BT infinity FTTP

I’m very anxious to get “BT infinity” in fact I check samknows.com at least once a week to see if my activation date has been moved closer, today I was very happy to see its being moved from the 01.06/12 to 01/03/12.
I’ve also checked online and downloaded the “PCP to post code” spread sheet and it says the following.
Exchange Melrose gate  “MYYO” - {MYYO}{p12} Uplift 3.63 Deployed, FTTP
Note it says “FTTP” not “FTTC”. I’ve just bought a brand new, new build apartment in town. As its brand new will it already be fibre enabled, hence why it says “FTTP” and not “FTTC” as all the others do.
Can someone also please explain the uplift situation to me, I’m currently on a 6.5MB connection. So does an 3.63 uplift mean in percentage or speed, eg  6.5mb + an uplift of 3.63mb =13MB ish.
Thanks

If you guys out there know your cabinet number, but not its location, eg street address, have a look around your local area. Most have the cabinet number written on the box it’s self
I've emailed BT customer service reguarding the infinity service, this is the response I’ve got.
“I am sorry to learn you are having trouble finding some information on the BT infinity service, I’ve looked into this for you and can see that your actual exchange is due to be upgraded on the 1/03/2012, however your local cabinet isn’t due to be upgraded until the 3rd of that month, Your cabinet number is 46”
Now there is a cabinet at the end of my street and it’s got a number 46 written on it Its right outside my house, around 100 meters away. Hopefully I’ll get the full 40mb download speed.

  • Best Router for Infinity FTTP

    Hi,
Can anyone advise on alternative routers for Infinity Fibre to the Premises as the Home hub 3 is a bit basic. Obviously it needs to support PPPoE, but I could also use something that would allow my to establish IPSec VPN's to a Cisco 3000 concentrator, as well as the usual security configurations and a decent DHCP server that allows for additional options such as TFTP server to be configured.

This is a thread of some, but don't know if they are any good for FTTP Fibre To The Premise.
I believe there is a FTTP forum you could check in with and perhaps get confirmation.

  • FTTP coming in December but what are the packages?

    Hi all,
My exchange is down for FTTP in Dec this year which I guess means I can get access to BT Infinty option 3 and 4. Unfortunately on the BT website you can't see those options unless you can already get FTTP!
Can anyone enlighten me as to what the packages are and how much they cost so I can prepare the groundwork with the wife?
    Many thanks
    Barry

And Infinity options 1 and 2 are also available with FTTP.
This is the link about BT Infinity FTTP options 3 and 4: http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/broadband/faster-internet unfortunately I can't seem to find the prices however as pottyperson has said the options team will be your best bet to get a good deal.
Also the number for BT Retail FTTP sales is 0800 587 4787 in case you need it.

  • Time capsule not working with ppoe after latest airport update

I've just updated installed the latest airport update from apple and now my time capsule will not connect to the intenet vie PPoE via a BT Infinity FTTP modem.  The only thing that has changed is the software update.  Any ideas?

Tivo and Roku may really need upnp which is not provided by the apple router.
But to test this properly are you double NATting.. if you have an existing modem router did you bridge it before connecting the TC.
Tell us exactly what broadband you have, and what make and model is your modem?? Is it working as router??
If the TC is also working as router it should be fixed to work as bridge mode.
More info and we can get you going.

  • Its not all doom and gloom!

Ok, I'm coming to the end of my first week with BT Infinity and as these forums seem to be filled with tales of woe I thought I'd post something positive!
My Infinity FTTP 40Mb order went smoothly up until the engineer install which required a replacement ONT to get me going, but everything was handled professionally, the engineers turned up on time and always phoned ahead to check that I was ready. I was so blown away by the performance of the 40 MB service that I immediately went online to order the 100Mb service. The system advised that the 100mb service would go live in 2 days, and sure enough at 10am two days later I went to speedtest.net and my speed showed 102mb down 15.09 up I use a VPN to my companies network and the upgrade did not even break my connection!
    Bravo BT!
On the down side I'm really mindful of a huge digital divide forming, where I have friends on the other side of town who cant even get reliable 512k ADSL

That pretty much sums up my feelings also. I did find that doing a restore, after day one helped my slowdowns a lot. People who are experiencing problems with lag should try doing a restore in iTunes.
**** it is better than when 2.0 came out, it was hard to even use my iPhone after the 2.0 update.
    Cheers,

  • Is there going to be an increase in speed any time...

is there going to be an increase in speed any time soon ?

    Hi ghostzz
As said in your previous post here (http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/fttp-fttp-in-Edinburgh/m-p/1076720/highlight/true#M116509 ) there will probably be no improvement to the Openreach FTTC fibre infrastructure soon, though if ISPs take up the FTTPoD service and your exchange is FTTPoD enabled then you maybe able to pay for FTTP to be installed to your property. Though at the moment FTTPoD have not been taken up by any ISPs/CPs.
Also the upto 76mbps is an UP To figure. This will be dependent on your line quality and how long your line is between your property and your FTTC dslam cabinet.
There are also other limitation which can effect the sync and througput speed.

  • BT Infinity Option 4 FTTP/FTTH - Where is the spee...

Recently I had FTTP/FTTH installed at my house and I have BT Infinity Option 4 300mbps. So far the connection hasn't even gone over 90mbps (normally runs between 50mbps and 80mbps) and I have now already paid my first bill and not even got half of the god **bleep** speed that I am paying for.
When will the speed be sorted? There is no point in me paying that money for Infinity Option 4 when I could just pay much less for the other packages and get the same speed I am getting now!
Installation was finished and activated on 16/06/2014.

  • BT Infinity, Netgear6300 and Sonos

I have just swapped a BT HH3 router for a Netgear R6300.  All PC's, tablet computers, phones connect fine to the new router with super fast connectivity on the 5G network. However when I hardwire in my Sonos system, everthing goes awry.
There is a Play 5 is connected to router, and NAS to the Play 5.  2 further Sonos amps connected wirelessly to the Play 5.   I can no longer access internet radio, plus the various PCs and Ipads around the house start to lose their wireless connections (which go to "Limited Connectivity".  If I unplug the Play 5 from the Netgear router the rest of the wireless network works fine, replug it in, network to the PC's.  Also, when the system is connected up to the Netgear router I can no longer see the NAS from any PC's - reappears if I go back to HH3.
I've cycled the power on all the Sonos units/PCs etc between each router changer over.
The Netgenie app indicates that all the PC's connect fine to the router, it's more that the onward connection to the Openreach modem falls over when the Sonos is connected ?
    Any ideas please ?

The 330/20 product was withdrawn by Openreach last month.
BT still advertise a 300/20 product (http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/broadband/packages?fttp=yes) so is either a mistake or capped upload.
My neighbour is on Infinity 4 and looking at his speed tests, it looks a capped upload to me.

    Hi Ged
    • Upgrade your computer to ‘N’ standard wireless hardware. If needed, buy a suitable N wireless adaptor from BT atwww.bt.com/nwireless
    • Keep your computer streamlined eg. by running our ‘PC Healthcheck’ app (part of BT’s Desktop Help software atwww.bt.com/desktophelp)
    • Reserve wireless for mobile devices, use Ethernet for main computer
    • Consider powerline adaptors for longer ranges

How soon after an exchange goes live with Infinity will BT allow other providers to sell Fibre To The Cabinet services from that exchange? My existing ISP is waiting to announce pricing details to me so I can make an informed choice. Thanks

Are we able to get fastpath on BT infinity,or will this ever be available ?
    7:12
    Martin S.:
i Neil. When Openreach enables an exchange for fibre, all internet service providers are able to use that service equally - so other ISPs should be able to offer their fibre products at the same time as BT Retail's Infinity product
    7:12
    KerryG:
Thanks for all the great questions coming through guys... answers being typed as we speak!
    7:13
    Charles:
Hi Paul, We don't support Fastpath on BT infinity at the moment, I'm afraid.
    7:13
    Comment From Helen
I've recently upgraded to Infinity 2. The ethernet connection is fine, but the wifi is constantly dropping. I have an old Homehub 2 , which we had for total broadband, will it work, so I can test the wifi.

    Hi all
    7:15
    Martin S.:
Neil - also its worth remembering that when an exchange is enabled for fibre, this does not automatically mean that all cabinets and lines connected to that exchange are also enabled, which might explain if your exchange has been enabled but your line is not appearing as eligible yet
    7:16
    Comment From Kevin
Whats the upgrade path from fttc to fttp does it mean a new contract or can we just expect it to migrate?
    7:17
    KerryG
Out of interest...are those on the chat existing Infinity customers or people thinking about it?
    7:18
    Charles
Hi Helen, your wireless should work ok on your Hub 2, though our more recent Hub 3 is better. If you're expereincing drop outs, it's usually a sign of radio interference. Have you any powerline adaptors you could use instead?
    7:18
    Comment From Neil Potter
Thanks Martin - Workmen recently dug up the path outside my driveway to install FTTC so I know it's there  My exchange goes live on 30th June - I can't wait!I have another question: I'm in the process of consolidating my TV, Telephone and Broadband into one bundle. The "BT Vision Unlimited" looks ideal.
    7:19
    Comment From Paul
Is there a estimated date that fast path will be available ?
    7:19
    Martin S.
Hi Kevin - Due to the structure of how fibre has been deployed, your line will either be FTTC or FTTP; there is no way to change your technology type. If you mean 'how do you move to the faster 80mb product (on FTTC)?', this can be done using the links on BT.com
    7:19

Why are you fitting 2 separate items a modem and a wireless router? cant we have a combined unit, without the need for 2 adaptors and sockets its not the tidiest install
    7:21
    Comment From Chris
Regarding the Infinity installation, is it mandatory for the BT O/R Engineerer to have access to your PC?
    7:22
    Martin S.
Hi Chris - It is not mandatory, but we recommend allowing the engineer to show you on your own equipment your fantastic new speeds!

    Comment From Simon
hi, im trying to setup port forwarding to my old draytek, as it has more powerful wirelelss capabaility then the bt homehub, is it possible
    7:23
    KerryG
Hi Simon - that sounds like a great question for the forum boards, the Draytek is not a BT product so we can go into detail here in this chat, but there will be lots of people who i'm sure can help in the forum.
    7:24
    Charles
Evening Kevin, for BT Infinity is based on thecurrent FTTC product offered by BT Openreach, which comprises the VDSL modem provided by Openreach and the Home Hub 3 provided by Retail. If/when Openreach move to supporting a single box solution, then we would look to moving to that. Openreach will shortly be trialling this.
    7:24
    Comment From Helen
I've already checked there's nothing interfering with the Hub.
    7:24
    Comment From Helen
I don't have a Hub3, both the one that is currently connected, and the old one I have in the box are Hub 2.
    7:25
    Comment From Chris
Yes, going from 3mb to an estimated 50mb+ is quite the upgrade, I would even be happy if it was merely a 10MB upgrade. - If I remember correctly FTTC is around(if not the same) price as standard broadband these days.
    7:26
    Charles
Helen - could you post your issue in the Bt Infinity forum and one of our mods will look into this for you.
    7:26
    Comment From Kevin
My install is planned for the 28th May my question is i have my master socket downstairs directly below the room i want my fttc modem installed is it possible to have the modem upstairs with the extension cable ?
    7:27
    Comment From Mike B
I have an istalation question. I understand that the modem for Infinity needs to be sited close to the BT phone socket. Am I right in thinking that the modem is then connected via a Cat 5/6 cable to the wireless router situated elsewhere in the house? Does this impact on the speed?
    7:27
    Comment From Helen
    Ok charles, I will do..
    7:28
    Comment From Neil Potter
On the subject of Powerline Adaptors (PA's) - I have a unique setup here at home whereby I would need to utilise 4 x PA's. Are there any known performance issues sharing data, experiencing latency or dropped packets from Desktop PC's all connected via PA's at the same time?
    7:28
    Martin S.
Kevin / Mike B: The engineer can use an extension cable up to 30m long to help position your equipment where you want it - this should not affect your speed.
    7:29
    Comment From Eric Simpson
I have bt broadband .. I am currently getting 3M download. I have two "estimates" from the BT site. One says I should get between 10-17 ... the other which does some sort of check/diagnostic (and appears to be the real thing) says I should get between 1-4. We are meant to get Infinity next month. How would that impact me?
    7:31
    Charles
Hi neil - good question. I've found from experience that powerline performance is very much dependent on the adaptor manufacturer and your home environment, specifically how 'clean' your electrical spectrun is. All I can say is give it a try. That said, i would always recommend an Ethernet connection for the fastest and most stable speeds.
    7:31
    Martin S.
Hi Eric. You can find your predicted BT Infinity speed (if it is available on your line) at bt.com/infinity and entering your number into the availability checker
    7:31
    Comment From Simon
hi, really I'm just asking a tech question - can the bt home hub port forward?
    7:32
    Comment From Eric Simpson
Does my question pop up only when it comes up the queue?
    7:33
    KerryG
Hi Eric - Yes, they will flow in as they get answered - it helps to make the chat easier to read as the Q & As flow in a reasonable order.
Great questions coming through... lots more to get through...been a quick 33 mins!
    7:33
    Charles
Hi simon - I'm assuming you're talking about the Hub 3 (our latest Hub). Yes, it does support port forwarding. You can set this up via the configuration menu in your Hub. See instructions in your Hub user guide for how to do this.

    7:35
    Comment From guilbo
Hello folks. I have a question. We often see on the Vision forum that users start having problems with their service on Infinity that they weren't having with ADSL. Do you know of anything that would cause this?
    7:35
    Martin S.
Hi Glynn, we are currently reviewing Fibre on Demand and have not yet announced any pricing or availability details.

    7:38
    Charles
HI guilbo - I'm not aware of any technical issues for Vision customer regrading to Infinity. We have hundreds of orders go through each week. If the problem persists, I would suggest customers contact the Infinity helpdesk.
    7:38
    Comment From Neil Potter
Thanks for your reply Charles - If I could ask, the PA's you supply with the current BT Vision boxes are manufactured by Simpler Networks - would I need to purchase identical PA's from the same manufacturer for extending my network? Will BT Retail sell me these as an additional extra? This will be my last question - I feel I have been fortunate to have two answered already
    7:39
    Martin S.
Hi Chris - The speeds estimated in the checker are a very good indication of actual speeds, but we can only know the exact speed once installed.
    7:39
    Comment From Eric Simpson
it says not available yet. I am just frustrated because I get faster speed from my little Android phone using it as a hotspot. If there is a bottleneck somewhere in the system, would fibre really make a difference
    7:41
    Comment From Kevin
I have been given the estimate of 59.4Mb download 20.0Mb upload will this be accurate?
    7:42
    Charles
Hi neil - yes you should always stick to the same model for all your PA's. I am pretty sure that additional Vision PA's can be bought from the BT Shop, and these should be fine. I have had 70mbps out of mine! seewww.bt.com/shop
    7:43
    Martin S.
Eric - Generally fibre can make a very significant difference to overall speeds, though individual increases can't be guaranteed. If / when it becomes available on your line, the checker will tell you how much of a difference it could make to you.
    7:43
    Comment From Chris
I'm assuming it's based on the length of copper from my house to the Green Cab. - The exchange is 2miles~ away from me and the said Cab. Will this also effect my speed?
    7:45
    Charles
Hi Kevin - our estinmates are as accurate as we can make them, but your actual speed will depend on your underlying phone line speed. We will only know your true speed once Infinity is live - it will then train to your optimal line speed, which should be approx as shown by your prediction.
    7:45
    KerryG
Glad to see you all keeping Charles and Martin busy here... keep the questions coming in, we're in the last 15 mins now...
    7:45
    Martin S.
Chris - Yes, your speed is primarily affected by the total amount of copper between you and the exchange. With FTTC fibre products, the old copper between the exchange and the cabinet is replaced by fibre, meaning less copper overall and faster speeds.

The Cab is 500-600 metres away from me, and according this graph the the BT estimated speed is just right on that.

Hi Lewis - DLM will apply interleaving only if it detects an ustable line. It will not apply interleaving unless it is warranted.

I guess when i get my infinity installed a lot of sites and links will still be on dsl or adsl+ or even slower and the speed my end wont improve the speed there end ie my speed will depend on the site i visit and there upload speed for my download speed?

I am moving to BT infinity, but I had to order my line and then wait for it to be activated before ordering infinity. Is this a technical issue or a process at BT issue?
    7:49
    Charles
Evening Dom. It's a process issue - we can only provide Infinity once a Retail line is up and running.

Hi guys. I've upgraded to Infinity 2 with an estimated max download of 49.5 Mbps however my IP profile hasn't budged from the Infinity 1 value of ~30. Any thoughts?

Hi Kevin - yes, some websites that you visit may not be able to keep up with your superfast speeds! We aim to give you the best speeds at your end, but sadly there may sometimes be bottlenecks in the wider internet.

HI William - sorry for the delay in responding. Best thing to do is to reboot your Hub, then it should pick up the new speed. If not, contact the Infinity forum.

Apologies in advance for my ignorance. If Infinity is installed does the 'phone continue to use copper all the way to the exchange or does this also go over fibre?

Hi lewis - the most common cause is interference on your phone line, in which case DLM will moderate your BB speed until the line stablises. There'smore lot of info on this at the Infinity FAQs on BT.com

  • Infinity Order Delay - Worried

    Hi folks,
Hoping someone can advise me on what to do here, because I am starting to stress out a little bit over my current situation.
Firstly, my back story.  I'm currently a BT Broadband customer, but I am moving to a new home where BT Infinity is available, so I ordered the BT Infinity 2 package.  I was originally hoping to move on the 10th Dec, but BT told me that the earliest they can move my connection over to my new place is on the 19th due to requiring an engineer visit.  Now for an average person, that just means 9 days without internet, no big deal right?  Not for me though because in my case, I work full time online.  If I'm not able to work, I lose money.
So I delayed my move to the 19th thanks to my current landlord who is letting me stay a bit longer, although it does mean I'm having to double up on paying rent for two different properties since I have already signed the lease for my new apartment.. but it's ultimately cheaper than me taking those 9 days off.
Anyway, the issue and the reason I'm here today is because I just received an email with the following message:
A survey is required by our engineers before we can progress your order, this will result in a delay in us providing you with BT Infinity Broadband service.
We apologise for the delay and can assure you we are working as quickly as possible towards a solution, we will be in touch as soon as we have a further update.
You can track the progress of your order by visiting www.bt.com/myorder, using your order number [removed for privacy reasons]
Due to my online profession, this email is very worrying for me.  I do not know how long this delay will be, or when my order will actually be completed.  I've heard horror stories of delayed orders taking weeks to complete, and with it being so close to Christmas, I'm worried I'm about to suffer the same fate.  The order progress on the website however still shows the 19th as being the date in which my service will be activated, along with the engineer visit.
I was hoping today to finalise my removal services so that I could be at my new place on the 19th, but now I don't know what to do because I don't know now whether I'll need to extend my stay here further just so that I have a working connection or not.  I only have another day or two before that choice is no longer an option.  I really hope there's a way to escape this fate, even if it means changing my package so that an engineer visit isn't required.  Anything just to have the connection set up by the 19th or at least within a couple of days of that date, as I cannot afford to take time off work, nor can I afford to keep paying rent for two different properties just for the sake of maintaining an internet connection.
If anyone has any advice on what to do in this unusual situation, please let me know.  The move itself is already stressful enough, but this is definitely pushing my stress levels through the roof.
    Best regards,
    X.

I am just a regular user with a residential line/package.  I just tried using the phone number they've given me for my new place on the BT business website, but it says that BT business is not available in my area yet oddly enough.  Furthermore I do use my connection often outside of work for gaming.. etc, so not sure if I would suit a business line regardless. (To be honest, I don't really know the differences between the two.. but it seems like it's not an option regardless)
My main concern right now is getting a connection up and running by the 19th (or at least before Christmas) at my new place, even if it means having to change my Infinity 2 order to a lesser one, if I can even do that. (I wouldn't be overly happy with doing that, but a working connection is more important than having to potentially wait weeks after the 19th for one)
Would an Infinity 1 package require an engineer visit?  Or would this whole "delay due to an engineer survey" thing affect that too?  Also is it normal that my order summary page still shows the 19th as my activation date, despite the email stating a delay?  The agent on the phone did mention that an engineer would be in the area prior to that date, which is why I had to wait 'til the 19th in the first place despite originally being quoted an earlier date previously. (I ordered originally on the 24th Nov.)  I'm really confused and unsure of what to do right now.. because my whole move is resting on this pretty much.  I should note that my new place apparently has the rare FTTP packages available, allowing me to choose Infinity 3 or 4.  I'm assuming that changing my order to one of those will not change anything though?
Thanks for your advice so far, much appreciated.
    Regards,
    X.

  • Questions on getting BT Infinity in apartment

    Hello,
I am considering moving into a new build apartment in Manchester, and have some questions regarding the possibility of getting fibre optic broadband there.
Using the online checker, the post code brings up a positive result for the availability of Infinity, with other properties in the area able to get it (the property I am interested in isn't listed yet).
As I understand it, this indicates the road-side cabinet will be connected to the exchange by fiber-optic cable. Given that the "up to 76 mbps" service is an FTTC product, and not FTTP, am I right in saying that there is no need for any fiber-optic or special coaxial cable connection from the cabinet to the apartment itself to get BT Infinity? Would it be sufficient to simply have an ordinary copper phone line between the cabinet and the apartment if I'm happy to settle for an FTTC product (the developer states the apartments in the block are all fitted with standard BT phone lines)?
If so, would the modem simply plug into the standard BT phone socket just as an ordinary ADSL modem would?
I'm assuming that if there is no need for fibre-optic cable between the cabinet and the apartment with an FTTC product, then there would be no need for any modifications to the wiring of the property or any additional installations.
Finally, in case I decide in the future to go with an FTTP product like BT's "up to 300 mbps" service, does anyone have any experience at all with getting the appropriate cabling fitted to apartments? My main concern is that the apartment is on the top (third) floor of the block.
    Thanks!
    Odai.

yes it is the normal cooper pair from the cabinet to your home with FTTC
the only change to your internal wiring would be the master phone socket would be changed for a new filtered fibre one then the Openreach modem is connected to that and your home hub is then connected to the modem a full fibre ho home service is somewhat different and you would need to consult BT over that one

  • BT Infinity - Awaiting install for over a year!

Okay first off this is not a rant and I will try to include all the facts so far to date.
I've been with BT for over 3 yrs, originally left Tiscali Broadband to join BT based off BT's sales advisor telling me I would get Infinity within the year.
Consequently that didn't happen, wasn't so much annoyed because all companys can miss deadlines and will try to correct the issue where possible.
This started off in August last year, I was checking http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/ eargerly to find out when my town was going to be accepting orders. My town was showing an estimate of August which peeked my interest knowing that i was finally going to be getting what i signed up for.
August came and went with no sign of Openreach installing anything, I called BT to which they advised me that I couldn't contact Openreach direct and that I should keep checking Openreach's site to find out when it was coming. It then got shifted to October and basically the same scenario happened again. After having a lengthy conversation with Clive Brinkman (Openreach) via email i was given information that the cabinet had issues and that there maybe a number of reasons why, at this point I was told the cabinet would go live Q3 / 2014.
At this point I felt a little messed around, I tried to chase this up as much as possible with BT while going through various people until I was put into contact with Michelle who states in an email "Openreach have been in touch and have advised customer is connected to ******* exchange cabinet ******. This cabinet is still in the build phase and is currently expected to go live in mid-November" I also got confirmation from Clive Brinkman (Openreach) "With the thousands of new cabinets we are deploying over the whole of the UK some will be delayed as the commissioning teams are at the moment very busy, your fibre cabinet will be completed and the latest details I can see is November 2013"
Again November passed by and still no sign. At this point I'm fed up and tired of chasing people around to find out what's going on after spending hours on phone calls and being told dates which weren't correct.
Around January I saw an Openreach van outside my property, which sparked interest from me for Fibre. I then checked it again and it stated "February". Again this date was pushed back to March.
From what I remember my area was now Accepting Orders, however it turns out my cabinet wasn't. After many phone calls i finally manage to find out that they need to dig up some road in order to install piping and this would need to be arranged through my local council. Now in April and nothing, called BT who advised to contact my local council to see if they could speed it up.
So I called them, after being told by them i should check roadworks.org to see when it was scheduled. Funny enough BT were scheduled to come that day to lay the pipe work. I advised the council that no work was taking place to which they were astounded by. I asked the lady if she could chase it up and perhaps get someone from Openreach to call me about it. I received a call later that afternoon from Andy in the new development site from Openreach who in the end was useless and very rude and stated the only reason he called me was to see if there was a health & safety issue.
After getting no where again and the amount of time spent in chasing up people to find out what was happening I was on the verge of giving up, especially when dealing with BT. Around a week later I was woken up to road works and low and behold they're digging up to put piping in place.
I happened by chance to be reading Ofcoms page and thought they might be worth a call to get some advice and I was told that Openreach wouldn't do anything for me and that I should pressure BT to put pressure on Openreach to hurry the process more. This annoyed me to no end as after all this time the people who I spoke about this most to was BT and nothing had been done from there end.
I called BT and asked to be put through to a manager, I was put through to Kelly the sales manager. After explaining in length the hassle I've had from this she turns round and tells me that BT will not provide information and that I should check "can i get fibre broadband" and when it's available they'll notify me. After explaining again that I was provided more information than this last time she seemed to get irrate and confrontational stating the same information again. At this point I wasn't very happy with the way I was being treated within this phone call so I asked if I could be put through to her superior, from which she responded "Nick who is the center manager" she refused to put me through and refused to pass my issues onto him.
I don't believe for one second that the road works would of taken place if I hadn't of chased it, the customer service overall from BT is an absolute disgrace and BT should be made an example of.
All I want to know now is, when will Openreach come out as the roadworks are completed and the pipe has been put in.

    Hi Kinergy,
As you know the Fibre broadband infrastructure rollout (FTTC & FTTP infrastructures) is being done by Openreach as part of either the Openreach Commercial fibre rollout plan or as part of your local authorities BDUK fibre broadband programme.
Openreach are the "last mile" infrastructure provider for the majority of ISPs/CPs (excluding KCom & cable networks) such as BT Retail.
Please can you copy and paste the results from the BT Wholesale Database (http://dslchecker.bt.com/adsl ) with the exchange and cabinet number and also the information under the "services grid". However remember to edit out your landline number before posting.
There is sometimes a reason given in the BT Wholesale Database results if there is a delay or issue with the installation/activation of fibre to a cabinet/area.
BT Retail doesn't really have much say as to If or When fibre broadband will be available to your property as that's down to Openreach (/& your local authority in terms of BDUK rollout).
Even though Openreach is part of the BTplc Group, there are rules and regulations put in place by the telecoms regulators that means Openreach have to function separately from the rest of BTplc Group (which includes the retail division BT Retail, and ISP/CP) and therefore Openreach must treat all ISPs/CP equally and that BT Retail does not get any priority.
There can be many reasons for the delay in enabling fibre to your area/cabinet. For example blocked ducts, LA planning issues, power supply, ect..
Has your PCP (cabinet) been installed and connected to a FTTC DSLAM cabinet which would be sited either next to or opposite the PCP or within 100 meters of the PCP?
From many examples once the physical FTTC DSLAM cabinet has been sited near the existing PCP then it can take weeks/months for that FTTC DSLAM cabinet to be fully commissioned and accepting orders.
**The Commercial Fibre-Optic Broadband Rollout is being managed and done by Openreach for all communication providers/ISPs. The BDUK fibre broadband schemes are managed by Openreach along with your local authority.BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP) has nothing to do with the rollout of fibre broadband.**

  • HH5 & Infinity 2 Issue - Please Help

    Hi,
Ok i've had a morning of being passed from one department to the other online and on the phone, and nobody seems to be able to help. Have seen various posts on here suggesting there is an issue of people being stuck on the wrong IP profile when upgrading to HH5 etc.
I have been paying for Unlimited Infinity 2, which should give me 76Mbps, however, I'm only getting a max of 39Mbps.
Please can someone start the ball rolling, what sort of info can I copy and paste on here to see what the problem is?
As it happens, I'm now due to be leaving BT in about 10 days anyway, but want to see if I can try and get some money back for what seems to have been a well-documented problem.
    Many thanks in advance!

  • What is involved outside my house with an Infinity...

    Hi Folks,
After looking over the very basic BT website and chatting with a customer care person on their live chat service, I was led to believe that for a new install of an Infinity FTTC set up, it would just entail the engineer changing over the faceplate of my BT master socket and installing the modem and hub inside my house.
Just as I was nearing the end of the online sign-up process I was told that an engineer would have to make a visit prior to this to fit a box onto the outside of house.
What is this box for? I thought that with a FTTC service that it would already use the existing copper cables and nothing new would need to be installed or changed outside of the house.
I have my house wired with CAT 5 that all terminates under the stairs with my BT master socket and existing router.
The incoming BT cable was run in before we plastered and there'll be no way for the engineer to get a cable from the outside box, to my wiring cupboard.
So can someone tell me what this external box is for and if it is needed for a FTTC install?
    Many thanks, Stuart
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

David - yes I do have a BT line and that's exactly what I thought would happen - just a simple face plate change in the house.
Enigma - I assumed when I signed up that I would be getting the standard FTTC and therefore not need anything doing outside the house. This is why I was puzzled when on the sign up page, BT say that an engineer will have to do this first visit to fit the outside box (which one would assume is needed for FTTP in order to terminate the fibre somewhere)
All I can think is that either they say that to every new sign up, or somwehere along the process they think I'm having FTTP, which I certainly didn't ask for.

  • BT Infinity availability and enablement

    Hello
we are buying a new built house and we are unable to find out any information about infinity availability. The exchange (Rothley) is accepting orders!!!! and BT customer service cannot help.
We don't have a telephone number yet so we are checking with the postcode.
The next road is served by another cabinet and gets FTTC but slow.
    Please help.
    Very frustrated now!!!!

    Hi ykere,
Have you tried the address of the new build on the BT Wholesale Broadband Availability checker here: http://dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/ADSLChecker.AddressOutput
If there is no mention of WBC FTTC when checking the BT Wholesale Database then unfortunately it looks like your cabinet isn't currently in Openreach's fibre broadband rollout plan.
As it is a new build then probably the best way is to ask other residence on your street. This will also give you an idea if it is available to your street.
Click here to see what your looking for in the BT Wholesale Database
The Openreach Superfast Fibre Broadband rollout is still in it's early stages and the plans are always being added too.
So your cabinet may be upgraded in the future, though there is no public time scale on when that will be.
Please bear in mind that in some cases it may not be possible to provide FTTC broadband in areas due to:
    • Your line may be too far from the local street cabinet to have a stable FTTC broadband service such as BT Infinity service.
    • Your local street cabinet may not be suitable for fibre optic cables.
    • We haven't yet got the council's planning permission to do the necessary work at your local street cabinet.
    • Your home may not be suitable for fibre optic cables.
    • Your landlord may not have agreed to the fibre infrastructure being provided in your building (for example if you live in a flat).
    • There isn't a adequate power supply
    • Health and safety issues
    • No ducting or inadequate ducting
    • It may not be financially viable for Openreach to upgrade your pcp (cabinet) with a DSLAM (FTTC) cabinet.
    plus lots more.
The build of the fibre broadband infrastructure in the area isn't always easy and can be very complex.
Also look out for these FTTC Cabinets on/near your street/area. If you see one near your old cabinet (pcp) then you maybe in luck for Fibre broadband.
Unfortunately BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP who operates this forum) does not have much say as to when and if you will be able to get FTTC or FTTP/H based broadband such as BT Infinity.
You can register your interest for Fibre Broadband such as BT Infinity by going to http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/expression-gen.aspx
You can keep checking the BT Wholesale Database and BT Infinity website for the most upto date information as these are updated regularly.
The openreach When and Where website is: http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/
**The Fibre-Optic Broadband Rollout is being managed and done by Openreach for all communication providers/ISPs.
BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP) has nothing to do with the rollout of fibre broadband.**
    Hope that helps,
    Cheers
