BT hub & Sky On-Demand

Hello - and Help!
Have BT Hub2 and wireless connected Sky+TV, all worked well since connection (7months) until 3 weeks ago, On-demand has just stopped. Nothing untoward happened that I am aware of. Our iPhone, iPad and Kindles are fine - hub is working with everything else. BT can't find an issue and have tried, and second Sky engineer came out today - new box tried and hard wiring the connection - still didn't work. One point of note - engineer couldn't get onto our Wifi on his iPad or phone, nobody else 'new' has tried, all our devices have been around pre The Trouble. HELP! We have tried all rebooting, unplugging, resetting password, back-ups, updates, changing broadband channels etc. Sky has left and BT has tried, has anyone any thoughts? Would a new Hub help? Thanks in anticipation.

  • HH4 and Sky On Demand

I'm having trouble with Sky On Demand so I thought I'd try here having exhausted the Sky forum. I have no problems at all with every other piece of equipment that is connected to the router apart from the Sky HD box, hence trying over there first. I've connected it via homeplugs but the problem is still there if I use the wireless connector provided by Sky. Downloads take forever, literally several hours for any HD broadcast and not much better in SD. For instance I am currently downloading a 30 minute HD programme and it's on about 5 percent after 40 minutes, size of file is approx 1.3gb. Is there anything I can try in the hubs settings to try to resolve this? Speed is excellent for ADSL at around 16mb download and just over 1mb upload. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Is this any help, as I think it also applies to the HH4?

  • Continually having to reset sky on demand connector

I have just reset my sky on demand wireless connect again.  Following the instructions usually gets it working again, but why does it keep happening?  It needs doing on at least  weekly basis if not more often.  Very frustrating when you are tired during the evening and just want to watch TV - only to find you are not connected to on demand yet again. Does anyone else find this and is there a way to prevent it and get greater reliability?

Caesarome, Thank you for the links.  Unfortunately my Hub is a Hub 3, not a Hub 4 and is not a dual band one, so that won't fix my problem.  turning everythingoff and re-booting does solve the problem (although sometimes it takes  a few gos) but I just wonder why it keeps dropping out in the first place and if there is a way to prevent that.

  • Broadband goes down when using sky on demand

we have bt broadband, sky on demand wi fi connector and also netflix/bbc i player/you tube through our dvd player. we find sky on demand very slow to download and frequently lose our broadband connection to the pc/laptop when downloading. this occasionally happens whilst viewing netflix etc through our dvd player. any thoughts please - sky have sent us a replacement on demand connector but it has made no difference

can you run btspeedtester and when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post results
    btspeedtester
if wifi dropping then you can try downloading inssider3 (istumbler if MAC) and then run it. This will show the broadcasting networks round about you and their channels including your own. If you then enter your router and change your wireless channel to a free or less congested channel.

When i wake up my iMac from sleep my wifi is disconnected.  It also disconnects my iPad, my wives iPad, my iPhone & Sky On Demand which is connected via wifi. To reconnect all devices i have to switch off & then on again wifi on the iMac. Can anyone help?

Had the same issue and finally solved it.  After the upgrade to Mavericks our 2 new Macbook Airs stopped connecting automatically to Wifi while the older machines the kids had still worked fine.
Bought a new airport extreme and problem solved.   Our Airport Extreme was about 5 years old and was probably not compatible with the new OSX.
BTW this was after trying everything people suggested on this forum and a 4 hour marathon tech support call with Apple where we reinstalled the OSX.
***** to need to spend $200 but glad the problem got solved.
New extreme is also mega fast so its all good.

  • Sky on demand not working

Hello please can you help. Our sky on demand service has stopped working. It always used to work, we have downloaded programs etc in the past. Network setting say failed to connect to our sky router. We use an Ethernet cable. If I connect the same cable to my Xbox we can access online content so doesn't appear to be a problem there. When we use either the Xbox or sky we used to unplug cable and connect to the desired device, not sure if this affects anything? Is it possible to turn the Ethernet plug on the sky box off? we have tried sky's online help of turning router and box off etc, no good.... all help appreciated, thanks Dan

Try resetting the connection, go to Settings > Network and press select and then the red button, sometimes it can take a few presses of the red button to get it to work.
If this hasn't worked remove the ethernet cable from the back of the box that goes to your router then plug it back in after 3 minutes.
Something else to try is to reboot your sky box at the mains, after powering it back up wait a further 5 minutes before using the box again.

  • Sky on-demand

    Hi all, newbie here.
We moved from Sky back to BT two weeks ago for our broadband and signed up for Infinity 2. In general speed has been ok, just done a speed check and a disappointing 11mbps, but normally around 30mbps and once had 73mbps.
However, the first time we tried catch-up or other on-demand on Sky it is painfully slow, and I mean slow. Previously you could set a show to download, within lets say 10 to 20 seconds it would pop up and tell you it was available, and you could start watching it but now it doesn't come up at all to tell you it's available, and as an example it took me well over 2hrs to fully download a 1hr programme. It's effectively become completely unusable other than for downloading to watch the next day.
We have two Sky+ boxes in the house and it's the same for both of them, and they are both hard wired into the BT Hub 5 as they were previously with the Sky router.
    Any suggestions please?

  • BT Infinity, HH4 and Sky On Demand

<reposted from original in BT Sport>
Has anyone managed to successfully connect a Sky+HD box by Ethernet to the BT Home Hub 4?
I keep getting Local Network and Internet FAIL on the Sky Settings>Network menu (Reset and Manually configure).
According to Sky the router has to be LLC-based for multiplexing.  Does anyone know if the Home Hub 4 (or HH3 for that matter) is LLC-based?
I have connected my old ADSL2+ Netgear router locally by Ethernet to the Sky box and this is recognised in the Settings>Network page as a local network (the Netgear is LLC-based by default).
This is very puzzling because the Home Hub 4 did connect with the Sky Box momentarily at the first attempt.  Sufficient time to designate a static IP Address and Mac code exchange.  Since then it is not recognised.
    I have tried ..
    enabling DHCP on the HH4
putting the Sky Box address in the DMZ
    disabling the firewall
    rebuilding the Sky Planner
system reset of the Sky Box
manually configuring the Sky Box (192.168.1.76; 2555.255.255.0; 192.168.1.254; 192.168.1.254) for IP, Mask, Gateway, DNS.
    All to no avail ...

    Hi DS,
I tried that but I think I am looking in wrong place as LLC-based is a configuration of ADSL.
The problem appears to be on the network routing side rather than the modem.
The Netgear defaults to an address range of 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.254
    The HH4 defaults to 192.168.1.64 - 192.168.1.253.
Perhaps the Sky Box expects the range offered by the Netgear?
I there any technical reason why I cannot configure the HH4 thus ...
    Gateway: 192.168.0.1
    Network Range: 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.253

  • EA6500 - Sky On Demand LLC-Based Multiplexing problem

    Hi,
I believe this is a fairly common problem.  I have fibre broadband with a UK provider.  They supply a BT Openreach modem and a fairly basic router which I've replaced with the EA6500.
According to reviews the EA6500 was pretty good although it did require a bit of online support to get it up and running to provide a stable and reasonably strong signal.
I recently got a Wireless MINI connector from Sky TV to access their On Demand programmes.  The connector does connect to the router without problem but no content is available.  After variable and mostly poor customer support from Sky it would seem in the last month or so the problem with a number of routers has been resolved by setting the multplexing setting from VC to LLC-based.  It would appear this is not exclusive to Cisco/Linksys routers.
Unfortunately it would seem that there are very few advanced settings on this modem, which is disappointing, but there is no way to even try the LLC setting.  Is there a workaround / setting / alternative that anyone more knowledgable could suggest?
I must say I bought this router for improved performance and the Cisco brand was appealing.  Aside from the good customer support, I will certainly be looking elsewhere next time as this quite expensive and supposedly superior product has been problematic from the moment I bought it.
    Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks for the reply geekychix, much appreciated.
I don't think it's an issue between a wired versus wireless connection.  Settings are pretty much as you've suggested and in the past there has been no difference between wired/wireless connection and I doubt this is the reason why.
It seems I am not the only one with this issue.  The suggestion from Sky, only in recent months, has been to switch the multiplexing setting from VC to LLC.  This seems to work for many people like me who have been given the runaround.  As far as all other devices iPods, iPads, android phones, laptops etc, all working fine. This is probably the first router I've bought with such limited admin settings, which given the price and supposed ability, is not very useful.  Also the 5Ghz signal is suprisingly poor but works....after much tweaking.
Therefore the one last thing to try is changing the multiplexing settings.  Since this cannot be done on this router I wondered if there is any alternative as opening ports, fiddling with MTUs etc is best left to the experts!.  I'm guessing not but I'd have to go back to the old crappy ISP router and essential stick a £100+ router in the bin.

  • SKy on Demand on Infinity

Just had infinity fitted but my SkyHD+ box won't connect.
I'm using Powerline connecters into the back of the hub and the SKY box - this worked perfectly with the old hub.
BT are blaming SKy - Sky are blaming BT!!
    Can anyone out there help?

have you tried restarting the hub and the power lines

  • Hub 4 Repeatedly Demands Set-Up of Parental Contro...

I've recently started using a Hub 4. It works fine, however whenever I, or more usually a visitor, connects a device to it for the first time (typically wirelessly) the user is unable to browse until they have fought their way past some parental control set-up pages.
When I first started using the Hub 4 I went through the same process - reluctantly - using my one and only machine, and thought that was it, for the Hub, for the remainder of eternity. It is very annoying for people using other devides to have to repeat the process and I was wondering whether other users have had the same problem, whether there is a way of avoiding it in future, and whether the behaviour manifested is the result of a bug, or an ill-considered design feature. Incidentally sometimes I have had to input my BT account user name and password in order to get the parental control screens to go away.
    Thanks in anticipation.

Many thanks for the last posting. As you correctly anticipated the problem was that Smart Setup was turned on, and I have now turned it off.
I don't think I'd have worked out the solution very easily myself. The existence of this, er, facility isn't obvious, and no manual was provided.
By the way, the forum applications may not be working correctly: despite checking the 'Email me when someone replies' box no such e-mail arrived :-(.
    Thanks again.

  • Black Hub, Sky Fibre - Orange solid face

    Moved to Sky Fibre Forum

If they have found a fault on your line that would have reported this to BT Openreach to come out and fix it. Unfortunately Openreach are the only ones that are allowed to carry out the repair so both you and Sky are in their hands I'm afraid.

Should be no reason why you cannot connect.
Is there a reset button on the connector.
You can get the instructions from Sky here:
    http://help.sky.com/tv/using-on-demand/set-up-on-demand/preview
From that page you can alsp download the user instructions
But more likely just wants a reset on the Sky On demand connector rto pick up the new settings.

  • HH2 & Sky wireless On Demand box loss of connectio...

I used to have no trouble downloading via Sky On Demand using the wireless box back to a Home Hub 2.
Virtually every time we try & download via On Demand it fails after a while resulting in my other wireless items (tablet) losing connection. My main PC is wired.
When i go in the Sky settings it reads:
    Connection to Broadband Router OK
    Connection to On Demand FAIL
Running a cable from router to Skybox is not an option although i do have one of those powerline extenders for use with my Smart TV.
    Why does this happen?
Did wonder if there is not a fix to use the powerline extender used for my Smart TV to connect to Skybox instead as we rarely use Smart TV functions.
Just desperate to be able to use On Demand again

If the two are next to each other, then simply add a cheap Ethernet switch at the end of the powerine adapter link, as shown in this example here.
    http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/networking/powerline3.jpg
You will have four ports you can use, so you connect the TV and the Sky box, and still have two spare ports.
