BT Infinity 2, not the speed I was expecting....

I have had Infinity 2 installed and just moved over from Virgin Media as I thought a change would be good.  I'm a little concerned about the speeds I'm getting, compared with what I signed up for.  Point of sale speeds were shown as 46Mb to 63Mb download and 12Mb to 18Mb upload.
What I seem to be getting is this, 44Mb download and 6Mb upload.  This has been mesured with BT's own speed checker and compared with speedtest.net also.
Should I complain?

Im new to infinity and Bt forums however whilst browsing I come across your post.
In relation to your phone line, call your land line from a mobile and even tho you can't hear a tone from landline does it have a tone from mobile ear piece? If so pick up land line. Is this connected?
If so its a BNR otherwise known as bell not ringing. Our installation for infinity was done Thursday and we had this issue and he fixed it without the need of another engineer.
Report to tech helpline as BNR if your issue is as described.

    I started to learn HTML, and I'm using text edit and everything is going fine, when I save the file with a .html extension and open it with safari I only view the code and not the webpage that was supposed to be created.

    That is because you don't have a web server configured and running to serve the html page. In order to see the page in a browser you need to access it using a url similar to http://localhost/~yourUserName if you are serving the page from your user account.
    Prior to Mountain Lion you could go into web sharing and turn on the web server. With Mountain Lion there is no option, other than using terminal, to turn on the web server. The web sharing menu item has been removed in Mountain Lion. Apache is still on your computer but it will take a little searching these forums or the Internet to find how to turn it on.
    If you want a graphic user interface to turn on/off the Apache server you could download and install a server application like xampp, http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html. I use this and it works well.

    To repair any hardware damage would require opening the phone up.
    Software, put the handset into DFU mode and try that, it's a basic operating system on the phone that does nothing other than process the firmware upgrade request

  • HT204088 I was double charged for an itunes gift. The email was only received by the recipient once and her itunes is only showing one gift, not the 2 I was charged for

    I gifted $15 to my friend through the itunes store. After 30 minutes, she had not received it so I resent the message. iTunes didn't say I would be double charged for RESENDING the email.
    She only received the email once. She opened it and the redemption code was automatically downloaded onto iTunes. She only received $15, not the $30 I was charged!
    I've tried calling iTunes support and now I'm here.
    Can a robot please help since custome service is out the window?!

    The iTunes Store has no phone support. Go here:

    and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.

  • StringTokenizer not working as I was expecting

    Hi all, I have a question related to StringTokenizer class. It is not giving me the results I was expecting. May be my understanding is wrong.
    This is my code:
    String string = null;
    String delimiter = null;
    StringTokenizer tokenizer = null;
    string = "Normal";
    delimiter = "_crMULT_";
    System.out.println("string=" + string);
    System.out.println("delimiter=" + delimiter);
    tokenizer = new StringTokenizer(string, delimiter);
    while (tokenizer.hasMoreTokens()) {
         System.out.println("tokenizer.nextToken()=" + tokenizer.nextToken());
    }This is the result I am getting:
    string=Normal
    delimiter=_crMULT_
    tokenizer.nextToken()=No
    tokenizer.nextToken()=mal
    I thought this is the result I will get:
    string=Normal
    delimiter=_crMULT_
    tokenizer.nextToken()=Normal
    What I am doing wrong here?

    The first delimiter character found in 'Normal' is 'r' so the first token is 'No'.
    None of the other delimiter characters was found so the next, and last token is 'mal' since the 'r' was a delimiter and was stripped.The OP's confusion was thinking that the delimiter String was a single, multi-character delimiter, hence my reply.

  • BT Infinity 2 - Not the best speed? High Ping.

    I hope someone can be of help?
    I originally bought fibre last year, and had a massive drop off in speed, ending up at around 8- 11mb download. After some back and forth with the good chaps (and chappessess) in India, an engineer was duly dispatched before Christmas, who told me the original installation hadn't been the best. Anyway, he did some work, told me I should be getting around 52-55mb, which should settle and go stable over the next few days...
    I am now on around 32mb download, and 10mb upload, with a ping of between 42-47ms. Having run the speed tester at http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/ADSLChecker.TelephoneNumberOutput, it appears that I am getting the speeds that are shown in the low column of the impacted line (assuming impacted is used as no line is perfect?).
    If I then go to the BT website to buy a package, and run an estimate on what I could get against my phone number, they quote 53-70mb down, and 15-20mb up.
    As the crows fly I am around 800m from the exchange, but obviously the line will be longer than this.  The question is, is this drop off normal, as it appears that the line has settled on the lowest attainable speed possible, or am I just very unlucky and have a totally 'impacted' line between me and the cabinet?

    When you use the BT checker it would appear that it always quotes the Range A speeds rather than showing the Range B to Range A speeds which would be a fairer estimate because there is no way of telling which Range your line is on until you get broadband. If that was to happen at least you would know the worst as well as the best speed possible on your line.
    If you are on an impacted line you could try and get BT to have a look at it to see if there is anyway of improving it but I suspect that they will use the "you're within estimate" get out clause. When they use that estimate it always seems to be the Range B estimate they use and not the one you were quoted when you signed up.
    If you have a look at this graph you will see the expected speeds over distance for Infinity, which is VDSL2 which puts your speed at 800mtrs about 20Mbps.

  • BT infinity installation - half the speed of the e...

    After a long, long wait I was very pleased to see that Infinity was finally available in my area (from about 2 weeks ago), so I ordered it pretty much the moment I had a chance to do so. The estimate from BT's availability checker for FTTC was up to 51.7mbps down and up to 13.2 mbps up - somewhat better than I was getting on ADSL (<2mbps down and 200kbps up..).
    On the day of the installation we requested that the modem & router be placed in our study, as the master socket is in the hallway and has no power nearby (we had previously run everything from an extension socket in the study). The contractor (not a BT engineer) decided that the current wiring was suitable, and so didn't make any changes to the master socket or to our internal wiring - pretty much just plugged things in and was on his way again, telling us that our speed should be stable within 10 days or so.
    It's now been a week since the installation, and we are still achieving less than half of what BT's estimate suggested we should be getting.
    BT speed tester diagnostics:
    Download Speed
    22.72 Mbps
    0 Mbps
    23.52 Mbps
    Max Achievable Speed
     Download speedachieved during the test was - 22.72 Mbps
     For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 16 Mbps-23.52 Mbps .
     Additional Information:
     IP Profile for your line is - 23.52 Mbps
    2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
    Upload Speed
    8.23 Mbps
    0 Mbps
    20 Mbps
    Max Achievable Speed
    Upload speed achieved during the test was - 8.23Mbps
     Additional Information:
     Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps
    This is on an ethernet connection, not wireless.
    Is there anything that we could try to increase the download speed, or is our line likely just awful? Don't get me wrong, I'm very pleased to be receiving 10 times what I was on ADSL, but I was hoping for more.

  • HT1688 My iphone 4 is very slow since the IOS upgrade.  What can I do to bring it back to the speed it was prior to this upgrade ?

    My iphone 4 is very slow sine the IOS upgrade.  What can I do to bring it back to the way it was before the upgrade.  It's turtle speed now!

    I forgot to mention earlier: if you find that on-screen typing is very slow to register  then you might try logging out of iCloud and iTunes and the App Store in Settings/iCloud/[Delete Account] and Settings/iTunes and App Store/Apple ID [Sign Out]. Then reset the phone (press sleep/wake and home buttons together and hold until Apple logo appears), and then log back into iCloud and iTunes and the App Store in Settings again.

    Hello everyone,
    I too have the same problem as described here.
    I live in the S43 area of Clowne and ported over from Eclipse ant the same time as bruno116
    In fact I live just around the corner.
    I moved over to BT on the recommendation of bruno116 after we both had had conversations with the BT rep about promised Internet speeds.
    It was a no brainier
    Unfortunately I am experiencing the same issues.
    bruno116 called last night to say that someone from BT had contacted him telling him that his line will be changed to 21CN on Tuesday
    Hopefully they can do the same for me as I was promised 10-12mbps service but only get 6mbps
    Not sure why BT would offer one service the give you a lower one??
    Hope someone can help me too

  • HT4847 What window?  The site tells me to find the little gear at the top of the window to delet old mail.  The site does not say what window.  It sure is not the one I was in.  Does anyone have suggestions so that I can free up Icloud storage?

    Can anyone help someone not tech savvy, but not an idiot follow Apple rules?  How do I free up space on the cloud?  I want to erase old e-mails, and the site says to go to the gear at the top of the window.  The trouble is, I do  not know what window.  Help?

    I believe you are talking about deleting unneeded emails on icloud.com.  You do this by going to icloud.com on your computer, signing in with your iCloud ID and password, clicking on Mail, clicking your inbox or folders on the left side, then selecting email to the right that you no longer need, then clicking on the trach can icon at the top.  After deleting all the email you no longer want to keep, you need to empty the trash to permanently remove it from your iCloud account.  To do this, click on the gear shaped icon on the upper right and select Empty Trash (see image below).

  • 2nd Generation and iOS 4.3 (Not the question you are expecting.)

    Now before you get mad at me, I know 4.3 will never come out for 2nd gen iPod touches or any lower generation of iPod. I have a bit of a different question.
    I reset my Ipod because it was being kind of screwy lately, but when it went to get all of my apps back, a few of them would not go back onto my ipod. I went to manually download them when all of a sudden "iOS 4.3 or higher required".
    I JUST had these downloaded! What the heck is going on, and how can I get my apps back?

    I realize that it is the constant upgraded technology that makes the previous obsolete. Even though the app developers may be to blame, I still blame Apple as a whole. I bought my iPod when it was new and now that they have something better, I feel they are doing a poor job at keeping customers with technology only made a couple years ago happy. Those who snicker at this now will understand in a year or so when the iPod Touch 6th generation comes out.
    This can all be solved easily if they would just release something that would sort updates in the 'App Store' based on the generation of the iPod Touch being used by the user. (Hint, hint, Apple)
    Since that's way to easy to solve, it probably won't happen. So this then begs the question:
    (This is also the TL;DR part) Is there still no workaround? If not, is there some way I can trade in my old iPod Touch for a discount or something on a newer one? Because they have by no means lost a user. They have just made a user very unhappy at the moment.

  • DVD not as clear as was expected

    When I play DVDs on my MacBook Pro, it seems like it should be alot clearer. Especially with such a nice display. I can see artifacts here and there, and the picture just doesn't look as crisp as I had expected. Games are fine...they look great. Is there anything I can do about this or is that the way that DVDs play. Would this be a video card issue? Thanks.
    firewired

    Thanks. I downloaded an HD quicktime clip and it was crystal clear. Must be the DVD compression. I'm glad that it's not my display or my video card. I was kind of hoping for clear DVD playback though. Oh well...HD looks great though. And if you don't look too terribly close, the regular DVDs look pretty nice too. Thanks again.
