BT Infinity and DD-WRT (Other Routers)

Hi,
How can I setup BT Infinity with DD-WRT (Linksys WRT54G-TM). A lot of things say just put in PPPoE Username and It'll configure, but I think I'm missing something.
Thanks for the Help

Hi have you connected the linksys to the homehub2 using ethernet and if so would the linksys with dd-wrt allow you to use Wake on Lan over the internet? I am trying to wake a pc from outside of my lan and bthomehub doesnt support this but routers with dd-wrt do, have you tried this at all?

What can I change to gain access to my work vpn.  I can access with my MacBook Air and other routers.  Can use my ipad and this time capsule to successfully access the VPN.

You need to give us a lot more info.
I presume the MBA and the TC are the combo that doesn't work, although you don't clearly state that.
If the ipad and TC work.. are you sure the ipad is connected via the TC and not 3G network?
If it is then the TC itself is fine and the issue might be setup on the MBA.. although if the MBA works with other routers.. that rather confuses the matter.
You need to actually tell us how the TC is setup in the network. What kind of broadband modem you have and what kind of vpn you are using.

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • Using HH2 as WAP with Infinity and Android devices

We have just had Infinity installed.
Before Infinity I had two HH2s set up as waireless access points using the guide prodiced by Keith of this neighbourhood.  They conected back to the HH3 via two TP-Link powerlink units.  It all worked well.  I never got round to resetting the SSID to the same on all 3 hubs which meant as you moved from one side of the house to the other you have to choose a different router.
BT set up Infinity today and it was working fine with my original setup however on the spur of the moment I decided I would change the SSID for all three hubs (two original HH2s and the new HH5).
I started with HH5 and it worked fine.  I then worked my way around the other two HH2s and it seemed to work for a while and then suddenly when I was in the same room as the HH5 my Android tablet could not get the internet.  Logging into the IP address for the HH5 it showed that it was connected.  The blue linelight was on.  The internet radio in the cooking room was connected and working, presumably connected to the nearest HH2.
I reset the wireless settings on the HH5 but still my tablet and my Android phone got the error page saying that there was no internet connection.  After diconnecting a couple of times I eventually got the Android tablet connecting to both the HH5 and to the common SSID now shared by the HH2s.  My phone wont connect at all.
As a test I then connected my work laptop via a cable connection to a TP-Link and it worked fine.  I then connected it via the commn SSID (HH2 only) and the HH3 SSID and agin it works fine.  This thread is created on WiFi to the common SSID.
    Sorry for the long description.
    Two questions:
    1.  When setting the common SSID I used the same passkey for all three routers, was this the best way to do it?
    2.  Why has my Android phone lost connectivity and how do I recover it?
PS 3rd question, why wont this forum accept the word "kit c hen"?
PPS I've just checked on the settings within HH5 and the phone is showing as connected but to the 2.4GHz signal.

There are a couple of different guides on my website, one of them is by Jarviser, so I don`t know which one you are using.
If you make all the SSIDs the same, then Android devices tend to get confused, as they see the same SSID, but with a different BSSID (Wireless MAC address).
This can cause them to fail to get a valid IP address, so you get no connectivity, this is a common issue with BT Wifi hotspots as well, when Android devices are used.
It would be better to use slightly different SSIDS, and then allow the devices to automatically select the one that is in range.
Make sure that the HH2s are on different channels, and make sure that smart wireless, and smart setup is disabled on the HH5.

  • Anyone know the name of the small coax used for antennas on most WRT series routers?

I am looking for more information on the coax cable used on most WRT series routers.  It has a clear jacket, approximately 1/8" thick.  Only way to see is by opening your router, or looking inside the rubber part of antenna.
I would appreciate any experienced assistance!

Big Daddy, One other thing I forgot to mention is, If you open the case on your device, you'll instantly void any warranty that came with it. Also, bear in mind, any modifications that you make to the antenna system on this device could not only make the FCC approval that Linksys was given for the device null and void. Be very careful with anything like an antenna system on these devices, you can actually recieve RF burns if you contact any bare metal of the antenna system when it is transmitting. Just bear in mind that 2.4GHz is more less the same frequency that a microwave oven uses (although at a LOT lower power). As a radio ham, I've had the odd RF burn and I can tell you, they really hurt!.

  • BT Infinity and homehub 5 type A GRR

I so wish that i never signed upto a Bt contract 12 months ago. previously I had sky ADSL and upgraded to BT Infinity..what a massive blunder i made. Wifi signal constantly stops working etc. My daughter has stopped using the house wifi and is using her Vodafone 4G as it is more stable and faster. Yes I have tried to call the BT help desk and report..i have done what they have told me "to disable all WIFI connections plug Ethernet into router and test the broadband speed, and yes i get 38mb as required therefore nothing wrong with my broadband" However a few facts
FACT 1:. I used standard SKY ADSL for 4 years without a single issue, got 14MB download and had a stable wifi signal in all 4 bedrooms of a semi detached..
Fact 2: With BT Infinity, i have a system that constantly crashes, i have to reset my router all the time, when i work from home I have to plug ethernet cable into homehub as Lync audio quality is unbearable, my desk is 1 meter away from the homehub, constant tethering with netflix and now tv, the TV setup is 3 metres away from the homehub and in the same room
I tried to cancel today but unfortunately when i added the "free BT Sport" to my sky box in January just past i signed up for another 12 months without realizing. (how silly of me for not reading the small print)
So, as i'm stuck with this for 12 months what can i do to at least get a service that works...any recommendations of what router i can install instead of the home hub.
    Ok rant over

Which BT Home hub do you have?
There are plenty of alternative and better routers, ( or modem/routers if you have a HH5)

  • Infinity and online gaming

    Hello
I am relativly new to infinity and was wondering if anyone could tell me why its so bad for online gaming?
My download speeds are virtually always 37.5mb download and between 8 - 9mb upload although upload drops sometmimes to slightly lower

however i always get loads of lag when playing on xbox live, to the point it is not worth playing, it gets worse than when I was on normal copper wire broadband.
I have also noticed that there is quite a delay before web pages open when browsing the internet in general, my ping used to be pretty consistent at around 17 - 20ms before I switched to infininty but now seems to jump around lot even going as high as 300ms on occasion.
my line profile seems to have set at 38.10mb which I am happy with, and the engineer who installed my infinity said that my line stats were excellent.
all this said then why do i seem to be suffering when using xbox live??

    Hi Cameron
No I have been trying it with the wireless disabled, although on our old connection this wasnt an issues, myself and my son could both use our xboxs together on the one connection and still it was better than at presen
I didnt have the cable in the gigabyte port, I have now though, what does this port do?
Yes port forwarding set to xbox live

  • BT Infinity and IP Camera

I've just bought a wansview ncb541w IP Camera.  Got it working on laptop on the home network but outside of this (on mobile for instance or another pc not on my network) I am having trouble.
I've tried to set up the port forward on the router BT Hub programme but it aint working.
I've read that BT port forwarding doesnt work or there are problems.  Can anyone advise?
If BT Infinity cannot support this I am happy to move providers as this seems to have been kicking around for too long without resolution.
Does anyone have a fix or know what the problem is?
    thanks

There is some help on this page. It does work, but your camera need to have a static IP address on your home LAN.

  • Infinity and Anywhere

I recently ordered Infinity but a nice Irish lady rang to say that Infinity is not compatible with Broadband Anywhere. When I said that that I found that difficult to understand she commented that the issue is with BT's billing system.
When will this be sorted out?

    Dear BT,
I'm also very keen to find out about this. Just had a lovely leaflet through from you telling me I can now get Infinity (and at less than Anywhere package), but I come on here only to find there's some non-technical "compatability" issue with my totally unrelated mobile phone.
Seriously BT sort yourselves out, because as soon as another company gets even close to your high uptime levels we'll all be off.
Look I'll tell you what, let me switch to Infinity and charge me a monthly fee for my continued phone use on top - that's fair, yes?
I'm very brand-loyal and a top of the range product user, I've had BTBBA, or Option 3, or whatever previosuly for nearly 10 years. I have BTvision. I want to spend money on a good new product: so stop trying to p*$$ me off and make me take my business and my wallet elsewhere.
Yours looking forward to this issue being resolved very shortly...

  • Whole block can get infinity and I can't...

I have just signed up to BT standard broadband and am hoping to possibly upgrade to fibre in the near future. I have tried calling BT however they say I can’t get fibre due to them entering in the phone number and saying it is unavailable.
When I check the availability of fibre using my address it says it is available to me, however when I enter my phone number it says it isn’t.
All my neighbours can get infinity and I can’t, please don’t say it is down to routing as I can’t be the only flat in a nine story building that can’t get it.
They are all connected to the same cabinet and exchange as me. Front door is less than 2 metres away from mine. Please see just one example below.
    Can someone please help.
    Thanks

    Hi Darren1515

I'll get you contacted with an update it may be tomorrow but I will have you updated.

  • Unable to order Infinity and getting the run-aroun...

    Hi All,
Bit of a weird one, but hopefully someone can shed some light on it.
First of all, I will state that according to the website and all the agents I have spoken to, I can receive Infinity at my property.
Recently, I moved house into a brand new property. At my last property I had Infinity installed and was receiving a great service. When I moved into my new property, the guys on the phone at BT informed me that I could not order broadband until I had a working phoneline- I ordered a phoneline, which had to be installed/connected by an engineer. I was happy with this, knowing that I could order broadband as soon as it was installed. The installation day came and went, the phoneline was installed and I could make and receive calls. This is where the frustration started- I phoned again to ask for Infinity to be ordered, which they did- however needed to book an engineer to come out once again. The person on the phone informed me that there was an error on the system and that I would receive a call the following day from someone confirming a date for the engineer visit. This never happen, so about two days later I called back, the person apologised and tried to place the order again, again informing me that there was an error on the system. They suggested that I should order standard broadband because sometimes with new properties it helps the address become registerd with whoever book the engineers for Infinity, this seemed strange- but I went with and ordered standard broadband. The connection day came and I arrived home that evening to find the modem all lit up and access to the internet via my computer. So, I once again called BT to place an order for Infinity, but as before there was some kind of error booking the engineer and the told me I would receive a call the following day, to which I didn't. This happened a further 2-3 times, to which yesterday I called again and informed them that I was being promised calls from people to book the engineer but no one ever called, so could I please have the direct number, which they refused informing me that they did not have a direct number. So I waited again, which brings us to today where I have still not received a phonecall from anyone to book this engineer and everytime I call they try to reorder Infinity, receive this mysterious error, promise me a call back (which never happens), then repeat the entire process when I call them back.
It's getting really frustrating now and I'm sick of calling them because as I know what they are going to try to do and I know that it's going to fail because of this error message, whatever it is... All I want to do is order BT Infinity, which according to the website and all the BT agents I have spoken to is available at my property. Can anyone please advise me?
    Many thanks,
    Matt

  • In a graph, fill base line both -infinity and infinity

    Hello,
In a graph is it possible to fill base line to both negative infinity and positive infinity?
    Thanks

Could you explain what you are imagining this to look like?  If the plot color was red and you could fill this to both -infinity and +infinity then the whole graph would be colored red...
If you meant for the colors to be different an easy work around is to the set either the -infinity or +infinity and then color the background of the graph to the other color:

  • Inter-area TE and L1/L2 ISIS routers

I am a little bit confused when we talked about inter-area TE and L1/L2 ISIS routers.
I have 8 L1/L2 routers in a partial mesh, these routers belong to different ISIS areas.
As I understand ISIS implements a topology table for the L2 routes and thus a TE Tunnel is always possible between L1/L2 routers even if they belong to different area ids.
Inter-area TE only solves the issue for tunnels between L1 only routers belongging to different areas.
Am I correct? Can I go forward and configure a TE tunnel between L1/L2 routers in different areas?
    Thanks, Roque

So I guess what you mean is that I do not have to worry about setting up inter-area Tunnels because L1/L2 routers knows the core topology?
