BT Infinity 2 Link speed issue

Hello guys,
It's the first time I'm posting here so I hope I'm doing everything correctly.
I have BT Infinity 2 with the new Home Hub 5 since May. I live quite close to the cabinet, so my link speed has always been the maximum achievable (77.8/19.8). Real speed on 75/19, quite impressive.
I have never seen any sync issues, disconnections or sync rate dropdowns. Not until today.
This is ADSL checker for my number.
Since about a week, I've lost about 10 mbits. These are the current BT Hub details. Looks like I've been downgraded on "Impacted".
Is there any way to check my line and see if there are problems or stuff like these? In 3 months has been perfect!

Hi,
My line is stable so does not loose sync, plus I usually do not turn off the Hub overnight.
I did that on friday night, and left it on since saturday when I woke up (very late). Nothing has changed...
The BT Speed Test also shows an horrible upload speed, that however is not true. On Speedtest i manage to get 63/18, with a slighlty higher ping than usual. I've always managed to get 75/19 (or more)

  • BT Infinity connnection and speed issue

Last saturday (1 week ago) My internet went off for a couple of hours. It came back on around 9pm. then every day for the next week my broadband went off some time in the afternoon and came back on around 9pm. I checked the service status and there isn't any problems in my area but my broadband kept going off. I tried the call centres but i may as well just ask my cat what is the problem.  Now when i run a speed test im getting 18mb download and only 2mb upload. How come its dropped speed so much. When i first started with Bt Infinity i was getting 45mb download and 20mb upload, it dropped after a few weeks to 26mb down and 10 upload. Its been at this speed for months but now its dropped to 18mb down and 2mb up, which i am not happy with, why is this. I havnt changed anything in my house setup and i allways use wired connection. Thanks in advance for any help

If the disconnects have stopped your line will now be seen as being stable and the DLM will start to increase the speed again. This can take up to 3 weeks to get back up to where you were. If you are still getting disconnects you will need to establish what is causing them. This could be anything from a problem at the exchange, the cabinet or your line. As long as the problem is not within your property then BT should check it out and repair free of charge. If the fault is within your property there will be a charge.
It is therefore in your own interest to eliminate problems within your own property.
If you are still getting disconnects then take a note of when and what happens when this happens... does the modem go off, does the homehub go off,  do lights flash on either modem or homehub, is it just wireless or ethernet etc etc. This will help to try and diagnose the problem.

  • Bt Infinity 2 Sync Speed Issue

    Hi
I hope someone can point me in the right direction after hitting the stonewall which is the offshore BT telephone support.
I have had Infinity 2 for 2 years plus and for the majority of that time the router was generally syncing up at approx. 50-55mb. Over the last six months this has arbitrarily been chopped back to 48-49mb, then 44-45mb and on simply moving the router and powering it back up this week another drop of 5mb to approx. 39mb. Putting a filter direct into the socket today to test that has now made it drop to approx 37mb.
This never seems to remotely recover to anywhere near the speeds I had for a long been receiving.
I have done the quiet line test using the 17070 and it seems perfect to my ears.
The horrendous BT telephone support won't move from the party line of: "your point of line speed was 37mb and we are delivering that so you are within acceptable levels of service for your connection". To the point that the only option they give is to put a formal complaint which I sense is completely pointless.
The data throughput has always been great but is obviously directly related to how fast the router is actually syncing up at.
Have the Home Hub 5 attached at the moment to see the sync stats.
    From today:
The router is connected via a BT Openreach master socket. Have tried using a filter direct, changing dsl cables, using the old BT Openreach modem and WAN port. Have even tried a Asus DSL-N66U router which for some reason would only sync up at about 30mb.
Is there anyway to improve the speeds again or am I stuck with the "you getting what we guaranteed at point of sale" line?
    Thank you.
    Andy

With those speeds, it could be financially advantageous to downgrade to Infinity 1 as your line will not support Infinity 2 speeds, or at least, not enough to be paying the extra for.......

  • New Infinity User - Reduced speeds

    Dear all,
As a fellow BT Infinity user, I thought I will share my experience with you.
I got my BT Infinity option-2 (unlimited) installed on 27/09/2011 with a white box modem and Home Hub-3.  The BT Engineer said that I should get approx. 33.9mbs downstream and 8.6mbs upstream (as stated on my BT order) and would take up to 10days to achieve this speeds.
When we did a speed test using a wired connection on http://speedtester.bt.com the reading was approx 15mbs downstream and 7mbs upstream. When I queried the less than half downstream reading, once again the BT Engineer said it would take up to 10days to get the required speeds. Then we did a couple more tests and the line speed was ranging between approx. 11 – 19mbs downstream and 5-7mbs upstream.
I then called the BT broadband support and updated them with the speed issues and once again I was told to wait until 10days and I’ll get the speeds specified on the BT order confirmation. So I waited for 10 days….
Now 10 days have passed and nothing has changed. I have already done several speed tests (wired connection) and logged my results with BT. Called BT support and they say to wait for another 10days and the speeds will increase.??
My speeds are still raging between approx. 11-19mbs downstream /  6-7mbs upstream.
I have read some forum suggestions to contact the mods. Is this (contact form) the right form to fill in and send to the mods ?
    With kind regards,

Yes that's the correct form, include a link to this thread. A Mod will respond in a couple of days.

  • MSI RD480 Neo2 : HT Link Speed

I've just discovered the HT Link Speed limitation in the current 3.2 bios for the MSI RD480 Neo2 and was wondering if MSI is able/going to fix this issue? and add if possible the 2x,3x,4x,etc HTT links??
Previously this was not an issue since i had an AMD Athlon 3400 (with an AMD set 4x HTT multiplier), this created a HT link of 1,000Mhz when running my cpu/memory to 250 mhz. However with my newer X2 4200 which is factory set at 5x, I'm hitting the HT max mhz limit pretty quick..
For the moment i can set the HT Link from Auto to 200, however the limited bandwidth is really chocking the system.
    Regards,

    Thanks for the reply Bosskiller.
In the RD480 3.2 bios there are only two options for HT Links. Auto and 200...  (it's interesting, the popup menu gives the feel that there was plans for more options.)
From my testing, "auto" seems to take the HT speed burned in by AMD. (800 HT (4x) or 1000 HT (5x))
I've dropped the cpu divider down to x8 on the x2 4200 (11x factory) and the memory divider to 166 speed (i've ran this pc4000 at 250mhz ddr with this exact mb, just with the single core 3400 (800 HT 4x) cpu. But just to take them out of this issue.
    (auto)
    215 = 1079.4
    220 = 1104
    225 = 1129
    230 = 1153.8
235 = bios hard lock... (cmos reset)
    (200)
235 = 235 (boots just fine, currently running prime on the cpu's.)

  • Upgraded Mini: Link speed = 130Mbps, Transmit rate = 65Mbps

It was a long night last night.  I finally upgraded my old Mini (Late 2006) with a compatible Atheros AR9280 wifi card.  It's already been upgraded years ago to 2GHz C2D, SSD, 2GB RAM - running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  So wireless-N is really the last thing to do here.
Installed easy enough.  Recognized and connected to my AEBS (2nd gen.) - but only at 65Mbps transmit rate.  No matter what - apparently.  Network Utility reports Link Speed at 130Mbps possible.
    My network:
    AEBS (2nd gen): 2.4GHz N-only, WPA2, Can't go to 5GHz - my tablets/phones not compatible, and AEBS (2nd gen) is not dual-band.
LAN-connected: Mac Mini Server (2010), Windows 8 laptop, and my NAS.
WLAN:  Windows 7 laptop, above Windows 8 laptop occasionally, 2 pads, 2 phones, and the old Mini in question.
All of the above achieve transmit rates at 117-130Mbps depending on where I'm positioned (except the weaker phones and pads).
Here's what I tried and discovered last night:
    [thinking it's interference/distance/signal problem]
    1. Positioned the mini 6 inches from AEBS - increased signal to -22, but still 65Mbps.
[thinking it's single vs multiple data stream problem, so then...]
    2. Connected the bluetooth antenna as secondary antenna on the card - increased signal, but still 65Mbps.
[thinking it's antenna problems, so then...]
    3. Used 2 antennas from parted laptop.  No change.
[thinking it's a problem with the wifi card, so then...]
    4. Installed the card in an old Windows 7 laptop, installed drivers - Transmits at 130Mbps!!!
[thinking it's a router issue with Macs only, so then...]
    5. Turned on wifi at the newer Mac Mini Server (2010) - Also transmits at 130Mbps!!!
[thinking it's Mac OS "registering" my card capabilities as the old 54g card somehow, so then...]
    6. Installed fresh 10.6.8.  No change.
[thinking it's driver compatibility issue with "IO80211family.kext" version 3.2 (in 10.6.8), so...]
    7. Tried the Lion and Mountain Lion versions of kext above (edited as they don't natively see the AR9280) - Not compatible - No card found.
[thinking that a beer would be really good to clear my head, so...]
    8. Beer, followed by sleep.
So the card is fine, antennas are fine, router setup is fine (at least for all other machines).  It must be one of two things:
A: MacMini (Late 2006) hardware limitation of some kind - Although I have seen others with this upgrade online.
    B: Driver/kext issue.
Anybody brave enough to take a stab at this?
    Respect -

Thanks for the effort guys -
Tried these two suggestions at the same time, by disconnecting all wireless devices, and setting the AEBS to 11n 5GHz only, and rebooting AEBS and the Mini.  Auto channel is the only option in 5GHz - and it chooses channel 100.
    Same story: 65Mbps
I'm onto another theory now - The card is not an Apple branded Atheros card, although System Profiler accepts that it is (see above screencaps).  It has the same chip, but not the same branding.  Note the "Card type" is reported Airport Extreme (0x168c, 0x1c71).  In other reports I have seen the second half should be 0x8f for the AR9280 card.
What also bothers me is that "Locale" is "Unknown".  On the original 54g card it was "FCC".  Perhaps this prevents the card from using its full capabilities?
But the main issue I can't get my head around is that in other failed upgrade efforts I have seen while searching - their card is just not recognized or unsupported, etc.  My card works - but not full speed.

  • Right, MacBook Pro 17" early 2011(Built March) and my new OCZ sata III 6G not working, when is Apple going to admit there is a problem with the Intel's 6 Series Chipset. In System Information it says "Link Speed: 6 Gigabit" which is sata III.

My MacBook Pro 17" early 2011(built March) and my new OCZ sata III 6G are not working together, when is Apple going to admit there is a problem with the Intel's 6 Series Chipset. In System Information it says "Link Speed: 6 Gigabit" which is sata III and in my MacBook Pro it does not work.
Now MacBook Pro 17" early 2011 built May onward do not have this problem it was fixed in the Intel's 6 Series Chipset. (So there is a problem). Cam I have my MacBook Pro fixed please.

After biting the bullet and ordering more RAM, my computer now is working a ton better. So that must have been the main issue. With 8 GB RAM, I can now even run Parallels fluidly (better than my work PC!) where before simple things like logging in to my MBP after reboot could take forever.
The place I went to had several other people getting RAM upgrades at the same time as me, so between this and other comments I've seen in discussions here and elsewhere on the Internets, I take it to mean that either Apple should bump up the base RAM on its new machines, and/or stop charging so much for additional RAM.
I refused to believe a Pro machine bought with Lion installed would come with too little RAM for light to medium usage, but it was apparently the case. I'll mark this as a correct answer and hope some other poor soul will come across this thread and be helped by it.

  • Anyone get a 300 Mbit link speed using 40 MHz (Channel-Bonding) on 802.11n?

I recently switched from a MacBook Pro 2.33 C2D 15 to a new MacBook Air 1.86 SSD... For some reason, one little persistent mystery that remains, is that I have been unable to get the Air to establish the link speed at 300 Mbit/s at 40 Mhz (Channel-Bonded). The best I can get is 270 Mbit/s, although my MacBook Pro consistently links at maximum. Signal quality is not an issue...
Anyone have an idea why? Can an Air owner out there confirm max link, or is this little gem incapable of 802.11n wide 300 Mbit/s?
Thanks to anyone who can shed light on this little puzzle...

    Thanks for the reply.
First, you need your TC's 'Radio Mode' set to '802.11n only (5 Ghz)' - (I assume you do, since I don't think the 'Use wide channels' option should appear in any other mode...).
Now, the quick method to check Link Speed is in the 'Network Utility' Info tab...
Note that I don't have a major issue with my transfer rates, but do think it's an anomaly for a MacBook Pro to consistently link at 300 Mbit/s and my Air to refuse the same (max 270). In general, I would say that my Air exhibits (a bit) less sensitivity than the Pro with consistent wireless performance (i.e., I never had issues with the Pro acquiring and maintaining wireless links - the Air less so...).
    Thanks for your help.

  • Unusual wireless latency and speed issue

I have an odd problem where wireless connections to the home hub 3 will start to exhibit very high and varied latency from 40ms up to 1000ms every 15 to 30 seconds (pinging from laptop to homehub) and slow throughput of about 4Mbit.  The link speed is solid at 144Mbit/sec and the signal is always on maximum.
If I change the wireless channel on the router and the change it back to its original value the connection starts to behave and latency is normally 1-3ms with the odd spike up to 90 or so and realworld throughput jumps up to 60+Mbit/sec.
I suspected packet fragmentation back have confirmed this is not the case and now believe it to be a problem with the home hub as restarting it or changing the wireless channel will fix the issue for a few hours.  Anyone else had this problem and resolved it?  It is a pain because the connection does still work but it makes streaming high quality media impossible and online gaming becomes a pain with constant lag until I poke the router.

I assume you're using windows vista, 7 and it probably affects windows 8 as well.
When you're connected wirelessly, it never stops searching for a wireless connection and briefly disconnects you from the one you are connect to.
You can turn this off with a program called WLAN Optimizer.

  • DSL speed issues........I am about to cancel.

I have been a Verizon customer for over 14 years.   These last two years with Internet have been abysmal. At least once a month, my internet is so slow that I can not even stream a simple TV show.  Often it is completely down.  I call customer service, and I get some guy in India.  This is the most frustrating.   The last time the guy asked me FIVE times if I had a dial tone on my home line.  Each time I told him I have NO phone connected to that line.   It is simply there to bring service to the house. When I can, I use chat because that seems to get me a more competent person.  Each time there is an "issue with the line and we are sending your information up.  SOmeone will call you."  It is always the same thing.  COngestion on the line, speed issues, issues with the connection.   I am paying for a service that I can only use half of the time.   It seems that since Verizon has brought in Fios, their DSL customers have suffered.  We have no option to get fios, we are stuck with crappy DSL  service and even less competent customer service reps to help us.   I have priced, and will be switching to Cox if this issue is not resolved.   I can get 50mpbs for $10 more than I am paying now for intermittent service.   Is there anyone above the basic customer service reps who can help with this issue?

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you.
Please go to your profile page for the forum, and look in the middle, right at the top where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.
Under “My Support Cases” you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. This should be checked on a frequent basis as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions.
To ensure you know when they have responded to you, at the top of your support case there is a drop down menu for support case options. Open that and choose "subscribe".

  • Link speeds showing wrong, terminal command needed...

Hi, I have what is either a bug in 10.4.10 on my Mac Pro, or something else wrong.
In the Network Utility, my Ethernet (en0 and en1) both show incorrectly as 10Mb links.
They should be, and are, 1Gb.
Plugging my MBP into the ports shows this as true, as does my Fluke meter.
So...is there a way to show this info in the terminal to see if it's a GUI mistake or other issue?
I don't know if that's the only way - or even a good way to test, so if anyone has better ideas, I'm all ears.
I'm concerned as I just had a new logic board installed, and don't know if it's faulty.
    Scott

We are experiencing the same issue on every Mac Pro that we have and they are all running 10.4.10. (We just received 25 for campus and more are on the way). It happens booted to a netboot image as well as a production OS.
To answer your question, you can open terminal and type:
    ifconfig en0 | grep media
or en1 if you are using the seond nic card. Next to media you will probably see autoselect (10baseT/UTP).
you can change the link speed from here that will work as long as the machine isn't restarted by typing:
    sudo ifconfig en0 media 1000BaseT
to force the speed to gigabit or you can change it in System Preferences.
Obviously annoying and can be a time waster, especially if you are dropping an 8 GB image on a machine and it should take 15 minutes and it takes over 2 hours! Hope we get an answer soon.

  • Kernel 2.6.23 bnx2 driver does not properly identify link speed

I recently upgraded to kernel version 2.6.23 and have lost my network connectivity. I cannot get into or out of the box. If I boot with a rescue disk using kernel 2.6.22 then everything works fine. I can ping, ssh, rsync you name it. I haven't changed any config files. Am I missing some obvious change that took place between the old and new kernels? I'll gladly post any relevant info.
The only thing that looks weird so far is that the eth0 shows up as a 100MB connection. It's a gig card plugged into a gig port in a Cisco 6509.
The switch shows the port as up and up and set to Full-duplex, 1000Mb/s.
Booting into kernel 2.6.23 dmesg output shows:
bnx2: eth0 NIC Copper Link is Up, 100 Mbps full duplex
Booting into kernel 2.6.22 dmesg output shows:
bnx2: eth0 NIC Link is Up, 1000 Mbps full duplex
I think the mismatched link speed in kernel 2.6.23 is killing my network connectivity. I'm not sure how to check for other symptoms and I don't know how to fix it.
    Anyone familiar with this issue?
Last edited by derelict (2007-11-06 20:08:47)

I reverted to kernel 2.6.22.9-1 from my pacman cache and everything seems to be working now.
Due to the nature of the problem I'm not sure this is a task for arch developers It's more for kernel developers to know about.

  • MSI 890FXA-GD65 PCIe speed issue!! HELP PLEASE

I just finished building my new PC using this said motherboard.  After a clean OS install, all updated drivers, etc... my PCIe link speed is stuck @ 8x.  I have done everything possible to trouble shoot this issue, and no matter what I do (I played with PCIe MHz speed in Bios, put card in another slot, etc) it seems to be stuck on 8x speed. Im thinking since this is such a new motherboard, and no BIOS's are out for it yet, that this may be a BIOS issue, and I just need to wait for MSI to correct this????  Any suggestions ya'll?? TY

Quote from: Mark on 29-January-11, 04:19:56
Since you're running an overclocked system, if you restore all settings to default what speed is reported then?
If I go into bios and "LOAD OPTIMIZED DEFAULTS" it goes to 16x speed....  Crazy!! Obvious bios bug here

  • "Negotiated Link Speed" question to make informed decision on upgrading my hard drive

This is my first post on any help forum I've made in a while as I have usually found answers if I looked hard enough. I am glad I caught and investigated this detail before buying anything that may not improve. What I really want to do is top my macbook out. I'll try to provide as much useful info I can and appreciate what clear insight anyone has for me.
While comparing the specs of my current hard-drive to the SSD ones, I couldn't help but notice these line items:
      Link Speed:    3 Gigabit
      Negotiated Link Speed:    1.5 Gigabit
While I spent a great deal of time researching similar concerns I could not find the answers that I needed, or made any sense. I'm going to include the hardware specs of my system to make this easier for anyone who is more knowledgeable about what is causing the 1.5 limit. My current stock hard drive is a Seagate Momentus 5400.6 SATA.
    Serial-ATA:
    NVidia MCP79 AHCI:
      Vendor:    NVidia
      Product:    MCP79 AHCI
    * Link Speed:    3 Gigabit
    * Negotiated Link Speed:    1.5 Gigabit
      Description:    AHCI Version 1.20 Supported
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:    MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:    MacBookPro5,4
Processor Name:    Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:    2.53 GHz
      Number of Processors:    1
      Total Number of Cores:    2
      L2 Cache:    3 MB
      Memory:    8 GB
      Bus Speed:    1.07 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:    MBP53.00AC.B03
      SMC Version (system):    1.49f2
All I am looking to do is top out my system hardware wise. I already maxed the RAM and was interested in getting an SSD. Before I do....I need to know why the 'negotiated link speed' is not reading 3gb as well, and if it's something I can correct. If I upgrade to a 6gb SSL and the value still reads 1.5 I'll have wasted my money. Thanks all.

I looked in as many sources as I could find, and didn't see any 'published' link speed for my macbook. I am led to believe that it is 3gb based on the system report. Since my 5400rpm drive cannot physically achieve much less than 1gbs, if what your saying is true (which is sounds to me that you know what you're talking about).
With this understanding, even if a 7200rpm drive can't saturated the 1.5gb, and even if my Macbook data *may* not be able to exceed 3, would it be logical to say that an SSD would gives me 3x the speed if I upgrade? I'm just looking to get the most out of my computer with the current processor and the 8gb of RAM. If it makes the music software, opening/closing programs, reboot, start-up, shutdown and things like that more noticeably 'snappier'. I can be comfortable with the investment.
"The bottleneck is the drive's best-case transfer rate."
I would like to know how to go about determining this. I also need to know if I have to limit my choices to an SSD based on the recommended upgrades for my specific computer:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/MyOWC/Upgrades.cfm?&model=353&type=Internal+Drive&sort =pop
or if I can get a discounted one such as this:
    http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0364781
Speed and compatibility. Before I upgraded to this macbook from my PC, I was chasing incompatibility issues all over the place and got to spend less than 10% of my time actually working on music/video production. If only I had know then what I know now….but that's why I gotta do my homework before buying everything these days

  • Speed Issues

    Greetings and Salutations,
I'm having speed issues with my Adobe AIR application. From what I've read on the web, AIR is supposed to be fast at drawing graphics. I am writing an application which has multiple screens. On one of the screens I have a tab (SuperNavigator) which has a canvas on it. That canvas has a series of other canvases (built with a repeater) that have graphics in them. I am having speed issues when I have more than 50 of these children canvases. I've tried running it without the graphics (code below is without the graphics) to see how it performs. When I have 954 of these canvases being drawn it takes about 2.5 minutes to draw. This is unacceptable and I'm wondering if this is something I've induced or if AIR was never meant to handle such a large amount of canvases (actually this isn't a large amount, in a real world environment there could be a lot more). I've included relevant clips from the code. There are a couple empty boxes that in the real application will hold graphics.
The class withing the Tab Navigator is a canvas.
In the action Script (the setter line takes 2.5 minutes to get past) (it's binding to the repeater that seems to be my problem).

The Canvas is a very heavy object that has lots of overhead.  Even worse is the VBox object that is in there multiple times.
What exactally are you trying to accomplish?  Just looking over the code, it seems that the same could be done directly with the Graphics API, at a much faster rate.
For each of the VBoxes and Canvases you have, the entire size of each child and parent need to be re-evalulated each time you add or change something.  This is a HUGE overhead, and probably why the app is running so slow.  You may need to convert this app to use simpler objects (UIComponent or something lower-level like that) to get any speed.
Are you using Flex Bulder?  Take a look at the app while the Profiler is running to see what I'm talking about.
