BT HomeHub unknown device connected

I have been having serious problems with my internet and wi-fi recently. Firstly, about a month ago I kept on being told there was a redirect loop in every browser. I could only fix this through using an Ethernet cable. Now, every website I go on has ads and 10+ pop ups from one site called 'unideals'. I have never visited that site so I need some help please! Also when I go on my HomeHub 4 manager, it says there is an unknown device with a strange MAC address. Help!

If I could get you the MAC address, would you be able to give me an idea of what the unknown device could be?
This website should help.

Its not been updated for a while, but you can usually find the vendor.
There are probably other websites which do the same. Just do a Google search for something like "MAC address lookup"
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • Amazon Q&A: E1200 - Shows unknown devices connected

E1200 shows unknown devices connected I recently bought my first router. My question is that it shows multiple devices attached. When I chect the DCHP table it shows only my pc. Is there something I don't understand?

Where do you get the info telling you that you have unknown devices connected to your router's network? Make sure to enable the wireless security of the router. Use WPA2 encryption. With wireless security enabled, it will ensure that no one else can connect not unless you provide them the wireless security code.

Unknown device connected to my iCloud
    Problem:
Graduated from high school and returned my Macbook pro for school.
A student is most likely to have my old computer now.
I can track the computer via my new Mac through the Find My iPhone. I see that the person's computer is connected to my iCloud. I have the option to lock it, erase the contents and probably he has the same with my current Mac.
Most likely, the person is not logged out everywhere on his computer where there are connections to my Apple ID or iCloud. This is the IT staff at the school's fault, they are responsible for the reset of the computers before new students receive them.
Background on what I, in agreement with the one who has my old computer, have done to try to solve the problem:
    Changed my password on iCloud.
    Reset -II-.
    Updated Find My iPhone.
    He factory reset his computer.
He has logged out of iCloud, he believes.
I locked his computer before I knew who he was. He called the number I wrote which came up on his computer screen. After the conversation, I gave him the unlock code because he doesn't have any incentive to abuse the situation. He didn't know about the iCloud clutch at all, he doesn't even have his own account.
He can not access any system settings that affect iCloud Apple ID because he is not an administrator. Do you think this is the reason that I still see the computer connected to my iCloud?
    The conversation we had:
[...] = my own marks made in connection with this post
ME: Well, hope you've entered the computer [after he restored it]
HE: I am about to restore it
I: Okay. So.. here, I see you [sends picture of map of his house with the green dot, radar, marking his computer]
HE: Hmm .. I have logged into my friend's iCloud too ..
ME: Have you entered the computer yet? Strange, but since I changed the password on iCloud, you should not be logged in again after you once log out
HE: Entered and entered, it's on anyway. Aa very weird because I am logged into someone else's Apple ID too. But is the content on my computer synced with your?
ME: I don't understand how you can be inside two Apple ID accounts at the same time .. Our is not in sync I think. Is your locked or?
HE: No, now I have factory reset it so everything should be normal soon
ME: Okay, suppose you disappear from the map after you log out via the system settings. Sry for all the jam, but basically it's the IT staff's fault this
HE: No problems, aa do it as soon as it is programmed.
HE: So, I'm logged out from your account. What's the deal with you now?
ME: Should check out what a friend has to say. You are still connected to iCloud
ME: Do you have any "Find My Mac" settings
HE: Shall see [sends picture that says "System settings wants to make changes to the Find My Mac. Enter an administrator name and password to allow this". This he cannot do because IT staff are admins]
HE: Can't. IT guys are the admins and we have school holidays now haha
I: Have you tested your login details
    HE: What do you mean?
ME: The information you type in when you log on to the computer
    HE: Aha no I'll test
    HE: Doesn't work
ME: ****. Then it's the admin who can do what is needed to solve the problem.
HE: I will contact them then

Are these shown as connected via ethernet of wifi?
Could you possibly disconnect ALL devices bar one laptop, refresh the hub manager home network page and reconnect the other devices one at a time, refresh after each device. You should then find the guilty devices.

  • Fix for "Unknown Device" when the iPod is connected

After a few long nights, a few headaches, hours and hours of reading, thinking and many toasted sandwiches, I finally found the problem to my iPod not loading. Putting together information I had read here and at many other sites I had a brainwave... and sure enough it worked. I figure this may be helpful to many other iPod users, so... here I am posting my solution. Note though, this wont help all users, but I know I wasn’t alone with this issue, and this just might help someone.
I’ll list the issue I was having (this may help other people identify their issue to mine) was that the iPod failed to work on windows, and threw a fit when plugged in. Windows did too, iTunes would lock up and the iPod software failed to recognise that an iPod was connected. The iPod had worked on an older PCs before, but it failed to work on my new homebuilt PC. When I first connected the iPod it began to work, transferring and updating.. but then it unexpectedly disconnected the iPod.. and mentioned something to do with an I/O error, the iPod had to be disconnected and it also mentioned something to do with a timeout error and dataloss (or as it put it “Data has been destroyed”. That’s always a pleasant message to read). Suddenly, half the music on my iPod wouldn't play, it skipped songs until it found a song it would play... really annoying. I tried to format the iPod using the iPod software... buuut it told me that it wasn’t an iPod that was connected (Funny that... lol). After the first iPod crash, it would react differently when connected. It would once again pop up with the “Found new hardware” bubble, “Apple iPod...”, “Disk Drive...” ... then iTunes loads... then iTunes freezes... then the iPod disconnects 2 mins later, then iTunes unfreezes. THEN the next time the iPod is connected, it would say it was an “Unknown device”, and that it has “Malfunctioned”.
It seems that, oddly enough, my iPod (I own the 30gig iPod Photo) does not like USB 2.0... I’m thinking that it must not support some of the device commands the PC is sending to it... Weird though, because on other USB 2.0 PCs it worked fine. (I got the best results out of Dell PCs...). IF USB 2.0 is disabled and slows to USB 1.1 the iPod works a charm... jumped up without an issue in the world. To disable USB 2.0, jump into BIOS as your pc is in its POST stages... this being, when the PC is first turned on and presents a message such as “Press DEL to enter setup” (or something similar), do so. Then refer to your manual on how to disable USB 2.0, if possible. Apply the changes and reboot. Be sure not to mess around with other settings, it is very easy to mess up your computer if you change settings you are not familiar with.
Other solutions would be to run the iPod via Firewire... if you can get a cable. Run along to your local mac store and see if they have one in stock. I’ll get back on here to post if using Firewire solved the issue later.
Perhaps a motherboard BIOS upgrade, or newer drivers could resolve the issue. This may explain to some people why their iPod stopped working overnight after working fine for so long, maybe an update of the sort was installed. Apparently my motherboard already has an update, so I’ll test that sometime and post my results as I investigate further, but as for now I’m just happy my iPod is working, even if it is taking ages to transfer (25 gigs of music takes awhile over USB 1.1 lol...).
Also, I might add that my motherboard is an ASUS P5P800 with the Intel 865PE chipset. It could be an interesting pattern seeing which motherboards do not seem to be compatible with the iPod at USB 2.0 speeds.
As long as this post was I hope that someone gets some use out of it. I’ll post further findings as I investigate this matter further.
    Happy iPodding!

    hi Jazza!
the best explanation for this that i've seen is that there can be power drain problems in USB 2.0. drop below 500 mA running through the port and everything goes to pot. this may well explain why switching back to USB 1.1 sometimes works like a charm, and also explains why it's important to have the ipod plugged into a high powered USB port rather than a low power port.
i've seen a confirmed case of a USB connection going west after a scanner got plugged into the beast in question ... periodically i see other reports along these lines, too.

  • "Unknown Device" shown when I connect my iPhone 4 to the laptop

    Hi all,
My iPhone 4 cannot synchronize to my Windows 7. Only "Unknown Device" shown on the "Device Manager" when I connect them via the cable.
The laptop is new and installed Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit. BIOS is the latest one.
iOS is 4.0 and iTunes is 10.0.1 for 64-bits Windows 7
I do not think the problem is due to the iTunes. Only "Unknown Device" shown on Window 7. I think the iPhone cannot be recognized by the laptop.I tried to connect the phone to a Window XP. It is fine. Likewise, a usb drive is recognize by the Windows 7 laptop.
    I have tried
    1. update the BIOs
    2. Re-install the itunes
    3. download the usbaapl.sys
Can anyone help as it bother me for a week.
    Thanks very much
    Ben

The first thing I would try is to use a different USB port
next I would have my MacbookAir looked at

  • "Unknown Device" appears when ipod is "connected"

So I just bought an ipod yesterday. I took it out of the box and i followed the instructions and hooked it into my usb port on my computer not keyboard. The ipod did not connect and my computer did not even register that anything is hooked in that port. I'm finally able to get it to register about once every 20 times, and when it does it says unknown device and that there are no drivers for it. A message also appears saying a device has malfunctioned and cannot be recognized. The ipod is not charged as it doesnt connect to my pc so i cant even turn it on to follow the 5 r's. What should i do?

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to update automatically. If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage music and videos" in the iPod preferences. For more detail see this tutorial: Managing content manually on iPod
One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod

  • Help - How to stop Bluetooth on BB10 from repeatedly trying to connect to unknown device

    Hi,
So about a week ago I was trying to connect my Q10 to a Bluetooth speaker. In the process of this (and rather stupidly) I tried to connect to some unknow device that is not mine (nor was it the bluetooth speaker). I quickly deleted this connection. However my Q10 now constantly asks me to enter a "numeric passkey" to connect to this unknown device. I've tried changing the Q10 Bluetooth name, my "discoverable" option is set to off and I've deleted ALL saved Bluetooth connections, but my Q10 keeps beeping at me asking for a passkey. Short of a factory reset how do I stop this happening? It appears (to me at least) that something in the Q10 still thinks this is a valid device and wants to complete the connection.
I have unchecked "Connect to the last device when turned on" and also turned off rSAP Mode (whatever that is).
I work in a congested area with mutiple companies very close so have no option to go find the device (it only bugs me as I drive into the carpark and I am at my desk).
    Software version is 10.2.1.2122.
thanks in advance for any help to stop this as Bluetooth is basically useless right now for me at work.

If you put in 0000 as passcode, does it pair?
So a follow up to this (and using the question you asked). Taking the question about can I connect I did connect to the device again and then turned "Handsfree Calling" off in the Device Details. This seems to leave the device present, but unconnected. It is no longer bugging me, which is something. I'd rather not have it present at all of course, but that seems to be hard!
I'd appreciate your thoughts on this as a long term solution?
    Many Thanks,

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

  • "FireWire Unknown device" - but nothing is connected!

    Hi everyone,
although I have no FireWire devices connected, System Profiler keeps showing an "Unknown device - maximum speed 400 Mb/sec".
Seems like the FW bus retains the memory of something that was connected at some time, but I cannot reset it. I ran through the suggested "unplug everything, shut down and wait 30 minutes" method, with no positive results.
Problem is, my Avid Mojo will not run if it thinks there is anything else connected to the FW bus.
Anyone have any ideas on how to reset the FireWire bus?
    Thnks a million!

    Hi Roberto Servera-
Did you look with everything except mouse unplugged?
Have you tried removing any PCI cards if present?

ive got an iphone 4s which worked fine before i upgraded to ios 7. now it is stuck at the activation screen because it keeps telling me my device is unknown. i have tried activating it over wifi and through itunes but no luck, itunes tells me that there is a problem with the device and to contact a service centre. it has an active sim card in and all worked fine before, now i have a very expensive paperweight and im getting very annoyed. apple want £25 just to talk to me which i am not paying as i think its ridulous that i have to pay for thier **** up. does anyone have any adive or had this problem before?

Ok I just got pass the error CONNECT TO iTUNES and UNKNOWN DEVICE. I can not gurentee this will work for anyone else. This is what I did and it worked out:
    CONNECT TO iTUNES error
    1. I removed the sim card and put the device on charge for several hours, the display switch between the Apple logo and the connet to iTunes logo.
    2. I launched iTunes and connect the device to the computer while the display was on the Apple Logo (not connet to iTunes logo).
    3. I put the device in DFU while still on the Apple logo.
    4. I forced a deliberate error while attempting to restore by selecting a older iOS firmware (iOS 6) and click restore (I got the error, maybe this step does nothing but things changed from here).
5.At this point the device remained in DFU mode and restored to the current iOS 7.0.4 firware.
    UNKNOWN DEVICE error
    6. After restore the device went into searching, at this point I put the the sim card into the phone
    7. Select Language and Country, the device error Unknow Device (this might be as far as you can go).
    8. I took the sim card out and let the phone rest.  After an hour or so the device completed the search and read No Sim.
    9. I put the sim card back into the phone  and the phone activated.
I tried evething online and nothing worked. This is what worked for me. Hope this helps, good Luck!
