BT Infinity - no cost upgrade - or is it?

I saw with great interest the announcement from BT recently that if you signed up to a Calls+Broadband Package, you could upgrade to BT Infinity at no extra monthly cost when Infinity became available in your area.  As that's Jan 11 in my case, worth a go, I thougt.
I duly placed an order with BT, having had a discussion with the Online Chat team.  The next day, I had a mail from Customers Services telling me that as I had voice with another CP and BB with BT, the order was "a bit too complicated" for them to deal with.  Could I ring the Orders line?
I did so, to be told that "No; any upgrade to Infinity would require you to pay the additional monthly charge".  I've left the order stand as I think that I can have the further discussion once I have both call + BB from BT.
I am a bit confused thoug; was it a genuine offer or not?  Has anyone taken advantage of the "offer" and had it confirmed?
Thanks

Hi MJK,
I sent you another email about this today - once your line order closes I'll be able to get you onto that deal, so what when Infinity becomes available you'll be able to change to it and keep it at the same price.
Thanks,
Stephanie

  • Varying Infinity monthly costs

I responded to an advert on a web site asking BT to let me know when Infinity would be in my area a long time ago, 2 days ago I had a polite man from BT sales telling me that there was good news now that infinity was now in my area, and can I sign you up as you expressed an interest in it? I said that I needed to know a few things before I even consider BT... I fired lots of questions at him about speeds, monitoring, throttling, he said that none of these 'issues' that I have with BT exist! After reading these forums cleary they all happen.
I checked the costs on the web site in case I did decide to take the plunge with infinty, and the sales guy called me again yesterday, I told him I am already with BT with my home phone and I have free evening and weekend calls, so I am guessing that an unlimited infinity package would cost me just over £26? He told me NO... its about £40, I told him I would think about it.
I can't find any reference to an infinity package thats £40 on its own?
It quotes £28 in one part, then £26 + in another
I have had 11 missed calls from the sales guy today on my mobile and when I got home 6 missed calls on the home phone...persistant or what?
Sorry for the rant, ... I am with BeBroadband with a good d/l speed of 16-17mpbs and 1.1 up the speed is constant any time of day, no limits, no problems, its infinitys speed that I was interested in...
    Any thoughts or comments?

  • Bt Infinity 2 Supposed Upgrade

    Hi All
I'm new here so please be gentle.
I have upgraded to Infinity 2, Now this went live 2 days ago. I was already on infinity and pretty happy with my 25-26 mb down and my 8mb up but after inquiring it was roughly the same price for infinity 2.
So day 2 in, my speed on the down is slower by a couple of mb?!?!? and my up is about 15mb so thats quicker.
I never expecteded to get upto 76mb but having the same down as i had beofre just dosen't seem right.
Any thoughts suggestions (i'm still in my 10 day settle period?!?!)
    Regard
    Smartstots

What was your estimation when you checked the BT Wholesale availability checker?
If you weren't already getting in the region of 37meg it's unlikely that the 80/20 regrade would make any difference in your download speed.

  • BT Infinity installation cost

I live in a three storey flat (2nd Floor) where the main BT installation is on the ground floor I am advised that I can receive Infinity  What, if any, is the likely cost of getting infinity into my flat, and how do I get BT to agree this before placing an order John P

    Go to Solution.

The installation will be straight forward as the existing master socket will be used (assuming you have a landline connected) - the thing to watch out for is that you need 2 power sockets one each for Modem and Router which may be a pain if the master is in a bedroom (like mine) -it can be moved by the engineer doing the installation at no cost.
Any costs will be as per the pricing on the website.

  • IPhone 3g Costs / Upgrade options

Hoping someone here can share their experiences related to my questions:
I'm a long time AT&T customer. I was eligible for a phone upgrade last month. My wife is eligible March 28, 09. We'd both like iPhones.
Currently, only I have a data plan. We have a Family Plan of 450 shared minutes, unlimited data for my phone (20.00), and 1500 texts for my phone (like, 10 or 15 dollars). We also have a 15% employer discount. Our bill comes to around $95/month.
Question 1: If I switch to 2 iPhones with the data plan and 1500 texts, what can I expect the phone bill to be? (after taxes and fees)
Question 2: Do I have to wait to upgrade us both, til March 28? Is there any provision that will let us get the subsidized price for both phones sooner?
    Thanks,
    Mike

You can upgrade your phone now, and your wife's phone when she becomes eligible. As far as your bill is concerned, the only difference should be the $10 increase in the data plan cost when you upgrade. The iPhone 3G data plan is $30/month, and the text plan is the same ($15 for 1500 texts). So you should see an increase in the bill of ~$8.50 (plus applicable taxes, etc.) when you upgrade your phone.
When you upgrade your wife's phone, I'd recommend dropping your text plan and going with Family Messaging Unlimited. It's $30, and gives you unlimited messaging on both phones, so you get more messages for the cost of your 2 messaging plans. Your wife's line on your account will go up $30/month (minus discount, if both lines get the discount), so your overall increase with 2 iPhones should be in the neighborhood of $35-$40/month.

  • Bt Infinity running costs of modem, hub, powerline

I am new to Bt internet and Infinity and have kept all my boxes switched on as requested and wonder what the recommended action to take going forward with regard to the running costs and eco advice if I leave them all on?
I have a hub3 and modem and two powerline PL3001a to connect my BT Humax box.

My neighbour turns his modem, router & PC on only when he uses them and seems to get 70Mb download, 18Mb upload each time he connects. Been doing this for about 2 years now with no issues.
So not necessary to leave connected 24/7.
It depends on the individual line, some lines can cope with the modem and hub been turned off, while others drop there speed.

  • BT Infinity free speed upgrade?

    Hi,
So in late 2011/ 2012 when Infinity gets boosted to 80Mbps, any news on whether current customers, Option 1 or 2, will be getting the upgrade to the faster speeds for free?
Any ideas when BT might announce this?
    Cheers.

It's definitely happening the question is will there be an extra charge for the speed increase.
Or will BT treat it like the ADSL to ADSL2+ exchange upgrades where people benefited from faster speeds for no increase in charges and not even having to start a new contract...

Do you know the old saying !!!!!
    Hi Toekneem
Well I reckon Bt may have shot themselves in the foot..... If they are thinking of charging????
The reason I say that is because people in these "hard times" may feel happy on their 37Mbps and not fork out extra.
I have a dicky wireless n USB adapter where most times on turn on it only works at wireless g speeds around 21mbps and I often forget to switch it up to the n speed of 37Mbps.
Now you would think I'd notice this drop in speed but to be honest most times I don't.
So I wonder if I would really notice around 74mbps?
Now don't get me wrong if it was offered to me for say starting 18month contract again then I would probably take it just to impress my friend who are currently plodding along on 3Mbps with O2 and 4Mbps with TT.
It would really serve me right if it was only offered FREE to Infinity option 2 customers... me being on the economical opt 1

  • Is there a low cost/free upgrade for recent LR5 purchasers?

I just bought Lightroom 5. It arrived in my mailbox on Tuesday. Since LR6 just came out, is there some sort of free or low cost upgrade option to go to 6 for people in this situation? There was a similar program during the LR5 launch timeframe for people who bought LR4 just prior to the launch.

  • Upgrade cost to Oracle10g

    Hi ,
    In the file
    http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/technology-price-list.pdf
there are info about the price list of all Oracle products. Apart from that , there are info about the upgrade cost. For example for Oracle10g EE the Software Upgrade per named user plus is 176$. My question is :
Is this the upgrade cost of whichever previous version of Oracle (namely , Oracle7 , Oracle8i , Oracle9i) to Oracle10g and only enterprise edition of this previous version..., i mean if there is a previous Oracle9i EE or Oracle9i SE .. the cost upgrade to Oracle10g EE is the same...???
    Many thanks.
    Simon

Most larger companies purchase the initial license then pay annual fees tusually set to a percentage of the software price that covers maintenance and upgrades plus at least a minimal level of support. Advanced levels of support are usually an additional fee. You may want to check on the original purchase order and see if your site is paying annual fees. The upgrade could well be free (really already paid for).

  • Upgrading from OS 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard

Hello, I've heard mixed reviews from people at the Apple store to people on the street whether it's possible to upgrade directly from 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard. Below are my specs, and I'd love to hear a second opinion from someone!
    Model Name: Mac Pro
    Model Identifier: MacPro1,1
    Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 3 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: MP11.005C.B08
    SMC Version: 1.7f10

You should be able to upgrade the OS X to Snow Leopard with the less costly upgrade DVD
from Apple; that won't give you the newer iLife, or iWorks, but it would be a full install disc.
The computer should see an upgrade in RAM, too; 2GB probably is minimal, and this can be
a concern if you also have a jam-packed hard disk drive and no working free space for the
system or applications to use the OS X's automatic Virtual Memory, based on available space.
An upgrade from Tiger 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard will invite issues and problems from third-party
applications not written to run in the later OS X version; you may have to buy/upgrade them, too.

Anyway, the upgrade by itself on a new or 'secure erased' HDD may work just fine.
The hardware upgrade suggested (RAM, larger hard disk drive) would help. Also,
if there are any pending Firmware updates available, be sure to install them, too.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Help please! Broadband & TV upgrade

    Hey all!
I was just wondering, I live in a flat above a family business (bar & restuarant). My Grandmother already has a type of BT internet fitted but it's not BT Infinity.
The signal I get in my living room & in other places around the flat has a very weak signal which does not stay connected all the time. My Grandmother recently wanted to upgrade to BT Infinity (& the tv upgrade) for my sake so I am able to get my work done online without any interruption from the connection, BUT because when she first got everything installed under the business they are trying to charge her quite a bit more money ontop of her orignal contract even though my Grandmother is only wanting to get the package deal for me in the flat for my benefit..
What I am wanting to find out, is there a way I am able to get everything converted for the flat use rather than the businesses use thats not going to stress & confuse my Grandmother anymore than she already is with all this 'high tech' stuff as she would say. Thanks a million for your time, hope to hear some good news !
    Regards,
    J.Nelson

As its Business broadband, then you cannot add BT Vision to it anyway. As its part of the family business, then it would have to stay as a business line.
You would be better getting your own Residential Broadband line installed
If you just want a stronger signal, then you can buy things to boost the wireless signal.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • Infinity speeds not what BT promised in contract

    BT,
13 months ago I signed up to Infinity and then upgraded to Infinity2 earlier this year. My contract letter from BT advised I should be able to download at 29Mbps and for most of this year that has been the case. Often it exceeded that as can be seen from the attached graph. I appreciate it's not using the official BT test but I have used that and the results are identical. You can see the highest speed was 38.59Mbps. Impressive!
As you can see there has been a substantial drop in speed in recent weeks. I have performed tests via both Ethernet enabled PCs and wireless 'n' laptops and the results are identical. I haver also run tests at 6pm and 11.30pm with no difference so busy times are not a factor. I have performed a power down on the router but the low download speeds persist.
Is this a problem only BT can fix and if so how do I go about getting it fixed? Can it be done via these pages or is a phone call necessary?

resets are the worse thing you can do as the DLM will see the line as unstable and reduce your IP Profile to stabilise the line you now need to leave the modem powered up 24/7 with no restarts for at least the next 2 weeks to give the DLM to see the the line as stable and then your IP Profile should start rising again
