BT Infinity - HG612 and second router question

Hi,
I've got an odd question. I have BT Infinity and have the HG612 VDSL modem. Does anyone know if and how it can be configured to bridge its WAN connection to another router? For work I need site-to-site VPN access, which is performed by this other router. Unfortunately it needs to own the WAN address, so I need to configure the HG612 to bridge the address with it. Has anyone does this? Is the HG612 even capable of doing this?
I can't find any user manuals on it.
Thanks,
Simon

  • Moving BT Infinity modem and HH3 router to another...

Typically my master socket is in the dining room and all my IT kit is two floors up.  Was using HH3 as Total Broadband in my loft with ethernet connection out to my Apple Airport Extreme which ran the network - everything hunky dory but I wanted faster speed - hence Inifinty.
BT Engineer had a look at my set up, started talking of bringing in a hoist into my back garden to install new Master Socket and it just seemed easier to install in the dining room and use the HH3 as router and re-configure my network - wrong!  Most devices lose contact with the HH3 on a regular basis, therefore I want to re-look at installing Infinity into the loft and revert the HH3 to a ethernet connection out to my Airport Extreme.  I understand all the engineers do at the master socket is install an Infinity faceplate.  I've tried replacing the loft extension with a split front BT master socket and moveed the Infinity faceplate - result; voice remains but no DSL on the white Open Reach modem.
Are there any suggestions what I need to do?  The original extension had four wires connections (white & blue, blue, orange & white, white & orange) but the BT master socket only has three positions and my original master socket only has two wires connected.
    Thanks, Andy

  • Transfer OSX License? And second HD question.

I'm getting ready to sell my G4 and had a couple of questions. I did some searching with in the forums, but didn't find a clear answer. First off, do I have to transfer my Tiger license after a reinstall for the to-be owner? I don't want the serial to be tied to my name on someone else's computer. What are the steps? Secondly, I'm wiping both hard drives. I'm obviously doing the second HD first, but once I reformat it can I do the main and hope OSX will recognize it afterwards? I hope I'm being clear enough, it's sort of late...

  • AEBS and Second Router - can't browse network

I have an AEBS (Gigabit version) connected to another Router (Netgear DGND3700). This, in turn, is connected to a cable modem. So the setup is:
    Internet > Cable Modem > DGND3700 > AEBS
The Netgear router acts as the DHCP server to the network and the AEBS connects on one of the LAN ports. The AEBS is set up as Ethernet in the Internet Connection section in Bridge Mode.
If I connect to the AEBS either wired or wifi, I can see all other devices connected to the AEBS in Finder and if I click on any, I can browse shared folders and/or screen sharing. If I connect to the Netgear router I can see the devices in Finder but cannot connect to them. I suspect it's something to do with internal routing but I can't find a setting on either device where this may being blocked.
Anyone got any suggestions what I'm missing or what I might try ?
    Thanks in advance.

More info. I've tried ping'ing devices connected to the AEBS when I'm connected to the Netgear and can't get a response. Same for a traceroute (obviously). It's like the routes aren't being presented for the local network. I can access the internet fine though.

  • Cisco Nexus 5ks EIGRP and Policy routing question.

We just got installed a METRO LINK between our primary and secondary data center (Site-A <> Site-B) I would like to be able to route data replication between these two sites over that link, instead of going over MPLS.  We run EIGRP internally and BGP to the MPLS (typical scenario)
At first I thought about doing ‘Policy Based Routing’ with IP SLA to be able to track and route traffic coming from the 10.10.10.0/24 bound to 10.11.11.0/24 and track link state with IP SLA in case the metro link would go down;  data replication would continue to flow over MPLS.
In researching this, I found out that Cisco NX-5ks and 6Ks don’t support IP SLA and there is no telling if they will support it any time in future releases either.
I haven’t turned on routing (EIGRP)  between the two 5ks over the metro link yet.
Also, I don’t want to statically route replication traffic over the link unless I have to. It would have to  be a manual change in case I need to re-route it over the MPLS.
    See attached drawing
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Marramix01

can you calculate the metrics of the two different links for EIGRP?
Once you have that you would know which one EIGRP would say is the best path. Then if the MPLS link is not the primary path then you can use Offset-list to force the traffic to and from subnets and still have failover with EIGRP.
I hope I understood your problem correctly.

If you mean to ask about the technical mechanisms involved in a FT connection, see this topic:
      http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11752614
If you are only asking generally about how the email address is used, I will offer my best guess, The email address is apparently added to Apple's FT server database during activation. When FT invitation is initiated, that database could then direct the calls using the associated FT device information.

  • Using a WRT54G as a second wireless and wired router on a LAN

I have setup a WRT54G as a second wired and wireless router on my local LAN.
The WAN wired side of the WRT54G is setup completely DHCP. It gets IP 192.168.1.104 most of the time. (I have used a PC with DHCP on theis ethernet wire and it gets to the internet OK).
The LAN side of the WRT54G is setup as 192.168.20.1 and all wireless and wired devices connecting to it get ips of 192.168.20.xxx and communicate between them selfs perfectly.  However, none of them can get to the internet through the WRT54G.  What have I done wrong?
    Thank You

I guess your WRT54G is not connected to Internet directly, but it's connected to another router that has Internet access.
If this is the case, you can configure this device as access point/hub only in order to get Internet access from the other router. Ignore the WAN connection on this WRT54G, just connect both router's LAN port with crossover cable.. After that configure the WRT54G's wireless setting. You can get more detailed info on how to do it in following article:
Quick Guide to Configure Wireless Router as Access Point
    Hope helps..

  • Issues with second router disconnecting and reconnecting

My second wireless router keeps disconnecting... it reboots then becomes availble after a minute.
The second wireless router is a Netgear WNDR3400v2 and is connected to a Actiontec MI424WR via an ethernet wire. I changed the settings as noted in a forum post to hook up a second router... the setting changes fixed the issues with IP address conflicts that I was having. The issue is that the Netgear router keeps disconnecting. The Actiontec router never disconnects.
There are 16 devices connected to the internet.
Parts of my house don't get a signal from the Actiontec router.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions on enabling more wireless coverage throughout my house from my Actiontec router and/or how to stop the Netgear router from disconnecting. I can't find any specific information that isn't confusing.
My Actiontec router is on the main floor in a cabinet, which prevents the signal from reaching to parts of the house... there is an ethernet cable that runs from the cabinet to a room upstairs, which is where the Netgear router is located... that signal reaches most of the house.

    Hi Clueless777,
Most likely if your Netgear router is randomly disconnecting but the Actiontec is not, it's going to be an issue with your settings in the router. There is a post over at http://www.dslreports.com/faq/12506 that will tell you exactly how the settings should be in both routers for this to work properly.
As to increasing the signal from the Actiontec router, a couple of things come to mind but you may have already did these things. First, make sure to change the wireless channel in the Actiontec to something like 8. Also, make sure that no cordless phones are located nearby the Actiontec router as much as you can. We mention this because many cordless phones operate in the 2.4ghz range which is the range of most WiFi routers and devices. You could also look into getting a range extender but I wouldn't recommend it because your Netgear router is essentially doing the same function without sacrificing service. Other than these suggestions, take a look at the link above and make sure your settings match. That should help you out more so than changing the channel in the Actiontec router and/or relocating cordless phones.
    We hope that this helps.

  • 6509 and 4948 Switch Routing Question

We have a 6509 switch in our core that handles routing between dozens of VLANs with it's MSFC.  I'm connecting a remote Layer 3 4948 Switch to the 6509 via a Gigabit Fiber Link.
The 4948 will be connected to servers on a couple subnets as well as an alternate internet connection that I would like to have the 4948 route between locally but also send traffic to the VLAN's on the 6509.  We are using EIGRP as our internal routing protocol.
The question I'm running into is whether I can setup a trunk link between the 6509 and the 4948, VTP, and setup EIGRP to route only using one of the trunk VLANs and between the local VLANs (with SVIs) and routed ports or would it be best to just setup a routed port to connect to one VLAN on the 6509.
The advantage I see if the trunk idea is feasible is that I can allocate certain ports to be access ports and go back to the 6509 to route and not be affected by local routing on the 4948.  I absolutely do not want the 4948 to take over routing of my entire network as it will be on the edge and the 6509 is the core switch/router.
The advantage with using the 4948 connected to the 6509 as a routed port is that nothing on the 4948 will interface with the 6509 at Layer 2 and I can also keep VLAN's local to that switch.  On the downside though this would prevent me from setting up VLAN's that span across the network connected to the 6509 or other areas of the network.
My other question is whether I should use the same EIGRP AS# on the 4948 so it interacts and shares routes with the 6509 or use a separate AS# to keep things isolated.
Any thoughts or ideas on these questions?

    Thanks for the advice.
I would assume then I would simply assign one physical port on my 4948 with an IP address with the no switchport command and  then set the ip address configuration rather than assign a SVI identical to the subnet connected to on the 6509?
Then could I create a new VLAN on the 4948 for the servers with an SVI to point my servers to as their default gateway.  I could then use eigrp to get routes shared between the switches and across my network.  I'm assuming I could just assign the physical port on the 6509 to one of my vlans as an access port (old 6509 CATOS so I don't have the "no switchport" configuration option).
Also, will it cause any problems if I have the same vlan setup on both switches (even though I'm not trunking them) as long as I don't use the same ip address space on each?
    Does that sound about right?
    Any other thoughts or suggestions?

Hi - was looking to buy a macbook air soon but wanted to get it with lion software....anyone know when that is available and second question is what is best software for personal money management that works with lion.....use quicken now   thanks

    quicken should work with lion.
Quicken Essentials will work with Lion.  Most people that have used Quicken for a while (i.e. Quicken 2007) have found that Quicken Essentials isn't much better than a basic spreadsheet.  It is a significant step down from previous versions and does not offer many of the features previously offered.  Right now, it seems like the two most common options are iBank and MoneyDance.
Frankly... this is a major opportunity for these companies.  The largest commercial distributor of this type of product has been Intuit (Quicken).  That makes it hard for any other company to get any of that market as so many people were already using Quicken and may have had years of data stored in it.  Now, with Quicken effectively out of the picture, it's a great chance for another company.  Just imagine if iPhones were suddenly off the market.  That would give other manufacturers a tremendous opportunity since they wouldn't have to fight an up hill battle against a market giant.

  • Adding a Second router to my LAN

I have 4 devices in my network -
    1. Cable surfboard modem
    2. WRT160N Wireless Router - 192.168.1.1
    3. Linksys 10/100 5-port wired switch
    4. WRT160Nv3 - 192.168.1.2
    My current setup is -
    1. Modem to first router. (WAN PORT)
    2. LAN Port from router to UPLINK port on switch
The switch is upstairs, the router is downstairs.  The wifi from the router does not reach upstairs, so I have bought another WRT160Nv3
How do i add this to my setup?  I've tried hooking the new router direct to a PC and configuring it so that it is NOT a DHCP server and changed the IP from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2 then connecting a LAN port from the switch to a LAN port on the new router and disconnecting the wired pc from the new router.
In the above setup NOTHING after the switch works.  I cannot get internet while the switch is connected to the second router on any computer attatched to the switch.  The wifi will not get internet either (from second router)
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  I am not trying to make a repeater using the same SSID, just simply trying to add an access point onto my current setup.
    Solved!

Make sure you have plugged in the switch and that the power switch is in the on position (sorry for the basic instructions, but i've had experiences with people overlooking common sense steps).
One other question...does the switch work correctly with just the primary router and a computer or just the secondary router (with DHCP turned on) and a computer?
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

  • BT Infinity - Problems and Poor Customer Service

    Hello,
We are new customers to BT - having only had our Infinity Fibre Optic connection installed into our new home 13 days ago. Since installation, it's become evident that the Hub struggles to maintain any decent wireless connection to the downstairs of the property, often providing download speeds of just 0.2 Mbps or around that figure.
Having run various tests and spoken with BT online, we came to the conslusion that we're suffering from a Wifi Black Spot. However, the advice received was for us to Purchase an second Router / Hotspot in order to fix the connection; which I find absolutely disgusting.
I find it very difficult to fathom that, as new customers who've just recently paid for the installation of this service, we're expected to pay to fix the poor quality of this service. BT off an official Wi-Fi Home Hotspot 500 Kit for £89.99 - so are you seriously telling me that we have to fork out another £90 to fix the substandard service we've received so far?
Especially given how early we are into the contract, I have to say how severly disappointed I am in the service received from BT at all levels. To expect brand new customers to pay to fix problems created by the service is absolutely dispicable, and if these issues are not addressed in a more fitting manner we may be forced to look into taking further action.
I look forward to your responce.
    Regards,
    Alan

Unfortunately no ISP will guarantee wireless speeds because there are to many variables involved in the transmission of wireless, such as environmental factors of the type of property you have, stone walls, concrete floors etc.
There are a few things you could try to improve things before spending money.
Make sure that "Smart set up" is turned off. see link how to so that
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44328/~/switching-smart-setup-on-and-off-on-the-bt-ho...
Some devices have a problem with the Homehub dual band having the same SSid (name). Try giving the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies different SSids. Just add a 5 to the end of the 5Ghz SSid so you know which is which. Check the 5 GHz Sync with 2.4 GHz: is set to NO.
Once you have done that "forget" the connection on your devices and then restart the devices and log onto both the SSids if the device can use both frequencies. Not all devices cn use 5GHz.
    See this link
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44798/~/i-have-problems-connecting-5ghz-and-dual-band...
Try downloading and running inSSider or another wireless scanner. This will show you the wireless channels that your Homehub/router is transmitting on as well as the surrounding networks. You want to take a note of the channels in use and change your Homehub onto a channel that is not being used.
See Link how to do that.

  • BT Infinity Problem and Atrocious Service

Hi everyone, first time poster, registered last week, hope someone can help me.
I've had BT Infinity since it arrived in my area last year, I was previously a very happy BE subscriber, but switched to BT when FTTC came to my area. All has gone well with my connection until a week ago, when it started to become very patchy, to say the least. My setup is as follows:
    1) White BT Infinity Modem
    2) HH3 plugged into the modem
    3) A Netgear 8-port unmanaged switch plugged into the HH3. I did this because of curiously dire performance from the second HH3 ethernet port
    4) Family laptops, iPad, iPhones etc use Wifi of various flavours through the HH3
    5) My Xbox 360 connects via Cat5e cable to the switch
    6) My PC/server/Media Centre connects via Cat5e to the switch
    7) My NAS (Synology Cubestation) connects via Cate5e to the switch
All has been well until a week ago, when the Broadband connection became patchy, for both Wifi and ethernet connections. Sometimes the connection would come back by itself, sometimes only when I rebooted the HH3 and modem. This got worse over a day or two, until I had no broadband connection at all.
The timeline from then is as follows:
    1) Thursday 3-Nov @ 6:15am - I phone BT Infinity support and report a fault. I confirm an appointment for Friday am, between 8am and 1pm. I login to BT.com and am able to see this appointment. My wife organizes to take the day off from work to attend, unpaid (she's a yoga teacher).
    2) Thursday 3-Nov @ 1pm - my wife arrives home to discover that a BT engineer has come and gone, leaving a "coudn't get in" card. Note, this was not a scheduled appointment.
    3) Thursday 3-Nov 2pm - I phone BT Support, and they confirm that an engineer will attend the following day, as planned. I'm worried there may be a problem with this, because of the unplanned visit. They have no explanation for the earlier unplanned visit. They tell me they have spoken to "BT Wholesale", and they confirm the Friday visit is still on. I login to BT.com and still see the planned appointment, by also see another appointment added for 11:39am that day, a record of the unannounced visit.
    4) Friday 4-Nov 10am - I call BT Support and they call BT Wholesale who confirm my visit for that morning is still going to happen. I login to BT.com and verify  the appointment.
    5) Friday 4-Nov 1.30pm - I call BT India to report that no engineer attended the appointment. They have no explanation for this, except to apologise, and suggest it may have been some confusion with the engineer. They make another appointment for Saturday 5-Nov, also 8am to 1pm. I login to BT.com and am able to see the appointment. I arrange to take Saturday morning off work, unpaid (I'm a contractor).
    6) Saturday 5-Nov 10am - I call BT Support and they call BT Wholesale who confirm my visit for that morning is still going to happen. I login to BT.com and verify the appointment.
    7) Saturday 4-Nov 1.15pm - I call BT Support to report that no engineer attended the appointment. They give me a lovely apology, and tell me that "BT Wholesale" cancelled the appointment. They cannot tell me why I didn't receive a notification, or why they couldn't tell me this earlier. They make another appointment for Monday 7-Nov, also 8am to 1pm. I login to BT.com and am able to see the appointment. My wife arranges to take a second day off work, unpaid.
    8) Monday 7-Nov 10am - I call BT Support and they call BT Wholesale who confirm my visit for that morning is still going to happen. I login to BT.com and verify the appointment.
    9) Monday 7-Nov 13:30 - No BT engineer attended this morning. This is the third missing appointment in a row.
    I have a few questions:
    a) Is this normal and acceptable BT service?
    b) What do I need to do to get an engineer to my house?
    c) How do I get my broadband working again?
    d) How do I escalate the whole affair to someone who can do more than just apologise?

My "Download IP Profile for your line is -38717 Kbps"
Therefore Max download speed I could achieve is 38Mbps
My "Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 2000 Kbps"
And my Max upload speed is 2Mbps
Artificially capped/reduced due to the Infinity Option 1 that I have. My line checker estimates upload capability of 11Mbps)
Have a look at THIS POST for an example of what the test result looks like.
    And HERE for screen shots.
If you haven't run the BT speedtester before and therefore do not have your IP profile... perhaps you have some speed test results from other sites that you can compare.

  • Adding VLAN to Po-Group and OSPF routing what is the correct way?

    Hi Community,
I recently had an issue that brought down the links between a couple of switches...luckily this was done after hours and I did not save the config so was able to revert back.
The basic scope of my project is:
We are running out of IP's on the 192.168.1.0/24 sunbnet so wanted to create a seperate VLAN/Subnet  for physical workstations.
    He is what I orginally did;
    1) On our core switch; (Switch1)
         Create the VLAN,
         VLAN interface,
         DHCP pool,
         excluded address'
    2) On second  switch (Switch 2)
         Add VLAN name, no interface
    3) I then updated the PO-group on Switch1 with new VLAN  (this brought down the link before I was able to finish my config)
Therefore I was not able to complete the following:
add vlan to spanning-tree or updated OSPF routing
Here is what I assume to be the correct order?
    1) On Core Switch (Switch 1)
         Create VLAN
         VLAN interface
         DHCP pool
         excluded address'
         add vlan to spanning-tree
add vlan (passive interface) and sunbet to OSPF routing
    2) On Switch 2
Add vlan name/interfaces with no ip
    3) Update PO groups after the above has been configured
Add new VLAN to Po-Group on Switch 2
Add new VLAN to Po-Group on Switch 1
    4) Last steps
Updated specific access ports with new VLAN and test
upon completion of testing, update all other access ports connected ot workstations with new VLAN

Did my links go down because I added new VLAN to Po-group BEFORE  updating spanning-tree and OSPF routing?
Can anyone verify the order as outlined in the section "Here is what I assume to be the correct order"

So the order in which to apply TASKS is correct?
also just to clarify the following TASK  based on your comments.
