BT Infinity, IP Profile

Hi, I had BT infinity installed a few months ago and it was fine. However we had to cut the power off to the house and now the internet is slower, it would seem im on a slower IP profile than I was before.
Results are as follows :
Download speedachieved during the test was - 43.52 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 12 Mbps-0 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 45.63 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 9.75Mbps
 Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps
My connection before was around 50-52mb, how can I get this sorted ?

DLM will do it automatically as ryant704 says. BUT be patient, it may take a couple of weeks.
It is worth disconnecting/reconnecting your router (NOT modem) each morning during this period; sometimes DLM increases your sync speed, but this does not get reflected in you profile. The speed you get is approximately the slower of the DLM/IP profile speeds. The reconnection will force the IP profile to match the sync.

  • Infinity Banded Profile

I am wanting to know if BT Infinity has banded profiles.  I ask as my downstream line rate has recently dropped since installing a Home Hub 5 and from high 40's down to 35, well 34999 downstream rate according to the modem.  What is odd is if I reset the modem it seems to sync back to 34999, coincidence or is something limiting the line rate.  It looks like interleaving has also enabled as the attainable rate has dropped from 50+ to 45.   I remember before getting infinity with a previous supplier that after a line fault the profile got stuck somehow and a handed profile was applied which somehow limited what it could connect above.
I cannot help but think the line speed drop is as a result of using the home hub 5 but could be wrong, is there any easy way to see if I am on a banded profile, is this something that could be checked somewhere?
    Cheers

I thought this may have been a modem problem so I have put back the BT Modem, so the HH5 is no longer using the inbuilt modem.  The details from the BT modem is showing the same download rate of 34999.

  • Slow Infinity speeds - Profile problems

    Hello All,
I have had the Infinity package since 6/7/2011 with speeds estimated at 34 mb/s. So far the maximum I have received is 10mb/s, and only on one PC for a short time, the average being about 4-5 mb/s.
On Saturday the 23/7/2011 I ran speed tests using http://speedtester.bt.com/, after disconnecting all but one device from the hub and was recieving about 10mbs, which was confirmed by BT over the phone. I was told that there was a problem with my profile and i was recieving the minimum speed and the profile was reset.
So far my service has not improved, ping and speed both fluctuating wildly with the maximum i have observed to be 7mb/s average about 4.
My phone has been getting a ping of 140 and speed around 200kps, before the reset ping was around 40 and speed 1-2 mps.
I know it has not yet been 10 days, but i have been paying for infinity for most of a month but recieving a service that is often inferior to the regular bt broadband and the profile reset does not seem to be working and several posts that i have seen say that it should only take 3-4 days for major improvement.
Should i wait until it has been 10 days or complain again?
    Thanks
    Jamie

Having been contacted by the mods i have found out that the speed at the hub is around 36mb/s but that is not reaching any device not connected directly via ethernet to the hub.
I performed some tests, for 3 of the main devices on my network. The results shown are an average of 3 consecutive test on speedtest.net and  Only the device being tested was connected to the hub at the time of the test.

2 PC's are connected via ethernet over homeplug and are recieving low speeds. Depspite the house being only 2 years old so has new wiring  and the occasional peak in speed showing greater download rates are possible i think i am going to have to abandon them.
The wireless connection desite having all g+ devices are also recieving low speeds, lower than on the previous hub before infinity so i do not think the hubs wireless is suitable either
As BT say that thier responsibility only extends to getting speed to the hub not further my plan is to buy a wireless N router and connect it via direct ethernet to the hub then connect the PC's and laptop to the external router with wireless N adaptors. Any other devices such as phones/ non-N adaptors  would connect wirelessly to the hub.
Does anybody know if this will work and have any recomendations on the routers?
    Thanks

  • BT Infinity - IP Profile has dropped, how do I rai...

    Hi
I month ago I had some issues with my broadband connection, possibly related to the extreme bad weather we have been having. I now find that the IP Profile has dropped to 11.03 Mps (I used to be just under 35).
What process do I need to go through to get the profile re-evaluated/raised? I have re-booted both the white modem and the HomeHub 4.
Download speedachieved during the test was - 10.69 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 8.82 Mbps-11.03 Mbps .

It's been suggested that a re-boot of your modem/hub might kick the Infinity 2 profile into gear so assuming you've not done that it might be worth a try first before contacting BT.

  • Profile speed dropped by 10mb

Hi, I've had BT Infinity for about a month and a half and it has been running flawlessly at 35mb. That was until yesterday when the speed dropped to 25mb. I ran the BT speedtest and noticed the profile speed has been capped to 25mb.
Is this normal? Is this because they are switching more people on to infinity in my area? Do I need to do anything?
It's not the end of the world as for my purposes, it still runs at a good speed. I'm just confused as to why it would suddenly drop and wondering if it is likely to recover to its old speed.
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi and welcome.
" I ran the BT speedtest and noticed the profile speed has been capped to 25mb." This big speed reduction would not be due to "contention" ie lots more people being added to your Infinity cab.
The Dynamic Line Monitoring equipment could improve things... there are some posts mentioning profile gradually increases but I think these are rare.
As your outside the ten day training period.-
Michael (ypt) had a reduced profile and he was able to obtain an improvement by turning off BOTH the modem and router for a few minutes. Upon powering up again this had forced a profile reset/improvement. POST HERE.
Some say there are "best" times of day to do this to get the fastest profile..... might be worth doing a forum search for that info.
Searched and in THIS THREAD Nige wrote " I have found that turning on the modem/ router is best done at midday(or at least between 12 and 2 pm), I seem to get the fastest/largest ip profile at that time".
If your profile doesn't recover you could try requesting a profile reset via the forum mods.... a contact form can be obtained by clicking on their names eg. "Moderation Team Contact: Please fill out this "contact us" form and we'll get back to you as soon as we can!" http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
Example of Dean's help in the solution on this thread http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/Engineer-profile-reset-request/m-p/295069#M15091
If it keeps reducing it may indicate a problem with your Openreach Modem example Post HERE.

  • Profile reset problem.

I had a problem on the 29th May where an engineer found a fault with a pair that that needed to be recrimped.
Since then my profile has dropped from 75/19 to 14/20
Todaty another enginner came, he said there is no fault, I saw his test equipment and that showed the line capable of 75/19
    My profile is now 33/20
I have just spoken to BT, they said they can't reset the profile so another engineer visit is scheduled for Thursday.  Is there anyone from BT here that can help please?

This seem to be reoccurring and the bad thing about it is the call centre can't reset your profile at least that's what they told me and then said it would go to a infinity broadband team that would do that I'm in the process of this as anything can happen but it doesn't look like it's just the 10day settling it looks like it monitors constant and imposes its line limit and their is no way you can tell it to bump it up and have it perfom a test for at least an hour so that BT maintain a stabile line and the customer doesn't have to keep ringing for a rest if anything happends like fuse box trips out or someone disconnects it or you have a powercut. As the customer service told me they can't rest infinity IP profiles. I must say I've learnt a lot about profile which I never knew I wish I didn't have to though people just want the fast broadband promised, and if you don't know about these IP Profiles that are set or constantly changing in some cases an Open Reach engineer will be for ever visiting your property telling you all is ok.

  • What is this telling me about my Infinty 2 service...

    Hi there.
I'm an Infinity 2 customer running a HH5. Until just before Christmas my service was running at D:68.77/U:18.87 which is what I'd expect. However, since about 8 days ago my service seems to have deteriorated. Speedtest.net is showing D:37.6/U:8.69. However, when I run the BT wholesale test I get the following results..
Download speed achieved during the test was - 75.39
    Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds
    is 16 Mbps-77.42 Mbps .
    Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 77.42 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 9.23Mbps
    Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps
This seems to show I've got an infinity 2 profile with infinity 1 speed but these contradictory results leave me at a loss to really know what is going on. Can anyone help?
    Regards.
    Mike

Certainly an Infinity 2 profile, 77.42 down and 20 up.  The up proifile depends only on your package, not the actual speed the line might be able to manage.  Also, your speeds to the BT tests are good, so the problem isn't with between you and th exchange.
Speedtest.net varies a lot depending which server it happens to choose. Try http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html
I always find the first test gives very slow results, but the HTTPx6 test is usually sensible, and the upload test the most reliable I have found.  The BT test upload is often very pessimistic for some reason.

  • Varying speedtest results

I am trying to figure out why out of my three PC's on my home network, the one running XP, also the oldest, gets the fastest and most consistant speedtest results., usually around 25-27mb.  the other two run Vista 32bit and one gets around 9-15mb consistantly whilst the other one (the newest PC) gets completely unstable speedtests.  By unstable I mean the needle hovers on say 5 or 6mb and then shoots up to a ridiculous speed like 169mb and settles on a result of 20 something.  I am also having big trouble streaming video on this machine, constant buffering and thats with standard resolution.
They all run Kaspersky 2012, Firefox lastest version with no script.

Don't worry about the Home Network 100Mbps... That is the Ethernet Port speed you've connected to when wired.
See my wired 100Mbps pic below..... You could see if it changes if you move to the Gig ethernet port.
    I've never tried that port.
If your ethernet ports are playing up... say dropping down to 10Mbps causing streaming issues, investigation is underway see the many pages here.-
     http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Speed-Connection-Issues/HomeHub-3-LAN-speeds-only-10Mb/m-p/390205#M116...
However a simple factory reset might cure http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/Finally-a-fault-Hub3/m-p/359635#M21296
I use AVG for my antivirus protection... Free version of course  And have never had any streaming or test result probs.
I don't know if it would be possible to pause the Kapersky and use AVG then try some streaming just to completely eliminate the possibility Kapersky is interfering with your streaming.
Perhaps someone else might suggest another way ...... Nige maybe?

  • BT Infinity speeds and a low IP profile.

Basically I just recently had Infinity installed. It was all fine when they installed it and for a few hours after they did, I was getting 27mbps on average. But then it all became fishy and my speed dropped considerably down to around 6mbps and it just hasn't increased since. I was getting 6mbps before I upgraded so this is frustrating me, a lot.

    Hi,
Something wrong there never seen a speed range that goes down 12000>7131Kbps. When you carried out this speed test did you put the information into the top box's ??? If you did what did it say .
above is the part I'm on about, it gives a bit more information. You may only have to options tho.
    1. Need to get Eng. out to reset your IP Profile
    2. See if the Mod's can do this for you, Before they couldn't but I think they were going to be able to.

Reply from mod, oh thats easy the files for hd are some huge that sky go can't play them and no app can stream hd due to this and so when they say they are they're really sd streams, if there was any way around this we would have done it now.

  • Infinity 2, IP Profiles and how to find it....

New to the forum and new to Infinity so go easy on me...
Was using Total Broadband until a few days ago.  Using the BT speed tester [ADSL and FTTC option] used to give upload, download speeds plus IP Profile information.  Plently of posts show screen shots of Infinity tests with this same checker, but it errors out for me each time I try to use it now I'm on Infinity.
Trying to work out what the profile is with the new connection but the beta speed tests linked from the Help pages don't give that information.
The new Openreach modem is [unless I hack it] a brick to me...?  There's no way I can get any information out of it I assume...?
Waiting for my 10 days to elapse before I can be sure that the circuit has settled correctly, but right now I'm getting 47Mb down and 16 up which is significantly less than the estimated 66.5 down and 20 up.
I was previously happy with the speed from Total Broadband, partly because I was getting over the estimated figures [after a line fault was fixed] and partly because it was a good overall figure based on my distance from the exchange.  Measured speeds were 15mb down and 1.1mb up, estimated were 12mb down and 1mb up.  Thus what I'm getting now is a bit disappointing really.  Don't get me wrong, it's still significantly more than I had but below the expectation BT set.
The trend from the BT beta speedtest site, and also speedtest.net, shows a gradual drop from the initial speed test results of 54mb to what I now see....

    Actually that is wired.
That was why I was so keen to find out the IP Profile, but for reason's I don't understand the BT Speed checkers seem to keep erroring out on me.  They do the actual up/download tests and then error out before displaying the results.
I found the link to the BT Wholesale speed checker in the forums in one of the posts I read doing some research and amazingly that worked, but only the once.
Now I know that the line appears good I can start checking other things.  Swapping cables, using my son's laptop instead of my desktop etc to try to isolate the issue.  It's always possible that the problem causing the slow download is causing the tests to fail too.....
My desktop is at the end of a long ethernet cable - well within the 100m allowed in the standard - but if that's damaged that could be it.  I can take a shorter cable and his latop and try right next to the homehub to see what changes.  Unhooking and replacing the cable to my desktop will be a nightmare of a job and I didn't want to start down that route if the IP Profile was 53mb and my download was 50mb..!
Looks like I have a fun weekend ahead of me...!

  • Re: BT Infinity 2 IP Profile - Download Speed "Cap...

My BT Infinity 2 IP Profile has been consistently the same for nearly 2 years since I first signed-up for it and became available in my area, i.e. Upload Speed (US) = Up to 20 Mbps  / Download Speed (DS) = Up to 77.47 Mbps.  I was regularly getting US = 14-17 Mbps / DS = 73-75 Mbps.  Upon doing regular speed checks on my line using the BT Wholesale site, about 4 weeks ago, I noticed my IP Profile DS was reduced to/capped at (Up to) 65.74 Mbps.  Since, I have been receiving the same US as before but DS = 62-64 Mbps.
FYI, I have attached two screenshots but I am reluctant to give my phone number openly on here so can you provide a means for me to send it privately please.
I initially contacted BT Broadband Faults a few times, they did the usual bull**bleep** basic checks to make sure it wasn't my equipment and to give it 10 days to see if it was DLM.  I even hooked up a BT HH5 router to ensure any further line testing was done by the BT book.  After several days, it was evident it wasn't DLM despite BT Broadband Faults insistence to give it several more days until around 11.04.15, to which I did.  By this time, it was crystal clear it was not DLM and Broadband Faults were obtuse upon my persistence that I wanted the specific reason as to why my DS had been reduced/capped by 11 Mbps, and tried to palm me off with excuses such as "copper wire degredation". They refused to contact OpenReach or report it to them.
Note, I had a phone line fault in early Feb 2015 which the OpenReach Telephone Engineer changed lines to fix the fault at my local cabinet.  I was their when he did this and showed me that there weren't many Infinity customers locally.  My line speeds remained the same after and all stable.  I can rule out cross-talk.
I have made 3 complaints via the BT portal regarding this issue and all resulting call-backs have originated from India. Not one can categorically tell me the specific reason why I have, in essence, had my DS capped.  Just the usual bull**bleep** guesses by people not technically qualified to make such diagnoses.  All have been obtuse and said that my current DS remains within the terms of my contract, blah, and refuse to give me a reduction in price of my BT bill.  I accept this is correct, but they will NOT tell me the exact reason why my DS has been reduced/capped!!!!
I do not think it is unreasonable to demand to know the specific reason why the product I pay for has been reduced without an honest explanation why.
Please can you look into my case and any feedback would be much appreciated as this frustrating me a lot.

Sounds like you are being affected by the G.INP rollout to Huawei cabs but the modem being incompatible with it.

    Hi.
I moved over to Infinity about 3 weeks ago. Since then, my profile as kept dropping. I was quoted 37 meg on the checker. When the Engineer came, i synced at around 28 meg. It then went upto 33 meg a few days later - but since then, it as kept dropping. I am now Getting speed tests of around 13-14 meg on both the BT diagnostic test and speedtest.net. These are roughly the same speeds i was getting on ADSL2+. My line attenuation was 24 on ADSL2+
    Here are my test results:
