BT Infinity getting to become a Joke.

Had BT infinity for around 2 months now, first couple of days absulutely fine, no issue. With a upload of 6mb and a download of 36mb i thought hey Life will be easy. I play on game consoles alot and that was one of the prime reasons why we bought Infinity/upgraded from previous broadband speeds. So okay I'm in a Game and its lagging like crazy, I am never hosts of games i lose out to that to people with poorer internet speeds and connections (People on Plus Net with 0.2mb down and up?!) My Wireless keeps dropping on my Laptop and Xbox causing me to have to reset my Modem (which is the only way to resolve it) With slogans such as 'More responsive Gaming' and 'Most Reliable Wireless speeds/connections' its a total Joke. They arent anything like it says. Its so frustrating.
Edit: Asking me to do a speedtest is pointless, BT speed tests under estimate your speed by a large margin, speedtest.net gives me a more rounded average of what I'm 'supposed' to be getting:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2057485229.png

What router are you using? the hh3? i've had many issues with wireless on that router and chose to swap it out.
If you are having wireless issues, it should be the router you should reset and not the modem.
What games do you play online mostly?

• Will my BT infinity get faster

just had my BT infinity installed and i am getting 36/8 when i was told i would get 60/15 i know you are meant to wait like 14 days for line to adjust but i feel like i have been put on the 40/10 package by mistake. will it go up? and if it doesn't will BT put me on the 40/10 package instead as they promised me the faster speed?

Can you run this checker and post back a screen shot of the results. Make sure you delete your phone number before posting.
http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome
and use this speed tester then carry out the further diagnostics and post back a screen shot of all the results including your IP profile for up and down. This test must be done with a wired connection.

As you have a Homehub 5 can you also post the stats from 1-12 by logging onto the homehub management pages then troubleshooting > helpdesk. http://bthomehub.home/

• What type of certification and education can I get to become a BPXer ?

I wanted to open this forum thread to capture ideas on where I can get more information on how to become a BPXer

Dear Marco,
First of all thanks for raising such queries. It really helps lot of us to revisit this forum.
I have answered a similar query yesterday and this was my response.
"A very relevant question. I would request forum members to please forward your points.
Business process management (BPM) is a method of efficiently aligning an organization with the wants and needs of clients. It is a holistic management approach that promotes business effectiveness and efficiency while striving for innovation, flexibility and integration with technology. As organizations strive for attainment of their objectives, BPM attempts to continuously improve processes - the process to define, measure and improve your processes – a ‘process optimization' process.
Reference: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_process_management)
So, I feel there is no generic training of BPM. There are lot of tools to achieve the holistic BPM. Learning these tools will only help you if you are able to implement them in a practical scenario. In your case what I will suggest you to join some course which can be readily implemented in your company.
I have gone through this link and it looks interesting.

Please let me have your point of view. It is really an important thread for all of us.

• BT Infinity getting slower and slower each week

I live 2 mins from my caerphilly exchange. On installation I got 28 meg download. A week later it went to 26, then it went 24, now its only 22. Online gaming is a nightmare with bad pings and connections.

Yes the speeds were checked different days at the same times. I have spoke to a bt tech who accessed my pc today and confirmed my speeds were low. I have been told and engineer will contact me in the next 48 hours to see where the problem is at.
My speeds has now dropped to 19 meg download.
Since joining BT Infinity late November, I have been unable to get on the internet 3 times late at night, speeds dropping under 5 meg download and now lowering each week and not bouncing back to the 29 meg download I got on first installation. I hope things improve as I am paying a lot more than my previous provider.

• THIS IS FAST BECOMING A JOKE !

This post was edited and content removed by a BT Mod and not by me!!
That was just on the Tester to prove a point!
All I have been through and knowing what my line can take seeing as its the same line I have had for years!
This is BTs own test telling me what I can receive never in my Internet history on the same line have I ever seen it this low in fact its never been below 9 on the same test!
When I use other company's tests now to see what I get one said 3 omg what is BT trying to do! Drive me nuts cause I think they have Succeeded
That was just on the Tester to prove a point!

After I made the above post I want to submit this record below to show what my line can get after all the FIGHT and BATTLES that I should not have had to endure ,as well as time off work over  a long period on and off and the stress caused by BT !That is still not fully been resolved as the speeds and profile are far from what they should be!
Below is now my router Stats that only changed at the time of writing this within the hour, after many many calls and much hard work by myself and contacting professional certain BT Operatives that care truly about there customers.
I am grateful to them fully, but as you can imagine not happy or excited about these Stats as this should not have took this amount of time to be resolved or for BT to cause me such stress !
The stats mean nothing, been here before, and watched it go pear shaped within an hour of sorting!
I post the stats below to even show after a big argument today on the phone to a supervisor based in India who insisted my line can only take 5.5 down and he said to me  that was said to me by a operative when I took the broadband on or before the 25th of October according to him, when I told him I had evidence in the form of speed tests as well as I would no way did that person say no such thing,as there would have been no way I would of took BT broadband if that was the case ,he was basically calling me a LIAR... as we can clearly see by the information on stats below this is not so!
I will still be seeking legal advise and some form of compensation from BT not just for time and money but for undue care and stress upon myself!

Although the above router shows this speed it is not what I get as like before the ip profile has to catch up as before it never did,it is like being stuck in ground hog day!
As shown below nothing has changed and as in previous posts I have shown that previous tests show a ACHIEVABLE SPEED OF 21000 but this keeps changing even as low as 3 and sometimes achievable speed of 18000 so something again is still not right with this service!
I want to thank those members that can genuinely see even at times I may seem like I have been quite angry and venting if you really understand that at times this I can not help due to the mistreatment I have undergone by BT.

• New infinity install or lack of it ?

Well where do I start from the beginning I suppose was with sky 4 years for phone broadband tv upgraded to fibre in jan 13 but nothing but problems due to poor speeds and congestion so managed to cancel within 3 month cooling off period so looked around for a better deal decided to for bt infinity 2 evening weekend calls £50 sainburys gift card and £20 for 3 months, which I ordered on 13 march for install on 28 march great! Until 2 days later found offer improved to £100 gift card contacted bt said cannot get the new offer unless cancel order and reorder but will put back my install date by another week so I left it as it was,
Bt home hub was delivered on the 26 two days before install great, then install day engineer booked between 8-1 pm around 8am phone goes dead off until around 11 then connected to bt but no 1571 call minder and no caller display which was ordered and confirmed by bt,gets to 12.30 no engineer phoned bt said he was behind due to weather but would call when he's on his way, waited another 2 hours still nothing phoned bt again they said engineer not coming now because the line was not connected at the time he was in the area, what? a joke they said that infinity cannot now be installed until next week due to this and that they needed to place a new order for call minder and caller display to be activated 4 April , I said this is not good enough and left me with no Internet they said that we will give you £40 credit on your bill and if you go out and buy a mobile Internet dongle until infinity is installed, what a joke! Told me to phone back Saturday to get a engineer booked once system is updated, well this was not what I was expecting from bt thought sky was bad but this is even worse think I have jumped out of the frying pan into the fire ! Well let's see if bt can deliver on speeds stated 55 down and 16 up when I finally get connected if not will be cancelling this so far terrible service !

• Wanting to join infinity

Hi is there anyone who can give me more info on joining infinity?
I am with sky and want to move my line, calls and Internet over to bt but I want infinity! I have seen a few people have had to have the line moved first before they ordered infinity but others have been able to get it all moved and installed in 1 day! I really don't want my Internet to be off for a week as it would cause me problems. I don't care if I have to change my home number as I keep getting a lot sales calls now and I'm getting a bit pee'd with it. Can any one help? Thanks

Hi there,
I am new to BT, so please bear with me. I am wanting to join BT Infinity when it becomes available in my area on the 30th of June.
Just a few questions...
1. I used to be on O2 broadband and obtained 17Mbs through O2, yet BT always estimated me at 9/13Mbs. Why would there be a difference between two ISPs? My exchange is Ashton-under-Lyne.
2. Infinity speed estimates have my speed with an estimated 24Mbs down with 9Mbs up. Is this likely to improve in future?
3. I am with TalkTalk for my line rental. I spoke to someone at BT Sales and they said if I wanted Infinity then I would need to take out my line rental with BT. Is this true?
4. I have been reading on forums that people have been offered Infinity before the "live date" at their exchange. Is there anyway I can see if that would be available for me?
I am currently with Virgin 50Mbs service which is awful. These are the results I am getting which can be very erratic:
Thanks
Hi,
Some answers to your questions
1) This will be because O2 are probably unbundled and use their own hardware. BT are so far behind other ISP's in providing good speeds.
2) It all depends on distance from street cabinet, but you could expect upto close to 40mb if BT are already quoting 24mb
3) You should not need to change telephone provider, as it uses the same pair of wires that are used for ADSL so get switched at the cabinet instead of the exchange.
4) Don't always believe the available dates as these are subject to change and could be cancelled as per what they've done for South Yorkshire.
Be warned that BT still cap you @ 1mb for 30 days if you use over 100GB a month, they also throttle various things protocols..

Hi Dharmender ,
Did you try to repair your Acrobat once ?If not please try the same and check if that helps you out .
Launch Acrobat >Navigate to Help >Repair Acrobat Installation .
Do you get any error message or any prompts when it hangs and become unresponsive ?
Does this happen with any specific PDF or all the PDF'?
Also you could try to uninstall Acrobat once and they re install it if the above step does not work .
Please restart your machine once as well.

• Web pages fail to load somtimes using bt infinity

Hi all
had bt infinity for 4 days now and i have a small problem, somtitmes the web pages will not load up but hitting refresh stright away loads the page.
its random and on any site but all i have to do is hit refresh and it pops up.
i never had this problem on my last provider is there some sort of problem with bt infinity getting webpages as this has been happening from day one.
its not a hugh problem but its a pain if it happens when your filling in some infomation and you have to hit refresh.
its not the computer as its been the same software and hardware or months apart from the update to ie10 which i uninstalled back to ie9.
is this a DNS bt infinity problem ? is this normal do people have this problem.
thanks

its not the sites as i just have to hit refresh the odd time that it happens.
i can go for a couple of hours and it will not happen and then i can go for an hour and have it happen 4 times but saying that it depends on how often i load a webpage or the next link.
its seems to happen the odd time thats all
i never had this problem on my last provider, so its a bt infinity problem.
i have a couple of computers i might try on them and see what happens, see if anything has happend to my main pc since the upgrade to ie10 as i have uninstaled it to ie9 but you never know if its left somthing.
i have to try a different machine and see what happens

• BT Infinity at my exchange

Hi, BT Infinity is 'enabled' at my exchange (CV21, RUGBY), but I am unable to get it in my street. I was wondering whether a worker here can push this forward for me? I have been in contact with you by the live chat and phone so many times, none of which have been able to help me.
Can you please tell me what's needed to get BT Infinity in my street? It's a new street, and the house was built 6-7months ago, all BT lines are brand new, so I expect the tech should be installed already.
CV23 9DD - we really need it done as downloading at 1kbps sometimes is disgusting. Can't even load speedtest without it timing out, really need this done guys!
I hope you can reply ASAP.
Thank you

@sy5gtt, thank you for the reply. How up to date is this information? What would be my best bet now? Who should I be getting in contact with to hurry them up?
All you could do is register your interest for Infinity + get all your neighbours and local businesses to register an interest.
This might get your cabinet put into the next round.
[edit[ in the meantime you could post your router stats and Bt speedtest results with the IP profile in the broadband forum, members may be able to suggest something to help you.

• BT Broadband or BT Infinity

I am sorry if this question has been asked before. A brand new FTTC cabinet has been installed with power about 200M away from my home. It still awaits the OR team and the rfs date has slipped from 31 Dec to 31 Mar 12. On Saturday, I received a letter from BT offering me free broadband for 3 months etc. Currently, I am with an independent ISP. Simply, what is the contractual position if I accept the Broadband offer and I want to take up BT Infinity in a couple of months time?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Hi
If you decide to take up the broadband offer you will either have a 12/18 month contract, the change over to Infinity when it becomes available to you, will be as far as I am aware classed as an upgrade so the install and any extra equipment should be free, at least it was for me when I went from broadband to Infinity.
     Hope this information helps
Edit : like webby said you will start a new 12/18 month contract off upon upgrading.

• ADSL2 to Infinity in contract?

I am currently with a different broadband supplier but I am thinking of signing up to BT as I am no longer in contract with my present supplier (I do have a BT Line).
My question is... If i go for the up to 16Mb Unlimited ADSL2 package it is on an 18th month contract, I am quite happy with this but the dilema I have is that Infinity is due to be rolled out in my area at the end of this year, would I be able to move from ADSL2 to Infinity whilst in the 18 month contract or would BT make me stick to the ADSL2 until the contract is complete?
Thanks.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

you could upgrade to infinity when it becomes available but your will need to start a new contract

• Bt Infinity - How best to make the move?

Some advice please. A FTTC cabinet has appeared in my street with an expected RFS date of 31 December. Currently, I have an ADSL2+ connection with an independent ISP and a phone line with Talk Talk. After considerable thought, I am ready to move to BT Infinity when the service becomes available but I understand that this will require me to revert my phone line back to BT. As I am keen on the Infinity Option 3, how should I proceed?  Do I just place an order (with a MAC) and levae it to BT to sort things out with my ISP and Talk Talk or would there be any advantage in my moving my phone line across before Infinity becomes available?  Thanks.
Solved!

HenGus wrote:
My apologies. What I am looking for is the BT Infinity 40MBps Unlimited Offer at £28 per month. Technically, I have a BT-based line - I just pay my line rental to TT. My current ISP will offer me FTTC without any need to transfer my phone line; however, the difference in cost over 2 years would be £231 for a no calls and 50GB download package. To revert back to my original question: do I transfer my line back to BT now and then apply for BT Infinity when it becomes available or do I transfer my phone and broadband at the same time. I am just trying to smotth the whole process as I understand that the line transfer has to take place first.
Hi HenGus , that is hengus from whirlpool isn't it.
Ifinity option 2 is what you are after.
Do you transfer all now or later or split it up.
That has to be down to you. How long has the cabinet been there, is it powered up and ready for service. If not it can still be months away.
If you bring it all over now you can upgrade to Infinity at any time you want, it would just be a new contract.
If you decide to leave it till later, be aware that a lot of dual installs, Line and Broadband/Infinity fail with the Line being installed and broadband/Infinity having to be activated days later.
I have no doubt that some people will say that there dual install has gone okay, but there are many where it fails.
[edit] As regards the MAC, In your situation with the Phone line being with TT and your broadband being with another ISP and you wanting to come to BT, I can only suggest you talk to both BT and your ISP, but a MAC is free anyway, so i can see no problem in requesting a MAC and then giving it to BT if wanted.

• Port Forwarding For Network Cameras On Infinity

Basically if you have network cameras and want to access them remotely with BT Infinity, get rid of your BT Home Hub 3!
Whatever configuration they have inside for their infinity setup, the ports you open for your cameras will never be accessible. I was aware of this before the installation from reading about it online but these were old posts and hoped this problem may have been resolved by now.
Anyway sure enough once the installation was complete I setup the ports for access to my cameras and found them to be inaccessible. BT checked and confirmed I had configured the hub correctly but said there was nothing wrong with the equipment and it must be the line. Mean time I connected and setup my own router and sure enough the ports were accessible immediately which confirmed it was their hub/router and not the line. I told BT and they decided to send out another hub which in my mind I already knew wouldn't work (and it didn't). When I told them, the only answer their technical people could give me was to come on here and ask cause they were unable to comment on my findings and they could be of no further help with the issue. So save yourself the hassle of waiting for replacement routers and use your own. Doesn't need to be expensive, just a stand alone router and plug it into your BT Openreach modem and set your router's PPPOE user to: [email protected] and leave the password blank and you're done, the one I'm using cost me £29 a year ago and works a treat, no drop in speed and can now access all cameras remotely as before with ADSL.

The default DHCP table on the home hub only supports 192 or 172, but you do have the option to create a range that is suited for you.
