BT Infinity has reached my area but the line check...

I noted this rather poor general response to a question I see being asked by multiple community members.

Within an exchange area there will be some customers who can't get BT Infinity. There are several reasons why this could be the case:
Your phone line may be connected directly to the telephone exchange and not to a local street cabinet.
Your line may be too far from the local street cabinet to have a stable BT Infinity service.
Your local street cabinet may not be suitable for fibre optic cables.
We haven't yet got the council's planning permission to do the necessary work at your local street cabinet.
So, even though you may be within an enabled exchange area, it's possible that your particular line may not be able to have BT Infinity yet.

I am still waiting for the promised ADSL2 speeds of up to 40mb promised several years ago. I am beginning to suspect that my little community of some 2000 executive homes built less than 12 years ago has some fundamental infrastructure problem that is just too costly for BT to fix.
As far as I can tell none of the above excuses is an issue. Although as I have learnt, and many have commented, knowing anything with BT's roll out evasion policy is frustrating. I'm sure behind all this is a simple business case where BT require a certain % sign up to make enabling a cabinet viable. I just wish they could be honest with their customers.
I know most of my neighbours have given up on BT ever delivering. I also suspect that as we have no other choice of broadband infrastructure BT are in no hurry to satisfy our demands. I have read most of the posts on the forum and cannot see anyway to get a realistic estimate of when or a reason why not.
So if anyone from BT is listening please be honest, publish real information and if I will never get it let me know so I can stop answering the phone to your annoying sales people! ( who should also know they are trying to sell something they cant deliver)

The best bet is to get together and badger your council to get involved. Several people did that round here and BT have eventually responded. Ham pshire County Councildid have a role but it was our local council in Basingstoke who really helped plus a fair few local activists. Its a good argument if you can show that slow speeds are affecting your ability to run businesses etc and that you may have to move.

    Hello there so i moved houses and it seems that the house is new. I was checking if BT Infinity is availabe in my house and it's saying that it's not available, but my street is close but in avenue it's available. Could it be because my house is new that they havent installed it yet?

    That's entirely possible.  "Close" and Avenue" might be on different cabinets even if they're round the corner from one another. Alternatively, the database may not be bang up-to-date and may not have data for the newest houses. In any case, input your telephone number to the checker if you haven't already done so, that gives you the most accurate answer.
    If you have, or come across, evidence that the database is incorrect (i.e. both your next-door neighbours have Infinity but the checker says you can't) then it is worth contacting the forum mods to see if they can get this corrected.

    The problem is network wise.. Yosemite is about equal to tin cans and string.. pathetic.
    Here is my usual set of instructions to get anything working on Yosemite.
    The best way to fix problems is a full factory reset of all the AE in the network.
    Factory reset universal
    Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
    Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
    eg AEgen5 and AEwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
    Even better if the issue is more wireless use AE24ghz and AE5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the AE always takes the same IP address.. this is not a problem for AE which is router.. it is a problem for AE which is bridged.. you will need to set static IP in the main router by dhcp reservations or use static IP in the AE which is tricky.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric..
    5. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
    6. Now mount the disk of the second AE in finder... manually.
    Use Go, Connect to Server and type in the AE ip address.
    SMB://10.0.1.2
    Where you will replace that address with the actual address. The network resource should be discovered and then it will request the password.. type that in and make sure you tick to save it in your keychain.
    There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
    Do as much as you want of the above... not all of it is necessary.. only if you want it reliable.. or as reliable as Yosemite in its current incarnation can manage.
    The most important thing is point 6.. mount the disk using direct IP address and not names.. dns in Yosemite is fatally flawed.

    Start here (change country if necessary) and navigate to 'Password and Security', reset your security questions using the link provided, you will receive an email to your rescue address, use the link in the email and reset your security questions.
    If that doesn't help, you don't receive a reset email or you don't have a rescue address, you should contact AppleCare who will initially try to assist you with a reset email or if unsuccessful will pass you to the security team to reset your security questions for you.

    Adobe does not sell older versions of their software.  If you wish to purchase an older version you will have to find and take your chances with a third party vendor.

    Where is the link that says you need a 32 bit processor?  On my MBA, in the past I've ran both Office for Mac and Windows 7 (MS Office) via Parallels (Bootcamp does the same thing).  I chose installing Windows 7 in the 32 bit mode ONLY because I have a couple of other legacy Windows programs that only run in 32 bit mode.

    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    You aren't attached to a bluetooth headset or other device for some strange reason?  Or even an automobile bluetooth, I have a friend that has this issue with his Prius because even when it is not running the bluetooth is still active and connects to his phone.

    create a class that implements Shape, and specifically the getPathIterator methods, in these methods you should return a path iterator that follows the sin/cos curve.

  • BT Infinity is in my area, but no one can get it. ...

    So my exchange (Trillick) has been Infinity activated:

    I also confirmed it with the BT checker and yes it is there. As you can see I live in the middle of some fields!
    Problem is I have a friend right beside the exchange, just across the road and he can not get infinity. I live exacly 1.5 miles away and again can't get it. In fact after spending a lot of time entering in everyones phone number from the entire area that I have, no one is able to get it. Now this irks me because I have been told by BT to wait as I will have it before 2012, and according to them it is available in "Some areas from that exchange." Now I don't mind waiting a bit longer but I would really like some accurate information. I see Openreach vans cruising around a lot for the last month or so and still nothing. Towns on both sides of us seem to be up and running for a few months now yet for some reason still nada here. 
    Finally, as mentioned I live exactly 1.5 miles out the road from the exchange. What are the chances of us EVER getting infinity? I am sick and tired of Plusnet and their 60GB cap. I run a business and that simply is not good enough. As the area is ADSL only they will not raise the limit so I end up with a monthly bill near £80 for broadband alone, and is not sustainable.

    I get about 1.5 mb stable, with fluctuations and drop outs on a daily basis. 
    As much as I would love to switch over to Option 3, I can't risk it. My current connect is now contract free. Prior to Plusnet I was with AOL years ago and suffered horrible customer service and a horrible connection that went out on the clock at 1.03pm untill 11.06pm everyday. No one could fix it, not AOL and not BT. So I am unwilling to change from Plusnet to BT incase that unknown problem resurfaces. I would rather pay more than have a totally unreliable service, and by switching to BT I would be under contract which is not something I am willing to do when I don't know how unreliable it would be. Plus I had been told I would be getting fibre to the area soon......I will however switch to the first person willing to offer me fibre!
    I really wish there was a way to find out my local cabinet and check if I will be getting it.
