BT Infinity - Master and Extension Sockets

Hi all,
Last night I got talked into signing up for BT inifnity + TV which they are due to install within the next few weeks however, i didnt realise that they have to connect the hub to the master socket which is currently located in my kitchen! My existing hub is connected to an extension socket located in the lounge and this is where I want the new hub to be located. I see that they can provide 30m of wiring but I dont want wiring all over my house! Can they make the existing outlet in the lounge the master socket and make the existing master socket the extension? (without any new wiring!). If they cant do it i will have to cancel.
I have tried to contact BT about installation but cant seem to find a number to call.
Thanks

Thanks for that correction. I can understand that some of the households where instattions are undertekn must be a nightmare to work in.
So, provided there are no safety issues, as a rule the OpenReach engineer will install the HH5 in the location of the customer's choice without them having to pay BT £130 for moving the MS?
To repeat, my experience like that of many other BT customers is that the OpenRreach engineers are very helpful and will move the MS subject to the caveat from Helios.
The customer's main problem may be with the management of the order by BT customer services: my order was never closed, locking me out of My Broadband on the My BT Portal and my phone line account Anytime Calls and International Freedom add-ons were removed from My Phone after being charged x2 for them!  Two weeks  and several calls and chats with customer suppport and this is still the case.
BT Infinity is good though.

  • Extension Socket not working after Openreach Visit...

    Hi folks, first post here.
The master socket in my home is a line box. I have one extension socket wired into it, not plugged. I only use the extension socket as the master socket (which was installed in a previous occupants time) is not conveniently located for my needs. Plugged into the extension socket is a filter for my broadband and telephone, that's it.
This arrangement has been working fine for years now until Tuesday 26th March 2013 when I reported online that I was not getting a dailling tone. Before doing so I established that the problem did not lie in the extension socket by taking off the lower cover of the master socket and plugging my phone in the test socket. The result was the same, no dial tone.
Wednesday morning an openreach engineer called to say that the fault had been outside and was now fixed but he needed to come into to take the call divert off. I had opted for the call divert to my mobile when I reported the fault online. He proceeded to take both the bottom and top cover off the master socket, did something and then put them back together again. He then took my telephone and keyed in a code to take the call divert off and then left saying everything was fine. Later that day I went to make a telephone call and the line was dead, no dialling tone again. So I plugged my phone into the master socket and found that I had a dialling tone there. I rang BT to tell them of my experience and the operative said that because the fault was after the master socket I would liable to a charge of £99 I told told the operative that it was not my fault and that I should not have to pay. I then asked to speak to the engineer and discovered that Openreach were contractors and that it would not be possible as the operative did not have a number for openreach. How absolutely riduculous, can someone advise please? Thanks

sounds like engineer has dislodged one of your extension wires in the master socket.  if you take the bottom half of master off and make sure your 2 extension wires which should be connected to the back of the front plate to terminals 2 & 5.  just make sure they are connected and tightly secured and extension socket should work

  • BT Infinity 2 and Master Socket.

Hello all. We ordered our BT infinity 2 and telephone line and they said the engineer will be coming on the 13th to set things up. After looking through the installation of BT infinity I found out that it has to be connected to a master socket. This is my problem.
My master socket is located right next to my main door and there is an extention socket in my bedroom. Can I have the master socket moved during installation ? Having a bt hub where you keep your shoes looks odd. Will the engineer relocate the master socket or change the extention socket into a a master socket or I shouldn't be expecting anything ?

Reading through some of the posts, a lot of the installation depends on whether you get a decent engineer, luckily I did.
My master socket was in a downstairs room and my study / office is in the room right above it. I explained to the engineer what I wanted / needed. He was a bit hesitant as he said it meant him having to drill through an external wall, No it won't as I already have a hole that talkes an extension from the master to the study, right easy he says he could convert the extension to the master and make the old master socket the extension. Great, cup of tea and a few hob nobs later job done.
If the engineer can not do what mine did he should fit a 30m extension lead to the master socket and you can plug the hoem hub to this, my understanding is that the extension cable is pinned to skirting or wall they will not lay kit under carpet.
    Good luck

  • Moving BT Infinity modem and HH3 router to another...

Typically my master socket is in the dining room and all my IT kit is two floors up.  Was using HH3 as Total Broadband in my loft with ethernet connection out to my Apple Airport Extreme which ran the network - everything hunky dory but I wanted faster speed - hence Inifinty.
BT Engineer had a look at my set up, started talking of bringing in a hoist into my back garden to install new Master Socket and it just seemed easier to install in the dining room and use the HH3 as router and re-configure my network - wrong!  Most devices lose contact with the HH3 on a regular basis, therefore I want to re-look at installing Infinity into the loft and revert the HH3 to a ethernet connection out to my Airport Extreme.  I understand all the engineers do at the master socket is install an Infinity faceplate.  I've tried replacing the loft extension with a split front BT master socket and moveed the Infinity faceplate - result; voice remains but no DSL on the white Open Reach modem.
Are there any suggestions what I need to do?  The original extension had four wires connections (white & blue, blue, orange & white, white & orange) but the BT master socket only has three positions and my original master socket only has two wires connected.
    Thanks, Andy

  • BT Infinity - Home Hub extension cabling

    Hi,
I've been pursuaded by BT to upgrade from my current Option 3 to BT Infinity. However, my current Hub is in an upstairs bedroom while the master socket is in the hall. I want to keep these locations as I have 4 items connected to the Hub by ethernet.  I understand that the BT engineer will fit a new master socket and then run an extension cable (seems to be standard Cat5e) to the bedroom.
However, my wife is adamant that she doesn't want cable clipped to her newly painted skirting. Is it possible to route the cable externally using Cat6? Failing that, can I connect the Infinity Modem/Hub to the existing (voice) extension socket using a snatdard microfilter? This BT page http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13727/c/346 suggest that this is possible, although presumably we'd lose some speed.
I'm inclined to cancel the Infinity order, but when I rang BT they assured me that the engineer would be able to sort something out. Is this likely or am I wasting a day waiting at home?
    Cheers,
    Andy

OK, sounds like it's worth going ahead with the upgrade to Infinity. With luck I can pursuade the engineer to put the new master socket at the end of a voice extension. If not, I'll get him to wire up the new extension from the master socket in the hall to the hub in the bedroom but without nailing the cable to the skirting. I can then replace this with a pair of homeplug adapters.
Also, yes I'd spotted that the new hub has only three Ethernet ports so I'll also have to add a switch - unless I go the homeplug route and get one with extra ports. I'd prefer to keep my four devices connected by ethernet - these are a PC, a NAS acting as a media server, a NAS providing backup storage and a media player running. I don't want to shift any of these to wireless as there are already at least 20 devices registered on the existing hub...
    Thanks,
    Andy

  • BT Infinity - HG612 and second router question

    Hi,
I've got an odd question. I have BT Infinity and have the HG612 VDSL modem. Does anyone know if and how it can be configured to bridge its WAN connection to another router? For work I need site-to-site VPN access, which is performed by this other router. Unfortunately it needs to own the WAN address, so I need to configure the HG612 to bridge the address with it. Has anyone does this? Is the HG612 even capable of doing this?
I can't find any user manuals on it.
    Thanks,
    Simon

  • Please help about data extension socket enquiries

Hi am new on here and I have tried calling BT to ask them this but he could not understand me what I am thinking of doing is running a data extension socket from the master to another room so the hub can go there to connect to a game console
I have a few questions about doing this will it reduce my broadband speed?
Can you run the wire outside?
Any help would be much appreciated

It might drop your speed slightly but probably not so much that you'd notice. If you use exterior grade Ethernet cable you can run it outside.

  • Pay to replace a faulty extension socket?

Our BT extension socket seems is faulty and BT says I have 2 options:
    1. Buy a replacement
    2. Get a BT engineer to fix it for £99
My question is: as it is BT equipment and it was installed by BT, why should I have to pay for it's replacement if it's faulty? I can hardly hear anyone at the other end of the line (including the BT customer service people) - and yet it's my problem? I don't get it.

Ok - thanks for clarifying. It's faulty as the phone line is terribly crackly. I've already spoken to the help desk and they told me to remove the front plate and plug the phone into the test socket and it worked fine. When I put the plate back in the front and plugged the phone and modem back in, the problem resumed. I have booked an engineer for Friday. Thanks for your quick response to my query.
As long as you are aware that you will probaly be charged for the visit?
Openreach would more than likely just disconnect any faulty wiring on the rear of your front plat of your master socket, they would not normally replace anything.
As mentioned do you need the extension sockets?

  • What are Conversions and Extensions

    Hey ,
I want to know what are Conversions and Extensions. Can i get any material where i can get information on these.
    Thanks in advance

The conversion programs were used to take the extract data from the legacy system and re-format for SAP and load the data into SAP.
Conversions are one-time programs used to transfer data from the legacy system into SAP. For example, you can transfer master data like vendors, customers etc.
SAP provides enhancement to BAPIs thru EXTENSION IN AND EXTENSION OUT .these are structure parameters.suppose example: one BAPI released to update the mara table.then u modified the table mara thru append structure.this changes will not be reflected in BAPIs.So thats why in that case we have to use EXTENSION IN AND EXTENSION OUT structures to fill and work.

Further, it sends you top the Analyser which is no longer supported and it sends you to a page for CS6 which refers you back to it at the bottom. THere was no reference to Application Manager in the log file, only Extension, Restart and Font managers.

  • Odd master and subprojects configuration

I've inherited a project that is put together rather oddly. I
have been editing some of the topics here and there as requested,
but was prompted to take a closer look at the overall project
structure when I noticed that, after the master project was
compiled, a large number of topics returned a "page cannot be
displayed" error when I tried to open them (although oddly enough,
I *can* open them in the browse sequence, just not when I click
    directly on the topic page).
I traced it down to a subproject that had been merged into
the master project at two different points. The first point was
just below a "top-level" book in the TOC. The second place was
under a "subbook" beneath a "top-level" book in the master
    project's TOC.
The master project is called "Admin". I went to see which
CHMs were in Admin in the !SSL! only to find that this folder is
completely empty. All of the CHMs are in a folder called !CHMs!
(normally, when you create a project, the CHM file is in
\!SSL!\Microsoft_HTML_Help\). This is an odd configuration but it
seems to work (more or less).
I went to check each of the four subprojects (I can only find
one other subproject that's merged into the master project). Let's
    call the subprojects A, B, C, and D. Subprojects A, C, and D are
structured just the way you'd expect. Each subproject contains a
single CHM fow that subproject in \!SSL!\Microsoft_HTML_Help\ so
for example, subproject A's chm can be found at
    \!SSL!\Microsoft_HTML_Help\A.chm. The same for C and D. B is
    another matter.
Here is the structure of subproject B's directory and
    relevant subdirectories:
    B folder
    !SSL! folder
    InfoSDK folder
    InfoSDK.chm
    Object folder
    Admin.chm
    Object.chm
    Microsoft_HTML_Help
    Admin.chm
    B.chm
As you can see, instead of the !SSL! folder containing just
the Microsoft_HTML_Help folder which contains the subproject's chm
file, there are three folders in !SSL!, each containing one or more
chm files. The really odd thing is that two of those folders
contain the chm file from the master project (Admin.chm) and only
one folder (Microsoft_HTML_Help) contains the chm for the B
    subproject.
I thought perhaps that this subproject had another subproject
nested beneath it but in looking at the TOC, I can't find any
merged project links. The B subproject itself has a large number of
folders that are heavily nested beneath each other, so it's
directory structure is both complicated and extensive.
Before anyone asks me to zip the entire thing up and send it
out, the content is proprietary and confidential and I can't send
it out into the open. I'm hoping someone can tell me based on my
description, what is going on here.
As far as the topics from the merged B subproject that
wouldn't open when I compiled and ran the master project "Admin", I
double-clicked the merged project link for B in the Admin TOC to
open the Merged Project dialog box. I discovered that the HTML Help
File pointed to the B.chm but the TOC file pointed to Admin.hhc.
When I pointed the TOC file to B.hhc and recompiled the master
    project, everything opened fine.
I have a sneaky suspicion though that I may have broken
something in the process and that topics that should be available
in the master when it's compiled are no longer available.
I apologize for the length of this post and the level of
confusion it's probably generating, but this is the only way I can
think to describe the situation short of being able to actually
    show you what's going on.
Any responses and ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

layouts for these projects and generating them all to a single
folder just off the local machine root, say under C:\RH_Admin.
This layout structure not only keeps the structure clean, but
virtually eliminates the possibility of over-long link paths.
Which explains why the chm files for the Admin
master project are in !CHM! rather than !SSL!. Not being a RoboHTML
guru, I assumed that !SSL! was the required directory for all chm
files but as you explain it, they cah be contained in any folder as
long as you select that particular directory as the output folder
containing the required chm file for the project. I will certainly
explore your suggestion in future projects I develop but in terms
of this older set of projects, I'd just as soon leave well enough
alone for the time being. There's a rather large product base that
uses this set of help files and if I broke it, the consequences
    wouldn't be pretty.
I still dont get why my predecessor placed the Admin.chm file
(which is the chm file for the master project) in the directory
structure of a subproject the way I've described. I can't see any
reason for it and am not sure why in creating a merge link, she
referenced the chm of the subproject but pointed the TOC to the
Admin.hhc. As far as I can tell, you don't need to do that in order
to allow the subproject books and topics to be displayed in the
master project's TOC after the merge is complete. Any ideas?
EDIT: Now this is interesting. I just had a look at the
properties of a merge project link I created and while I can select
the particular chm file in the HTML Help File drop down menu, the
TOC File selection is fixed foe the same project's .hhc file. I
wonder if the reason for including the admin.chm file in the !SSL!
folder of subproject B with the B.chm file was to allow my
predecessor to be able to select between the Admin.hhc and B.hhc
files for the TOC File. If you choose one project's chm file for
the HTML Help File and another project's hhc file for the TOC file,
what happens (given that in my experience, it makes all of the
subproject's topics unable to be opened when merged and compiled
    with the master project)?

  • BT Infinity, Netgear6300 and Sonos

I have just swapped a BT HH3 router for a Netgear R6300.  All PC's, tablet computers, phones connect fine to the new router with super fast connectivity on the 5G network. However when I hardwire in my Sonos system, everthing goes awry.
There is a Play 5 is connected to router, and NAS to the Play 5.  2 further Sonos amps connected wirelessly to the Play 5.   I can no longer access internet radio, plus the various PCs and Ipads around the house start to lose their wireless connections (which go to "Limited Connectivity".  If I unplug the Play 5 from the Netgear router the rest of the wireless network works fine, replug it in, network to the PC's.  Also, when the system is connected up to the Netgear router I can no longer see the NAS from any PC's - reappears if I go back to HH3.
I've cycled the power on all the Sonos units/PCs etc between each router changer over.
The Netgenie app indicates that all the PC's connect fine to the router, it's more that the onward connection to the Openreach modem falls over when the Sonos is connected ?
    Any ideas please ?

The 330/20 product was withdrawn by Openreach last month.
BT still advertise a 300/20 product (http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/broadband/packages?fttp=yes) so is either a mistake or capped upload.
My neighbour is on Infinity 4 and looking at his speed tests, it looks a capped upload to me.

In this log file I can see you are getting Error : U44M1P7 while updating the software
This Error comes where language packs for software are not installed properly on the machine.
I would suggest to update Adobe Application manager from
    Windows : http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4773
    MAC: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4774
then try to install the update if still you are not able to update software and getting same error then uninstall all the Adobe software selecting remove prefernces.
After uninstalling the software run the Adobe Cleaner tool(http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html) and remove the leftovers.
