BT Infinity, TP-LINK, SamKnows

I am wondering if anyone else has been presented with this 'offer' or has this problem.
In April BT advised that they needed to hard wire my hub into the BT Vision box (in place of the old plug-in modems). So in May a BT engineer arrived and carried out the work. During his visit (and yes he was a bona fide BT engineer) he asked if I had been offered the chance to take a SamKnows box. He stated that BT were keen to monitor their performance and that installing a TP- LINK helped them to do this.
The real enticer was that he said that if we installed such a box we would get a couple of months of Broadband free of charge. Always keen to save some money (especially when a corporate such as BT is involved) I went for it and the guy went out to the van a brought back and fitted a brand new TP-LINK with a SamKnows badge on the front.
The box looks great and is obviously very busy monitoring traffic as sits there and merrily flashes its blue LED's. The worry is that I have received no such 'discount' and when I queried this BT denied all knowledge. They also seem totally unconcerned that one of their engineers has fitted a box in my living room that they know nothing about  - I clearly am very concerned!
There are two issues here: why have I got a device in my house that BT knows nothing about and why have I not received any discount on my bill? After having the usual 1 hour long call and being pushed from pillar to post it seems that the various BT departments are genuinely confused (but ultimately uninterested).
Has anyone else come across this set of circumstances?

It sound a bit odd to me, I think someone needs to look at your details.

  • Handling Infinity in Link Editor

    Hi,
I have requirement where I need to handle value 'Infinity' (∞) in Link Editor and set certain conditions based on that. But the conditional statements (if, stringif) do not seem to catch it (MII version 12.2)
∞ as number(integer, double) is not recognized by Link Editor, but "∞" as a string is accepted. Hence I tried converting it to a number using number("∞"). But that too doesn't work.
Any idea on how this can be acheived?  Thanks
Note: I get ∞ as an output of SPC Component as its considered as the a valid value per the requirements

    Yes it is.
    For AND : <<Condition1>> <b>&&</b> <<Condition2>>
    For OR : <<Condition1>> <b>||</b> <<Condition2>>
You can use the <b>double ampersand (&&)</b> for <b>AND</b> and <b>double pipe (||)</b> for <b>OR</b>

  • BT Infinity 2 Link speed issue

    Hello guys,
It's the first time I'm posting here so I hope I'm doing everything correctly.
I have BT Infinity 2 with the new Home Hub 5 since May. I live quite close to the cabinet, so my link speed has always been the maximum achievable (77.8/19.8). Real speed on 75/19, quite impressive.
I have never seen any sync issues, disconnections or sync rate dropdowns. Not until today.
This is ADSL checker for my number.
Since about a week, I've lost about 10 mbits. These are the current BT Hub details. Looks like I've been downgraded on "Impacted".
Is there any way to check my line and see if there are problems or stuff like these? In 3 months has been perfect!

    Hi,
My line is stable so does not loose sync, plus I usually do not turn off the Hub overnight.
I did that on friday night, and left it on since saturday when I woke up (very late). Nothing has changed...
The BT Speed Test also shows an horrible upload speed, that however is not true. On Speedtest i manage to get 63/18, with a slighlty higher ping than usual. I've always managed to get 75/19 (or more)

  • Task Overdue Emails

On the OOB Start a task process over due emails.  If frequency is selected "Weekly" and Recurrence 3 times does that mean it will send 1 email each week for 3 weeks?  If so, is it 7 calendar days after the due date then 14 then 21?
    Thanks.
    Tom
    Tom

    Tom,
Overdue Repeat – Set this parameter if you want to send a notification to a user when the task is overdue. Your options are Off, Daily, Weekly or Monthly.
You have the option of customizing the email that is sent in the Task Process. That will be covered in another post.
    The default setting is weekly.
Overdue Repeat Times – How many reminders do you want to send to the person or group a task is assigned to? You can enter a set number, or enter -1 for infinity. This means SharePoint will keep sending a reminder
on the schedule that you listed in the previous parameter until the task is marked as complete, the task process is cancelled or the task is deleted.
    The default setting is infinity

  • BT Infinity 2 and D-Link Powerline connectors

My main PC is connected to my BT Home Hub 3 using D-Link DHP-307AV/B 200 MBPS PowerLine connectors. I switch off the PC at night. Since around the time of upgrade to BT Infinity 2, I normally don’t get Internet connectivity when I switch on my PC in the morning. This problem can generally be cleared by powering down the D-Link adapter connected to the Hub and powering it up again. Has anybody else experienced this problem and, if so, know if there is any solution to it?

  • BT Infinity and TP-LINK TD-W8980

    Hello all,
I have recently purchased a TP-LINK W8980 router and I am having issues replacing my BT Home Hub with it.
Could anyone please help me with the configuration? Or better yet has anyone else got this router working on a BT Infinity connection.
I spoke to support and I used the details they provided me for the settings for the WAN connection and they just do not seem to work.
    Thank you,

I have purchased the above router to replace my home hub, but am having a nightmare installing it on my MAC. CD too small to fit in MAC, quick setup guide doesn't work, support line not solving issues. I know some others on the site have used this router, anyone able to share wisdom on setting up? • Accurate Exchange Upgrade Dates for BT Infinity?

Is there anywhere online that details the exact or most accurate information on when your local exchange will be upgraded for BT Infinity?
I've been patiently waiting for my exchange to be upgraded (STBSETT, Bassett, Hampshire) and was pleased to hear a rumour that it was happening for Southampton Sept 2011 which I'm assuming my exchange comes under. However when I check online at sites like Samknows it doesn't state anything. I'd like some accurate information please.

  • BT Infinity and Powerline.

I can say right now , that if you want a blistering fast network across the house i am using Dlink 501AV/B  500mb twin set, being plugged into airport extreme base station.
The mac is saying i have a 1gbs link now too, some cat 6 between the modem to powerpoint 1, and powerpoint 2 and pc/mac.
Decided to use the 'old' 200mb Dlink poweline adaptors to bt vision to router , and xbox 360 on final adaptor, and everythings ripping along.
Can highly reccomend powerline over wifi any day. And certainley these powerline adaptors, which are friendly with old powerline adaptors without any speed drop to old adaptors. Dlink ones are class too.
    =)

  • BT Infinity and 21CN related?

    Hi all,
Our local exchange was updated to 21CN earlier this year, and I was originally told (by BT) that after a possible hour of down-time, my connection speed should go to the maximum supported speed. I had to call BT to find this information out, there wasn't any communication to say the exhange was being updated or there'd be a change in connection speed.
A couple of days ago, we had some marketing through the post about BT Infinity and the super-fast broadband speeds of upto 40mb.
I called BT to ask if we could be upgraded to Infinity, but was told it's not available till March 2012.
I was wondering, if the exchange was updated back in March/April this year, why cant I make use of the 21CN until next year? If I go onto BT's site to sign up as a new customer, it shows 12mb - 20mb as a possible connection speed (currently connecting at just over 8mb, and always have done since broadband was available). Other ISP's show the same possible connection speed.
I did think it could be the router, but I'm still using the HomeHub (v2) and the exchange is about 5min walk from the house.

Try entering your telephone number (for most accurate result) into https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html
To confirm the estimate the line could achieve.
If your on ADSL go into your router stats and look for the connection type
I was on the basic ADSL upto 8Mb (G.992.1) I contacted BT See THIS THREAD.
They put me onG.992.3 (ADSL2) with the hope the exchange would after a period of "training" then automatically move me toG.992.5 (ADSL2+).
However in my case due the long line length the change to ADSL2 did not increase my speed.... and therefore the exchange did not automatically move me up any further.
If the Checker shows you could achieve the 20Mb speeds then you could try as I did and ask the forum mods if they can get you changed up.
Infinity (Fibre service) is not related to 21CN.
SamKnows for example or BT Openreach may show your exchange now has infinity but the important thing is your Primary Connect Point (small local green cabinet) has to have a larger cabinet installed next to/nearby and yours looks  to be scheduled to be Ready For Service in a few months time.
Keep using the checkers.... Mine was showing 30th Sept then on the 1st July Infinity became available.... but be aware it can go the other way... especially if the bloomin' snow arrives.
Picture of a small green cabinet (far right) with a typical Fibre Cabinet nearby with it's cooling vents
When the new Fibre cab is powered up you can easily hear the fans running, indicating that it may be Ready For Service or soon to be.

  • BT Infinity Checker

    Hello,
I have recently started to see fttc cabinets appearing in my local area, I have checked SamKnows and it shows date for 1st March 2012.
I was wondering if anyone knew when orders could start being pleaced or when the checker gets updated so I can see what speed i can be expected.
    Thankyou

This has been my fibre progress.-
Dec 2010 I spoke to the Openreach engineers putting the cables in in my towns high street.... they said everything was going according to plan.
April 2011 Fibre Cabinet installed next to my smaller PCP cabinet.
May various visits from Openreach wiring up and powering up.
The BT wholesale and Infinity website checkers initially showed Infinity would be available.-
March 2011 this changed shortly after Christmas to.-
July 1 then in June it changed to.-
June 30th then in mid June it changed to.-
June 22nd then as this date drew near it suddenly changed to.-
    Sept 30th 2011!!!!!
And on 1st July 2011 the Checkers showed it was available.
So as mentioned above keep an eye out for a new cabinet near your original, then regularly enter your TELEPHONE NUMBER for best accuracy into the checkers. The checkers can change overnight, as mine did at the beginning of the month.
    Infinity Available and estimate Result.-

  • When will infinity come to the hunslet exchange le...

As the title says just wanting to find out if my exchange will be upgraded to fttc as the speeds are simply atrocious

Click on.- Openreach document it's updated monthly currently 12th August.
Has exchanges accepting orders and the ones coming soon.
However it might be worth keeping an eye on the third section future exchanges.
But note just because an exchange has/is  being upgraded it does not guarantee all of the cabinets in the  town/village will be fibre enabled.
I have Infinity but my friend living on the North side of town has no idea if or when his (pcp) cabinet will be upgraded.
If you click on my exchange code in my signature you will see Samknows saying FTTC available in some areas.

Hello I am just wondering I saw them doing work adding fibre optic cables outside my house since before Christmas and about 2 or 3 weeks ago for a few days any one know how long it normally takes to get the fibre optic cables connected to the exchange? I am not connected to to the cabinet but they said they have a new way to connect houses to the cabinet Green box My exchange.

I checked the bt checker but it says I can't get it yet. Just looking for more information

    Hi stephen1982,
Just to confirm, are you on an exchange only line as the link you posted will not work for me.
If so you cannot get Infinity yet.  BT are owrking on putting cabinets outside exchanges to enable E/O lines to get FTTC.
However, I don't think many have been installed as yet.
I'm sure one of the CL's will be along with a more detailed answer soon.
