Bt infinity and broadband talk

Just read this on the BT website:
BT Broadband Talk
BT Broadband Talk will not work with BT Infinity. After you upgrade to BT Infinity, your BT Broadband Talk service will end, and you won't be able to use your BT Broadband Talk number to make or receive calls.
Well I just I tried it and it works fine. I did have to re-activate it, but can make and receive calls using the same 0203 number perfectly fine.
Cany anyone else confirm?

No nothing should change with your existing contracts.

  • BT Infinity and Broadband Anywhere

Hi - I've been a BT Broadband user for a number of years and an Option 3 user since the start, and now that my exchange has been upgraded to allow Infinity, I asked for the upgrade. Was given a date for the installation but the engineer didn't show. Contacted BT who said that I couldn't have Infinity as I had a BT Mobile Phone package (with HTC S620) and the two will not work together. Thanks for letting me know as I'd taken the morning off to await the engineers arrival!
I subsequently asked whether I could cancel the mobile package - BT Customer Options said subject to cancellation charges, and will not budge from this stance even though the Infinity package more than makes up the difference in revenue.
Seems odd to me that having been a customer for a long time and wanting to upgrade my BB service  that I would be charged cancellation on a service that will not work with the new hardware!
Perhaps someone from BT could explain,
Why the Mobile service will not work with infinity,
Why this extremely intransigent stance has been taken especially as BT can't provide a continued Mobile Phone service if I move to Infinity, and finally
Will the Mobile Phone Service be fixed to work with Infinity and if so when?

I was informed when upgrading to Infinity my internet phone would no longer work as it was incompatible with Infinity but my Soft phone would still work.
The Engineer installed Infinity on a Tuesday and left at 2pm. Tested the internet phone plugged in to the hub and soft phone all working Ok, received 2 calls on the plugged in internet phone on Wednesday and a further call on the soft phone. The cordless internet phone would no longer work and registration failed.
On Wednesday night I received an email saying as I had not used the internet phone for 90 days it had been cancelled and one hour later the illuminated phone icon went out. On contacting BT I was told BT Talk was incompatible with infinity although it still worked well for 24 hours.
Having BB Anywhere I wonder with the great deal I already had to give me infinity completely free BT had to take something back
I pay £29-99p per month plus Vat for my BB Anywhere package.

  • Broadband Constantly dropping since Broadband Talk...

Firstly - if anyone from BT reads this and cares about customer service and support, get a grip it is the worst support I have ever had the need to contact!
Two weeks ago I finally swap my fully working and stable Netgear router over to a Home Hub, with the intention of getting rid of my Vonage VOIP service (which works a treat, but costs!) and use the Broadband talk service. The hub and phone arrived on the 10th (I think) and plugg in and all worked well ... however it would seem that I did not have the required broadband talk number and password. It took nearly two weeks of long phone calls to various people getting no where, when finally last night they activated it and sent out the relevant information via email!
However now my broadband connection is constantly dropping, and broadband talk light sometimes goes back to blue, but often just stays at orange ... and as the broadband is dropping (as I type, but hopefully I'll get a window to post it in) my internet connection is now useless.
Performing the line check on the BT website said there was a fault and gave me a reference number and a number to call. That's when two and half hours of passing around started. They tell me I don't have a line fault, that it is a fault at my end.... they seem **bleep** bent on finding something they can blame it on. Are you connected via wireless or ethernet, well I have both. Which operating system, well I have Seven, Vista, XP Pro, 98, Me, an PS3 and an Iphone. Then we move down the it must be the cables to the socket in the house (well not changed since last night when BBT was activated!), and then I have to move the cupboard in the hall to get access to the master socket to tell them what it looks like! What is the point of that one!!
I am told that it is purely a coincidence that it dropped when the BBT was activated (one **bleep** of a coincidence!) and after much more discussion finally I was told that he was 'honestly sorry' that I had a problem, and would book an engineer to look at it tomorrow between 8am and 1pm, but they need 48 hours to resolve it! Basic maths that one!
Has anyone else experienced these problems? Why is BT customer support so scripted and if your problems don't follow the tick boxes they are lost, and just start again? If I pay my phone bill late, I get charged a fee for doing so ... what compensation do I get for loss of service?
The broadband lights finally came back on so I'll try the post option.

Further to my last, this is a section of the event log from the router, the VOIP certainly appears to be having a problem.....  (I've removed my phone number so the ***'s are normally a number.

  • No More Broadband Talk: dumbest marketing decision...

As part of my "upgrade" to BT Infinity my BT Broadband Talk number stopped working.
I knew that the Homehub 5 wouldn't take a plug in 'phone but I figured at least my BT Softphone would keep working. Softphone is what I use when I'm travelling; it's a global "follow me" number. Yes folks, Broadband Talk could find me in China or anywhere else when my laptop was logged in.
No more! Broadband Talk has been terminated.
Not only is this inconvenient as it's the number on all my business cards and email signatures, it's also a double dumb decision by marketing folks.
I used to pay call minutes for using Softphone, even when on another carrier's broadband eg when abroad
I now have to use a free service like Skype or another VoIP provider when at home so BT still carries my voice traffic for no extra revenue
I checked the support pages and found this advice http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32498/c/346,433,441
So the advice being give out is contradictory.
Looks like marketing folk have been found with one smoking gun and one hole in the foot!

You may be able to port the number over to BT Business VOIP, other people have done it, where its business critical.
BT residential T&Cs do not permit business use anyway.
    http://business.bt.com/phone-services/voip/
Broadband Talk is being phased out, and existing customers now pay £3.50 a month for the service.
Its not available to new users, or if you upgrade to Infinity.
The link you refer to is for those non-Infinity users, who have the HH3, 4, or 5.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • BT Infinity and REIN

I’m currently with BE unlimited when i first joined i received 6mb download and 1mb upload but recently i noticed the download speed had dropped to 3mb, after numerous phone calls to BE and 4 visits from openreach and a bt rein engineer it turns out a neighbours sky box is interfering with my broadband and another 4/5 houses in the street and basically there is nothing they can do about it. I was wondering if i signed up to bt infinity would my speed  be reduced by half. I have spoken to two different sales people from BT infinity and they both assured me rein does not affect the BT infinity service, and stated the speed i would receive would be 33mb download and 8.5 upload. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thats one of the reasons i said get sales to put it in writing. Much much better than a verbal conversation in a small claim s court.
Sales know they are talking c**p, they just want to get you into a contract with the knowledge that 99.9% of people will in the end suffer it rather than fight them.

  • Didn't recieve my BT Broadband Talk number?

    Hi There,
I signed up for BT infinity and BT Broadband Talk about a month ago, the broadband was installed and works fine, but didn't come with the hub phone, which I bought last week. But the phone light on my home hub is out, and when I try to activate it it asks me for my BT Broadband Talk number and password which were never given to me, I've checked my email very throroughly and didn't get it in a letter. What should I do?

If you have ordered it you should get it. However, did BT supply you with a HH3 box, if so, then the HH3 does not have a BB talk phone connection. As the other post said, BT are doing away with BB Talk, because Broadband get free calls evening and weekends with their land lines.

  • Alternative to Broadband Talk?

I have put off upgrading to Infinity because I work home office and find the Broadband Talk option with the HH2 extremely useful. But the lure of super-fast broadband is just too much, so I've been exploring alternatives to BBTalk.
Skype is an option, but it's still a little flakey, so I was wondering if anyone has any experience of connecting a Siemens Gigaset N300 base to the Home Hub 3? In theory this should work, provided BT is not doing anything to disable it.
    Thanks for your help.

I use this Siemens unit with BT Infinity and BT Total Broadband before that without absolutely any problems. I connected it to both a HH2 and HH3 but have out of personal preference replaced the HH's with a Draytek 2750n.
There is the 2750vn that allows it to be used as a Voip Dect base unit and others on the Forum have gone for the Fritzphone option.
    http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/FRITZ-Box-Fon-WLAN-7390-versus-Draytek-2750n/td-p/338415
Given the BT " all day free calls" bundle unless calling internationally do you need a voip service? Having said that I use the Call Sign feature service for another number on the same line to differentiate between "work" calls answered by me and "private" calls answered by the family. My use of VOIP is for my wife to phone her mother in Eire for free using another provider.

  • Voicemail Broadband Talk

In April I subscribed to BT's Infinity service and after a day or so I setup my Broadband Talk number. I've used it a few times to make calls by plugging in an old handset into the Home Hub to make out going calls. When I wasn't using Broadband Talk for an out going call I unplugged the handset as I didn't have the voicemail service switched on.
I recently purchased a hub phone for my Home Hub so I could make more use of the service and also start to use it for incoming calls. As I have a phone always connected I thought I'd better switch on the voicemail service. I've logged into the Broadband Talk settings page (https://service.btbroadbandvoice.bt.com/selfcare/consumer/adminOverview.do) and then clicked on the link to add voicemail. I choose the option and click on submit and I always get the following message back
I've been trying to add voicemail for the last couple of days but every time I try I keep getting the same message. Which number or email address at BT do I need to contact about this?
Thanks for any help you can provide

  • Migrating phone line and broadband from BE to BT i...

Hi everyone, i ordered BT infinity 2 online on Friday , order went through with out any issues got the date for engineer visit on 14th of JUNE but since that my order is pending and i don't know the reason why and my account hasn't been created as well.
My phone line and broadband currently both with BE unlimited and somebody from BT told me that if i am migrating phone line from another provider then i can't order BT infinity 2 straight away, first i have to transfer my phone line over to BT and then i can order BT infinity 2. Can any body tell me if this is true.
I had excellent experience with BE unlimited for last 5 years and hoping that it carries on with BT as well but things so far not looking promising because i can't get straight answer from BT reps.
Any help in this matter will be much appreciated in advance.

OK i have update regarding my order, i spoke to BT rep today and she told me the reason my order is till pending because  first i have to transfer my  phone line over to BT then i can order BT infinity 2. The date they give me for my phone line to switch over to BT is 15th of June and once that completed then some one from BT infinity 2 Team will contact me and arrange a date for BT engineer.
So any one thinking about moving to BT infinity 2 in near future and currently they have their phone line and broadband both with different company then they should move their phone line to BT straight away and once phone line is moved over to BT then they can order BT infinity 2 with out any problems.
I hope this will help lot of other people who are in similar situation.

  • What's happening with BT Broadband Talk??

When I joined BT some years ago I was advised to use BT Broadband Talk, as this was a VOIP service the calls made via BT Broadband Talk were cheaper than made via a landline (at least that was what they told me when they sold this to me).
Recently I found out that the call rates for Broadband Talk calls and landline calls are the same, but also that some of my calling plan features do NOT apply to Broadband Talk calls!!
As I have been using only my Broadband Talk number to make calls, I was just paying for calling plans while they were not being applied on my calls. I don't know when BT all changed this, but it looks to me like they are phasing out the whole BT Broadband Talk service!
Can anyone let me know what is happening with Broadband Talk???
(I guess I better use skype anyway...)

That's indeed what I thought but when I was chatting with a BT support person, this was what she told me (copied from the chat log):
"Quatta: Can you send me the international calling rates to Netherlands, Spain, Belgium and Germany when calling from the main line vs when calling from the broadband talk line?
Junaid  : the prices are same if you call from land line or bt talk broadband i will tell you the charges bare with me
Quatta: Okay thanks - yes please send me the rates
       Junaid  : Netherland-2.50, Spain-2.50, Belgium-2.50 and Germany-2.50 all the amount is 2.50 pence."
After this i search the bt site to see whether BT BB-Talk had cheaper internatonal rates listed (as i did not trust this chat-reply) but no where on the site you find seperate BT BB-Talk rates for international calls. This chat happened on dec-7, 2011 - that's why i started thinking that BT is making this voip service less attractive so that their existing customers drop out on it and they can terminate it (as they already stopped taking on / promoting BB-talk to new clients). So don't think the cheap calls advantage is there anymore. cheers Rob

  • Infinity and online gaming

    Hello
I am relativly new to infinity and was wondering if anyone could tell me why its so bad for online gaming?
My download speeds are virtually always 37.5mb download and between 8 - 9mb upload although upload drops sometmimes to slightly lower

however i always get loads of lag when playing on xbox live, to the point it is not worth playing, it gets worse than when I was on normal copper wire broadband.
I have also noticed that there is quite a delay before web pages open when browsing the internet in general, my ping used to be pretty consistent at around 17 - 20ms before I switched to infininty but now seems to jump around lot even going as high as 300ms on occasion.
my line profile seems to have set at 38.10mb which I am happy with, and the engineer who installed my infinity said that my line stats were excellent.
all this said then why do i seem to be suffering when using xbox live??

    Hi Cameron
No I have been trying it with the wireless disabled, although on our old connection this wasnt an issues, myself and my son could both use our xboxs together on the one connection and still it was better than at presen
I didnt have the cable in the gigabyte port, I have now though, what does this port do?
Yes port forwarding set to xbox live

  • BT Broadband Talk

I was aware that BT was stopping supplying the service to new customers, but just read that the service is planning on being canned in 2014.
As this was an integral part of the service when I joined and I do make use of the service, hence my renewals over the years is there going to be a replacement service for VoiP by BT ??
I'm aware of smarttalk and have used it occassionally, but this in no replacement for the additional effective second line service that BT Broadband Talk provides

Broadband Talk has caused a lot of problems for BT, especially when people were paying for unlimited calls on their landline, and did not realise that if they used BBT, the call package would not apply.
People did not fully understand the service, and many thought that the hub phones connected to their wireless network.
There were also reliability issues when the HH2 was introduced. With the introduction of the HH3, BBT was not supported anyway. Also with the advent of services like Skype, the cost of maintaining the BBT service, for the dwindling number of users, forced BT to rethink.
BT still supply VOIP services to BT Business customers.
Its still unclear what BT are going to do about the remaining BBT users. I would have hoped that they would come to some arrangement with a VOIP provider, to port numbers across, and arrange a discounted deal for a limited period of time.
I still use BBT, as it gives me the free evening calls.
BT SmartTalk does give some extra flexibility for customers with a mobile that supports it.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • BT Broadband Talk Softphone - Username change to T...

Hello Everyone.  One to raise the blood pressure.
I have been happily using BT Broadband Talk Softphone for over 2 years & have been logging on using a text user-name.  Over this period I have generated a large contact list and history.  In particular, I use the history for billing clients and supporting queries - this is critical information.  The PC concerned is backed up every night so I have no worries over data loss.
Approximately 48 hours ago I was unable to logon using my text username.  I am now only able to logon using the telephone number and relevant password which works correctly.
I have just spent an incredibly frustrating 75 minutes with BT Broadband Technical Support who, in the end, pointed me to these forums to get a solution.  They say that text usernames have not been used for approaching 2 years and this problem relates to an upgrade.  I have NOT upgraded or changed anything.
I now have two sub-folders under 'C:\Users\My Name\AppData\Roaming\BT\BT Broadband Talk Softphone\' - one for the telephone number, one for my text username.  Each folder contains 'contacts-resource-list.xml' and 'history.cps'.  These files are not in text format.
How do I either open BT Broadband Talk Softphone with my old text username or get the data from my old 'history.cps' ??  I have tried copying data & renaming folders - there is obviously a link between the username/password and the data files.
    Thanks in anticipation ....
    Graeme

    Hi Graeme,
I have drop you a reply to your email. I have been in contact with the BT Softphone team, they have confirmed that username function has been reinstated and you should now be able to log onto your Softphone account using your username. Please come back to me and let me know if you are still having any issues.
    Thanks

  • Infinity and Anywhere

I recently ordered Infinity but a nice Irish lady rang to say that Infinity is not compatible with Broadband Anywhere. When I said that that I found that difficult to understand she commented that the issue is with BT's billing system.
When will this be sorted out?

    Dear BT,
I'm also very keen to find out about this. Just had a lovely leaflet through from you telling me I can now get Infinity (and at less than Anywhere package), but I come on here only to find there's some non-technical "compatability" issue with my totally unrelated mobile phone.
Seriously BT sort yourselves out, because as soon as another company gets even close to your high uptime levels we'll all be off.
Look I'll tell you what, let me switch to Infinity and charge me a monthly fee for my continued phone use on top - that's fair, yes?
I'm very brand-loyal and a top of the range product user, I've had BTBBA, or Option 3, or whatever previosuly for nearly 10 years. I have BTvision. I want to spend money on a good new product: so stop trying to p*$$ me off and make me take my business and my wallet elsewhere.
Yours looking forward to this issue being resolved very shortly...
