BT Infinity Usage

I currently use on average 13GB a month through an iPad, smart tv, two iPhones and the kids watching YouTube- light to medium usage? I currently have an average download speed if 11MB/S. Will the increased Infinity speeds have an effect on my monthly usage? Have upgraded over phone to infinity unlimited but having now had chance to read small print, I'm not sure i need unlimited usage and 76mb download speeds? How much difference does infinity make?<br>

I would definitely go for an unlimited package whether that be Unlimited Infinity 1 or Unlimited Infinity 2 is obviously your choice. The reason I would go for unlimited is that you will no doubt use more of the limits as time goes on, whether this is on your TV, smartphones or tablets and if you are unlimited then there will be no nasty surprises if you exceed the limit.
As there is only £3 of a difference between option 1 and option 2 I would go for option 2 which gives you a bit more speed which will be of benefit if more than one person is using the Internet for say watching a movie or playing games etc.

  • BT Infinity Usage Monitor not updating.....hmmm???

This happens at the end of every month.  I'm starting to think it is an actual ploy from BT to stop users from knowing how much broadband usage they have left?  The usage monitor normally starts acting up around the 25th of every month....then you get an odd day where it works then it then it stops updating completely.  This leaves a BT user in a vunerable position.
A, Scared of using Internet - Not wanting a penalty charge by going over your limit!
B, Not allowing the BT user to use their full amount of data that they are paying for = saving BT money = ripping us off!!!
SORT IT OUT BT.......IT'S JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

A lot more in this thread regarding the usage monitor,

    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
Although the router can give the stats, it may not be completely accurate. It can reset, and it seems the connection time may not actually relate to the usage.
It might be worth checking daily for a while in order to compare the figures better, not forgetting that the online meter is midnight to midnight.

  • BT Infinity Usage allowance

    Hello,
I have just looked at my usage allowance for this month and according to BT's usage monitor I have gone over, it states that I have been sent an advisory email, but I have had no email's from BT.
Looks like another screw up, BT doesn't take into account that my service is always getting interrupted, and my phone keeps getting disconnected, when I phone them from my mobile, it's always 'oh it won't happen again, please accept our apologies', and we will put a 'Tag' on your line so it doesn't happen again.....Total BS.
I have lost count of however many downloads that I have lost due to crappy service from BT, so will I renew my contract?
    NO!

the email advising you of usage will have been sent to your BT email address

  • The curious case of Infinity 1 and high usage - a ...

Please help! My Mum recently took out the 20GB Infinity 1 package, along with a new HH5. Since then her  broadband usage has gone through the roof - previously using around 1-2 GB per month - now its around 60-70GB or more. They confirmed that HER usage was very low although there were other devices on the hub (even though BT changed the wireless key around 4 weeks earlier) – nobody was given the new key. Last week BT advised we change the wireless key AND       the hub password - we have done both. However, since then there has been another 17GB of usage. She has been charged for exceeding her limit, even though she is not using the broadband. Nobody else is either - its impossible – all devices have been barred (or limited) through the hub. I can only think BT has a data reading error. No other devices are listed. She does not stream videos (or do anything at all really!) on her one device. Her laptop says her usage for the last 60 days is 1.83GB. Please help, its driving me nuts!!

    hi
that does sound like a lot.
do you have sky on demand connected or another tv package that you can stream via your broadband.
even if you did it would still need a lot of viewing as a hd movie might be 1.5gb
is this the usage monitor you are using https://www.bt.com/appsauth/genericlogin.do?TYPE=33554433&REALMOID=06-97c7b65c-4070-10cb-a9e1-83aaa3...
    edit:
    just a thought.
what computer operating system have you got loaded on any computer in the house.
reason i ask is we had problems with a desktop at work last week. it was running xp and had a 256gb hard drive and when i tried a defrag it said 253gb was used and showed in red.
after digging around it turned out to be a corrupt windows update that continuosly kept reloading while the computer was on.

  • BT INFINITY - 40 GB USAGE

    Hi,
ive got a question. Yesterday I checked bt page and I discovered that new infinity - "2" is available. But on the same moment I saw that normal infinity had right now usage limit - 40 GB / month. This limit is only new customers or for everyone ???
My landlord sign the contract 7 months ago.
I am waiting for your answers.
Thank you and sorry for my mistakes with language

    Hi
BT Infinity option 1 has the 40GB limit and as far as I am aware always has had that limit.
BT Infinity option 2 is unlimited.
The old Infinity option 1 was limited on the upload I believe it was fixed at 2 mb but now you can upgrade it to 10mb up.
The Old Infinity option 2 can now be upgraded from 40 mb down to upto 76MB down and the up load can be upgraded from 10mb up to upto 20mb and is completely unlimited download.

  • Peak usage restrictions for infinity

This post is mainly relating to spotify which is a legal and paid for service. I was expecting some traffic shaping as it uses a P2P system for sending/receiving data. However, I wasn't expecting a near enough block on it's usage doing peak times.
Is there anything I can do to make this block more acceptable with BT? I agreed to reasonable traffic shaping, not a 99% drop in speed for p2p services.
Otherwise very happy with the service as download services for all other legal services I can use that don't use p2p work very well.

I use Spotify all the time without any problems at all.
Now I wonder if it's because I am on Infinity option 1? and if so that cannot be fair.
I pay less and get a better service!!!
If this is the reason then I think BT should do something about reinstating Spotify for "Unlimited" Infinity Option 2 customers to use at anytime.
In KerryG message it mentions Option 1 as not being traffic managed.
Quote below is from KerryG message #18 in THIS THREAD.-
Re: BT TO SCRAP 300GB LIMIT!.
    on 08-03-2011 16h27
    Hi everyone
Yes, this is true! BT Total Broadband and BT Infinity customers will benefit from the removal of Fair Usage Policy (FUP) controls when they begin to be removed from April 2011. Once removed, heavy user customers will be able to download/stream as much as they wish without having their speeds restricted.
BT will remove the FUP controls currently applied to customers with ‘atypical’ usage. Today atypical users are restricted at 300GB usage and account for less than 0.5% of the BT customer base. BT will not target any individuals with restrictions based on usage levels. However, we still have traffic management policies that will restrict certain applications / protocols, such as P2P, when the network is busy.
As BT continues to invest in the network and network bandwidth we can now remove these restrictions and ensure the experience of the wider customer base.
(Note that charges will still apply for going over limits on BT Total Broadband Options 1&2 and BT Infinity Option 1 but traffic will not be managed.)
    Thx

  • BT Infinity Data Usage

    Hi
I feel as though I need to vent as I've seen other people with similar problems about data usage in the past.
Basically we've switched to Infinity last week 13 Aug 2013 and yesterday I received an email to say that we have used 37GB of our 40GB limit in 5.5 days!
Our household has 2 working adults with the following items attached wirelessly and used in the evenings between 7-11
    2x Iphone
    1x iPad
    1x Macbook Pro
    1x PS3
    1x Sky+ HD via Ethernet
Our previous Broadband supplier said that our monthly data consumption was <10GB per Month
    Usual activities include
Web browsing via BBC website, Guardian Online, Facebook browsing
Video streaming via Youtube + Vimeo around 30mins a week for work
NetFlix around 2hours max a night and maybe 5hours at the weekend.
    Emails
    We do not do...
    Online gaming
    Bit Torrents
    Large Content Downloads
    Download anything from Sky
Yesterday I was on the phone to BT about the problem for 51mins
This morning I was passed from Billing to Tech to Billing to Tech then Customer Services and was on the phone for 1hr 17mins
No other devices have been on our network and we've changed our Secure Password.
Th upshot being that if an investigation takes place and it looks as though we have used this much data we'll have to pay for it.
Can anyone please explain how BT can claim that we've used so much bandwidth within less than 1 week?

...believe that I had Super HD content with my previous ISP though?
Hypothetically speaking let's say I watched 2x 50min episodes of a series a night in Super HD over the past week, would that burn up 40GB in a week?
Does anyone know the numbers of say 500mins of streaming Super HD content?

  • BT Infinity Data Usage Wrong

After getting a warning at the end of January about my data usage exceeding 240GB, I've been pretty annoyed about the Infinity Option 2 service, since it is patently neither 'Infinite' nor 'Unlimited'.
I took it upon myself to monitor my own usage, and for the last couple of days I've been estimating how much bandwidth I've been using - I figured a couple of hours Iplayer, some surfing, a little Xbox would mean about 3GB max, so I checked my router which shows :
    Connection time : 1 days, 19:49:44
    Data Transmitted/Received (MB) : 1885.9 / 57.2
So, looks like I over estimated it, total is just under 2GB.
    Now, issue is, I checked
    http://www.bt.com/appsyouraccount/usage/viewYourBroadbandUsage.do
Which is showing 16.27GB, updated 02 Feb 2011 at 23:59
(It showed about 7.25GB, updated 01 Feb 2011 at 23:59 previously)
This is a vast difference - and even looking at the overlapping period, BT have me using about 8-9GB in one day, and I have a total of 2GB for that day, and the next. (Actually, I was at work all day on the 2nd, and at night my speed was 0.5MB/s - which I raised a fault for, so it would seem incredible)
Now, I'm incensed about what I believe to be mis-selling of the product, and locking into a contract that may mean no service (2MB/s for 30 days in useless to me since I use VNC for work), but this issue of them using incorrect measurements as a determining factor on whether to bother providing a service that's being paid for (at a vast premium over similar ones) would seem to be a major issue.
If they want only low usage customers who've never heard of Iplayer, they should market it that way, and allow people such as me to use providers more suited to our needs. Hiding information during the buying process, and using subjective and unauditable reasons for tricking people into paying for a service they have no intention of providing is unreasonable and should be investigated.
Anyone else had a similar experience?
    For Info :
Getting the data information from your router :
    1 - http://192.168.1.254/
2 - Click on Settings and Sign in (password on router unless you reset it)
3 - Click on Advanced Settings and "Continue to Advanced Settings"
    4 - Click on Broadband.

Not sure anyone's still listening, but it's therapeautic to type it out, so  here's the latest.
I went on BT's live customer service and reported it :
"We are currently experiencing some technical issues with our online service, which is why you are experiencing this problem"
I asked what my current usage was, ignoring the website tool as was told to call the 'fair usage team' on 0800 7076044.
I called them, spoke to someone who told me it was either
1/ My router had become unencrypted
    2/ A Trojan
I asked why either of those would result in the router reporting the wrong information and explained how a router works - regardless of the source of the data transfer, the router would have it in it's logs (barring ridiculous scenarios involving hollywood movie plots).
I was transferred to 'the technical team' at 10:40, on hold until 10:56
    back on hold 10:57
off hold 11:03 - informed they were 'getting hold of the customer services team'
back on hold 11:03-11:08 - told they could help and checking with manager, back on hold
11:24 - back off hold for a couple of minutes as they suggest there might be a button on the web page to report it, informed them I'd already raised a complaint with them 2 days ago and asked if they could just tell me my usage for February thus far - from their systems, back on hold 11:27
11:40-11:53 - informed they couldn't access that data. Now asking if the figures on the router could be wrong under any circumstances, Manoj, Ref vol011-45571649670 confirmed that those figures (and therefore the ones noted above) can't be wrong and include all the data through the router, regardless of the source.
This is confirmation that the figures BT are using to cap peoples service punitively for 30 days to an unusable 2MB/s are being overestimated (at least in my case) by a factor of 4.
I would presume that 300GB means I'm actually using 75GB.
Given up on the phone call now - 12:05 - he wanted to transfer me to billing.

  • BT infinity Broadband usage

Have been with BT broadband now for 2 days. Have my own MyBT account set up. It shows my BT account number and under 2 tabs titled My Bills and My services. I tried to look fro broadband usage and could not find the information. when i click on the View your usage box in My bills and payments the response is 'unsuccessful as you dont have any products or services linked to this account. If i try My services tab and click on the broadband icon there is no list that comes up next to it for broadband usage as indicated by other users on this forum.
So i called the telephone helpdesk. First time they told me to change my browser. So went from Moxilla to IE and disabled pop up blockers. No success.
So called up technical services again and they could tell me my usage over the phone. When i asked for setting up the facility on my MyBT page he hummed and ahhed and told me to download the thinkbroadband software. I did that and now i get on my desktop the broadband usage box.
But i dont want it permanently on my desktop. I want it on my MyBT page as everyone else. What am i doing wrong?? Please help

    Hi there
As someone who has unlimited I dont track my usage and so I will try to help.
If the software that you have can be opend to veiw usage then you don't have to have it on the desktop and you can open it when you want to check.
If the BT usage information is not up yet that might be because you are within the ten day settling in period where DLM and BRAZ takes place so they may not be tracking your usage yet.
As said unsure if that is totally true but if you can't see your usage on bts page within 10 days I would call BT again to check what is going on, try talking to the accounts people.
    Hope this helps

  • Upgrade to Unlimited BT Infinity 1: post-order iss...

A little earlier I accepted an emailed BT offer to upgrade from the Infinity package I have with a monthly limit, to Unlimited BT Infinity 1. Went through the online process, upgrade was confirmed online and now I have two issues.
    (1)
The emailed offer clearly stated in one of the terms notes at the bottom (relevant extracts only):
... by invitation only to existing BT Infinity 1 customers signing up to the Unlimited Infinity 1 and Unlimited Weekend Calls package for 12 months. ... At the end of the minimum period of 12 months. ... You must stay on the Unlimited Infinity 1 and Unlimited Weekend Calls package for 12 months and you may not downgrade. ...
HOWEVER, the emailed order confirmation now received has this:
Your contract is for: 18 months. starting on 04 Mar 2013.
    Questions:
    (a) Why has the contract term I thought I was agreeing to increased from 12 months to 18 months, and who/where do I contact about it?
    (b) Why does the new contract term start from 4 March and not now?
    (2)
During the ordering process I had to set up a BT ID.
I'm not really sure why, as I already had one -- probably not called a BT ID at the time it was organised as I've had it for donkeys years, but it allows me to log in at BT's pages and see my billing, online usage and so on. Nevertheless and despite this, I "played ball" as there didn't seem to be an option for saying I already had one, or ignoring the step, so created this second ID with a new password, security question etc. Whether it will now replace the older one, or whether I'll now have two, I've no idea. But it said I would receive an email to activate it...
... which I did. Clicked the LINK from there and now in the middle of the activation process online, but really don't know what's going on as I'm being asked to choose a password and security question all over again. I've entered the same ones as I did during the ordering process, but don't know yet if this will be accepted or not, as I've hit a snag a bit further down -- this is what I need help with.
In the section for "Alternative ways of contacting you" there are two fields for a mobile phone number and an alternative email address (from my BT one), plus a radio button for "I don't have alternative contact details".
I don't have a mobile phone but do have an alternate email which I don't mind them having, and NEITHER of these fields was marked with a star meaning it was a required field (as most of the others were), so I filled in the email field and left the mobile one blank. But having completed the rest of the form I clicked to Continue and it won't let me! A red exclamation triangle's now come up against the mobile number box saying "Required field", presumably because I've left it blank. I tried putting in a dash, then n/a , but it won't have it ("Please enter a valid mobile number").
Aaaarrrghh! What do I do? All I can think of is to use the radio button to say I don't have any alternate contact details, but that's illogical when I do (the email addie): it could be helpful for them to have it if ever I can't access my BT mail for some reason.
So any ideas on that one too? Or again, who could I contact to get the ID activated, who could get round this mobile number requirement?
    Many thanks.

Thank you, will try the Chat option tomorrow (or rather, considering the time now, later today).
On looking again at the order confirmation it's odd, because that date of 4 March for the contract is there, as copied iin my original post, but I've only just realised it's 2013, not 2014! (and actually early March last year is about when I first changed to Infinity from an ordinary broadband package).
So there is still a contract date/length question, but it's now different! Is it 18 months from last March, or 12 months from now??? Very confusing.
Lower down last night's email are two further dates, although the word "contract" isn't included:
Your new calling plan starts on: 09 Jan 2014
Your broadband starts on: 09 Jan 2014
I'll also try with all the zeros for the mobile number as you suggest (was scratching my head about how I could check it, then the penny dropped... just ring it. Duh!!)
    Thanks again.

  • Crazy usage

My BT Infinity 1 plus Anytime Calls package (usage limited to 20Gb) went live on 2nd Feb. According to BT, since then I have managed to exceed my 20Gb and I don't believe it.
I used to use a program called Netmeter to monitor my usage when I was with TalkTalk on copper and my monthly usage never exceeded 6Gb. Ok, this was only monitoring internet traffic between my PC and the internet and usage such as Skype and Smart TV traffic was not seen by Netmeter, but I only infrequently use my TV to accesses iPlayer and Skyping, at the time, was negligible. On this basis I thought 20Gb was more than enough.
Information (or is it mis-information) from BT has done nothing to resolve this.
    My Bill shows:
    Usage since 03 February 15:£0.00
Last updated: 07 February 15 at 08:07However, viewing my broadband usage shows my usage from 1st Feb to 6th Feb as being 2.89Gb over my 20Gb allowance. Why doesn't My Bill show the cost for this excess?
Then selected Usage & Analysis followed by Broadband. Selected Date Range and entered From 02/02/2015 To 08/02/2015. This resulted in the message:There was no chargeable usage in that period
Totally confused at this stage so phoned BT support. The guy I spoke to was able to give me the traffic figures for each day I have been connected. When I asked why I, as a customer, could not see these figures by entering each day into to Date Range on Usage & Analysis, his only explanation was 'it takes 48 hours for usage figures to be updated'. If this was true, how was it that he could see the figures?
Looking back over my internet activity since BT activation I have spent:
several hours online each day, mainly browsing with a few relatively small downloads plus a bit of viewing on YouTube etc.
roughly 2 hours viewing BBC iPlayer on my (not so) Smart TV
2 hours 10 minutes on a Skype call to NZ.
I could be wrong but this, to my mind, doesn't add up to anything like 23Gb.
    My questions are:
am I wrong about the traffis generated by the above activities?
should BT be providing their customers with accurate and up-to-date usage figures plus the costs for exceeding this usage instead of the confusing and contradictory information it is providing at present
my PC had 2 ethernet adapters. It should be possible to route ALL my LAN traffic through one adapter and only have the WAN connected to the other adapter via HH5. That way I can use a Network Monitoring tool to track all usage. Has anyone done this and, if so, could thay post how they did it?
