BT is starting to affect my sanity....

So here is the story of how i've been trying to get phone/broadband installed...
Moved into the property and ordered TV/Calls/Broadband from Sky... received a letter in the post a week later telling me they couldn't activate the calls/broadband but gave no reason. Turns out the previous occupants (also my landlord) had theirs through Hydro Electric and apparently Sky can't port numbers etc from anyone other than Virgin or BT (i guess because they own the lines... go figure huh?)
So I decide it will be much easier to just contact BT and order Line Rental/Calls/Broadband from them instead.
Placed my order online on 15th June stating that there is an existing line but i'll need a new phone number. Previous occupants had a residential and a business line apparently but what's that got to do with me?
Woman from India (i'm guessing) called me on 21st June asking me if my line was working and if i had a number. Also asked me if i'd received any sort of confirmation in the post from BT. I said yes the line had been working since the 19th and gave her the new number but nothing in the post. I wasn't at home however so I was to call back when I was and she could do a line test.
Called back on the 23rd... turns out the residential line which had been working a few days earlier is now dead. Switch the phone into the socket for the business line and it's working. I now get told that after a line test there is only a business line active in my apartment. She has absolutely no idea how there was a working residential line here just a few days earlier and tells me the number that was working here is now working somewhere else. (WTF?!?!)
She also tells me that the residential line has been permanently disconnected from the exchange (again wtf / sigh). Apparently she will have to send a request to the business team and ask them to convert the business line to a residential one. I ask (imo extremely reasonably) why they can't just reconnect the residential line that shouldn't have been disconnected in the first place. She tells me she'll send a request to the business team again. I explain that she's ignoring me and the customer service stinks. She tells me that she doesn't work in the customer service team and that she'll send a request to the business team again (shocking customer service). I ask to talk to her supervisor as I feel i'm getting nowhere.
Supervisor comes on the phone... seems much nicer and happier to help. Has no idea why the line was disconnected and how it was working a few days earlier with a new number but assures me that they will investigate to give me an answer. I ask how long the request with the business team will take as his colleague couldn't answer it. He tells me he will have an answer the next day in the morning. Wait all day on the 24th for a call back... NOTHING.
Called back again today (Sat 25th Jun)... original woman isn't there and neither is her supervisor. Nothing has happened with the request to the business team. Have to explain the whole thing again to someone new. Guess what she tells me time and time again... a request has gone to the business team.
So... to summarize... BT make it too hard for other companies to provide service on their line so it takes me 2 weeks of screwing around to find out it's too much hassle to get a line from Sky. Order with BT instead... they "lose" the residential line that was here but leave the business one connected. They "lose" the reason why the residential line was disconnected. They are completely in the dark as to how there was a working residential line here with a new phone number a few days earlier... and they answer every single question or remark with "a request has been sent to the business team"
To top it all off... i can't track the order online because it's still only pending according to the order tracker.... and because of internal organisational/communication/incompetence problems my order hasn't even been initiated (ie no home hub has been sent out so i'm not expecting to have internet soon)
Ironically... i'm paying 3 quid a day to access a really crappy BT wifi hotspot for internet access... and of course they don't give you a non-chargeable number to call them on so it's costing me a small fortune in mobile phone calls to them.
I'm just flabbergasted at the extent to which they have no idea what's going on and how the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. It is the proverbial brick-wall... you just cannot get a clear answer from anyone... so please someone help me as I am beginning to fear i'm the only sane person left!

Ok... thanks guys... but that's really not much help at all. I was given an 0800 number to get directly through to the same person on the line activation team each time.
I'd appreciate not having this thread filled up with random stuff not applicable to the problem i'm trying to get some advice on.
hi Smck79, sorry this is a customer to customer forum and I do not believe that we can help you. The moderators of these forums are the only BT reps on here. They might be able to assist you if you fill out this form with a link back to your post.

  • [solved]qemu-kvm, cant start all guests with latest qemu-kvm

    Hi there!
    I have a problem when I updated qemu-kvm package from 1.0.1-3 to 1.1.0-1
Some Linux guests can get started without problems but other will die after grub tries to load the kernel.
In my messages log i can find the following error when starting a affected guets:
    qemu-kvm[2026]: segfault at 10 ip 00007f2845549d0e sp 00007f283d024c00 error 4 in qemu-system-x86_64[7f2845419000+308000]
After downgrading to the previous version i could start the guests again.
Did anyone had similar problems with the current qemu?
    Kind regards
Edit: Upgrade to 1.1.1.1 solves the issue

After some reading I found a workaround:
    Edit the VM configuration with
    #virsh edit <VM NAME>
    and replace 'pc-0.15' with "pc-1.1'
    <os>
    <type arch='x86_64' machine='pc-1.1'>hvm</type>
    <boot dev='hd'/>
    </os>
The diff output of the changed /etc/libvirt/qemu/<VM_Name>.xml file with the saved one should look like:
    #diff test.xml test.xml.sav
    15c15
    < <type arch='x86_64' machine='pc-1.1'>hvm</type>
    > <type arch='x86_64' machine='pc-0.15'>hvm</type>
Now the changed VM start successful

  • Problem with failing ata link

    Hello,
I might be in the wrong section, but I got a serious issue I can´t track down!
    Lets start with the symptoms:
on BIOS-HW-initialisation I get randomly a S.M.A.R.T. error for my root-HD (if the error occurs ARCH won´t boot, but WIN7 does from the same drive without any problems!)
if ARCH start usually everything is fine, but:
recently, during normal usage of ARCH, my second HD with my home-partition disappeared (still listed on /etc/mtab, but no more in fdisk -l or lsblk)
I know, that I can´t exclude possible hardware-problems, but since my second HD never showed any problems via S.M.A.R.T. I wouldn´t consider it as origin of the problem.
Maybe this is due to a problematic ata-chip on my mainboard (ASRock 880g Extreme3)?
This could maybe explain the errors randomly between both drives.
    As additional information:
Earlier I experienced problems booting ARCH with some 'frozen ata links' already, which were related to my DVD-drive (at least they disappeared after I plugged it off).
The errormessages did not point to the DVD-drive, but to my earlier root-HD, which broke after a short lifetime of maybe 1.5 years.
I don´t know if this could be a mainboard related problem.
Can those problems affect the sanity of harddrives?
Then why didn´t WIN7 had any problems at all? (Okay maybe WIN7 simply ignores problems...)
I used Kubuntu previously of ARCH and sata-related error messages came after the migration to ARCH.
I would think, that this could lead to a driver/kernel related issue, but to be honest, I am not enough into this matter...
My search in the WWW didn´t lead to any helping clues...
So if someone more experienced could give me some advice on interpreting the situation and my syslog I would be very thankful!
If you need more information, tell me and I will update the post!
    Thanks and greeting!
    Malte

  • ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close... all the time!

I just bought an iPod nano (5th generation). I downloaded iTunes 9.2 for Windows XP. So far, I have only about 15 songs on the iPOD, because whenever I connect it to the computer an error occurs. It goes like this:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the unconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something,
the information you were working on might be lost.

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall exactly how it is described in Apple's support pages, but nothing seems to work.
I'm starting to lose my sanity. Does anyone know what to do?

I'm thinking your iTunes library got currupted somehow.
Try this (assuming iTunes is shut down and not showing in Task Manager > Processes tab)
    Rename this file
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\iTunes Library.itl
    to ....\iTunes Library.old
Try to start iTunes, will it come up now?

  • Logic 9 + Mountain Lion = Performance Problems

    Hi,
After months of debating to upgrade to Mountain Lion, I did it (and regret it like iOS 6).
I'm just wondering if anyone gets the issue with Logic 9, where it works for around an hour no problems, then the CPU meter goes mental and causes glitching in the audio no matter what I/O buffer size I choose, or what sample rate my projects in, OR how many plugins/instruments I have open?
It's really starting to affect my clients as to solve the problem the OS needs a full reboot.
I am fully updated in Software Update and it worked perfectly until Mountain Lion.
    Hope there is a solution!
    Tim

Your question is too vague... More details are required...

  • How many Apps is to much?

I have a 3GS and currently have 70 apps including ones apple put there. My phone runs fine with no problems. My question is can you have to many and start to affect the the phone?

3rd party apps cannot run in the background, so the answer is no.
You may experience some operational problems if you run your iPhone with the storage capacity full or very close to it which is the same with a computer. At the present time, only 11 home pages are available for access with the iPhone. This doesn't prevent you from installing more 3rd party apps than 11 home pages can hold.

  • Please help before it kills my entire library!

I’m sure this has come up before but I have to ask.
When I add new songs to my iTunes, it will “misplace” older ones and adds exclamation points to them?
At first I thought this was because I had to have my hard drive replaced and it lost the original songs but the more songs I add, the more get “lost” and now its started to affect the songs that I have purchased from iTunes recently so I KNOW its not due to the hard drive replacement. What can I do? Way too many of my songs are exclamationed now. I backed up the list several weeks ago because I had a suspicion this was what was wrong. The weird part is, even though the songs are gone in iTunes, it doesn’t delete them from the iPod. Even if I clear those songs. It will add the new ones just fine, but it won’t delete the old ones. There doesn’t appear to be any rhyme or reason to the deletion of my songs. They just go as I add more. I have 330 songs and 70 of them are exclamationed. I had more but started deleting them before I figured out what was happening. So far, I seems to only happen when I add new music, no matter where its from. It even happens when I purchase from iTunes. Please help before it kills my entire library!
I have an 8 gig iPod so I know its not because its full. Oh, and Im running on an older Gateway, but I can’t even begin to tell you what year or anything and OS is Windows XP Pro. I also have the latest version of iTunes and update regularly. Any other info you need?
I haven’t needed to lately, but Im scared for if I need to restore my iPod. (I have had to do it once before) Im sure that it will delete the songs that have been preserved that were deleted on the tunes. One more thing, it APPEARS to be mixing up the artwork on the iPod itself with other artists. For example, my Kerli artwork is now my Matchbox 20 artwork and so on. That problem is only with a few songs though.
Any ideas? Thanks SO much for trying to help!

Check your Preferences > Advanced > iTunes Music folder location to make sure that it is correct. Also, is "Keep iTunes Music folder organized checked"? Have you tried to Consolidate Library? (Note: I'm not saying to do that, yet, just asking if you have.) Have you used Windows Explorer to actually locate your music?
I've seen where iTunes could be "missing" a song but not indicate it with the exclamation mark until some action is attempted -- moving, dragging, playing. For me it would be because I forgot to turn on the external drive where my music is stored. But then, once I mount the drive, I still have to point iTunes to its Music folder again.

  • MXF read errors in CC 2014.1

Has anyone else noticed a sudden onset of MXF read errors after updating to the latest version of Premiere?  I'm getting the dreaded "Red Frames" on footage that works fine in the previous version (2014.0).  The problem doesn't occur on import, meaning the errors will show up while I'm working (indicated by the red X in the lower right corner of the screen).  The only errors I receive during import are related to unsupported file types (I'm dragging in the entire captured card, and it doesn't like the XML files).  I have maintained the same workflow successfully since Premiere Pro 5.5 with this footage, only now am I beginning to see issues that are exclusive to this version.
The issue occurs on both converted and new projects, and I'm starting to lose my sanity - the solution I've found is simple: re-import the footage after moving it to a different location on your system, and re-link the files.  This clears up the error, telling me that it has nothing to do with the files and everything to do with how they're being read.  The files work fine in VLC, along with previous versions of Premiere that are installed on our other work machines.
The problem with this solution is that it totally Adobe's me: that is, it wastes my time on a bug that didn't appear before a recent upgrade while working to a deadline.
The MXF files are coming from a Canon XF300. http://www.canon.ca/inetCA/en/products/method/gp/pid/4484#_030
    MPEG2, 35Mbps (VBR) 4:2:0, 1920x1080 (30p)
If you're noticing this issue as well, please let me know.  Perhaps there's a codec issue on my system, or perhaps this latest update should have just been avoided...  Is there any way to roll back to CC 2014.0 ?
    Operating environment:
    Windows 7 x64, SP1
    Core i7-3930k, 32gb RAM
    Nvidia Quadro 4000
    Media access:
The files are stored locally on a mechanical drive, the Premiere is running off of an SSD.
    Workflow:
Copy the entire card to the computer, and then dragging the folder that it was copied to into Premiere. Wait for Premiere to conform and import.
    Where the issue is noticed:
The problem typically occurs when footage has been nested with effects applied to it (at the root, not on the parent sequence).  The error doesn't appear on import, but rather during the scrubbing/playback.

"This kind of issue…" refers to what? File based camera formats like AVCHD, etc.? As Neil says, there are lots of things that can go wrong with these kinds of formats. Chief among them is not ingesting them correctly, via the Media Browser not File > Import.

I don't believe I know of any one company creating complex software that doesn't need a larger support staff. We do the best we can with what we are given. Of course, I have no control over how many support agents we have on the phones or on chat. I'm lucky now that I have a couple of agents dedicated to the forums, so you should see this situation improving.

2 big bogus problems affecting my sanity.
Helpviewer does not work. It does not respond. I've tried the troubleshooting steps found on this site, but to no avail. http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/helpviewer.html
I keep getting the multi-language "must hold down the power button for a few seconds" message. I ran the complete hardware test and everything checked ok.
This is all too Unixy to be troubleshoot. So sue me if I don't know Unix. I just want to turn on my computer and use it. Why is it so hard to find help on this crap?

Ok, ok, my acting is over. I thought (correctly, it seems) that if I squeaky-wheeled it, I would get a lot of responses and quickly. The thing is I had to convince the wife to go with a Mac after a using a Gateway PC for 9 long years. No, I don't think that the VAX is better than UNIX, if that matters.
Anyway, all of your suggestions will help me get to a solution much faster. Thanks for all of your replies. I'll check them out.
What happens to my IMAC (see the end for my system):
    Help Viewer Inactivity
I see the home page of the help viewer, sometimes. Usually when the home page appears and I type a question, the clock like rotator spins and spins with no result. Sometimes a list of answers to my question comes up, but nothing happens when I click on any of the answers.
    Reboot problem (Multi-language message screen)
I think it happens when I'm using Safari. It's pretty much when I run Safari and any other progam(s). I use the modem to connect to the internet (ATT worldnet). The reboot problem happens to both user accounts.

Gmail can only access from a server that supports POP3 -- .Mac does this, but conceptually it is counter to the philosophy of an IMAP account, which with Mail you have set your .Mac account to be.
In setting up Gmail to access an account (remember it does so as POP) you have a selection of whether to leave messages on the server or not, and furthermore the instructions for such Gmail access talk about the possibility of too many messages on the server. But that concept is based upon the server being a POP server. Yours is set up to operate as an IMAP account, and in an IMAP account all messages and indeed the entire Inbox resides on the server. If a message were removed from the server it would be removed from the Inbox you are expecting to view in Mail on your Mac. The symptom would be just like a "winking out", as Mail remembers the message was once there, but suddenly it is gone!
Access via Gmail is just like accessing from another email client or device.
More info, and confirmation of what you find, please.

  • Why won't Links open from e-mail if Firefox is default browser

I still have this problem and now it is starting to affect the browsers functionality and useability. When Firefox is my default browser any link outside of Firefox (like in my e-mail) won't open which is becoming a nuisance. I am running Windows 7 which may be the cause of the problem via a setting but I can't locate the needle in the haystack or it may have happened at a Firefox update. Firefox has been my favorite and only browser since Netscape 1.0 but if I can't resolve this problem I will have to switch to another which I really don't want to do. Help!!!

Thanks for your solution jsher. After updating firefox my links stopped working. I checked all settings and associations but nothing fixed the problem. I had to go into Firefox, options, advanced, and use "check now" that firefox is the default browser. Fixed problem and I can carry on using firefox.
