BT Infinity installation CD cannot connect to BT H...

I finally got my Windows XP activated on my laptop after finding my lost product key code. Up until now, I've been using Ubuntu 10 (Linux). So I inserted my BT Infinity "Is your broadband light blue?" - I clicked 'Yes'. Then it searched for 'available connections'  - it came up with "You can connect to your hub using wireless or a wired ethernet connection, unfortunately we can't detect EITHER of these connection types on your computer"
I rang the BT help desk who got me to 'cmd - ping'. That was no good either.
The thing is - BT Infinity WIFI works perfectly well with the Ubuntu operating system - why not with Windows XP?
Oh - and Windows XP works perfectly on the (different) laptop I'm using now.
I don't want to return to Ubuntu as I prefer Windows.

To check its turned on it will be either a switch on the laptop or a key combination such as FnF3 or FnF9.
To check that your Network drivers are installed and that the wireless card and Ethernet controller are installed and working :
Go to START > Control Panel >  Device Manager > Network Adaptors. Click on this and it will open and show you what is installed and that the correct drivers are installed. There should be no yellow exclamation marks.
Once you have done that report back if there are any problems.
I would also uninstall the BT Helpdesk. It usually does everything except help.  To uninstall it follow this guide
Run the “Uninstall BT Broadband Desktop Help” option from the start menu.
1. Follow the onscreen wizard through to completion.
Check the task manager (ctrl alt del -> task manager) and kill any of the following:
BTHelpNotifer.exe
McciTrayApp.exe
McciServiceHost.exe
If you see McciCMService.exe, ‘stop’ this in Services (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services)
Open the Registry (Start -> Run -> Type “Regedit”) and delete the following directories:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Motive
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Motive
Clear the Internet Explorer Cache and Cookies (Within IE -> Internet Options -> Delete…)
Delete any leftover Program Folders from Windows Explorer (Windows Key + E):
Windows XP
C:\Program Files\BT Broadband Desktop Help
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motive
C:\ProgramData\Motive
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Roaming\Motive

  • BPC 7.0 Server Installation Problem - Cannot connect to reporting services

    I am upgrading from 5.1 to 7.0 version for SAP BPC.  Everything went smooth on the development server (single instance installation including SQL Server 2005 developers edition 32bit, web, reporting and application services on the same server). I tried to repeat the same process on the test server, and the installation went off the rails.  I started with clean installations of SQL Server 2005 on both servers.
    When I try to install the BPC server software, I get to the point of access to the report server, and everything stops. I get the following message: Cannot connect to reporting services.  I have verified the reporting server name, and I have verified that the server name is correct in the installation panel. I have also verified that the reporting server is configured, started, and that there are no errors.
    Any advice?

    Hi Sorin,
    Thanks for the tip, but this was not the case.  The problem was solved by re-loading the OS. Using Windows Server 2003 gave an issue during the re-installation of the SQL Server database. The problem was in the installation itself. After a clean install of both the OS and SQL Server, then SAP BPC 7 worked. The installation does require a number of tweaks, particularly, in my case, the entire Management console must be configured, even if not being used.
    This problem is now solved.

  • Installation problem: Cannot connect to TV

    Hi,
    I just got my new AppleTV. Connected it to a Panasonic TV via HDMI and then with the power cable. The problem is that the TV stays black. AppleTV is responsponding to the remote (when I press a button, the light on the AppleTV is blinking).
    I tried to use the "menu and + button for 6 sec" to change the HDMI resolution. No change. TV stays black.
    The remote by the way is fully working since it my MacBook is reacting and it starts FrontRow. Another thing: I have startet "Airport Application" to try to find the AppleTV - does not find it. But I assume this is because AppleTV is not yet configured, hence not connected to any network...
    By the way, the TV hdmi is working (had another source on it), because I had another source on it before and it is fine.
    I switched off already both, TV and AppleTV. Still the same situation...
    Can anyone help me? I have no idea what to check anymore.
    Pls advice!

    Hi,
    thx:)
    You were right! I changed to another cable. Now I have a picture!
    How come, that the cable works with a DVD player and not with AppleTV? Sounds rather strange to me. What do I need to look at to know whether a cable is compatible with AppleTV?
    And now I have the next problem. I cannot connect to my WLAN. By the way - there were no issues at all in connecting my MacBook with the WLAN. I am using WEP security with an HEX password. However, AppleTV let me only choose from the Options "WEP Password", "WEP 40/128-bit Hex", "WEP 40/128-bit ASCII". It works with non of the options. The password is for sure correct (I use it on several devices, also on MacBook). I get error code "-3" when I use the first 2 Options and "-6" when I use the last one and the first one with letters from my password written large. I know that the pwd is case sensitive, and actually I use letters from "a" to "d" in my password. Again, no problem on MacBook.
    And again, I would be glad to get your input! I want to show off my new device with the family today - Easter Photos:)
    Thx folks and br

    I cannot find where to amend the repository location for the AI clients, as a route out to oracle is not available.
    I have updated the default.xml file and the ai_manifest.xml file whre else is this parameter stored?
    It also exists withn the AI iso file does this need to be amended?
    thanks for any help Mick

    Just as previously directed, Enabling Remote HTTP Connection to the Database, should be enough to try to enable remote access from the web console. Home -> Administratrion -> Manage HTTP Access and the radio button to toggle remote access is enough.
    Just access from the 127.0.0.1 ip address, enable it and you'll be ready to access it from outside your box.
    If you are attemping to use the command execution, verify the user are you connected to when issuing the command.
    What's the message or problem that arises when you attempted this first procedure?

  • I cannot connect to the Internet after installation of Windows Vista Ultimate edition.

    I cannot connect to the Internet after installation of Windows Vista Ultimate edition. For some odd reason, it seems my ethernet has not yet been installed to my operating system and I do not know how to do that even with the internet, I have the LAN cable hooked up to my computer but I do not know exactly what to do about it. Is there some sort of driver I need to install, or what? How do I do that without the internet?
     This operating system is on a separate partition to my other operating system that is connected to internet already (Windows Vista Premium) that I do not wish to use anymore because of it's corruption. I tell you this because you may know a way of finding the driver files on my previous operating system that I may be able to transfer to the other.

  • Cannot connect to the Reporting Server errror message during installation

    Hello all.
    I'm trying to install BPC 7 sp5 in a two server environment, but the installation stops with the error message "Cannot connect to XXX"

    Hello all.
    I'm trying to install BPC 7 sp5 in a two server environment, but the installation stops with the error message "Cannot connect to . Please check report server name".
    Environment:
    Appserver: Win2003 R2 32 bit.
    Sql server: Win2008 64 bit, Sql 2008 Server 64 bit.
    Default installation of Report Server was used. So virtual directory is ReportServer. I can successfully connect to Report server from IE (http://ReportServerName/ReportServer). The installation user is a domain user and is member of the Administrators group on both servers. Ports 1433, 2383 and 80 are open.
    So then I wonder if the error comes from the fact that we're using Windows 2008 as OS on sql server. Is it possible to use Win2008 on sql server?
    Kind regards
    Arild Bjørsvik.

  • AIA Installation: "Cannot Connect to Server"

    Hi guys!
    I have a problem with installing the Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g AIA Foundartion Pack (11.1.1.4.0). When I get to step 4 of 12, it just gets stuck. It says that it cannot connect to the server.
    According to my understanding this is caused by the installation process not being able to communicate with the admin server of the specified domain, or the installation not being able to communicate with the node manager, that has to find the managed server.
    My node manager is working fine as I can be able to start the managed server using nmStart('soa_server1') via the wlst shell, or by going to the Weblogic admin console and starting the managed server from there.
    There are a couple of threads about this issue around a couple of forums. I haven't found any concrete solution though. I have tried everything that the forums were suggesting, and nothing works.
    You assistance will be of value.
    Regards,
    O..

  • Cannot connect to the net after installation

    Hi All:
    I tried to install and work with Archlinux today but was not successful at all.
    I downloaded the ISO image of archlinux and burnt it to a CD (Archlinux-i686-2007.05-Duke). I tried to install the distro to my Compaq presario 700AP laptop (AMD Duron/128 MB RAM) Installation went smoothly and then the problems began. I coud not get networking to work. Here are the contents of the /etc/rc.conf file (networking section only given here):
    <--- contents of /etc/rc.conf ------------->
    lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
    eth0="eth0 192.168.1.10 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255"
    INTERFACES=(lo eth0)
    gateway="default gw 192.168.1.1"
    ROUTES=(gateway) ......................."I removed the ! sign to activate the gateway"
    <-------/contents ------>
    <--------- contents of /etc/resolv.conf ------------>
    and in the /etc/resolv.conf, I have
    nameserver 208.67.222.222
    nameserver 208.67.220.220
    search opendns.com
    I typed opendns.com since I have these dns addresses from opendns.
    <-------------
    When I ping my nameserver (208.67.222.222), it puts out several lines of messages like:
    64 bytes from 208.67.222.222: icmp_seq=55 ttl=252 time=284 ms
    Likewise, when I ping default gateway, I get several lines of messages like:
    64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=128 time=1.62 ms
    Yet I cannot ping google (http://www.google.com), and the error message is: "unknown host", nor can I use pacman to update packages from online repositories.
    What am I doing wrong? I have followed the networking guidelines and installation guidelines from the websites.
    Do I reinstall archlinux? I am lost.
    Best wishes,
    /Arin

    Thanks for the advice, but I still am not successful and I cannot figure out why.
    Dear All:
    Thanks for all your responses, but I still cannot connect to the Internet and this is a strange problem.
    I use a broadband connection, provided by India's BSNL broadband service, using an external modem (Huawei Corporation; SmartAx MT882). The internet service has provided me the following information:
    IP Address: 192.168.1.10
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
    DNS servers: 218.248.255.145
    DNS server(2): 61.1.96.71
    In addition, I use opendns and the dns server names are:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Here are the contents of my /etc/rc.conf (networking section):
    HOSTNAME="maurine"
    Io="Io 127.0.0.1"
    eth0="eth0 192.168.1.10 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255"
    INTERFACES=(Io eth0)
    gateway="default gw 192.168.1.1"
    ROUTES=(gateway)
    Contents of my /etc/resolv.conf
    search maurine.com
    nameserver 218.248.255.145
    nameserver 61.1.96.71
    nameserver 208.67.222.222
    nameserver 208.67.220.220
    If I try using pppoe -I eth0, it waits for some time and then returns a message "timeout waiting for PADO packets"
    If I "try /etc/rc.d/adsl start", it returns [FAIL] after some time.
    This has never been a problem with my ubuntu or windows installations before, I could easily connect to the web.
    What should I do to make sure I can connect to the Internet?
    When I ping 192.168.1.1, it takes me to my modem page and from there, when I run the diagnostics, it returns everything ok.
    Where may be the problem and what do I need to do to resolve this problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Arin Basu

  • Itunes installer cannot connect to network %appdata%

  • Phone not working after infinity installation

    I have just moved my phone and broadband from Sky to Bt and the engineer called this morning to complete the installation. I have 2 phone sockets. When I had broadband originally installed it was before the days of filters so it required a BT engineer visit. As my computer was upstairs the engineer 'back wired' the sockets (apologies if I have the terminology wrong) so the adsl faceplate was fitted to the upstairs wired extension. Today, the Openreach engineer was initially puzzled but said he would be able to install the Infinity faceplate on the upstairs extension as originally fitted. He checked the line was ok, checked the broadband connection and put the faceplate back on the 2 sockets. After he left I tried to make a call via the downstairs socket without success and I assumed that the phone line had not yet been changed back to BT. This afternoon I received an email from BT advising that my phone was now active but the downstairs socket will not work. I am able to make and receive calls on the upstairs extension. I have just spent 40 minutes on the phone to BT, explaining the problem to 4 different people. Each BT employee advised that it would cost £130 for an engineer to revisit my house to correct the fault that they had somehow caused! To say I'm frustrated is an understatement. Has anyone any suggestions how I can resolve the problem. All 4 BT employees did not really understand the problem. I would appreciate any help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    You cannot use a phone connection for broadband when on Infinity. The only connection that can be used is that which comes from the home hub 3, which is near the Openreach modem.
    You have to use wireless, run an Ethernet cable, or use Powerline adapters.
    You phone should work if it is plugged into the botton socket of the new Infinity master socket.

  • Cannot connect to Session broker server, but can to other servers in Cluster

    Hi Everyone,
    Hopefully this is the right place to post. Have searched quite a bit through the forums (not all 19000+ pages though), and can't seem to find a similiar issue.
    I have also searched the internet and tried all solutions others with a similiar problem have.
    This is my problem:
    We have two servers running Server 2008 R2, set up as Remote Desktop Servers in a cluster setup.
    The session broker is located on the second server (This is an active server which has sessions load balanced to it). There is also a DNS round robin setup
    Problem: When sessions are allowed to be load balanced on Server2, then the users cannot connect to the cluster. The round robin seems to still send some sessions to the first server, and these seem to connect fine.
    I suspected the issue was with the WMI Respository, and so started. I found a lot of errors, but have been unable to fix them.
    I downlaoded the WMIDiag from Microsoft, and here is the report:

    48960 15:56:44 (1) !! ERROR: Actual trustee 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM' DOES NOT match corresponding expected trustee rights (Actual->Default)
    This seems to be the second biggest error (and there are a few of them):

    I have tried:
    winmgmt /resyncperf
    winmgmt /verifyrepository
    winmgmt /salvagerepository
    winmgmt /resetrepository
    I have also tried registering the mof files with
    MOFCOMP <FileName.mof>
    Lastly, I even disabled the WMI service, renamed the Repository folder, and had it rebuild the repository.
    I got stuck on re registering the 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM' (I think it is in the Components section in Administrative tools), as I could not find clear instructions on exactly how to go about it.
    Chkdsk found no errors
    Sfc /scannow found no errors
    winmgmt /verifyrepository finds no errors.
    I'm hoping someone here might be able to steer me in the right direction to get this resolved, as I do not want to rebuild a server that hosts a connection broker and has over 100 user profiles on it, as well as some very annoying and finniky LOB apps installed,
    which will have to manually be reinstalled for each profile.

    Hi,
    Here is a blog regarding how to fix WMI issue might be useful to you:
    Fixing WMI issues Using Batch Script
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/6887.fixing-wmi-issues-using-batch-script.aspx
    In addition, you mentioned Remote Desktop Servers are in a cluster setup, would you tell us how did you create the cluster?
    As far as I know, with RD Connection Broker, we don’t need to create a cluster but just add multiple RD session hosts into one collection, then RD connection Broker would redirect sessions automatically.
    Best Regards,
    Amy

  • Cannot connect to printer hosted on a Win2012 Server with a Windows 7-64bit client (Error 0x00004005)

    I have a Windows 2012 Server set up offering print services to our network, there are about 20 printers set up all deployed via group policy. Recently, on one of our Windows 7 machines I am finding that I an unable to connect to one of the printers shared
    on the print server while other clients seem to be able to connect to the same printer with no problem. Also, the printer used to work just fine from this same Windows 7 machine.
    To test things further I logged onto the Win7 machine as the domain administrator, connected to the print server and double clicked on the printer to attempt to install it manually (rather than letting Group Policy do it). When I do so I receive the following
    message, "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation failed with error 0x00004005.
    I have done some searching but the only references I am finding to this particular error message involved users attempting to connect to a printer hosted on a 32-bit version of Windows from a 64-bit client. However, in my case both the server and client
    are 64-bit.
    Can any one help me troubleshoot this 0x00004005 error?
    Thank you.

    Sorry for the delay. I just went and attempted to add the printer again on the client machine, the installation failed just as before, no log entries were recorded in the PrintService Admin log and the Operational log was disabled, I enabled it and added
    the printer again. This time when the installation failed seven log entries appeared in the Operational log, all of them informational, no errors or warnings, the events are as follows...
    1. Event 300, Printer {71688D29-F70C-42F2-90E1-DA5D450E772D} was created. No user action is required.
    2. Event 304, Printer {71688D29-F70C-42F2-90E1-DA5D450E772D} was resumed. No user action is required.
    3. Event 306, Settings for printer {71688D29-F70C-42F2-90E1-DA5D450E772D} were changed. No user action is required.
    4. Event 306, Settings for printer {71688D29-F70C-42F2-90E1-DA5D450E772D} were changed. No user action is required.
    5. Event 302, Printer {71688D29-F70C-42F2-90E1-DA5D450E772D} will be deleted. No user action is required.
    6. Event 302, Printer {71688D29-F70C-42F2-90E1-DA5D450E772D},8 will be deleted. No user action is required.
    7. Event 301, Printer {71688D29-F70C-42F2-90E1-DA5D450E772D} was deleted, and users will no longer be able to print to this printer. No user action is required.
    There are a couple log entries in the Admin log indicating an error occurred, those errors occurred yesterday afternoon at 4:30pm or so. I did not try to add the printer then so I don't know if these are related to this particular problem or not. This same
    entry appeared twice at exactly the same time...
    The print spooler failed to load a plug-in module C:\Windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\PrintConfig.dll, error code 0xc1. See the event user data for context information.
    As a temporary workaround I installed the drivers for that printer directly on the Windows 7 client machine and that works fine, however this is less than ideal because I had set up group policy to only install that printer for specific users, not for everyone.
