BT Infinity - Homehub wireless access problem

Hi all.
I had BT infinity installed last Tue, great 34.5M wahey!
Last night out of the blue, I lost my internet connection.  Tried resetting the HH, no difference.
Left it and went to bed, home at lunchtime today, still no go.
Have now tried another computer and it still has no internet access.
Both machines can see and connect to the wireless network OK, but it seems to connect with limited access and mentions an unidentified network...
PS.  It works perfectly fine if I use a cabled connection.
Not really sure of what to do now or what could have changed out of the blue.
I *think* the other "modem?" part is OK, not sure, Infinity leaves you a little blinded as the modem thing may as well be a black box as I can get no detail on it...
Solved!

have you tried getting a new ip address for the p.c./laptop ? open a command prompt & type
ipconfig /release  & press enter
ipconfig /renew & press enter
( ensure there is a space between ipconfig and / )
see if that helps
free your computer, use opensource
i'm a linux user & very happy about it

  • Lion OS start-up causes wireless access problems

I installed Lion last week. Now when I turn on my Mac and it boots-up, I get a gray screen and I have to enter my system's password. When the OS does start my wireless access is non-functional unless I do a restart. Then it seems to work OK, except Safari will sometimes hang-up and indicate there is no internet access, eventhough my wireless is connected and working - I can still get mail, etc. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Start your system by holding down the option key (alt) and choose your system disk as start volume.

I guess that you have installed Lion as an Upgrade from 10.6.8.
If so, you should perform two steps now.
Perform a permissions repair with the Disk Utility on your system disk.
    Don't bother about upcoming warnings during that. It's normal. ( http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1448 )
Perform the following steps to make your wireless run smooth again.
According to Apple support, some configuration files may get damaged or corrupt by time, after updates or upgrades and should get deleted occasionally.
Switch off wifi on the machine.
Then go on and delete the files mentioned below.
You will find the files on your system drive (not your home folder) As you are using Lion, the Library is hidden. You have to use (menu bar) "go to" -> "go to folder" on finder to access them.
    /library/preferences/com.apple.preferences.accounts.plist
    /library/preferences/com.apple.preferences.sharing.plist
    /library/preferences/SstemConfiguration/preferences.plist
    /library/preferences/SstemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
If there are files in this folders with the same name but additional .orig at the end, delete them too.
It is possible that not all files are on your system. That will be ok.
The files will get newly created by system on reboot.
    For that reboot the machine.
    Join your wireless again.
If the problem (unlikely) persists, report back here.

  • RW180W wireless access problem

I have 2 access points on my LAN, the built in one on the RV180W (rv180ap) and an Edimax (edimaxap) access point.
I have had both working without any problems with my laptop (OpenSuse 12.1 and Windows Vista) using the RV180W in AP mode with another (Billion) router but I am having problems using the RV180W as the router..
With the RV180W acting as the router, I have been able to get a properly working connection with rv180ap and edimaxap but if I change my laptop from using one to the other, I loose the ability to reach the WAN (LAN access remains fine). Eventually, after say an hour, the problem clears but I then find I can not reach the WAN if I switch back to my orginal connection.
That at least was the situation when I was using my own DHCP server. When I use the RV180W's own DHCP server, the second wireless connection I try  fails 9/10 times because it can not get an IP address (on the 1/10 I get a connection but no WAN).
    Using Firmware 1.0.1.9

I've added another access point to the LAN.
Changing between the two external access points works perfectly.
Changing between either of these and the RV180W's internal access point causes the problems mentioned in my previous post.
I am aiming to have the RV180W with one of the other access points for roaming access but I can't with this happening.
    Any ideas?

  • Wired/Wireless access problems

We have recently moved home and the new ISP's ADSL line (Netgear 632) has gone live and whilst I am wired directly to the Aiport I get a full internet connection.
Whilst using the base station wirlessly I get annoying problems,; graphics won't load, pages won't load (sometimes they do if I hit reload a bunch of times).
My daughter's iBook works fine with the same connection no problems.
I have updated the base station firmware, used default settings wherever possible, and otherwise changed nothing.
So why can't I access the internet without problems?
I don't know where else to go with the trouble shooting process except ask here.
    Thanks for any advice/help.

Andy, please give us a little more info.
1st Who are you using for your Internet Service Provider.
    Virgin.net
What Modem did they furnish you with (Brand and Model)
NETGEAR DG632 ADSL MODEM ROUTER WITH USB & ETHERNET PORTS
What Wireless Router are you using (Brand and Model)
    Airport Extreme (5.7 firmware updated)
Have you checked with the Router Manufactures site and got the latest Firmware Update for there Router.
    Done
Remember when you use the term Airport it is really no more thn the term that Apple uses for there Wireless Technology which includes all of there products using the term Airport, which includes.
    Airport Card
    Airport Extreme Card.
    Airport Express Base Station
    Airport Extreme Base Station
If I read your explination right you are wired direct from the Ethernet to your Netgear you are Good.
I connect usually using the Wi-Fi part, and this is when it doesn't work properly. Sites not found, graphiccs missing etc. All of which are obtainable when connecting to the Aiport with a CAT5 cable or using my daughters iBoook, so I am not sure wher the problem is.
But when activating and changing from Ethernet to Airport in your System Preferences and NETWORK settings you are not so good.
Be sure when using Wireless you have the settings changed in the Network settings to AIRPORT. The little green dot must be showing and you need to drag it to the top of the list.
    Cheers Don

  • WRT54G Ver. 6 Wireless Access Problem

This router had been working but started having problems and dropping me off the internet via the wired connection to my ISP's modem.  I disconnected the WRT54G and connected directly to the modem and everything worked okay.   Based on Linksys troubleshooting web link I upgraded the firmware.  After this I had to go back and setup the router again.  It works fine now as a hardwired router but now I can't access the router thru its wireless capability with any of my computers or handhelds.   It was working fine wirelessly before.
I've set everything up like it was with WEP passphrase, etc.  I did change the passphrase and so the key is different, but I've changed this on the Palm and the Laptops to match.
When trying to access it from any of the devices I see it in the list, it will try and connect but and the message appears "Obtainaing IP address..." but it never gets it and the connection fails.  This happens on my Palm, and two laptops.

Thanks for the assistance.   I am using a Palm PDA and couldn't get it to work for the life of me.  Ends up after checking with Linksys's live session (that really works great) I was convinced the problem was not the router.   So I contacted Palm and through their live session I found out I needed to delete my old connection configuration and re-start from scratch creating a new one.   Apparently the old setup configuration on a Palm PDA keeps some old data that was messing me up.  It worked fine after re-adding the new logon configuration.
If anything I've learned quite abit about my router and my PDA.
    thanks again...

  • IOS 6.0.1 - Problems with certificate based authentication on wireless access point

    Hi all
We are using iPad 2 as order terminals in our shops for about 5 months. Some of the iPads (the first who entered the field) started to cause problems now. These iPads are no longer able to keep long-term connection to the wireless access point in our stores. After selecting the SSID a successful authentication using the stored EAP-TLS certificate is performed (this can be seen in the log files of our wireless controller and by the IP adress that is given by DHCP). But within seconds the affected iPads opening up a captive portal page (empty, without contents) and separates the connection to the SSID after a short time again.
Affected are currently only iPads 2 with iOS 6.0.1, which were staged about 5 months ago. The newer devices with iOS 6.1+ connect without problems and open no captive portal page. The first cases occurred on the last Wednesday. Before that everything worked without difficulty. No modifications took place on the security structure.  The numbers of affected devices increased until all iOS 6.0.1 were affected.
Access to other SSIDs (without use of certificates, by entering a key) for the devices is still possible (the devices does not open an captive portal page). The DHCP scope is not used up, so there are enough IP addresses available.
"Newer iPads" with an iOS of 6.1+ are are showing no problems on the same wireless access point, where the older devices are rejected. New and old devices use the same certificates and authentication mechanisms.
In the analysis of the issue, it turned out that  the problem can be solved by an update to iOS 6.1.3. Subsequently, the iPads will be able to rebuild a connection with the access point, without a captive portal page.
Since the bandwidth is very narrow dimensioned in our stores, the communication of the iPads was severely restricted. Thus, the iPads are for exampleare accessible for the APNS but can not find iOS updates or check for their availability.
A comprehensive update to iOS 6.1.3 is currently excluded.
Does anyone knows this issue? What else can be done (except from updating)?

I will answer my own question in case it helps anyone else.
It would "seem" the ios 6 devices try the proxy and if that is not working they resort to the def gateway.
To Fix I did the following:
Brocade WIFI network has IPS and Advanced Firewall rules that seemed to be tthwarting some traffic, the iphones would then try the default gateway and be blocked at the FW.
I disabled the IPS and the Advanced Firewall Settings on the wifi as they are redundant to our main IPS and firewall that all traffic flows through anyway.  I will tune it later, but when the CEO is demanding a fix "**** the security, full speed ahead"
Created some rues on the firewall to allow...
    - IMAP-SSL (port993) outbound
    - SMTPS (port 465) to yahoo servers outbound
    - tcp port 587 to yahoo servers outbound
    - https to akamai servers
Most http and https goes through the proxy as it should, BUT...
It seems that the akamai traffic allways ignores the wifi proxy settings and just heads straight for the default gateway.  I suspect there is a bug in the icloud app?
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • I have recently encountered a problem when trying to access 3G network from IPAD2.  Wireless access working fine.  When going on safari it attempts to access page and then comes up with message that 'server stopped responding'.  I have tried resetting.

I am unable to access 3G network, although wireless access is working fine.  When opening a page in safari it churns for a while and then says that server has stopped responding.  I noticed on one forum that it said something about changing brightness settings causing a conflict - coincidentally this first started happening after I had tweaked brightness.  I have tried resets etc, but still no joy.  Any ideas?

  • An Error Occurred while trying to join "my wireless access point"

    Hi,
I've been using wireless access for a year and never had a problem connecting.
But starting yesterday I get a +*An Error Occurred while trying to join "my wireless access point", Please try again.+* Message.
I have 2 Mac's and have no problem connecting with the other one. It’s just the IMac.
I tried everything including resetting router, changing password, adding a $ to the password, accessing without password, deleting the whole air port and create a new one, but still getting the same message.
I might need to add, while I was working with the IMac I didn’t use wireless for a few hours, but when I got back to my browser I noticed that I was connected to a different wireless service. (FONFREEINTERNET if it matters) I have no idea why, since I didn’t change it.
Anyways, I tried to switch back to my access point, but it wouldn’t let me. It’ll just give me the +*An Error Occurred while trying to join "my wireless access point", Please try again.+* Message.
Funny is when I use the FONFREEINTERNET access point the internet seems to work fine.
I could look up Google without a problem, but when I tried to connect to Facebook for example it won’t let me. Instead a FONFREEINTERNET page will pop up with some options on how to pay! (by minute/or day/or week…)
I get the strange feeling that they planted some kind of bug/virus!!!
I don’t know what else to do.
Anyone knows that problem? What can I do?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    I researched on FONFREEINTERNET, there’s a spot close to my house/guess that’s the one I used…
http://maps.fon.com/ ZIP CODE 904-0113 and you’ll see a coffee pod, which is about 2 minutes walk from my house.

    Hello Tesserax,
I get the same error message again...
I tried the 3 suggested steps again, but unfortunately it did not work.
After a Restart, Sleep or just the awaking from Screensaver mode I’m disconnected from my wireless Network anymore.
Even if the Computer was asleep for just a second!
I am able to fix the problem temporarily with Network Preferences → Assist me → Diagnostics
Choose Airport → Choose network → Enter Password (Even if I check safe password it’ll ask me every time) → and than usually all lights on the left menu switch from red to green and I get the popup message “A Network Change has been detected. Your Internet seems to work fine.” (similar - I’m at work and don’t remember exactly)
And it works fine…until the screensaver comes on or it sleeps again
I have the Problem with my IMac and Mini but the IMac at least remembers my password…
    Any Ideas

  • Wireless Connection Problems for Home Hub 3 and Vi...

We have upgraded from BT Home Hub 2 to version 3 and had a BT man (engineer) visit to set it up. He did so with no problems on our PC (wired, runnning XP) and installed all relevant software on the PC and this is connected which so far has been fast (enough - as expected) and reliable. Once the 'main' computer in the house was connected we then tried to connect other things to the internet using this BT Hub 3.
However when attempting to connect our family laptop (running Vista) we hit trouble. Initially I tried to use the icon in the tray (bottom right of the screen) by clicking on connect to a network, then selecting our hub, then inputting the wireless key and going through the menus correctly. It would only connect 'locally' and not recognise the hub. It says identifying then says unidentified (public network BT Hub 3) and only 'local' access which I then change to private network. With my preivious internet I was able to set it up as Home network - now I can only choose between public or private BUT NOT Home, Work or Public.
So I then tried the BT disc that comes with the hub into the laptop. I go through the menus - it asks is the broadband light steady blue? Yes. Click next to continue wireless set up. So I press continue. It then asks for the wireless network/SSID BTHub3- numbers and letters and the wireless key. So I put that in correctly (double checking) and click next. It then says Connecting to your Hub which then gets ticked but then the checking wireless key doesn't tick - it crosses, and says failed. It asks me to check I typed the numbers and letters correctly (I am sure of that) and It goes to Manuel set up. Where I select my hub and again type in the wireless key and click next. But the same thing happens - connecting to your hub gets ticked but checking wireless key fails.
I then get a message that says i should do a wired set up, which I can do and works but on the laptop wired solutions is just not satisfactory - laptops need wireless connectivity. Is this a problem with my laptop, Vista or the hub/modem or a combination.
I also have been able to connect other things to the internet such as a netbook (running Windows 7) and a games console. Please comment if anthing needs explaining or more detail. Your help will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

John46: I uninstalled the Hub programmes you said to. I then tried to connect to a network (wirelessly - accessed either by going to Start - Connect to or from the icon in the tray (bottom right). I selected my hub and clicked connect. It does its thing and says 'successfully connected to...' I close that and go onto Network and Sharing Center and it shows its trying to identify the network and wait a few seconds it then shows 'unidentified network (public network)...' and that I have only got local access and so cannot surf the web.
As I mentioned in my earlier post:
With my previous Internet I was able to set it up as Home network - now I can only choose between public or private BUT not got the choice between Home, Work or Public.
    Hope I've explained myself.

  • Apple TV 2G (Airplay and Homesharing) can only stream from devices on the same wireless access point range??

    connection:
40 Mbps Fiber Broadband connection using:
    Devices:
    1. Main Modem/router (AP1): Huawei HG8245 (provided by ISP) - Wireless enabled.
    2. Remote Access point (AP2): Linksys/Cisco E3200 Wireless gigabyte router flashed with DD-WRT v24-sp2 (06/14/11) mini (Cascaded -wired- LAN to LAN from main modem).
    3. Wireless Repeater to cover a dead spot  (AP3): Linksys/Cisco E1000 wireless repeater.
    4. Apple Tv (AT2G) with home sharing/airplay enabled.
5.( Ipad) with home sharing on itunes enabled.
    6. Win7 (PC) using iTunes with Home sharing enabled.
all devices are updated to their latest firmware.
In order to cover a large 3 story house with Wifi. I had (AP1) is located on the first floor, while (AP2) is located in the basement floor directly wired by LAN to LAN with (AP1). (AP3) is located on the Ground floor away from the living room to repeat wireless network into the back yard. While (AT2G) is located in the living room on the ground floor right in the middle of both (AP1) + (AP2) while connected via Wifi.
Network SSID, security, passphrase and wireless settings of (AP2) are identical to (AP1) to create a single big LAN/WLAN roaming network where all devices connected to both wireless access points can find/share the others. As understood, it's refered to as bridging.
I have noticed that my iphone/ipad does not show the airplay button anywhere within the wireless network. it seems that the apple TV randomly choses to connect to the AP with stronger signal, or switch to the other in case of a reboot to one of them.
to elaborate further, if i was sitting in the living room (groundfloor), trying to airplay some you tube contents via Wifi to my Apple TV, i may not find the airplay button available all the time, i found out the reason is while i'm wirelessly connected to AP1, the Apple TV was connected to AP2 and both deviced cannot detect each others to enable my purpose. that goes the same for Home Sharing. only if my Ipad/PC and Apple Tv are on the same wireless AP. they would detect each others immediately.
although, the second AP (AP2) is suppose to extend my wireless network of the same subnet in which any device connected can be found.
After all sorts of trial and error tweaking my router/access point, I thought the problem would be due to the Linksys 3200 capability of bridging WLAN and lacks few protocols that enables my purpose. i have flashed the firmware to a DD-WRT, but again, problem was not solved.
I have not tried having my Apple Tv wired to either router/AP, but i assume it may work well if i do so. i still need to solve this wireless connection issue though.
Am i the only one with this problem, would there be something wrong with my setup?
    Your feedback is highly appreciated.

You may or may not already have your network set up correctly, it's just that I can't tell from what you have said.
I have a main router provided by my ISP, I have several other Airport Extremes and Airport expresses connected by Ethernet, all set up to bridge the network created by the main router.
Each maker has their own settings, but bridging should be reasonably obvious. In simple terms my main router distributes IP addresses to all devices, the Airports bridge that network by passing these addresses to the devices from the main router. A base station that isn't in bridging mode will distribute its own addresses to the devices connected to it.
I don't really follow your next point.
instruction for configuration vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, the best course of action here is to refer to the manual. If everything is set up properly the addresses of everything on your network will have identical sets of numbers for the first 3 of 4 groups of numbers that make up an address, the last set must always be different. I think the part you are referring to with your DD-WRT is the option to have Ethernet and wifi bridged or not.
Some routers may be easier to configure than others, but generally speaking they should all work with the Apple TV. 5Ghz is less likely to suffer interference but it is much more likely to be blocked by solid objects, it may or may not be an advantage.

  • N800 no longer detecting any wireless access point

The device is working fine couple days ago, then today when I turn it on, the "connection manager" can no longer see any wireless access point. Not only my home network, also
my neighbor's wlan. My laptop can detect 10 networks
around my house. I try upgrad my os to the latest version and it is still not working. Is anyone has similar experience ? Is it a hardware problem ? Any advice will be
    welcome.

It happened to my N800 too just a couple of days ago after I installed a number of applications. I have already removed those applications but the N800 still would not detect the access points that it usually detects with no problem.
It could not detect the WLAN inside our house even if the N800 was physically sitting on top of the router. It would intermittently detect my neighbor's WLAN (the one which I usually use) but it would not log on to it.
I tried removing the battery hoping to reset it but nothing changed.
It also would not connect to my PC via USB. The computer could not detect it. This one happened even before I installed those applications.
    Help!!!!

  • I can't get my macbook to access shared files on a windows computer when it's connected through a wireless access point.

I recently bought a Netgear Wireless Access Point to use in the office so we can have a wireless network.  I configured the wireless network, and I am currently connected to the internet.  However, I no longer can access the shared files on the Windows computers like I could when I was hardwired in with an ethernet cable.  I've disabled all of the internal firewalls on all of the computers (and there's no firewall built into the WAP), all the computers are on the same workgroup, and I've tried accessing the computer with the shared files directly via the IP address using the instructions found here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8849.html.
My computer sees that the other computers on the network are there.  They show up in the network view from the finder.  However, when I try to connect to them, it tells me the connection failed.  When I click connect as, it says:
    "Connection Failed
"The server “PC-ASSISTANT” may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
When I try to connect via the "connect to server" on the finder, I type in "smb://10.0.0.103/Word Processing"  It tells me:
"There was an error connecting to the server “10.0.0.103”. Check the server name or IP address, and then try again.
If you are unable to resolve the problem contact your system administrator."
I have no clue what the problem is. I'm not really an IT person or a networking guru.  Can someone please help?

You posted in the Older Hardware forum, which is for pre-year 2000 hardware. Suggest you post your question in the Airport forum at https://discussions.apple.com/community/wireless/airport

  • Determining which wireless access point a computer is connected to?

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong forum...
I am working in a large open space where there are multiple overlapping wireless access points -- not Airports but from another vendor. Unfortunately, several computers are experiencing wireless performance and dropout issues. I think the problems may be because the laptops (both PCs and Macs) are connecting to a more distant access point across the open space which is more "line of sight" than the closer access point. We can't confirm this theory, however, because I can't pinpoint which access point we're connecting to. This is possible with a PC, but I can't find such a piece of software for my PowerBook. Is anyone aware of such a utility?
    Thanks so much.
    Brita

Air Traffic Control widget. Search the download section for this useful widget. This widget lists all wi-fi access points, shows what channel each one is on, what the signal strength is and some vendor information.
Whichever access point you are connected to is listed in italic on the list. I like the fact that it is a widget as it makes it very easy to access.

  • AppleTV 2G as wireless access point

Hi, I thought of the possibility to turn AppleTV 2G as wireless access point when not in use as entertainment, there is an ethernet port and an integrated wifi connection, why not? Need only develop the right application ..

I'm tired of all these naysayers.  Why don't you guys just go watch a movie with gw.  That's what you want anyway.  If the hardware is capable of it, OF Course its possible.  Anything's possible really.  Because you don't know how to do it does not make it impossible, it means you don't know how to do it.  So, if this device can stream wirelessly in both directions hardware wise, some software would be able to make this happen.  I'd check out iclarified.com.  They have a section on Apple TV.  All you would need to do is jailbreak it and have the right software to do it.  Problem solved.  Now was that so difficult?  Baybeee

  • 1242AG Wireless Access Point - Cannot Get DHCP IP for BVI1 interface - Multiple SSIDs...

    Hello,
I am attempting to set up three Cisco 1242AG Wireless Access Points with multiple SSID's. I used the web interface and directions online to set up the two networks I want and at least one of the networks work wirelessly.
    However, I have two problems:
The first, which is the most important, is that the "management" interface, BVI1, doesn't get an ip address from our DHCP server. I set the VLAN 60 (which you'll see in the documenation below) to be the native VLAN on the device as well as on the switch that the device is connected to as well as other settings in the configeration file below. Because of this, I can only manage the device via the console port which would be a huge pain once all of the devices are mounted.
The second problem is that I am not sure how to get both wireless networks broadcasting their SSID's. I have to manually type in the SSID for the second wireless network I have which I would prefer I don't have to. Anyway I can enable broadcasting on all of the SSID's?
    Thank you for your time.

I am using a third party DHCP server which is our Windows Domain Controller. I have the ip helper-address set for the native vlan of the Access Point through a layer 3 distribution switch (a Catalyst 4506) that the current switch connects to.
I didn't see any event on the logs for the AP.
Let me know if I need to do something else.
    Thanks.
