BT Infinity Dropping Out on Ethernet and wireless ...

Dear BT,
I have been a customer for over 5 years at my current address my telephone number: xxxxxxxxxx.
I was the first person in my street to have BT Infinity installed however over the past 5-6 months I have experienced problems daily.
I have raised several calls to the BT Helpdesk.  I have had to updated firmware on my BT Vision BOX had a replacement Router sent out but my problems are still occurring.  I keep having to go through the same scenarios of resetting my modem resetting my router and this has happened three to four times daily!
The quality of service I am receiving is very poor to say the least and I am seriously considering changing internet Providers.  I am a fully qualified network engineer and computer specialist so I can see my way around IT issues.
When I experience my Broadband drop outs I am using an Ethernet connection on one PC and using wireless on other Tablets so the drop outs effect both wireless and wired connection.  I still have all the blue lights on my router and my equipment is still connected but no internet broadband access.
The BT helpdesk keep telling me to use a Pin to reset my Router or Change my wireless channel.  This process of changing the wirless channel will obviously effect only my wireless connection not my Ethernet.
I have been told on separate occasions that the issue is on the BT server side,  the Exchange, my home hub router was faulty (replacement installed)  and finally that there is no problem with my equipment.
My wife received a call from BT Level 2 however they stated they could not see an issue.  My wife said we are having Broadband dropouts several times a day and demanded an engineer visit and sort our connection issue out.  Level 2 refused.  My wife requested to speak to a supervisor but Level 2 said no supervisor was available.
I want to express that I am very unhappy and demand this is rectified with next 5-6 days or I will change providers.  I am currently out of contract and would like a fully working service with no faults before I decide to renew with BT.  To that end I require an engineer to Visit my property to assess my connection issue.  I would also like to be compensated for the poor quality of service received from BT over this issue.
If BT had the curtesy to send an engineer then my fault may be rectified.
Please contact me as soon as possible about this issue.  The clock is ticking and I will leave BT if not rectified by Friday the 25th of October 2013.

I recently had dropouts, but in my case my download and upload speeds dropped to 0.00mbs down, 0.00mbs up, ping 20.3ms.
Normal browsing was unaffected, email's were OK as long as they had no attachments. BT (India) had no luck passed me to Techheads they had no luck, said they had to test the line. No calls from them. Newcastle took over after another call they arranged an engineer visit. Engineer arrived ,he had never seen this problem before and none of his speed checks worked at all ! However when he examined my setup he asked if the White router had been exchanged, It had been last year, but that engineer did not swop the plug top power supply (it was black). New power supply fitted, every thing immediately was back to normal. So it looks like failing power supplies can cause strange events. This may or not Help

  • Both ethernet and wireless time-out trying to connect

I'm having a problem with getting my laptops' IP assigned by dhcp. Both over ethernet and wireless.
I have no problem connecting to my WPA connection at home, but now I'm at my parents for a week or two, it refuses to connect to their WEP network.
To connect to my WPA network I run this script from rc.local, which works fine on startup.
    ifconfig ra0 up
    iwconfig ra0 essid *********
    iwconfig ra0 ap **:**:**:**:**:**
    iwconfig ra0 rate auto
    iwconfig ra0 channel auto
    iwconfig ra0 mode Managed
    iwconfig ra0 txpower auto
    iwpriv ra0 set AuthMode=WPAPSK
    iwpriv ra0 set EncrypType=AES
    iwpriv ra0 set WPAPSK=***************************************
    iwpriv ra0 set TxRate=0
    dhcpcd ra0
So for the WEP network, I have commented all that out and changed rc.conf like so:
    lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
    eth0="dhcp"
    ra0="dhcp"
    wlan_ra0="ra0 essid ***** key *******************"
    WLAN_INTERFACES=(ra0)
    INTERFACES=(lo eth0 ra0)
    gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
    ROUTES=(!gateway)
But when I try to connect it just returns "Error, ra0: timed out".
I have also tried modifying rc.local (appropriately i think), but that seems to time-out too.
This wouldn't be so bad if I had the option to connect by ethernet, but that doesnt work either! It also times out, just like the wireless. I don't think it is the router, as all the other computers in the house work fine, both wired and wireless. But I don't think it's a driver issue either, as I can see all the AP's in kismet, and also I used the ethernet port when I first installed Arch a couple of months ago. I assume it's dodgy config files or clashing commands or something, but I've looked in the wiki and other forums etc, and I can't see what I'm doing wrong.
Any help would be very appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Paul

Make sure about the addresses for the LAN the router at your parents is using - they are not necessarily the same.

  • How to install Ethernet and Wireless adapters after fresh install

My laptop's hard disk died. I got a new hard disk and did a fresh install. But I can't see the Ethernet and Wireless icons on the tray. I am assuming that I have to install those drivers. How do I go about that?
    Terry

The easiest way is to download
1, Go to Lenovo's support site, find the driver matrix for your model of ThinkPad, download the Ethernet driver, and install it.
    2. Then download and install ThinkVantage System Update.
    3. Run TVSU and let it find and install all the drivers, utilities, etc. that you need.
You'll also want to do a Microsoft Update at the Microsoft site.

  • How Do I Network Multiple Base Stations Using Ethernet AND Wireless?

Hi, everyone. I am having great difficulty setting up a network using multiple Airport Extreme base stations that are connected using both ethernet and wireless connections. I have one main base station connected to a cable modem, and I want to create a unified network and share its internet connection with three other base stations: one that is connected on an ethernet network, one connected to it wirelessly, and the fourth that would be connected wirelessly to the base station on the ethernet network.
The "Designing Airport Networks" manual explains how to build roaming networks of base stations that are connected to one another via ethernet. And it also explains how to build a WDS of wirelessly connected base stations. What it doesn't explain is how to build a network employing both ethernet AND wireless!
I spent most of today trying to get the base stations to work in various configurations to no avail. I could get part of the network working, but not all of it. I'm at the point where I'm going to need to do a hard, factory reset on all the base stations and start over, but I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions for me. Any help would be incredibly appreciated! Thanks so much...

If you have stations connected via Ethernet and want them to appear as a single seamless wireless network, configure them as follows:
    Same SSID (network name).
Different channels. As far apart as possible.
    Same wireless encryption type/level/password.
Only the base station connected to the Internet source distributes IP addresses. All the others are configured as bridges.
If you have stations connected wirelessly using WDS and want them to appear as a single seamless wireless network, configure them as follows:
    Same SSID (network name).
    Same channel.
    Same wireless encryption type/level/password.
It appears that you want to mix the 2 type of connections. This is easily done and here is a simple example:
    base1 Ethernet base2
In this example base1 and base 2 are configured as I suggested above for Ethernet connections.
    Now add base3 connected wirelessly:
    base1 Ethernet base2 wireless base3
Now base2's configuration must be modified slightly so that it acts as a WDS main. base3 is configured to act as a WDS remote (or relay).
No changes are needed to base1 since it is completely unaware and uninvolved in the WDS link between base2 and base3.

  • How to configure use of Ethernet and wireless simultaneously, with different Windows´s?

    Hello friends,
My network has two Win XP-laptops connected via ethernet to a Dovado-router, and from the Dovado-router another ethernet cable to a Win 7 PC.
The Win 7 PC connects to the internet via a D-Link wireless network to my ISP wireless router Huawei E589.
Problem: the PC refuses to work with both ethernet and wireless at the same time.
I use the ethernet for tranferring vast amounts of graphical data (astronomy photographs at 3-4 GB each), and I can only access the internet through the wireless. Neither XP nor 7 wizards are able to fix it. Both networks were visable in Network Center,
now only the wireless is available. Ethernet is gone.
What do I do, to make it work?

    Hi,
What's your purpose? My understanding is that you want Windows 7 PC wireless use internet and wired use Lan. If I am misunderstand please point me fault.
For the situation you can do like this:
    1) Setting for your both routers.
Make sure both routers have different Router IP's and SUBNETS, you should try to set the subnet of Dovado-router to 255.255.255.252(this router should be used as local Lan, not connect to internet).
Set the subnet of D-link to 255.255.255.0
    2) Setting For the LAN adapter.
Under the TCP/IP properties(Lan adapter),  please assign a unique IP address (which coincides with the subnet of Dovado-router ), set the subnet to 255.255.255.252 (or whatever you set it to Dovado-router). The very important things is that
don't assign any GATEWAY to Lan adapter, leave it blank.
    3) Setting For the WIRELESS adapter.
Under TCP/IP properties(wireless adapter), please assign a unique IP address (that coincides with the wireless router), set the subnet to 255.255.255.0 (or whatever the default is for the wireless router), and make sure to type gateway IP address ( D-link
    IP address).
Now you can test if they are work normally.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards.

  • Apple TV 2nd Gen - ethernet and wireless

Can you use ethernet and wireless connections at the same time?  I am trying to improve movie watching on Netflix and want a direct connection.  However, I dont want to give up wireless for music and photos, etc.

    No.
It's one or the other. Plugging an ethernet cable in will disable the wireless on the Apple TV.

  • Time Capsule wireless intermittent drop outs to PC and iPhone

I have a Time Capsule that we use in our home as a wireless router and back-up. It is connected to a Comcast cable modem only. It has worked well, but about a couple months ago we started to have issues. Our iMac sees the Time Capsule through the wireless fine and has no connectivity issues. However, my PC laptop, that used to connect wirelessly, now has issues keeping a connection and so does my iPhone. The two devices will see the network and connect, but the connection drops out after a minute or so, then reconnects, and the cycle continues. I am not sure what to do to fix this and it makes me even more confused since our iMac has no issues with the wireless connection. Has anyone experienced this issue? Thanks!

All that is Ok, and TIvo says I am hooked up correctly. THey say this is the problem, they can look at the box to see the error #.
The following ports (whether inbound or outbound) must be open to allow your TiVo box to communicate with the TiVo Servers, other TiVo boxes, and your Macintosh or Windows PC:
    TCP port 37

    TCP port 8200
    UDP port 37

  • [SOLVED] Can't get ethernet and wireless working on timelineX 3820TG

Hi folks I am new around here, but wanted to try arch for a while now.
So here is my problem and description :
I installed Arch (everything in order there and the guide is great! ), but when I come to the part of connecting to the internet I seem to be left without an option for internet conection. Which is strange because I have Ubuntu installed on the machine and wireless works (propriatary drivers) and ethernet kind of works (atheros driver).
Now from Ubuntu I know that for my wifi I need  the wl kernel module (Broadcom wireless card) and that I need the atl1c module for the Ethernet.
So here is some basic info about the machine:
installed image 2010.05 x64 with kernel:
    2.6.33-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu May 13 11:32:37 CEST 2010 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 450 @ 2.40GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
    ifconfig -a output :
    lo Link encap:Local Loopback
    inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
    UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
    RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
    collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
    RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
Even if I load the atl1c module the output is the same, I tried loading the atl1e instead. I also tried blacklisting atl1c and atl1e and adding them with modprobe command.
here are the two adapters (wireless and lan) :
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications AR8151 v1.0 Gigabit Ethernet (rev c0)
05:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation Device 4357 (rev 01)
    EDIT:
    Well...
After a quite extensive research I see that the atl1c and atl1e are quite buggy... so I guess in my case they won't work.
But I am not giving up yet...
all I need is internet conection (wireles or wired), so I did some research on the Broadcom 4357.
It turnes out that I can find it in the AUR repository. And there is also a tar from broadcom.
I also found this guide which describes how to install the driver.
    That however presents new problems...
make command output for the broadcom driver :
make: *** /lib/modules/"release"/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
while "makepgk" tells me that makepgk is not installed.
I also searched in the packages section for build-essential, makepgk... but found nothing relevant. Maybe I did something wrong ?
Any Ideas on how to get it all working and compile the driver? (preferably with the files from AUR)
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks. i found this one: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19514
that's too bad. i was hoping i wouldn't have to use it, but maybe i have no choice.
but now that broadcom has released the driver as open source (see this: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.ker … ral/55418), will broadcom-wl become obsolete?

  • BT Infinity dropping out constantly

I've had BT Infinity since April had some teething problems when I realised the speed drops when using wifi/home plugs and got equipment ungraded to help with this although there's still a drop in speed when not directly LAN cabled in (which is difficult if not impossible in my property).
Anyway I accept this since BT are getting 80mps to the router.
Next problem is that from around the end of June my connection started dropping several times an hour. When it does this new pages go blank or I can't connect. Lights at the hub remain constant as if no problem there. This happens even when I'm cabled in (LAN) so know it's not a wifi/home plug issue.
I've been through customer service several times, we've checked settings at my pc/laptop, we've reset home hub. BT then suggested I needed HH4 which was released only weeks after I had my FO upgrade but to get it I either had to pay over £100 or go into a new contract. At the time I was so desperate I didn't notice I was being moved from free calls 24/7 to free calls only at weekends. Anyway I was put into the new contract and didn't read the blurb because I trusted I was being kept the same or equivalent and I just wanted my broadband to be fixed. The HH arrived and it still was dropping out. BT said must be faulty HH4 so sent a replacement. Same thing happening with new one.
I'm pretty much fed up and wish I'd never upgraded, it's been problem after problem. I still have iplayer interrupted and half the time I am sitting here waiting for the thing to reconnect.
I have spoken to a couple of other people and they say their FO (FTTC around here) is also dropping out but they don't seem to be complaining. Is this something to do with too many people on the network - some times of day are better/worse than others.
I am really fed up of this, have spent a long time trying to fix it and just wish BT would say "Yes it's our lines" but everytime they say the line test comes back fine. People in my area are crying out for FO but I don't think it's as good as made out.
I've not changed anything in the time that it took for it to start dropping out (well apart from upgrading wireless cards and home plugs), I just got up one morning and it started doing it. I am now in a contract which doesn't suit my calling pattern, and that I can't get out of to go anywhere else, and I feel if I did the service would just be the same anyway. Every time I see a BT Infinity advert I feel very frustrated. My copper wire service was better, slower but it was consistent.
I have phoned and even used the email service to complain about this, but all I got in reply to the email was a phone call when I was driving and unable to use my phone, they left voicemail and sent an email which basically said you knew the T&C of the new package from the email we sent when changing to it, and BT Infinity is dealt with by the technical help which you can phone on 0800...........thanks BT.
    Very annoyed and fed up.

I posted on the other thread because I thought the problem was similar and because despite there being plenty of other replies on other threads mine hadn't received a reply yet and was falling off the front page. Apologies for my impatience.
Sorry if it looks like I posted contradictory information for clarity this is the situation.
I didn't have any drop outs when I switched off the hub and connected my laptop directly to the modem with the LAN cable.
When using the HH4 I get constant drop outs both when cabling in via LAN to the hub, or if I use wifi. So it's not just a wifi problem the drop outs happen when I cable into the hub and infact there's only one device I use wifi (laptop) and whether I LAN or not when the hub is used I still get the drop outs.
The drop outs started in June when I had a HH3, so BT went through all the resets, channel changes etc and sent me a HH4 which involved me entering into a new contract. There were still drop outs so I went through channel changes, reseting/restarting the hub, still drop outs so they sent me a replacement HH4. It's still dropping and doesn't matter whether I connect via LAN or wifi the drop outs still happen just the same. The only time they stopped was when I did what was suggested on the other thread, turned the hub off and connected via the modem. Since then I've reconnected the hun and back to the usual drop outs which are around 3 per hour.

  • Sound Dropping Out in Monitors and Timeline (R3D and .wav files in 5.5) - More RAM Needed?

    Hi there,
I have an HP desktop that I’ve edited two feature films on, the first shot on the HVX200 (edited with CS4) and the second shot on the Canon 5D (edited with CS5). About to edit a new feature, shot at 4K on the Red Scarlet, using CS5.5.
I THINK I know what needs to happen here, but basically, at anything higher than 1/8 resolution, the footage is playing back slow, and then, when I synch up with my .wav sound files, the sound is dropping out after a second (unless I scale to frame in the timeline only, in which case the render bar goes from red to yellow and the sound remains, even if the picture is still choppy). Basically married image and sound will not play back properly unrendered.
So, I guess what I’m asking is: does this sound like a RAM issue? Should I go for 16? I currently have 8. There’s a lot going on on this computer. (Specs are below.)
One final question, albeit a more minor one: why does the frame Fit properly in the Source Monitor but need a Scale to Fit instruction every time to fill the Project Monitor? Is there a way to make an entire Sequence Scale to Fit permanently?
Again, my computer specs are below.
    Thanks!
    Stephen
    HP Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz
    918 GB
    8.0 GB Physical Memory
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (64-bit)
    Service Pack 2
ATI Radeon HD 4850 (recently updated)
512 MB Memory (since updated to CS5.5 specifications)

There is still not enough ram in the listed PC, and the 530 is a poor choice. Nvidia list the memory type as DDR3, where you want a card with DDR5. You can get a suitable system for close to the price that is listed. You want to look at Harms hardware guide, and likely shop a custom builder.
    You want
    CoreI7 or high end I5
Minimum 12 gb memory for HD editing
Minimum 2 physical drives (system & media)
gtx card with at least 1gb ddr5 memory.( I would shop for more memory for 4K footage ) The more CUDA core, the better.
I spent a little more than you or I really wanted to spend on my CS5.5 box $1400 However it works brilliantly.
    Core I5 2500k
    16gb memory
    2x 74GB 10K raptor drives raid0 system drives
    2TB media drive
    GTX 560Ti 1GB with 384 CUDA cores.
You could shave this system down to under $1k for something that works great.
The GTX555 seems like the base level card to me. A GT or lower spec card  might be a gamble.
Look at gamer machine builders rather than prebuilt desktops. They let you choose parts. That is where to start shopping.

  • Audio drop out in Encore AND Premiere

Strange problem. I am trying to burn a dvd with Encore. All the files play fine in QT, all the audio is there. once in Encore, it randomly picks clips to not play audio AT ALL. Sometimes it will play part of a clip then drop out audio. I have re installed and tried several tricks, like bringing files into Premiere Pro to render out a different file type. Now my premiere wont play the audio randomly either and the file produced has no audio! all other audio/video apps running fine. Not sure if its a Adobe Production Studio problem or a glitch in my system, thou as I said, rest of system works fine.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
    Steve

Well, thanks for reply but I got it to work after several work arounds, thou my Adobe products still seem to be working strange(Not opening as I closed them, etc.)
So, foe giggles, here was what I was working with.
I digitized some footage from a digibeta into my Avid where I exported Quick Time reference files to be used in After Effects.
In After Effects I exported Quick Time Movies with Blackmagic codec,8bit, with 4800k audio, uncompresed. All where NTSC 29.97. Files play in Quick Time/Windows media player no prob.
Installed Blackmagic codec on my home system for the final build with Encore2.0 DVD and thats when all the fun started. Encore would play files fine but then start to randomly drop out audio at burn.
To solve this I pulled QT's into Premiere Pro2.0 and exported WAV files to swap out for in Encore. This almost worked until Premiere started to mimic the Encore problems with random audio drop out.
After several retarts of the programs ( they would both have ASIO driver problems and quit audio. I replaced my driver, still same problem. whew!)I got the files all rendered.
Wow, still with me? Thanks! so long story I finally got the QT re rendered in Premiere to DV files that worked fine in Encore.Still think I have a system bug or somethig due to the fact these programs and Photoshop too are acting "wonky", crashing out or locking up, etc.
Thanks for the intrest!! any suggestions on system checks would be great!

  • Why can't the 6700 support both ethernet and wireless simultaneously?

I have two desktop computers connected to my wirless router/cable modem via ethernet and two laptops that connect via wireless.  Can I configure my new 6700 to accept both?

    Hi,
Any consumer product support either Ethernet or Wireless connection, the connections cannot be used simultanly..
However connecting the pritner to your network (either by Ethernet or Wireless) will allow installing the printer on ANY pc connected to the same network, either by Wireless opr Ethernet connection..
Once the printer connected to your network, simply install the CD on any of your computers...
    hope that clarifies,

  • HT2822 I want to use my Apple TV on ethernet and wireless...

I watch iTunes programs on TV via my Apple TV and prefer an ethernet connection for transfer speed and reliability, but I also want to watch live (internet) TV via my iPAD through Apple TV Airplay and this requires a wireless connection.
I don't seem to be able to do this switch automatically on an as required basis, as Apple TV prioritises the ethernet connection and drops the wireless,so I've had to revert to a wireless connection for both scenarios in lieu of tedious manual switching from one to the other and back.
Can anyone suggest a better way.
I have a wireless modem router and Powerline adaptors around the house. Apple TV is latest generation.
    iPad3 is on latest iOS.
    pc is Win 8.1.
    iTunes is 11.1.5.5.
    Thanks

I assure you it only needs to connect to your network via one or the other.
Then there is an issue with AirPlay.

    Nope.
LAN is local area network or the ethernet connections for your network.
WLAN is wide are network and refers to your connection to the internet.

  • Diary of Infinity dropping out

Well it looks like the honeymoon is over.
Installed on the 29th June and have had consistent speeds of about 36/37Mb down and about 7/8Mb up with a consistent IP profile of 38717, and happy as a bunny.
29th July I noticed broadband started dropping, broadband light going to orange then a minute or so later going back to blue. Openreach modem lights appear okay. After a couple of hours of this I spoke to India and they did there usual line check and rang back and in the end asked me to do the usual factory reset. It appeared to be okay, they said that they would keep checking the line.
Over the next couple of days kept on doing the BT Speedtest and it showed that the speeds were as normal , also the IP profile was still at 38717
1st August , in the evening I saw that the broadband light on the Home Hub3 was again going to orange, then back to blue a minute later, this was going on few an hour or so.
2nd August, woke up to see the broadband light dropping of and on again. On the phone to India again and after explaining what was happening and there obligatory line test, they said that they were passing it over to the engineers who would be in touch within 24/48hrs.
After speaking to India I did a speed test and it now shows 30.646Mb down and an IP Profile of 33280.
I will keep this updated with the progress of the fault .
[edit]  2nd August 11.20am , 3 hours after reporting the fault and with them telling me that it was being passed to the engineers who would contact me within 24/48hrs, guess what!!!!
    They tell me its fixed.

    Sorry to hear that.
Hope things get sorted eventually, it worked well well past it's 10 day stabilisation... assuming Infinity has this monitoring period.
    So something must have happened/changed.
I always used to keep spare routers etc to eliminate things I could.... but now there are two boxes.
I must admit I feel a bit "out of control" now that I do not have any router stats to look at anymore.
It was handy to see the disconections, snr changes and even line attenuation changes after a reconnection.
I thought Infinity had UK support? or maybe that was in the early setting up days.
    Anyhow wish you luck
Edit Serves you right for shooting me the other day.....lol.
You can still eliminate a rouer problem by connecting directly to the modem. The beauty of having 2 boxes rather than one "all in one".
Can't remember who posted this but here's how to connect direct to the modem.
Set network card ip to 192.168.1.75 /255.255.255.0
    set gateway to 0.0.0.0
    set dns to auto
    New network connection wizard.
1/ connect to internet : next
2/ set up my connection manualy :next
    3/ pppoe connection :next
4/name of connection :- Infinity :next
5/ phone number , none :next
6/ user name : take from modem user name , no password  :next
7/ add short cut to desktop :next
    8 finish.
put cat 5 lead into modem
click on link and will connect .
