planning to use that feature. I'm pretty sure the TC will have a far better dual band wireless section, so you probably won't use the wireless at all on the provider's device.
If it were me, I would try to make bridge mode on the modem work. Then you'll have all the options available on the TC. I run things that way here, but don't use Quest, so can't comment on their modem.

  • How many devices can i use with the time capsule?

When I said devices, I mean iphone, ipad, macbook and imac

Out of the box, the Time Capsule will support 50 Wireless devices and 150 Wired Ethernet devices.
You can add capability for another 50 Wired devices for a total of 200 if needed.

  • Please can anyone help with a Time Capsule query?

I'm setting up time capsule and a home network.  All the lights are green and my pc laptop has joined but my iPhone4, iPad and iMac haven't.  The iPhone settings tell me it has joined and the wifi indicator is there.  Any suggestions?  What have I missed?  Everything has been turned off and then turned back on again.  Thanks Moss and Roy!

OK, thanks. I suspect that the cable modem has associated itself with your PC and is looking for it, not finding it, and not allowing the Time Capsule to connect.
If this is the case, the remedy is this:
Push the reset button on the cable modem and then power it off
If there is no reset button, simply pull the power plug on the modem
Pull the internal battery in the modem if it is easily accessible
Leave the modem powered off at least 15 minutes, 30 is better
Power off everything else on the network, all devices, order is not important
Make sure that the ethernet cable from the modem is connected to the WAN (circle of dots icon) port on the Time Capsule.
Start the modem (install the battery first if you pulled it) and let it run by itself for 3-4 minutes
Start the Time Capsule and let it run a moment or two
Start each device one at a time the same way until everything is powered back up
    Check for proper network operation.
If still no luck, open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the Internet icon in the row of icons
Settings should look like this on the Time Capsule if your modem has a single ethernet port:
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address
    Update to save settings

  • Time Capsule + AirPort express don't work together

OK so I have my Time Capsule running, I plug in my Airport express and AirPort Utility software doesn't see it. You know why?

My Time Capsule and AirPort Express work fine together. The TC is connected via ethernet to my iMac, but the AEBS is meant to be my printer server/AirTunes outlet. I basically plugged in the AEBS and used AirPort Utility to locate the device. Once in manual setup, I clicked wireless and connected to my existing TC network. If your TC is set to NOT broadcast the network name, you will need the exact name and the network password including the security scheme (e.g. Apple Network A12B34, mysecretpassword, and WPA/WPA2 Personal). Once restarted, AEBS should connect to your exisiting network. If a past attempt was made to access AEBS wirelessly and you did it incorrectly, it's likely you won't be able to access the AEBS unless you do a hard reset. To do a hard reset, have the AEBS plugged in and use a pin to press the reset button until the light flashes, then release and try using AirPort Utility again.

  • Will HP Designjet 500 work with Apple Time Capsule?

I have an Apple Time Capsule Base station and was wondering if it would be able to allow my dad's Dell Precisions (M4500 and M4700) to print to it wirelessly. We had a part of our basement finished for his new office and his plotter (HP Designjet 500) is outside the office, about 20ft away from both his laptops and my Time Capsule is on a shelf just above it. I'm just curious as it's an old plotter from like, 2001 so its old.

Really don't know but it is worth a go..
Simply plug the printer into the TC via its USB port.
On the PC load the airport utility for windows, whichever version he uses.. but the latest version utility is 5.6.1 for win7. That will also load bonjour for windows which is a big help to using network resources like printers.. you can then use the airport utility to make sure the TC has picked up the printer.
Then load the printer and have a shot at printing.
    Suck and See.
