BT Infinity Hub

Can anybody shed some light on this matter as the BT TECHNICAL HELPLINE does not appear to be able to answer a simple question. Can an IP Based PoE phone be connected to a BT Infinity Hub and if so how is it connected ?.

PPP authentication is done by the BT home hub 3, so PPPoE would not be needed to be enabled on the phone.
If you mean POE (Power over Ethernet), then the home hub does not supply any power on its ports, you would have to add your own power insertion splitter and power supply, like the TP-link TL-POE200.

  • Bt Infinity hub and USB printing

    Hi all.
I have recently got BT Infinity and the new homehub required. I am liking the service though the new hub does not allow me to plug a printer into the USB port on the back.
I know the homehub does not officially support printing, but my previous homehub (version 2) allowed me to plug a printer into the usb port and use 192.168.1.253 as an ip address.
When I plug the same printer into the new infinity hub the homehub page says that nothing is connected to the usb port. If I plug a flash drive into the port it is recognised straight away.
When I plugged my printer into the usb port of the old version 2 homehub the hub page recognised the printer was plugged into the usb port and even gave the name and model of the printer.
Has anything changed that for the infinity hub that would make adding a usb printer impossible? Does anyone else with infinity have a usb printer plugged into the back of their hub? If so how did you get it to work?
Any help/info on this matter would be grately appreciated.

    Having the same issue.
What a shame I have to leave my old wireless router plugged in just so that I can use the shared printer.
Is there a reason this is disabled?

  • Infinity Hub 3.0

Hi there, I have had BT Infinity less than a year so far, the service has been great. However the Infinity Hub 2.0 seems to crash on the wireless side quite often, I have to reset it quite regularly.
Is the wireless any better now on the Hub 3.0?
How do I get one of these new Hub 3.0's? Can I get one for free?
    Thanks
    Dan

@Gonzo:  BT probably had a large stock of HomeHub3B with out of date firmware, so on install you start with this out of date firmware.  This should be updated automatically pretty soon.  I don't know exactly how they are managing the updates to recently installed out of date equipment that missed the initial update cycle, but they must be allowing for it, and for equipment that happened not to be plugged in when the initial cycle happened.
You can check by looking at the HomeHub page http://192.168.1.254/.  At the bottom it will say "Software version V100R001C01B031SP12_L_B" if it has been updated, and something similar with SP09 in if it hasn't.
If the need for reboot persists after software update, or you don't get the update in the next week or so, or you already have the update and it still isn't working, post again.

  • Infinity Hub

    hi guys,
Am getting infinity on 2nd March. Just wanted to see what the general consensus/feedback is on the infinity hub (presumably also know as the Hub 3?). My current setup is using a Hub v2.0 type A (tried a type B but wireless was awful). It's wireless range is okayish but not great. Our main socket is in the lving room downstairs whilst my study/converted bedroom) is upstairs about 15 metres away. The wireless is a bit up and down reaching into the study. Flickers between 18 mbps to 54 mbps and even a cryptic '1.1gbps????' at times and as such the download speeds are a bit all over the place. As low as 1 mbs, as fast as 8.7 mbps. So I guess the walls are blocking out quite a bit. I have tried every wireless channel possible, 11 seems to be the best but it's still not fantastic. Our main bedroom at the far side of the house is even worse, right on the cusp of the wireless range methinks. It will work in there but drops quite a bit and as one of the missus' favourite pastimes is surfing on the iPad sitting in bed it's not ideal really.
So I guess what I am asking is whether the infinity hub yields much improvement in the wireless department? It would have to serve a mix of 'G' and 'N' devices. Would an independant router be better once infinity is installed be better, any recommendations? Is their a guide to BT settings that need inputting should I use a 3rd party router?
    Thanks in advance,
    Wayne

look on the forum there is a ton of posts on all these issues including a recent one by me! Just for a starter I would try and set the wireless channel to one that is not shared by anyone around your immediate area. Cuts out interference. Secondly and so far its proving right, wireless N on this router is broke, switch it to B & G only and see if there is any improvement? So far its sorted out my issues. Currently waiting on the HH3 coming out and then I`m gonna complain and see if they will replace the router. Its not fit for using wireless N which is **bleep** all use when you have 40mb infinity!

  • BT Infinity Hub and PS3 connection problem.

    Hi
I have had my BT Infinity installed today, my laptop, desktop and Iphone have all connected no problem, but my PS3 will not let me connect for some reason? It sees the hub, I enter the key but then it will not find the IP address?
I have done a bit of research and it seems the PS3 doesnt support 802.11N? But others say this shouldnt make a difference as it is backward compatible? Any help or suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Bt Infinity Hub replacment and reseting hub questi...

    Hi all
I was wanting to ask a couple of questions about the hub
Q1 I have read many times on here that when people have speed problems to reset the home hub to sort it out. The question is why ? I would of thought reseting the openreach modem would sort out your speeds and not the home hub router as its just a router why would the hub effect your speeds and how does reseting the hubg fix this ?
Q2 I have read that you can use other routers with a wan port to replace the home hib which i own a netgear DGN3700 which i have not tried yet. I herd this can increse or decrease your line speeds is this true and if so how as i thought again the modem would do this and not the router ?
Q3 I have had my bt infinity installed for 3 days and wanted to know is it best to wait for the 10 days for the line to get a fixed speed before replacing the home hub with your own router ot does this not make any difference to your line syncs, can it effect the 10 day line test period.
any help on the subject would be great
    thanks

what do you mean power the modem ofF with the dsl cable ?
so what your saying is i need a good replacment router to make sure there is no bottleneck to the modem to keep getting my 76mb speeds
     i was lokking at the
    netgear DGN3700v2
    or
    Asus RT-AC66U
            RT-AC56U
            RT-N66U
the bt hub 4 is ok but wanted somthing with a few more options. would there be anyproblems if i replaced the hub 4 ? should i wait till my 10days of line testing to be over first before i replace the router.
you said Hubs appear to slow down sometimes as they are remotely managed by BT via motive.com is this the same for any hub not just BTs hubs.
why are they remotely managed anyway ?
    thanks

  • BT Infinity Hub 4 & PS3

I'm having a problem with running 2 ps3 on the one hub in the house. I have infinity with the hub 4, my kids have a ps3 in the living room and I have mine in the bedroom.
The problem I have is port forwarding. I can only set up one ps3 as a ps3 device in the hub settings, when I try to do the second one it says I cannot have another device using same ports.
How do I get round this as when both are online one that isn't registered as a ps3 for port forwarding is freezing online.

factory resetting the home hub would be the best way then just setting up your connections for your ps3s again. making sure you select to use upnp. make sure ps3s are off when factory resetting the hub.
there should be a reset button on back of hub in a tiny pinhole

  • 7 days before Infinity Hub Phone disconnected - no...

    Hi everyone,
As a neewbie, apologies if my situation is what I should be expecting.
Yesterday I ordered an upgrade from Broadband 3 to Infinity 2.
I had a £2 loyalty bonus on the Broadband3 but this was to be lost on the upgrade.
I received 2 emails one confirming I had requested the "hub phone" to be disconnected! I hadn't but realise that with Infinity I lose the option to keep it.
The second email was to confirm our discussion about "BT Vision" - There had been NO conversation about BT Vision - I then realised that it was addressed to Mm? and the telephone number was not mine!
I looked at the "track my order" and the info there at least seems to be correct.
I tried phoning BT, and even speaking to someone in the UK didn't get the impression that the agent really cared!
Today my Hub Phone was disconnected - Hopefully my existing phone and broadband won't go the same way.
Michael (who thinks he should have stayed with his 2Mb rather than try the promise of 36Mb)

My Broad Band Talk was disabled fairly soon after (a day or so) ordering Infinity. I also had an email telling me.
However my ADSL BroadBand continued working up to the Infinity installation day.
Sad to hear about your delayed HH3 delivery and hope it arrives on time however it is cutting it fine.
Mine arrived on the Wednesday and Infinity installed on the Friday. Edit come to think of it this was only 4 working days after I had ordered.
This gave me a couple of days to remove my HH2 and use the HH3 on my existing BT broadband.
Imho I found very little difference between the HH2 and HH3..... I was still able to receive a similar strength signal at the bottom of the garden... no better or no no worse.
Anyhow good luck for your installation and please let us know how it goes.
Ohhh and lets hope those two parallel lines do end up having a HH3 and Openreach Modem connected to them....

  • BT Infinity Hub 3 slow to load pages and drops out...

Hi can anyone help, I have had Infinity option2 for less than a month and it has not work properly since it was installed,
done all the around the houses with help from India and they have thanked me for my patience and acknowledge there
is a fault which they say they have fixed, but it's getting worse.
When I do a speed test I get 36Mb down and 8Mb up, great but when I am loading websites they usually take a long time to load and frequently drop out, when I hit the diagnose connection they usually load. I also cannot send or sometimes receive email from my accounts, with server error fault messages also my webcam does not work I can here them but they cannot here me, never had these problems with my previous ISP on only 8Mb.
    Thank you, getting desperate now!

Mate, I feel your pity as, although I've only had Infinity for 4 days, I'm having the exact same problem and NEVER had this issue in the 4 years I was on BT Total Broadband.  To summarise:
Day 1 - Everything worked perfectly
Day 2 - Internet would not load one single page
Day 3 - Working perfectly again
Day 4 - Most pages load, albeit VERY slow
BT India have told me that I have a fault in my line and an engineer will call me back in the next 24/48 hours.  Apparently I was the first person on my cabinet to have Infinity installed so I'm guessing I'm the guinea pig!!!

  • BT Infinity Hub stuck at 2-3 mbps and constant dis...

It first started with the Hub 2 which would constantly disconnect and run slowly from the laptop, playstation, smartTV, BT box, mobile phone a few times every hour. After the poor customer service and days of being told to 'restart the hub' etc etc an engineer was sent out and installed the Hub 3, which seemingly worked.... until a speed check, I have tested the speed every day for the past month and the download speed has never gone over 3mbps and usually sits around 2.5mbps. After weeks of being on the phone and trying to restart the Hub etc they sent a new Hub 3, which when tried to install wouldn't power up at all. The on-demand is constantly affected, and every 3 seconds the spinning triangle will come up and be like that for 10+ seconds. So back to the old Hub 3 which rang in at 2.5mbps. As BT seem so against sending an engineer I don't know what to do, I'm at my wits end with this and feel like going to Sky or Virgin as with BT I've had numerous months of no on-demand and internet at months at a time with no recompense. They keep trying to tell me that our laptop is faulty, except that I've had 3 different friends bring their laptops around and they measure 2-3 mbps, and they still are trying to say it's my laptop.

  • BT Infinity Hub v4 - range extender issues BT 500 ...

I was pleased with Infinity, but v4 wireless range seemed worse than v3 - so I decided to install some range extenders to get the system working in my office at the top of the house - I bought a  BT Extender 500 Kit.
When first installed it worked really well in my office for 24 hours with an XP desk top (called XP1), then when I started up aat the beginning of yesterday, the system tells me there's limited or no connectivity and since then I've rebooted everything - PC, router, extenders several times but the signal won't return. Using the same make of extender in the next room to my upstairs office, the system works well on a different XP PC (called XP2). XP2 also will work with wireless in this location but slower; XP2 will  not work in the same location as the failing to connect XP1. Another XP PC (called XP3) is working well via ethernet wired directly to the router.
Whilst XP1 has failed the other 2, XP2 and XP3 have continued to operate without a problem (so far, fingers crossed)
Any ideas to get XP1 working via a range extender?

    Richarddixon wrote:
Both are bt extenders and there is only one master.
I have 3 in total, but I am only using 2, 1 master and and 1 slave.
Thats fine, if they are all BT 500 extenders, then there should be no problem. All you can do is to try them in the same room, and make sure that they are not faulty.
There are not normally any problems with powerline type devices, provided they are both connected to the same mains consumer unit, and not via any extension leads.

  • Fixing a IP address on new infinity hub

    Hi All,
For various reasons I want to keep the same IP address on my laptop (wired connection).
So I went to advanced settings/home network/devices and selected "yes" to keep the IP address as the same.
    Worked fine at first.
But now it seems to ignore the fixed setting and allocates a new IP address every time. Looking at the device lists there are numerous entries for the same laptop. Some with "yes" selected some with "no" selected.
Have tried deleting the extra entries but still have the same problem.
Anybody else had this problem or know a solution ?
    thanks
    David

    Hi Ectophile,
It was set to receive a DHCP address. Last night I tried with fixed addressing. It works ok , but I've got over ten different OS installs. It worked fine with my netgear adsl modem/router. So I wanted to keep it the same with the new BT hub.
It makes life easier with new installs as most start with DHCP enabled.
It seems that the device list keeps the connected status and on a reboot of the laptop a new address is allocated ignoring the mac address associated with the IP address.

  • Infinity home hub 2

Well it all went well with the installation, until he plugged the new bt homehub into the openreach modem that is. The broadband light would'nt turn a solid blue, it just stayed orange. Anyway he went to his van and put a home hub 2 with the red ethinet on it, and it works fine. Im now getting 38mb down and 8mb up, with im very happy with. But my main point is, is that when i ordered infinity, they took away my bt talk because they're not compatable with the new hub 3. So surely with this other hub i should be able to get it reconnected right?. I tried registering the old hub phone to the infinity hub and it registered fine. Anyone know about this. Thanks in advance

    Hi Scratch910,
Thanks for posting. Sorry for the delay in getting back. Once the Infinity has been activated and the Talk switched off we can't reconnect the Talk service because it's not compatible with the Infinity service even though you're using the Hub 2.
    Cheers

  • HP Deskjet 3070a and BT Infinity Home Hub 2.

I purchased a HP Deskjet 3070a yesterday and I can't get it to connect to my BT Infinity Home Hub 2. There are 2 ways of connectng to the wireless network:
    1) Push the WPS button on Hub - but the BT Infinity Hub doesn't have one
    2) Enter the 8 digit pin (generated by the printer) into the routers configuration - I can't see anywhere in the Hub to configure this
I purchased the printer to use Wireless ePrint so if I can't resolve I will return to HP.
I see other people have experienced similar problems. I can't believe a standard HP printer has problems connecting to one th UK's most widely used broadband hubs.
    Hope someone can help
    Brad

There is a third way to get Deskjet printers on a network.  The primary method of connecting the deskjet to a network is to use the software on the computer to do a USB to Wireless connection.
What operating system does the computer use?
The steps to do this for your respective operating system can be found in this document from HP.  The steps start after the WPS method.  USB to wireless will require a computer on the same network and a USB cable to transmit the network data to the printer.
