BT Infinity and loss of caller display information

I have BT Infinity installed on my telephone line and getting some good results with speed.
However, ever since I have had this installed I have had intermittent issues with my cordless phones displaying caller display information.
Where as before the BT Infinity installation I uses to receive either a telephone number or the name of the person (if stored in the phone memory) now I am receiving 'unavailable'  atleast 50% of the time..
Has anyone else got this issue or has managed to solve the problem?
It cannot be a reset issue as I have wifi issues and restart the HH once a week or so!..
Thanks in advance
ickle1999

Hi Ickle1999,
Welcome to the forum and thank you for posting. There is nothing in the Infinity Broadband that should stop your caller display from working correctly. It could be a case that the numbers that are showing up as unavailable has simply been blocked by the person making the call.
If you would like I can run a few tests on your line. Please could you drop me an email with your BT account details and link to this thread. My email address can be found by clicking on my profile.
Cheers

  • Loss of Caller Display faciility

For no reason I have lost caller display despite paying for it, I have had it for several years. In desparation after 3 weeks contact with the famous Indian team I am told that the service will be provided free for 12 months as I agreed a new 12 line rental contract - not true, so I have had to writte again :-
This is the third time that I have been told that the caller display will work again, I have had it for years and it stopped working as long ago as the 27th February. Also I did not ask ior or agree to a new 12 months line rental contract because the only way to get caller display back could well be to change suppliers which I had to do to get reliable broadband - I migrated to PlusNet 3 years ago from BT. Tell me what the legal position is from your point of view before I seek professional advice,.
I guess this must happen all of ther time so if anyone out there can help please respond.

  • Old caller display CD1500

I have an old BT CD1500 unit which has inch high numbers and letters and includes a 70 number directory of names which displays instead of the number, a brilliant bit of kit, mine has been working for many years on an ordinary line, then later with BT Broadband.
I just had BT infinity fibre broadband installed, and the last call displayed was the Openreach Engineer to say he was on the way. The engineer did not check to see it was working before he left as he should have done.
When the CD stopped indicating new calls I rang to complain, but when we realised that the caller id on my cordless phone was still working Openreach told me the CD1500 was obsolete and there was nothing they could do. The CD1500 still showed the time correctly and indicated when the line was busy as normal, just no incoming calls indicated. Very suspicious that the equipment was working perfectly until the engineers came! After some research I uncovered the following vitally useful information.
Early BT caller display equipment usually will NOT work on Cable phone lines as they use a different signalling standard, later equipment is mostly dual standard, but you do need to check before switching providers. Mind you most sales people BT or cable company have no idea of this.
The thing that brought my CD1500 back to life was when I discovered that the unit is polarity conscious. For most modern phone equipment it does not matter which way round the incoming pairs of the phone line are connected although this used not to be true, old BT pay hones and the now obsolete party lines were dependant on the line pair being connected the right way round, but not any longer. As a result most Openreach engineers are lax about ensuring that lines are connected with correct polarity, and this does not usually matter, but it does matter with early caller display equipment like the CD1500.
This was easily fixed and hey presto incoming calls are now displayed as before.
Of course only Openreach engineers are allowed to mess with the line in this way, so unless you are absolutely sure you know what to do then don't, because you won't want to pay Openreach' wickedly exorbitant call out fees to fix any problems you may encounter. They should however agree to send someone out free of charge to swap the wires as they caused the problem in the first case, but you do need to be sure this is the cause of the problem first. It is scandalous that you may be expected to agree to pay to find out if the problem is something as simple and preventable as this.
So if you have elderly BT caller display gear that suddenly stops working especially after engineering attention to your line then the polarity may be the reason.

The CD 1500 is not compatible with broadband, due to the fact that the filters in the equipment, cannot pass the correct signalling conditions. This has been known about since broadband was first implemented. I had a CD 1500, which stopped working when I got broadband, a long time ago.
If you need a stand-alone caller display, then all of the new models will cope with the DTMF data burst which is transmitted along the line, before the first burst of ringing current.

  • Caller Display Problems

Hello, I recently rejoined BT for home telephone and broadband having been with talk talk and O2. I have had a bit of a mare with the Infinity and phone install but it is done now. I have contacted BT about caller display that was included with my package. They stated it would be active on Monday 27th Feb. It was not. Contacted them again and they said it would be active on 28th. It was not and again, I contacted them yesterday and despite assurances caller display is still not active.
I have done the *#234# test which says caller ID will be displayed. I have some rather expensive Gigaset SL78H digital handsets. Caller display worked with O2 and Talk Talk but it will not work with BT. Is this handset compatible with the caller display servie provided by BT? It worked with my previous phone line providers.
The phone is plugged into the master socket via a network. I have removed the ADSL filters as I was advised to do but to no avail. I am at my wits end now.
    Thank You for any help.
    Neil

I have just joined this forum out of sheer frustration at our Caller Display still not working after almost three weeks, numerous phone calls, online chats etc., from advisors insisting it would be up and running again in 12/24 hours or whatever.  Yesterday, someone even said I should go and buy a new phone! to try out the equipment again before they send out an engineer.  Bought a new phone, keyed in some numbers, got them to phone the land line and it still came up Unavailable. I even took a phone call from BT on the new phone so it proves that the new one works.  All the phone calls I have had with BT advisors have been from people overseas I think, and I don't think they can grasp the fact that the Caller Privacy ID is still on i.e. our landline number does not come up on other people's phones and all our directory entries are listed in our phone and we can use them to dial out.  Dialling out and receiving phone calls is still ok. They are now saying an engineer will have to come out but I know for a fact it is nothing to do with our phone itself.  I don't want a bill of £130.00 if he finds nothing wrong with it.  I am  at the end of my tether.
All this would have been avoided I think if we still had BT shops in the local high street.
    Any ideas anyone?

  • Caller Display - Privacy at Home - unable to order

I would like to order Privacy at Home. I have tried to order online, via my account, but I don’t think this has been accepted. I kept getting error messages at the end of the process.
I have been trying to access my ‘Calling Features’ online for two days. Each time I get the message:
“Sorry, we can't change your Calling Features at the moment.
Sorry, we can't access your account information at the moment. Please try again later.”
    I have tried telephoning the order line - 0800 916 5544 – quoted here:
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8098
and get the message:  “the number you have dialed has not been recognised”.
I have called this number numerous times.
I have sent feedback to this effect twice.
I have completed the pop-up survey on the BT website and repeated the information.
If the online ordering isn’t working, and the ordering phone number isn’t correct, how am I going to order this feature?
I am already registered with TPS and simply want caller display. Perhaps someone here could help me?

  • Caller display work with double adapter?

Following our alarm installation, we need to have it connected to the phone line to alert us if it is triggered whilst out.
Since using a double adapter/splitter, our caller display no longer works.
Is there any way to have both the house alarm and phone connected to the phone line and have the caller display work?
    Any assistance is appreciated.

The belt and braces way of doing this is to contact 150 and get an engineer out to put an alarm block on the line.  This is generally just a small box and allows you to hardwire the alarm onto the line before the NTE5.
With splitters, I think it is a case of trial and error to find one that doesn't affect the Caller ID tone.
Is the splitter plugged into a microfilter?  It could be the microfilter is stopping to caller ID tone and this needs to be replaced.

  • Free 12 months Privacy and Caller Display

Do I need to contact BT to find out when my 12 month expires? I cannot find the information on 'My BT' or my bills. Do you think that the offer will be renewed?

You will need to contact them, they will not contact you. You will go onto a monthly rolling contract and any discounts you had will stop.
If you contact Live Chat they will tell you when your contract is finished.

  • Evening and weeknd packages and caller display

My BT contract is up in a few months. Currently I'm using the line rental saver option and have a 2 year old deal which is:
    40GB broadband
    Evening and weekend calls
    Anytime calls add-on
and the £1.78 a month charge for caller display (after BT removed their BT privacy package)
Now, looking up the new packages I notice that evening and weekend calls are no longer offered, with weekend only and anytime the only options. Is this correct?
Also, is there any way of having the caller display option without having to pay £2 a month?

When considering renewal, be aware that BT have a nasty habit of hiking up the prices of obsolete bundles.  The Tarriff Guide has a bewildering array of obsolete tarriffs, all at different prices http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumer/assets/downloads/BT_PhoneTariff_Residential.pdf
A broadband package and a calls package may be a completely different price to a combined broadband and calls package.  Sometimes two apparently identical packages can have completely different prices, just because they have different names.

  • 150 and Caller Display Problem

Probably the easiest one to start with. When I dial "150" all I get is a recored message saying - "Sorry you cannot call that nunber from this line. Please ontact your service provider using the number given in their documentation"
    What's that all about?
Secondly I added/ordered the "Bt Privacy" service last week but as of now the caller display aspect still isn't working. Do I need to wait longer or is it likely that there's been a problem?
    Thanks in advance.

  • When on a phone call and an incoming call rings in the display does not show who is calling in. My phone used to that and allow me an option to answer why?

When on a phone call and a second call rings in you do not see who it is or given the option to answer or ignore the call. My phone did that previously. Why would this be?

My phone is doing exactly the same thing... I tried changing the language as someone else suggested but it didn't work. It is very frustrating!!
