Bt infinity homehub 5 disaster

I have had infinity for about 4 months now, switched from sky.
This seems to have been one of the worst decisions I could have taken.  The service is terrible.  The wifi, and Internet connections drop out at least half a dozen times a day.  I need to restart the home hub every couple of days.   Bt help are useless, they do a remote test and tell me nothing is wrong.  The system was installed by their engineer.
I am at the end of my patience with this system and am about to switch to another provider whatever the cost it is so bad.
As one last ditch attempt to salvage the situation does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be and what I can do to fix it?
Thanks in advance.

First, stop rebooting your hub. Every time you reboot, the DSLAM works on stablizing your connection. If you leave it on, it'll stabilize eventually.
If you have a Home Hub 5, ensure the DSL line is connected directly to the Hub and you don't have a white openreach modem in the way. You can take the white modem out of the loop entirely.
Ensure your Hub is connected to the phone line's master socket and you don't have any line extensions which could be interfering.
If you are still having issues, contact BT on 151 and demand to have an engineer visit your property.
There will be a charge for having the engineer out IF it happens to be a problem INSIDE your property.
If the issue is with BT equipment, it'll be fixed as part of your contract.

  • Need to Reboot BT Infinity Homehub every Morning

My average BT Infinity speed on good days from Sheffield Beauchief exchange seem to be 27-28Mb/s download, and 1.68Mb/s up.
However, for the last week I have had problems first thing in the morning: speedtest shows that the downloaded has plummeted to 0.5 Mb/s and upload to 0.1 Mb/s. The problem is only solved once I reboot the homehub.
Friends suggest that it might be a faulty homehub, but thought I'd post this first to see if anybody else is experiencing the same issue?

We have similar symptoms. Tried different computers and operating systems to eliminate hardware issues from my end. Interestingly, when both wired connections were giving around 0.5Mbps, the wireless one registered around 20Mbps. I physically disconnected the iMac from the hub, connected wirelessly and got even higher (mid 20s). Only way to consistently return the speed to the original high 30s is to reset the hub3, either by the switch on the side or from the settings page and disconnecting and then connecting to the internet. Had an engineer visit (he didn't turn up) and a new hub sent out (was slower than the original hub). Went back to the first hub and it was more stable, only once throttling the connection back to sub 1Mbps. Unfortunately, the trade off seems to be very variable speeds. Line profile shows acceptable range is 12 - 38Mbps and BT speedtest results have been as low as 3Mbps, with other speedtesters as low as 2Mbps. New engineer appointment for Sat. I hope we can get back to Infinity working normally, as it is excellent when working fully.

  • BT infinity HomeHub 5 flashing orange / new custom...

I had sky broadband until this morning when I was switched over to the apparently super-fast bt infinity up to 37mbps. Sold to me by a very keen salesman who didn't want me to leave BT.
At 12:30pm I received a delightful text telling me my new super fast infinity package was up and running. As I watched my happy fully working sky broadband box turn orange and go offline I plugged in my new HomeHub 5 (yes bt, I plugged the mains socket into the "mains" socket and the "DSL" into the "dsl") although I love the fact your tech team ask those questions!
I watched in anticipation as the home hub fired up but then started flashing orange, a quick look in the manual and there was nothing about flashing orange lights, there's plenty about the other colours of the rainbow but nothing about the power light flashing orange. So I called BT... "Turn the unit on and off again" I was told by BT tech, wow guys... genius, it's not like I'd thought of that but I did it again anyhow. Still a flashing orange light.
I was then told to wait a few hours which I did and again all I got was an orange flashing power light. I called BT tech again who once again said... "Turn the unit on and off again" these tech guys in India really know how to fix stuff things. Still an orange flashing light. I was then told to wait until midnight and it should be working.
Ok, so I work from home in media and need the internet to communicate, deliver & receive files, sometimes large files like video & audio. I have to make sure this is up and running by the morning or my job is going to go very wrong tomorrow. I stayed up till midnight and tried it again..... And of course the HomeHub just sits there, goes through it's power up cycle then flashes orange repeatedly (for over an hour). I called bt tech again and guess what "turn the unit off and on again" sigh.
As a result I will be calling 0800 800150 tomorrow cancelling this non eventful package and asking for a full refund and my PAK code.
Thanks BT, I won't be coming back.

  • BT Infinity - Homehub wireless access problem

    Hi all.
I had BT infinity installed last Tue, great 34.5M wahey!
Last night out of the blue, I lost my internet connection.  Tried resetting the HH, no difference.
Left it and went to bed, home at lunchtime today, still no go.
Have now tried another computer and it still has no internet access.
Both machines can see and connect to the wireless network OK, but it seems to connect with limited access and mentions an unidentified network...
PS.  It works perfectly fine if I use a cabled connection.
Not really sure of what to do now or what could have changed out of the blue.
I *think* the other "modem?" part is OK, not sure, Infinity leaves you a little blinded as the modem thing may as well be a black box as I can get no detail on it...

have you tried getting a new ip address for the p.c./laptop ? open a command prompt & type
    ipconfig /release  & press enter
    ipconfig /renew & press enter
( ensure there is a space between ipconfig and / )
    see if that helps

  • BT Infinity Homehub 5 & Android TV streaming devic...

Help needed!! I am trying to connect my Android XBMC device to my Homehub 5 router.  Unfortunately it is not connecting my Navix for movies or live sport channels.  When I connect my box to my friends router, all channels are found.  I have taken off the advance settings on my hub.  It looks like when I first connected the box to the router, My BT starter page appeared, but somehow I managed to get off that without clicking anything.  So not sure if it is still in 'getting started mode' and is blocking my internet traffic.  The xdmc is showing as connected but I am unable to do live tv streaming.  Any help would be appreciated!!

  • BT Infinity & Steaming via WMC and Xbox

    Hi,
This seems to be a fairly well known issue but since upgrading to BT Infinity and getting the new Home Hub I am having problems streaming content to my pc via Xbox and Windows Media Centre. I basically have to reset the modem and HH everytime I turn the xbox on. I have assigned the xbox the same IP via homehub settings but that hasn't helped. I've tried forwarding the ports but get a conflict error in homehub settings despite it being the only configuration. From reading other posts it seems a problem with the new infinity homehub.
Has anyone found a solution to this? I think I'll just buy a Netgear WNR3500....
    Paul

    FIGURED IT OUT!!!!
This has taken me 2 days and finally I can relax!!!
I could set up WMC on the Xbox streaming from my PC with an ethernet cable no problem at all. Until I turn the Xbox Off and try to use it again later on it would lose it's connection. The only way I could use it again without going through the pain staking time of setting it all up again or to swap Ethernet cables on the back of the router... That wasn't convienient......
I had tried all the things under the sun, port forwarding, turning firewalls off, wireless connection, wired connection.....
after trying again for another 2 hours this afternoon, I sat back and thought about it...
What is the Protocol Called to Stream Media?
I wrote this into google and this came up - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Time_Streaming_Protocol
RTSP - Real Time Streaming Protocol
I then thought does The Hub Manager have this Protocol Under Application Settings, YES IT DOES!!
I applied it along with the Xbox Live Setting.....
I turned my router off for a minute, my xbox off and restarted my PC.....
The Anticipation that filled up in my body waiting to see if it worked was unbelivable!!!!
    IT WORKED....... YES!!!!!
HANG ON A MINUTE! I Turned my XBOX OFF again and retried it, IT WORKED AGAIN HAS WORKED.....
Any Longer trying to figure this out might have made me return to Sky Broadband........
For A Guide to Add the settings to the Xbox Follow this: http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091110130828AAOYFkK Once completed to it again with "RTSP" instead of "Xbox Live"
Hope this all works for you as it did for me as its sooooooo frustrating!!!!

  • IMac can't locate my time capsule - using BT HomeHub

I can't locate my time capsule on my wireless network to enable back ups.  I have an iMac running Yosemite (but the problem pre-dates the update), a 1TB TC and a BT Infinity HomeHub (.n standard).  I want to use the HomeHub wireless network not the TC's, but all the apple documentation refers to using the TC's wireless network.  I've tried plugging the TC into the home hub via both the normal TC ethernet port and the TC WAN port - no joy.  I can back up fine if I connect the iMac and TC via cable, so the problem is down to the network.  Any suggestions please?

  • HomeHub is unable to resolve a DNS CNAME pointing ...

Just sent a technical compaint email off to BT to get an answer to this, but thought I would share here in case it helps anyone else.
    Problem:
My HomeHub 3 is unable to resolve DNS queries where the DNS has a CNAME pointing to my WAN address. BT's and other public DNS servers resolve correctly - so the problem is not with the DNS record.
    Background:
I have some devices at home which use DNS for name resolution. As a web developer, it is anoying that I have to use a different DNS name from inside my house to outside because of the above problem. It is also annoying that the only two workarounds I can think of are to a) buy a new (non-BT) router, or b) manually configure each device to not use the HomeHub for name resolution because BT have locked down the hub so I can't do it automatically.
    Reproduce steps:
    1) Set up a DNS record to point to your HH WAN address.
    2) Set up a second DNS record that ponts to the first with a CNAME.
    3) DNS queries to the first record succeed, queries to the second fail.
    4) Set up a DNS record to a different IP address (try adding 1 to your WAN address)
    5) Set up another CNAME to point to that address
    6) DNS queries to both addresses succeed because the CNAME doesn't point to your WAN address

At the BT Broadband Technical Helpdesk we can only help with an actual broadband fault. The scope of free technical support for your broadband is limited to the supply of a broadband connection to one computer with the Homehub at it's default settings.
I understand that you have specific setup requirements. I'm sorry that I'll be unable to help configure the Homehub the way you'd like it to work.

  • BT infinity - any way of using my existing handset...

Hi I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't find an answer.
I'm fully aware that BBT is not supported any more for new customers or for upgrades to BT infinity.
It took me a while to realise BT Infinity / homehub 3 doens't come with a handset, so what's the best option if I want to have a wireless handset / retain my caller ID?
Can I still use the homehub 2 handset / old hub in some way as a wireless phone?
Or is it just easier to ditch homehub 2 / handset and get some new wireless phone(s)?
Will that give me caller ID?

..and would it give me caller ID if I have it enabled (although, guess I can wait and see!).
Thanks again for your quick reply - made perfect sense.
There is no reason why not, the ADSL output on the microfilter is simply a "pass-thru" connection, so it will not affect anything else.
Just make sure that the telephony options are set so that you landline rings the hub phones.
You will have to plug in a computer to the hub to do this, because both hubs have the same default IP address.
You can also use your spare hub as an additional wireless point, but you have to make some additional changes to the config.

  • BT Infinity wireless problem

Hello. We just updated to BT infinity a few days ago from are old BB, the enginer came out and installed it, all seemed fine untill one of are 3 computers in the house (all on Belkin wireless) started to have a problem.
The computer connects and dissconnects when im on my normal web-sites that i goto (router light is still on). Thought maybe the wireless dongle was broken, so i tried it on one of the other computers and it works fine. So i thought ok, ill uninstall and re-install the Belkin software but that didn't work. So i connected up the cable to the router and that works fine. Im lost as to why my wireless will not work on my computer but the other two computers work fine. (all 3 computers worked fine on the old BB just 3 days ago). Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Hi
Just to confirm I have a PC and laptop both running windows XP, two laptops one with Vista and the other win 7 and finally a netbook with win 7... and all work well at the same time on my Infinity installation.
So don't worry about your 3 overloading things.
Is it possible to move the problem machine closer to the HUB as a test?
I am just trying to establish a working situation for it.... If it works can you then move it to the same area as one of the other machines and try it there?
It may be that the wireless channel your HH3 is on is ok on one side of the house but may be getting interfered on another side....
May be a neighbours signal on that side... or closer to microwave/video sender/street lights/Christmas lights, basically anything noisy.
You could try one of the working machines in the area that has problems but unless they are identical machines one may have better interference protection or wireless card.
I would download Innsider  and make a note of the channel your presently on and then go into the HH3 advanced settings - wireless and move from Automatic to a specific clear/least congested wireless channel... apply.
Some other wireless info msg #2 here.- http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/Homehub-slow-wifi/td-p/323713
    And http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/Disconnecting-for-2-3-seconds/m-p/322001#M17673
Edit I've assumed they're laptops that you can easily move around ie on wireless connection.... but reading your post again they may be PC's so not to easy to lug around.
So I would concentrate on identifying a clear/least used wireless channel using the inssider wireless scanner and then take the HH3 off automatic and try a few of those wireless channels.
Inssider is free but only for PC's not Macs... I think iStumbler or something similar is for Macs.

in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) bt speedtester and post the results .
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

For the Update to be possible, the DDNS setup page of your Swann Device need to be filled out with your DDNS credentials ( Username and Password from User Settings, and the Chosen Domain Name ). Also the DNS information in the menu Network needs to be valid.
You should find on the status page of your router the DNS servers that your Internet Provider prefers . If you cannot find that information from your router, you can try to use 8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4 as DNS, Prefered DNS (DNS1) or Alternate DNS (DNS2), which are provided by Google for free.

ensure that the network access is set to dhcp and that UPnP is enabled on your router-it should just work

You wil need to connect it to your HomeHub with a Cat5 cable, it will not extend wirelessly.

No need to change DNS setting with BT they are more reliable than most other ISP's,I wouldn't advise changing DNS settings on the PS4 either as it will conflict with the Homehub's routing.
I would sugest rebuilding the database in the safe mode menu, switch the PS4 off properly ie not in rest mode.Press and hold the front on button till you here a second beep, follow the on screen options to connect the DS4 by USB charge cable then run option 5 rebuild the database.
I would recommend sticking with a wired connection and putting the PS4 in the Homehub's DMZ.I am a BT Infinity Homehub 4 user had a please wait issue with a game update recently rebuilding the database did the trick.

Its a very common problem. The home hub 3 by default, uses a more secure connection method. Some older wireless cards need updating.
