I've tested

  • New update failure

Hi - my BT Vision+ box just spontanously rebooted and has not worked since. This happened about 1 hr ago - the helpdesk said this is happening to lots of customers.  Is this a dodgy update or am I just unlucky.
Not keen on a factory reset but as I cannot get into the BT Vision menus it doesn't seem like I am able to do this either.
    what is going on?

Also told me that putting the Vision box into port 4 (gige) on HH3 will speed up connection to internet and less noise,
That advice sounds like nonsense to me.
    See  http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32322/kw/gigabit/c/346,1887,1888
    (1)  The Gigabit port is designed to be connected to other devices that support the Gigabit protocol and also have a Gigabit port. I don't think the BT Vision+ box is such a device. If connected to a non-Gigabit device the port should just act like a normal 100Mbps port.
    (2)  An HD TV channel over Infinity requires no more than 10Mbps. This is a tenth of what the normal 100Mbps ports are cable of handling. Even watching one channel and recording another shouldn't anywhere near approach the limits of the 100Mbps ports.
    (3)  Most customers are on an FTTC Infinity package with a maximum connection speed to the exchange of 40Mbps or 80Mbps. So how would connecting to a 1,000Mbps port in your home rather than a 100Mbps port make any difference to the overall transmission of the channels from BT to your BTTV box? Your package doesn't support those speeds anyway.
My BT Vision+ box is connected to port1 (100Mbps) and works perfectly with all SD and HD multicast TV channels coming over my Infinity 1 (40Mbps) connection.

  • Serious speed loss on infinity all of a sudden

    Hi,
Any advice welcome - My infinity download speed has dropped from 40mb to just over 6mb since yesterday. Upload speed has remained at 10mb - I havent made any changes to my equipment. Are there any reported issues - nothing I can find on the website about system errors.
I have made a call to the helpdesk but after following all the generic tests I am being told theres no errror - shall I post the results of the bt speedtester so someone can have a look?
    Hopefully someone here can help!
    Many thanks,

  • BT Infinity Speed loss

    HI to all
I have been very happy with my infinity up until two weeks ago! i noticed that my speed has dropped down from an avererage of 36-38 MBs to 13-14 mbs
i called BT on friday last week and was told that, due to BT trying to upgrade the speed of infiinity off of my exchange, it had caused a fault there by decreasing the speed of it, the advisor said it will take about 5 days to fix and not to call back untill atleast sat 18/06, as calling back before will wipe out the call log created by calling him??
does this sound right or have i been fed one,
    I live in Chippenham wilts,

if that is the repair status shown on the website then that should be all the information that anyone else will have just a matter of waiting for the 18th

  • BT Infinity and loss of caller display information

I have BT Infinity installed on my telephone line and getting some good results with speed.
However, ever since I have had this installed I have had intermittent issues with my cordless phones displaying caller display information.
Where as before the BT Infinity installation I uses to receive either a telephone number or the name of the person (if stored in the phone memory) now I am receiving 'unavailable'  atleast 50% of the time..
Has anyone else got this issue or has managed to solve the problem?
It cannot be a reset issue as I have wifi issues and restart the HH once a week or so!..
    Thanks in advance
    ickle1999

    Hi Ickle1999,
Welcome to the forum and thank you for posting. There is nothing in the Infinity Broadband that should stop your caller display from working correctly. It could be a case that the numbers that are showing up as unavailable has simply been blocked by the person making the call.
If you would like I can run a few tests on your line. Please could you drop me an email with your BT account details and link to this thread. My email address can be found by clicking on my profile.
    Cheers

  • BT Infinity loss of connection and problems connec...

I am writing on behalf of my parents who have BT Home Hub 2.0 Infinity. They have had the Infinity package for about 2 years and only recently started suffering problems with connections and dropouts.
my mums imac has trouble connecting via WIFI and sometimes have to restart the WIFI connection on the machine. also intermittently various ipads, iphones, laptops, macbooks try and connect and sometimes fail to do so
this doesnt happen all the time, but regular enough through the day to cause problems
there has always been an imac, laptop connected and 2 x ipads
more recently extra ipads, and macbooks have started to connect to whenever spouses are round the house
i dont think it is a problem with two many devices as at any one time we can have macbook pro, imac, laptop, 3ipads and 2iphones connected and never seem to have problems
and the disconnections occur sometimes when only the imac is trying to connect
would really appreciate any help with this, let me know if you need any more information
    thanks

This could be a problem with a neighbour having a new router or changing wifi channel to conflict with yours.  Install inSSIDer (base version free on PC) or iStumber (free on Mac) to check out what channels are in use and what the signal strenghts are.  I don't see why that should only effect the iMac: maybe its got slightly poorer wifi.

  • Loss of Sky Sports 1 since signing up for Infinity

We changed over to Infinity as BT told w e would have to - otherwise we woukd lose access to our Sky Sports1 and ESPN channels. Since July 1st we have lost access to Sky Sports 1. We have spent in excess of 2 hrs now on the phone to BT trying to get this resolved. They tell us we should have it ? However no one seems able to sort out this issue. Why is it so hatd to get it resolved ? Is anyone else experiencing the same issues ? I feel like we have been conned by BT - they promise all these extras when you sign up for Infinity - however the reality has been different. I would be grateful if someone could suggest a way forward.

Sorry, I was in a rush this morning and didn't have time for a considered reply. As umpire indicates, this sounds like the wrong software on your BTTV box. I'm away from home at the moment, but from memory go to Help & Settings > Settings > System Information. The Middleware details should include 512 (or 256) followed by Multicast. If it doesn't say Multicast you won't get the broadband channels, including Sky Sports. (You won't get ESPN anyway until BT Sport is launched on 1 August.)
If that's the case I would go back to Sales and ask them to get it fixed. Call 0800 783 0056 and make out you want to order Infinity until you get to a human voice. Then explain you've recently upgraded to Infinity to retain your Sky Sports channel(s) on broadband but can't get them and have discovered that your software hasn't had the necessary update.
Be prepared to be told the only way to fix it is for them to re-order SS, a pain in the butt though probably best to go along with it. That's what happened to me, though in my case I already had the Multicast software and they went ahead and removed it! You couldn't make it up.

  • Re: Serious speed loss on infinity all of a sudden

A couple of times a week my upload and download speed via Wi-Fi drop to a snails pace. Normally I get 30Mbps download and 7Mbps upload. Often on a Monday morning I get 0.1Mbps both up and down on all wireless devices, the connection is reliable but unusably slow. I can solve this by connecting a laptop via Ethernet to the Wireless router or by rebooting the router. I logged a call with BT on this but of course when you run their wired test it responds OK so they are not interested. I have run Wi-Fi analysers on the area and switched wireless channels to and solve but the problem just seems to come back every few days. A faulty router maybe but why does it work OK 90% of the time and then stop out the blue. Any ideas appreciated !!

A WiFi analyser cannot detect other devices that use the 2.4GHz band, like video senders, which can blot out many wifi channels.
You should be able to find one channel out of 12, which works best. Do not rely on Smart Wireless, as it can only choose three channels

  • At a loss, BT can't seem to fix my problem.

I don't know if anyone else has any suggestions but I'm at a loss here.
We've had nothing but endless problems with BT over the last 4 months and I'm simply lost now.
It started when me and my girlfriend recently moved into our new ground floor flat early January and an engineer came round to set up our infinity connection (we moved it with us, had absolutely no problems at last address). He got the internet working and said someone will be round later to fix the phone line. The engineer came round and fixed the phone line but in doing so, broke the internet connection and then left. We then tried to arrange visits from various engineers, none of which actually showed up. I was even told on 2 seperate occasions that "the work will be done without anyone having to come into the property. Someone is actually working on it now" which I found out later to be a blatent lie as no one had been booked to come round. An engineer finally came out to fix our connection 11 whole days after it was initially supposed to be connected.
Unfortunately, that was only the first problem. Now, whilst the internet does work and we do get reasonable speeds (35/10 wired) the connection will drop anywhere between 10 seconds to an hour at a time at random points during the day, mainly at peak times. This will result in the DSL light on the white OpenReach modem flashing or going out completely or, since we upgraded to HH5, the light turning Amber/Orange. As someone who works from home and also enjoys online gaming in my spare time you can imagine how frustrating this can be and is starting to have a negative impact on my business. BT seem to be at a complete loss as to what the problem is, although they'd never actually admit this.
These things have so far been ruled out:
Our hub was upgraded to a HH5 with the builtin modem (not a hub or OpenReach modem issue)
    All wires have been replaced.
Phoneline from the flat has been fault checked which it passed.
The OpenReach socket (the combined DSP and Phonline one) has been replaced and upgraded.
Connection has been completely restarted several times.
I'm not too good with the technical side of things but I did notice in the HomeHub settings that I'm getting a Noise Margin of - 12.8 / 17.6. That isn't good, is it? From what I can tell it should be around the 6 mark? Could inteference from someone else's flat be causing these problems?
EDIT: Oh, just thought I'd add that the actual phone line has been crystal clear the entire time with no crackling or dropouts.
EDIT 2: Something I've just noticed: When my line is stable and working correctly, the first value in the Noise Margin drops significantly (currently hovering around 3.6 / 17.1). This is indeed starting to look like the problem.
After spending roughly 4 hours on the phone to BT in the last 4 months (they REALLY enjoy putting you on hold and moving you between departments) I've given up and refuse to call them again.
This is my last ditch attempt to get my problem fixed and any help at all anyone can provide would be very much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance.

  • New Infinity Install - Dialup Speeds ...

This morning, I had Infinity installed by BT, although it was ordered through our ISP, a local firm who I've bought internet connection and services from for years - they have some sort of proxy deal with BT, and so actually my broadband has always been a BT service.  However, the supplier, after checking recommended the NetGear N600 Dual Band Router, and I see that quite a few people here and on other forums are using 'non-standard' routers, and clearly they work.
We got off to a shaky start this morning, which turned out to be no username and password in the router.  Fixed that.  Got a connection - slow at first, then managed to get to 8.6Mbps up and around 16Mbps down - I was told 25Mbps down and 10Mbps ... that's what it says on my order confirmation.
The line is confirmed at 38Mbps.
But through the day the speed has dropped to near dialup rates, and most of the day I've been getting an uplink of around 120kbps, as reported by YouSendIt after it took 15 minutes to send a 12Mb file.  The web is slow - pages are refreshing in slow motion, and email is sluggish.
Speedtest.net reports 0.12Mbps both up and down.
This is an entirely cabled setup, by the way.  Yesterday I was still running my ADSL ... and frankly I wish I still was ...
I'm told I'm in the settling down period and have to wait 10 days ... but seriously, speeds this low??  Is that normal?  I might expect them to wander between fast and medium, but not to drop way below ADSL.
My work is screwed and my supplier tells me he can't do anything until the 10 days are up.
But I'm here asking if anyone has any ideas about this?  Configuration of the router?  Anything!
I did a BT Speed Test this afternoon, and oddly that reported the line at 35.35Mbps down and 8.86Mbps up ... the performance, however, is nothing like this, not even close ... genuinely Speednet seems to be telling it like it is, not BT ...
I'd appreciate any help at all, because I'm in a bit of fix now.
    Thanks.
    Julian.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Haha!  Well, at least that made me smile!!
The company I use is a family company, a tiny company really, quite local, and they have had my business since 1994, so there is a high degree of trust and reliability, and they generally deliver a good service and great tech support.
But, they are new to this system - they said that yesterday, and unfortunately will likely be at the mercy of BT Wholesale and whoever else.
More unfortunately, my current work, my livelihood, is suddenly in jeopardy because of this.  So it's a fraught and difficult issue suddenly ... and one in which I don't want the 10 days excuse thrown at me.
Settling down with middling to high speeds is one thing, but here, something is badly skewed, I agree.
Well, thanks anyway for your attention ... when and if it gets resolved, I shall post here so hopefully some other poor soul may get some help from it!
    Julian.

  • New Infinity Installation. No internet connection ...

    Hi.
Had Infinity installed on Thursday afternoon and was initially impressed with 40Mb+ download and 15Mb upload speeds.
However, at about 5.30pm webpages stopped loading. Rebooted the HomeHub3 and was ok again for about 15 minutes but then nothing for the rest of the night.
Internet was back the next morning but same thing happened again last night until about 11.15pm when it was back as if nothing had happened. Whilst there is no access, the HomeHub shows 3 solid lights. It's like there is a connection but its so slow that webpages time out. Tried using wireless connection and wired through Powerline adaptors. Also tried connecting directly to the router.
So for 2 nights out of 2 I've had no access to the net which is obviously not acceptable. Can anyone suggest anything that I can try? I will have access to a new router later today so I will try using that.

Hiya - same thing has happened to me - go BT Infinity2 installed last Tuesday, all ok 48mb down 9+up until Fri 18th May when it dropped out and was v.slow. No internet until Saturday 19th during the day. Then 40+mb ok until 2330 Saturday 19th dropped out log shows CWMP:session connect host failed - again no internet until Sunday 19th - a call to 0800 111 4567 remedied the situation with "a fault at the exchange - working the the exchange" then I got 48mb dowm, 9mb up until.... 2330 on Sunday when the signal dropped out - like you, SensiBlue, three bluse lights and I can ping a server so theres a connection,  but the log again shows CWMP:session connect host failed and CWMPSL certificate error. No internet again all night - a further call to tech help merely resulted in the response than an engineer will come to my house - in four days time! to see if its a fault on my line. This hardly seems likely as I can ping out, and the line was checked - just 6bB loss only on Tuesday. I have tried a new router too - no difference. This intermittent fault seems to be fairly common on the forums too. Anyone got an idea? Like you say, SensiBlue, its not acceptable.

  • New Infinity advice please?

    Hi,
Looking for hints/advice to ensure I get a smooth install of Infinity please.
Currently I have two lines, one of which is on BeThere ADSL2 which I would keep for a short while after BT Infinity install, then drop.
The other line I would use for BT Infinity and currently it is just a voice line (hired from BT, calls with TalkTalk).
The master socket is in the hallway (traditional setup), with various extensions all round the house. BT checker is indicating 62mb/20mb on Infinity2 for this line.
Main computer is in dining room (no phone extensions) which currently connected to the BeThere hub/router (which in a different room) via 500mb Homeplug and all works just fine. Other computers/Ipods/devices connected via either Homeplugs or WiFi. Occasional IP address conflicts on network, but usually easily resolved.
What would be my ideal setup for BT Infinity?
I'd rather not have a bunch of new cabling, but recognise that I may have to.
I'm thinking the following could be some good setups.
    1. Infinity Hub and Router in Hallway by master socket and then data pumped into network via Homeplugs.
Would the Infinity engineer be ok with this, or would he (maybe a she?) insist that main computer is also located by Master Socket?
    2. Infinity Hub by Master socket and Router in different room.
Here I imagine that the router is connected to the hub via Homeplug/Ethernet. Again would the engineer be ok with this?
    3. Master socket is moved from Hallway to computer room.
This would have the advantage of the hub, router and main computer all being located in the same place.  However I'm not clear if this can be done as part of the Infinity install or has to be ordered separately. Also I’m concerned about messy cabling.
What I want to avoid is arranging for things temporarily (e.g. moving computer) on the install date, having the engineer declaring all is ‘OK’ and then later, if there is a problem, for BT to say I’m on my own.
Let’s just say twice bitten in the past by BT/Openreach and three times shy.
    Thanks for any help
    Edward

Oh, I have plenty of homeplugs and indeed Ethernet cables. My concern is if the engineer says he will not work with the homeplugs when doing the Infinity install.
Sadly I have bitter experiences with BT/Openreach. One time they got me to open a broadband account for purposes of being a Fibre trialist when they should have checked that my faceplate was not compatible. They did compensate me a bit financially (after a great deal of hassle) but I still ended up with losses.
It is a great pity that BT/Openreach still have an effective monopoly on Fibre.
    thx
    Ed

  • New Infinity customer help please.

    Hey all
I had infinity option 2 installed today after 2 weeks of extreme excitement waiting for it. It was installed at 12pm and everything was great with speeds of 37mbps dl and 10mbps ul, but then as it got a bit later the speeds have seriously dropped, its now at 8mbps dl and about the same up load. The engineer told me that the speed should definately not drop at peak times and that I will have 37mbps all the time. Also Im trying to download a tv series from utorrent which I was really looking forward to doing with my new connection but the speeds will not go above 2.0kbs, Im starting to regret this already. Any similar experiences ? or solutions ?
By the way my set up is Smart tv and laptop connected wirelessly and ps3 connected with ethernet.
    Thanks alot in advance.

To get an Idea of your speed profile can you run http://www.speedtester.bt.com/
Preferably wired direct into the router/HH3 and no other activity/downloading etc going on.
And we can see what your IP is set to at the moment.
    For example mine is.-
IP Profile for your line is -38717 Kbps
Download speedachieved during the test was - 36616 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 12000-38717 Kbps .

  • New Infinity User/Speed Question

Hi All, I`m another newbie in here and also to the Infinity BB as well.
So Hello and Good Evening to you all. :-)
I had my Infinity installed on Monday Afternoon without a hitch I am pleased
to say and I have been lurking on the forums reading up over the last week
or so checking out the pitfalls and wrinkles I am likely to encounter.
I know this is an on going chestnut on here from all that I have read but when I
was given a over the phone (by a nice BT lady employee) speed test (I have had a new line installed
before getting Infinity) I was told I would get 37.5 meg down and over 8 meg upspeed of which I
    was obviously happy and impressed.
When the young man did a speed test on Monday I got a creditable around about 32 meg so that was fine.
I have been testing since then on and off and a few times its got back to 30 and over but mainly in the 20s
    and teens.
Tonight I did a test at about 20:06pm and got just 6.96 meg down what is that all about?
The Up speed had been mainly around 7-8 so I down have a problem with that at all but what about my dowload speed, the homehub is wired into my PC.
What do you suggest I do next as I dont really fancy waiting until the 10 days as it seems a bit convenient that date I am committed for 18 months!
Any help will be gratefully accepted.
    Andrew.

"Is that 15 sync or through put ?"
To be honest, I don't know.
I have been hovering around these forums for a couple of months, since Infinity came to my area, not sure whether to change over or not. I was forced into a decision when informed that my ISP was closing down (UKOnline), and I could move to Sky with 6 month free broadband. As I detest the whole Sky/Rupert Murdock organisation ........ here I finally am, on Infinity
Sorry, strayed a bit from the topic there. During this 'hovering' period, I swear that I've seen a post stating that 15 Mbit figure, but I cannot remember where it is, so cannot confirm or quote it.
Perhaps, based on the Speedtester results output, which states :-
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 12000-38717 Kbps
That it maybe the sync speed rather than the throughput. Either way, they are BOTH low, if true .....
    Cheers
Edit: @Monkey - I would regard sync speed as the speed negotiated between your router/modem and your ISP, and the throughput the actual speed OBTAINED when transferring files, taking into account the overheads of the protocols/methods used (losses)
Throughput always being less than the sync speed
When i was on ADSL2+ I would knock off around 15% for losses (overheads). So if I synced up at 12 MBits, I would expect to a get throughput of around 10.25 Mbits'ish, and this usually was the case. 12Mbits - 15% (1.8 MBits) = 10.2 Mbits. This 15% figure may not be relevant to Infinity, I would hope it would be less, but don't know.
