BT Infinity - Interleaving OFF

Hi All,
I've been a happy BT customer for about 3 years now. During that time I have enjoyed the full advertised boardband speed and a latency of 7ms to UK servers. Fortunitely I can see my cab which is about 50m from my house.
It's worth noting that I have fully unlocked my modem and am running an Asus NT-RT N66U.
Recently I've noticed that my pings have doubled to around 15ms presumaly because interleaving has been turned on at some point. I read a few posts where customers have requested for fastpath to be switched on (something I was able to do when I was with bethere) but apparently this can only be done via BT Wholesale. These posts were pretty old so I wanted to check if the policy at BT had changed in recent times as I really want my low pings back!

  • BT Infinity - Interleaving OFF request

I am a BT Infinity customer for almost 6 weeks now and I am
disappointed to say that it has been a nightmare contacting Tech
Support due to their lack of respect and ignorance in wanting to help
    me with my issues.
The first week or so after switching over from Be* my gaming pings
were on par as Be*'s and was really impressed. However a week on and
it almost tripled. After contacting tech support numerous times they
have no idea what Interleaving is and I believe this has been turned
on due to the ping increase. There is even an FAQ on the BT website
regarding this and if I want it turned off I can contact BT Tech
    Support.
I would appreciate it very much if someone were to look into this and not
give false promises like BT Tech support have done, and after numerous
calls to get nothing but no respect from the staff.
So to conclude, I'd like Interleaving mode to be permanently turned off on my line.
I know I will lose some speed but I'd rather have the lower pings.
    Thanks

    Hi all,
I am having problems online gaming at the moment with the usual suspects MW3 and Battlefield 3 and they are both getting so laggy its like playing in treacle. Have rang BT and was told its because Interleaving was off so they requested to turn it on and would take 24 to 48 hours, after numerous phonecalls to Mumbai or wherever over the last week no-one seems to know what I am talking about and be able to tell me it is on.  Now last Sunday I was put through to BT tech who have now told me that Interleaving was on since day one and I now have to request to turn it off and it would take 5 working days, rang Mumbai again and was told they would raise my request and it would take 24-48 hours!! wtf!!!
PLEASE HELP after reading this thread I am even more confused now, this is really stressing me as I feel like I am spinning around in circles, I have tested the games on different ISP's and on much lower bandwidth and Is at an acceptable level of enjoyment plus its very competitive so its not the game, at home a K/D ratio of 0 and 15 is not fun.  Have run tests and my Ping is at 34ms on BT Infinity!
    Confused and Angry!!

  • Interleaving off request

Hi, I had my Interleaving locked and set to fast but since having my SNR reset it has also reset my interleaving/latency back to interleaved instead of fast. Can a mod please contact me so I can have interleaving off and locked back to fast.

  • BT Infinity install off to a less than stellar sta...

    BT Infinity ordered Nov 1st
Installation date today 14th Nov (appt time 8am - 1pm)
Openreach engineer arrives approx 10am, sucessfully re-provisions existing disconnected line.
However, he has not been assigned the whole job and says another engineer will attend later today to complete the work.  Which is fair as I assume tasks are broken down depending on a mixture of workload, skill sets etc.  Plus it pretty much implies the same in the body of the order email.
Unfortunately it appears the second part has fallen through the cracks as I'm pretty sure I won't be getting a knock at the door during what's left of today.
I'm currently working my way through the BT telephone tree attempting to find an understading soul to help me establish what went wrong.
Would be grateful if someone can advise whether there's a more direct route and/or Dept. I can contact to progress and escalate.  I'd complete the install myself, but I assume the engineer carries the modem portion of the equipment as I only have the BT HH3 (+ cables) sitting here at the ready.
    Many thanks,
    Rich

Unfortunately your situation is not unusual when a phone line and Infinity installation is ordered.
See this thread where there were mention of similar problems and then someone else had 4 engineers complete the job sucessfully????
As you don't have any clue on when someone is going to now install Infinity, I would contact a BT forum Mod.
The contact form can be obtained by clicking on their names.
Here is one to use http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
Btw the Openreach engineer installing Infinity brings a white Openreach Modem with him.
I recommend asking him to fix it on a wall. Being vertical it's cooling vents work properly.
There is a new Modem out now that may not be as sensitive to heat... but I'd still ask for a wall mount just in case.

the mods will post a contact us link and change your latency to fast - it won't be permanent should the DLM see your line having problems it will be re-introduced  however you appear to have a good stable connection so you stay on fast as long as connection is good and stable
After completing the email NOT PM then you join a queue of other customers waiting for mod help. The mods will get back to you in 3/5 working days either by phone or email

  • The Great Infinity Rip Off

Got fed up with BT throttling P2P of an evening so thought I would bite the bullet and go to super fast. Called upgrade number and was refferd options team. They assured me BT do not traffic shape... yeh sure. Mentioned the Glasnost test and he'd never heard of it!! Anyway sorted me a slightly better price so decided to go ahead with it until........... come Jan 14, 141 and caller display are to be charged for @ £1.45 pm EACH. Stopped the upgrade and requested MAC.
    No thanks BT.
Going to SKY, who throttle traffic.... according to cust options guy, not by my tests at a m8's house last night when BT gave me 4k p2p traffic and sky was @ 2.2mbp. Every night @ 4pm down goes the speed and at midnight, starts to go back up. Very strange if no shaping is going on!!
Wanted to stay but saving £14 pmth, first 6 month saving £24 pmth and £80 cash back from Quidco...... no brainer.
I don't watch "FREE" Football so I am not going to pay for it with hyped prices for 141 and callerID.
    regards

Can anyone tell me why i cant get Netflix, and why the price to rent a movie is actually £4.50 when it states £2.99 - £3.99 on the Apple web site? Also unless you have a massive broadband it takes forever to buffer a movie to down load.
Netflix is only available in US and Canada. Netflix is not mentioned on the UK pages for appletv.
the prices state "start from £3.49 (HD) and £2.49 (SD)", key words being "start from".
the speed of your broadband is not apple's fault.

  • Turning off Interleaving

    Hi
I contacted BT over live chat last week to turn off Interleaving and was told that it would be done within 5 days but it has not happened. I am hoping the mods can help me with this. The connection has been solid since I fitted the i-plate, now I want to try it with Interleaving off for a lower ping (for gaming). Here are the line stats etc:
    Line state: Connected
    Connection time: 6 days, 20:52:06
    Downstream: 7.938 Mbps
    Upstream: 448 Kbps

    Type: PPPoA
    Modulation: G.992.1 Annex A
    Latency type: Interleaved

  • Interleaving Turned Off

    Hello there,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with turning interleaving off, I play online games a lot and my latency recently has been terrible and I think this has a good shot at fixing it. I appreciate turning interleaving off could have a negative effect on the performance of my broadband but i'd like to at least try it!
    Thanks a lot,
    Phil
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

How many FEC errors are you getting an hour?
If its a few thousand per hour, then you should be fine to have interleaving off.
If its hundreds of thousands, then you may get stability issues
The India call centre have no problem understanding the request to turn interleaving off. Unfortunately due to some confusion (due to home hub problems) they just enabled mine, but a quick call to the help centre and a request has gone through to switch it off...should be done within 24 hours.

    Hi Ged
    • Upgrade your computer to ‘N’ standard wireless hardware. If needed, buy a suitable N wireless adaptor from BT atwww.bt.com/nwireless
    • Keep your computer streamlined eg. by running our ‘PC Healthcheck’ app (part of BT’s Desktop Help software atwww.bt.com/desktophelp)
    • Reserve wireless for mobile devices, use Ethernet for main computer
    • Consider powerline adaptors for longer ranges

How soon after an exchange goes live with Infinity will BT allow other providers to sell Fibre To The Cabinet services from that exchange? My existing ISP is waiting to announce pricing details to me so I can make an informed choice. Thanks

Are we able to get fastpath on BT infinity,or will this ever be available ?
    7:12
    Martin S.:
i Neil. When Openreach enables an exchange for fibre, all internet service providers are able to use that service equally - so other ISPs should be able to offer their fibre products at the same time as BT Retail's Infinity product
    7:12
    KerryG:
Thanks for all the great questions coming through guys... answers being typed as we speak!

Hi Paul, We don't support Fastpath on BT infinity at the moment, I'm afraid.

    Comment From Helen
I've recently upgraded to Infinity 2. The ethernet connection is fine, but the wifi is constantly dropping. I have an old Homehub 2 , which we had for total broadband, will it work, so I can test the wifi.

    Hi all
    7:15
    Martin S.:
Neil - also its worth remembering that when an exchange is enabled for fibre, this does not automatically mean that all cabinets and lines connected to that exchange are also enabled, which might explain if your exchange has been enabled but your line is not appearing as eligible yet
    7:16
    Comment From Kevin
Whats the upgrade path from fttc to fttp does it mean a new contract or can we just expect it to migrate?
    7:17
    KerryG
Out of interest...are those on the chat existing Infinity customers or people thinking about it?
    7:18
    Charles
Hi Helen, your wireless should work ok on your Hub 2, though our more recent Hub 3 is better. If you're expereincing drop outs, it's usually a sign of radio interference. Have you any powerline adaptors you could use instead?
    7:18
    Comment From Neil Potter
Thanks Martin - Workmen recently dug up the path outside my driveway to install FTTC so I know it's there  My exchange goes live on 30th June - I can't wait!I have another question: I'm in the process of consolidating my TV, Telephone and Broadband into one bundle. The "BT Vision Unlimited" looks ideal.
    7:19
    Comment From Paul
Is there a estimated date that fast path will be available ?
    7:19
    Martin S.
Hi Kevin - Due to the structure of how fibre has been deployed, your line will either be FTTC or FTTP; there is no way to change your technology type. If you mean 'how do you move to the faster 80mb product (on FTTC)?', this can be done using the links on BT.com

Why are you fitting 2 separate items a modem and a wireless router? cant we have a combined unit, without the need for 2 adaptors and sockets its not the tidiest install
    7:21
    Comment From Chris
Regarding the Infinity installation, is it mandatory for the BT O/R Engineerer to have access to your PC?
    7:22
    Martin S.
Hi Chris - It is not mandatory, but we recommend allowing the engineer to show you on your own equipment your fantastic new speeds!

    Comment From Simon
hi, im trying to setup port forwarding to my old draytek, as it has more powerful wirelelss capabaility then the bt homehub, is it possible
    7:23
    KerryG
Hi Simon - that sounds like a great question for the forum boards, the Draytek is not a BT product so we can go into detail here in this chat, but there will be lots of people who i'm sure can help in the forum.
    7:24
    Charles
Evening Kevin, for BT Infinity is based on thecurrent FTTC product offered by BT Openreach, which comprises the VDSL modem provided by Openreach and the Home Hub 3 provided by Retail. If/when Openreach move to supporting a single box solution, then we would look to moving to that. Openreach will shortly be trialling this.
    7:24
    Comment From Helen
I've already checked there's nothing interfering with the Hub.
    7:24
    Comment From Helen
I don't have a Hub3, both the one that is currently connected, and the old one I have in the box are Hub 2.
    7:25
    Comment From Chris
Yes, going from 3mb to an estimated 50mb+ is quite the upgrade, I would even be happy if it was merely a 10MB upgrade. - If I remember correctly FTTC is around(if not the same) price as standard broadband these days.
    7:26
    Charles
Helen - could you post your issue in the Bt Infinity forum and one of our mods will look into this for you.
    7:26
    Comment From Kevin
My install is planned for the 28th May my question is i have my master socket downstairs directly below the room i want my fttc modem installed is it possible to have the modem upstairs with the extension cable ?
    7:27
    Comment From Mike B
I have an istalation question. I understand that the modem for Infinity needs to be sited close to the BT phone socket. Am I right in thinking that the modem is then connected via a Cat 5/6 cable to the wireless router situated elsewhere in the house? Does this impact on the speed?
    7:27
    Comment From Helen
    Ok charles, I will do..
    7:28
    Comment From Neil Potter
On the subject of Powerline Adaptors (PA's) - I have a unique setup here at home whereby I would need to utilise 4 x PA's. Are there any known performance issues sharing data, experiencing latency or dropped packets from Desktop PC's all connected via PA's at the same time?
    7:28
    Martin S.
Kevin / Mike B: The engineer can use an extension cable up to 30m long to help position your equipment where you want it - this should not affect your speed.
    7:29
    Comment From Eric Simpson
I have bt broadband .. I am currently getting 3M download. I have two "estimates" from the BT site. One says I should get between 10-17 ... the other which does some sort of check/diagnostic (and appears to be the real thing) says I should get between 1-4. We are meant to get Infinity next month. How would that impact me?
    7:31
    Charles
Hi neil - good question. I've found from experience that powerline performance is very much dependent on the adaptor manufacturer and your home environment, specifically how 'clean' your electrical spectrun is. All I can say is give it a try. That said, i would always recommend an Ethernet connection for the fastest and most stable speeds.
    7:31
    Martin S.
Hi Eric. You can find your predicted BT Infinity speed (if it is available on your line) at bt.com/infinity and entering your number into the availability checker
    7:31
    Comment From Simon
hi, really I'm just asking a tech question - can the bt home hub port forward?
    7:32
    Comment From Eric Simpson
Does my question pop up only when it comes up the queue?
    7:33
    KerryG
Hi Eric - Yes, they will flow in as they get answered - it helps to make the chat easier to read as the Q & As flow in a reasonable order.
Great questions coming through... lots more to get through...been a quick 33 mins!
    7:33
    Charles
Hi simon - I'm assuming you're talking about the Hub 3 (our latest Hub). Yes, it does support port forwarding. You can set this up via the configuration menu in your Hub. See instructions in your Hub user guide for how to do this.

    Comment From guilbo
Hello folks. I have a question. We often see on the Vision forum that users start having problems with their service on Infinity that they weren't having with ADSL. Do you know of anything that would cause this?
    7:35
    Martin S.
Hi Glynn, we are currently reviewing Fibre on Demand and have not yet announced any pricing or availability details.

    7:38
    Charles
HI guilbo - I'm not aware of any technical issues for Vision customer regrading to Infinity. We have hundreds of orders go through each week. If the problem persists, I would suggest customers contact the Infinity helpdesk.
    7:38
    Comment From Neil Potter
Thanks for your reply Charles - If I could ask, the PA's you supply with the current BT Vision boxes are manufactured by Simpler Networks - would I need to purchase identical PA's from the same manufacturer for extending my network? Will BT Retail sell me these as an additional extra? This will be my last question - I feel I have been fortunate to have two answered already
    7:39
    Martin S.
Hi Chris - The speeds estimated in the checker are a very good indication of actual speeds, but we can only know the exact speed once installed.
    7:39
    Comment From Eric Simpson
it says not available yet. I am just frustrated because I get faster speed from my little Android phone using it as a hotspot. If there is a bottleneck somewhere in the system, would fibre really make a difference
    7:41
    Comment From Kevin
I have been given the estimate of 59.4Mb download 20.0Mb upload will this be accurate?
    7:42
    Charles
Hi neil - yes you should always stick to the same model for all your PA's. I am pretty sure that additional Vision PA's can be bought from the BT Shop, and these should be fine. I have had 70mbps out of mine! seewww.bt.com/shop
    7:43
    Martin S.
Eric - Generally fibre can make a very significant difference to overall speeds, though individual increases can't be guaranteed. If / when it becomes available on your line, the checker will tell you how much of a difference it could make to you.
    7:43
    Comment From Chris
I'm assuming it's based on the length of copper from my house to the Green Cab. - The exchange is 2miles~ away from me and the said Cab. Will this also effect my speed?
    7:45
    Charles
Hi Kevin - our estinmates are as accurate as we can make them, but your actual speed will depend on your underlying phone line speed. We will only know your true speed once Infinity is live - it will then train to your optimal line speed, which should be approx as shown by your prediction.
    7:45
    KerryG
Glad to see you all keeping Charles and Martin busy here... keep the questions coming in, we're in the last 15 mins now...
    7:45
    Martin S.
Chris - Yes, your speed is primarily affected by the total amount of copper between you and the exchange. With FTTC fibre products, the old copper between the exchange and the cabinet is replaced by fibre, meaning less copper overall and faster speeds.

The Cab is 500-600 metres away from me, and according this graph the the BT estimated speed is just right on that.
    7:47
    Charles
Hi Lewis - DLM will apply interleaving only if it detects an ustable line. It will not apply interleaving unless it is warranted.
    7:47
    Comment From Kevin
I guess when i get my infinity installed a lot of sites and links will still be on dsl or adsl+ or even slower and the speed my end wont improve the speed there end ie my speed will depend on the site i visit and there upload speed for my download speed?
    7:48
    Comment From Dom
I am moving to BT infinity, but I had to order my line and then wait for it to be activated before ordering infinity. Is this a technical issue or a process at BT issue?
    7:49
    Charles
Evening Dom. It's a process issue - we can only provide Infinity once a Retail line is up and running.
    7:49
    Comment From William Sinclair
Hi guys. I've upgraded to Infinity 2 with an estimated max download of 49.5 Mbps however my IP profile hasn't budged from the Infinity 1 value of ~30. Any thoughts?

Hi Kevin - yes, some websites that you visit may not be able to keep up with your superfast speeds! We aim to give you the best speeds at your end, but sadly there may sometimes be bottlenecks in the wider internet.
    7:51
    Charles
HI William - sorry for the delay in responding. Best thing to do is to reboot your Hub, then it should pick up the new speed. If not, contact the Infinity forum.

Apologies in advance for my ignorance. If Infinity is installed does the 'phone continue to use copper all the way to the exchange or does this also go over fibre?
    7:54
    Charles
Hi lewis - the most common cause is interference on your phone line, in which case DLM will moderate your BB speed until the line stablises. There'smore lot of info on this at the Infinity FAQs on BT.com
    7:54
    Martin S.
Hi Guilbo - good question - yes, the phone still uses the copper.

  • Too close to the exchange to get Infinity???

    Hi,
I wonder if anyone can verfiy te following please?.
I live on the outskirts of Reading and have been told by a neighbour, who managed to speak to someone at BT, that in our road we are never likley to be able to get BT Infinity the reason being as follows:
We are close to the Spencers Wood exchange and the lines to our road come directly from the exchange and not from a road side cabinet. In order to get Infinity the line must come from the cabinet and not the exchange.  Therefore although the exchange has been upgraded to be able to provide Infinity it is only possible to get this if you are supplied from a cabinet.  So, a number of houses round about us can get it, but we are unlikley to ever get it.
Is anyone able to verify the accuracy of this please, and are there any other options available?
    Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    BT Infinity runs off two kinds of VDSL types;
FTTC - Fibre to the Cabinet. This is where there is a fibre line from the Exchange to the street cabinet then normal copper from there to the house/business.
FTTP - Fibre to the Premises. This is where you have a fibre line all the way from the Exchange to the house/premises and doesn't route through a FTTC, aka RDSLAM.
If your line is an EOL (Exchange Only Line) then you will have to wait for a FTTP Service to become available in your area.

I'm not knowledgable enough to know whether or not that's a high noise margin, though I live only 0.4 miles away from the exchange, so I would hope that interleaving off would be managable on my line / something could be done.
I believe interleaving had been off succesfully for a period of time, but will have presumably been triggered back on an occasion when my router had been manually powered on/off numerous times, appearing as drop-outs.
Would appreciate assistance with this - Thanks.

  • Interleaving / fastpath

    Hello there,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with turning interleaving off, I play online games a lot and my latency recently has been terrible and I think this has a good shot at fixing it. I appreciate turning interleaving off could have a negative effect on the performance of my broadband but i'd like to at least try it!
    Thanks a lot,
    jay

  • What are you ping speeds?

I am a bigger gamer and as such need connections with the lowest possible ping speed. I am considering changing from my regular broaband where I getting a 5.7MB down / 0.9MB up connection with 12ms on fastpath and 24ms with interleaved. (Getting BT to keep interleaving off is a pain in the ass)
Using pingtest.net could you all let me know what kind of ping speeds your getting?
FYI when it comes to gaming my current upload / download speeds are more than adiquate, so not concerned with these speeds. I am hoping to get an idea  of if the ping speeds are worth me forking out some extra cash each month

    Hi
As requested this is what I get from Infinity option 2
Here is a test from much further away
And at 10 thousand miles plus, do not think I will trying playing an online game there

  • Could someone look at my line, please?

    Hi there,
I have BT Infinity option 1.  dslchecker.bt.com shows that I should get 38 down and 9 up minimum.  For a few weeks after BT Infinity was installed, I was getting around 38 down and 7 up with interleaving off.
Ever since the service was installed, I have experienced the reboot issue with the HH5 with the event log suddenly reporting "PPP LCP Send Termination Request [User request]".  I originally had a fault open about this reboot issue.
After reading this forum, I tried to solve the reboot issue myself by attaching an Openreach modem (ECI) to the HH5 and connecting the line to the modem.  That solved the disconnection issue and the Openreach modem seemed rock solid.  Speeds were still the same, 37 down and 7 up with no issues at all.
The original fault was still open with BT though but on 20th April, the fault status changed to closed and that's when all the performance issues began.  Prior to the 20th, the only issue had been the HH5 rebooting, something I had solved by using the ECI modem.  However, since the 20th, there are no more reboots with the ECI modem but the performance is dreadful and interleaving has been turned on.
Last night, BT speedtest reported 16mb down and 5mb up.  Tonight, BT speedtest is reporting 10mb down and 5mb up with 38ms ping.  Pings are dropping intermittently when the speed is low too (a couple of time outs per minute).
Today, I replaced the ECI modem and HH5 with a Technicolor TG589 (it's a router with an integrated VDSL2 modem, Plusnet were trialling these for self-install).  The connection itself has stayed up (it always does when I don't use the HH5 on it's own) but the performance is still dreadful.
The thing is, before the 20th when BT closed the fault call, everything was fine and the only problem was the HH5 rebooting for no apparent reason.  I had decent speeds and a decent ping.  Since the 20th, interleaving has been turned on and the stats have plummeted.
I was wondering if this was simple congestion.  I just did another dslchecker speed test and the download was 23 and upload 5 with a ping of 24 so it has improved a bit since starting this post.  When the speed goes down, the pings time out once or twice a minute too.
I did a BT further diagnostics check about 10 minutes ago and it says there are no problems.  My IP profile is 38.69 down and 10mb up with actual speeds of 23.8mb down and 5.09mb up.
I did another check just before posting this mail and speeds had risen to 29 down and 5 up with a ping of 33ms.
Like I said, the performance issues started when BT closed the fault call on the 20th (prior to that, everything was fine as long as I didn't use the HH5 on its own).  I have been wary of doing too many reboots though and I don't think that I have crossed the DLM threshold for an IP profile change.  My IP profile seems the same as it always has been (according to dslchecker).
The mods here have a good reputation for fixing things so could someone take a look at this?
    Thanks.
These are the stats currently reported by the Technicolor TG589 (keep in mind the service has improved since I pasted these stats, it was a lot worse when I started this post).

Just to add to this.  As has been my previous experience, the speeds have now gone back to normal once the peak hours are over.
It's just turned midnight and the speeds are now 36.29 / 5.12 (ping 22.25ms) which is fine (it was better before when interleaving was off but still).
This problem does seem to occur during peak periods (evening time up to midnight) which would indicate a capacity issue.
There is a PEW scheduled for 24th that includes my area code (01782), I don't know if that will help.

I hpoe it will help.  It's just that the speeds were fine before the fault was closed by BT on the 20th and interleaving was applied.  Ever since the fault was closed, speeds during the evening have been atrocious (before the fault was closed, it was 37.5mb down, since the fault was closed it goes as low as 5mb down).
There is another thing worth noting here too.  Before the fault was closed on the 20th, the event log on the HH5 would get lots of firewall errors (blocked packets, spoofed packets, etc).  Normally, this would be the firewall doing its job but I have never believed that to be the case for the HH5 since the errors are easily reproducable on demand.  All I had to do was to open a few webpages, refresh the log and sure enough, the firewall errors would be there with IP addresses relating to the websites I had opened.
However, ever since the fault was closed on the 20th, there have been no firewall errors in the event log at all during normal activity.  Not a single one.  I can open a plethora of webpages and not a single firewall event appears in the log.  The only time that firewall errors do appear is when I restart something (router, modem, etc).  The firewall entries appear for a few minutes then, presumably because the packets are getting lost.
A lot of people have reported these firewall log entries and my theory is that these reports of "blocked" and "spoofed" and "illegal" packets are actually lost packets caused by a bad connection/line.  So the HH5 isn't actually being attacked at all, it's just detecting that some packets are unexpected and were blocked (unexpected because of the line quality, not because of an attack).
However, even with the degradation in service and the fact that firewall errors no longer appear in the log, the HH5 still reboots randomly so I have had to swap it for a Thomson TG589 instead.
I read a post somewhere that stated that an Openreach engineer had said that some exchanges weren't compatible with the HH5 (hardware compatibility issue) and will lead to this reboot issue.  I do wonder whether that is the case since I have used an ECI modem from Ebay and a Technicolor TG589 from BroadbandBuyer and neither one reboots at all, the HH5 is the only router that does it.  And the problem does only seem to be affecting some people, not everyone.
But still, the reason for my oringal post is the huge degradation in performance during the evenings (up to the early hours).  I'm only mentioning the HH5 firewall entries and the HH5 rebooting issue because they all seem to relate together as if they are all symptoms of an underlying problem.
