BT Line Fault or My Fault?

Hello,
This morning I was browsing the internet, and my internet suddenly disconnected so I went to make a phonecall to my provider but noticed we had no dial tone on the wireless phones (wireless phones attached to extension socket) so I was unable to make a phone call I decided to check the mian telephone (main telephone connected to main socket downstairs) this had no dial tone as well, and just about as I was going to hang the phone up I heard a dial tone on the main telephone so I checked the wireless phones which was also getting a dial tone. I contacted BT, and they came back telling me they found not faults when they ran the line test so I just left it thinking ok it might be a one off.
This afternoon I was browsing the internet, and my internet suddenly disconnected so I checked the wireless phones, and once again it had no dial tone but this time I never checked the dial tone on the main phone as I presumd it would have no dial tone either. I called BT again, and once again they said there was no faults but I am thinking well if my phones are working absolutely fine now - its not going to show a fault is it - the man told me to plug the main telephone into the master socket - when I removed the faceplate this caused my wireless telephone to disconnect which I have just been told is normal that if the main socket faceplate is removed it will disconnect the extension socket as well.
I am thinking because both telephone sockets go down at the same time, and I have two seperate phones one wired attached to the main socket and one wireless attached to the extension socket something is wrong with the main socket which is causing issues for the extension socket.

Do you pay BT for your line rental and calls?
If you are using another ISP, then its possible that they were doing some work on their equipment in the exchange, which would have resulted in your phone being disconnected.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

    Hi,
    Did you find the answer for this error? I'm getting exactly the same issue.
    But, only difference is I'm installing 11.1.0.6 RAC on RHEL 5.3 (64 bit). I'm using VMWare 2-node virtual machines and NFS.

  • Business faults defined in fault policies for synchonous processing

    Hi everyone,
    I have an issue I would like to use your knowledge. I am re-throwing business faults from a synchronous process to a calling synchronous client. Instead of the business fault a remote fault is being propagated back to the calling client using SOA suite 11g for synchronous SCA components. This then causes the fault policies to trigger an incorrect policy.
    Please see below what happens and the error returned.
    1. I have created a synchronous process called SynchrnousBusinessFault that invokes another synchronous process called SynchrnousThrowBusinessFault.
    2. The SynchrnousThrowBusinessFault re-throws a business fault when receiving a text 'businessfault'.
    3. The fault is automatically propaged back to the calling client SynchrnousBusinessFault without the use of any CatchAll branch. The error re-thrown is correct see below:
    <bpelFault>
    <faultType>
    <message>1</message>
    </faultType>
    <BusinessFault>
    <part name="payload">
    <BusinessFault>
    <FaultCode>1000</FaultCode>
    <FaultMessage>Own Business Fault</FaultMessage>
    </BusinessFault>
    </part>
    </BusinessFault>
    </bpelFault>
    4. The callback client SynchrnousBusinessFault receives the fault and should trigger the fault policies for the business fault I have created. The business fault in the fault policies look as follow:
    <faultName xmlns:ns1="http://www.businessfault/example"
    name="ns1:BusinessFault">
    <condition>
    <action ref="business-fault-handler"/>
    </condition>
    </faultName>
    <Action id="business-fault-handler">
    <humanIntervention/>
    </Action>
    This business fault is not triggered in the fault policies and instead the remote fault policy. The reason is that after the re-thrown of the fault the business fault is followed by another fault. I don't understand where this remote fault comes from or whatever this is expected behaviour. Please see the fault below.
    I can provide the example SCA component if required.
    Many Thanks for your time.
    Ren

    So that means - only fault originating from invoke activity in BPEL can be associated with a fault policy. No other fault can be associated. Even if I throw a selectionFault from throw activity, that will not be captured. Only fault from invoke activity can be associated with a fault policy.
    Please confirm.

  • Wht is Remote Fault and binding Fault?

    Hi All,
    wht is a Remote Fault and Binding Fault. When these Faults occur.
    can any one explain these,
    <Action id="aia-ora-java">
    <javaAction className="oracle.apps.aia.core.eh.BPELJavaAction" defaultAction="ora-rethrow-fault">
    <returnValue value="REPLAY" ref="ora-terminate"/>

    <returnValue value="ABORT" ref="ora-terminate"/>
    <returnValue value="RETRY" ref="aia-ora-retry"/>
    <returnValue value="MANUAL" ref="ora-human-intervention"/>
    </javaAction>
    wht happens when at rethrow and wht happens at retry?
    I got confused understanding the AIA Error Handling? can any one explain on this?

  • What is the "catchAll for all faults" equivalent in fault-policy.xml

    Hi
    This is regarding the catchAll equivalent tag in fault-policy.xml file
    fault-policy.xml has two sections - Conditions & Actions
    In Conditions, you'll define several <faultName name="XXX"> and corresponding <condition>, <test> & <action ref="">.
    But what I want is, how do you define a condition for all Fault types (something like a catchAll activity)?
    Lets say i need a single condition for all faults, so i want to say
    <conditions>
    <faultName name=*"ALL_FAULT_TYPES"*>
    <condition>
    <!--<test> -- i dont give any test condition here, so that it is applicable for all conditions for this fault type -->
    <action ref="ora-human-intervention">
    </condition>
    </faultName>
    </conditions>
    I've searched documentation, blogs but could not find any.
    Only thing i could find is, if we dont give any <test> tag, that means it is like a catchAll for that particular faultName. I need a similar one, but for all faults.
    Appreciate your response.
    Regards
    RaviKiran.

    Hi Ronald Van,
    what do you mean by this statement .
    Mind: the fault-policy framework catches faults in invocations of (external) services from BPEL, Mediator, etc. Internal BPEL faults such as errored assign activities are >not caught.Is it like faults generated while invoking only will go to faultpolicies ?
    I want to generate a email in case of faults to notify the customer. faultpolicies is working good for remote and binding fault and i am generating mail using java. but in case of selection failure it is not referring to fault policies. So Is generating a email from catchall block is the only solution for this or is there any other way.The problem with catch all block is that the instance state will be completed and my monitoring is affected. I want to generate a email and the process should be in running state . Is there any way?
    Please suggest .
    Thanks in Advance

  • Binding fault vs Runtime fault

    Hi,
    I am trying to do a http post from a bpel process and I want to retry if I get
    connection errors. When I tried running this with invalid URL I am getting
    a 'connection refused' but it is a binding fault and not runtime fault. I am assuming
    this is the reason that 'retry' configuration is not working. Here are the entries
    in bpel.xml
    <partnerLinkBinding name="PartnerLink_1">
    <property name="wsdlLocation">myService.wsdl</property>
    <property name="retryMaxCount">5</property>
    <property name="retryInterval">60</property>
    </partnerLinkBinding>
    So What decides whether it is a binding fault or a runtime fault? Is there anyway
    to get this as a runtime fault instead? If not what is the right way to do retry in
    this scenario?
    Any information will be of great help
    Thanks
    Raj

    I believe retry only works when there is a runtime fault. As for testing the process you can explicitly throw runtime exception using throw activity for test purpose.

  • SQL to retrieve faulted instances and fault reason code for SOA composites

  • Setting SOAPFaultExcepion fault codes and fault detail

    I'm using WLS 7 SP1.
    I'm having a couple of problems with SOAPFaultExceptions in WLS 7 SP1.
    i) The generated web service front end happily wraps SOAP Fault fault string with
    "EJB exception..." and always reports the fault code as "Server"; I believe the
    latter problem is is a known issue.
    ii) In an effort to get around the above problems, I thought I would simply add
    detail entries but to be honest I can't quite figure out how to do it. I thought
    I would create a Detail container via a SOAPFactory and add a detail entry via
    Detail addEntry().
    Am I able to do this with WLS 7 SP1 as is or do I need to use additional SOAP
    libraries (pointers would be appreciated)?
    Thanks.

    In your orchestration, capture the SOAPFault (hope you're already doing this), then in the captured message if you use the XPATH as below, it will capture the ErrorCode and ErrorText from the above shown fault structure.
    sErrorCode = xpath(msgYourSOAFFault,"string(/*[local-name()='Envelope' and namespace-uri()='http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/']/*[local-name()='Body' and namespace-uri()='http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/']/*[local-name()='Fault' and namespace-uri()='http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/']/*[local-name()='detail' and namespace-uri()='']/*[local-name()='errorDetail' and namespace-uri()='http://integration.com/ErrorDetails.xsd']/*[local-name()='Error' and namespace-uri()='http://integration.com/ErrorDetails.xsd']/*[local-name()='ErrorCode' and namespace-uri()='http://integration.com/ErrorDetails.xsd'])");
    //ErrorText
    sErrorText = xpath(msgYourSOAFFault,"string(/*[local-name()='Envelope' and namespace-uri()='http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/']/*[local-name()='Body' and namespace-uri()='http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/']/*[local-name()='Fault' and namespace-uri()='http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/']/*[local-name()='detail' and namespace-uri()='']/*[local-name()='errorDetail' and namespace-uri()='http://integration.com/ErrorDetails.xsd']/*[local-name()='Error' and namespace-uri()='http://integration.com/ErrorDetails.xsd']/*[local-name()='ErrorCode' and namespace-uri()='http://integration.com/ErrorDetails.xsd'])");
    For adding the exception handler for SOAP-Fault, you can either refer the sample in SDK or
    reference this article. And in the exception handler, use the above XPath to capture the ErrorCode and ErrorText.

  • First day on new contract and a fault on the line....

    I never normally bother writing in these forums but wanted to vent my frustrations somewhere after spending hours on the phone to BT and bascially getting no where.
    Have been a BT phone customer for quite a few years and decided to move the broadband to BT in order to get the BT sport channel. The first day that my service was meant to switch providers the phone line is totally dead and obviously no broadband. When I spoke to someone, having spent ages on hold, they tested the line and found a fault. I told them how this happening on the same day as we changed contracts is a coincidence that I fail to accept. They basically said that it was a coincidence and it could take up to a week to fix. I live on a farm and therefore use the phone and internet for work and also have very limited mobile phone reception. If I had known we would have this issue when we changed contracts I'm not sure I would have bothered. We will see how this plays out from now but whilst each individual I spoke to seemed to understand and appreciate my position I basically got no where and on the first day of a new contract with BT I am left deeply unimpressed with the service.

    Hi michaelpearce84,
    Sorry to see you're having some problems switching your broadband over to us.  I can help you sort this out from here.  To get in touch, click on the "about me" section of my profile where you'll see the link to "contact the mods".
    Thanks a million,

  • Faults on BT lines

    Ever since BT was split into several companies there have been issues with phone line fault fixing - the standard reply from the call centre is that it will take three working days to fix.   The call centre will often tell you that they will chase the call, however the people that say this are effectively lying to you - after several frustrating calls with the call centre for a previous fault the operative admitted that they dont have a method to contact OpenReach directly (they manage the exchanges and deal with faults).   All the call centre can do is submit requests to some sort of IT system used by OpenReach - they have no way of getting hold of the OpenReach people.   The nett result of this is that OpenReach are totally unaccountable.
    I have a fault open at the moment (no dial tone although BB, via a different company, but on the BT line works) which the fault system says is probably down to an issue in the exchange - no sh1t sherlock !   Electrical cables (which is effectively what the phone system in this country uses) don't suddenly fall apart - if the fault is at the exchange then its more likely that someone was doing maintenance at the exchange and has inadvertently broken something on my line.   If thats the case why do I have to wait three working days to get a fix ?  Why dont openreach work at the weekends ?
    I guess this is what sort of service you get from a monopoly company - the only real alternative to BT is Virgin Media (if you happen to be in a cabled area).  Even broadband is only basically available from BT and Virgin (all the other providers rely on BT lines for the service) so you're stuck with what is to be frank a third rate service.   God help you if the line is connected to something important - like a medical alarm.
    Ian

    The reason they always say three days is that Openreach's standard time to fix faults is within three working days.  They may fix it sooner.  As you said, the phone operators have no visibility on what Openreach are actually doing, so they just quote the 3 days , and hope.
    Occasionally, they fail to meet the three days deadline, in which case you should be able to claim a refund on any line rental for the period in which you're getting no service.

  • Fault on line, what's classed as the boundary

    Does anyone know what's classed as the boundary as I have a fault on my line and can't make outgoingf calls. I can't see any problems so I'm wondering if the Demarcation point is classed as mine or BT's. The one in my house looks as if it;s from the 1930s as it Bakelite and i've never seen one like it..any one know ...

    'BUT. B U T. If there is a problem with the line between your boundary and the master socket and you require a BT engineer to visit to repair any part of this, there is a good chance you will get a bill for £127.99. This appears to be standard proceedure for BT Retail, and it is because BT Openreach bill BT Retail for the engineers time, and BT just want to pass the cost on.'
    Very common misconception with customers, used to wind me it something cronic when I worked in the call centre, just because an engineer had to come into their house they thought they would be charged regardless of what the fault is when that couldn't be any further from the truth. Even if the fault is a network one the engineer probably still needs access to do line tests and get fault distance measurements from the NTE5a.
    Openreach will only charge if the customer damages the line within the boundary of their property, i.e. if they cut the lead in wire. If say the capacitor in the NTE5a was faulty through old age, remember telephone lines are just electrics at the end of the day and like all electrical things they have a shelf life.
    Basically an engineer will only charge if;
    1. You broke the line, even by accident.
    2. The fault is proved to be with your own internal wiring or anything you have plugged in, that includes BT Vision Boxes or Home Hubs because they are supplied by BT Retail and not Openreach.
    3. If you call an engineer out for no reason whatsoever, but this should never happen because SP's shouldn't go making appointments for no reason.

  • RunInstaller line 132: Segmentation fault $CMDIR/install/.oui formCluster

    Hi There,
    I'm trying to install Grid infrastructure on a VM and I'm encountering the error below.
    ./runInstaller line 132: 3564 Segmentation fault $CMDIR/install/.oui $* -formCluster
    Machine's details:
    Vmware Infrastructure
    Oracle Linux server release 6.2 - 32 bit
    Grid Infrastructure 11.2 for 32-bit
    and "free -m" shows "3523"(free) as swap.
    I did go through the Document ID 1328616.1 and it did not help. Some posts suggested that it could be an issue with the swap space, I also tried adding more swap space and it did not help either. Please advise.
    Thanks

    06823 14:51:25 (0) ** => This error is typically a WMI error. This WMI error is due to:
    06824 14:51:25 (0) **    - a missing WMI class definition or object.
    06825 14:51:25 (0) **      (See any GET, ENUMERATION, EXECQUERY and GET VALUE operation failures).
    06826 14:51:25 (0) **      You can correct the missing class definitions by:
    06827 14:51:25 (0) **      - Manually recompiling the MOF file(s) with the 'MOFCOMP <FileName.MOF>' command.
    06828 14:51:25 (0) **      Note: You can build a list of classes in relation with their WMI provider and MOF file with WMIDiag.
    06829 14:51:25 (0) **            (This list can be built on a similar and working WMI Windows installation)
    06830 14:51:25 (0) **            The following command line must be used:
    06831 14:51:25 (0) **            i.e. 'WMIDiag CorrelateClassAndProvider'
    06832 14:51:25 (0) **      Note: When a WMI performance class is missing, you can manually resynchronize performance counters
    06833 14:51:25 (0) **            with WMI by starting the ADAP process.
    06834 14:51:25 (0) **    - a WMI repository corruption.
    06835 14:51:25 (0) **      In such a case, you must rerun WMIDiag with 'WriteInRepository' parameter
    06836 14:51:25 (0) **      to validate the WMI repository operations.
    06837 14:51:25 (0) **    Note: ENSURE you are an administrator with FULL access to WMI EVERY namespaces of the computer before
    06838 14:51:25 (0) **          executing the WriteInRepository command. To write temporary data from the Root namespace, use:
    06839 14:51:25 (0) **          i.e. 'WMIDiag WriteInRepository=Root'
    06840 14:51:25 (0) **    - If the WriteInRepository command fails, while being an Administrator with ALL accesses to ALL namespaces
    06841 14:51:25 (0) **      the WMI repository must be reconstructed.
    06842 14:51:25 (0) **    Note: The WMI repository reconstruction requires to locate all MOF files needed to rebuild the repository,
    06843 14:51:25 (0) **          otherwise some applications may fail after the reconstruction.
    06844 14:51:25 (0) **          This can be achieved with the following command:
    06845 14:51:25 (0) **          i.e. 'WMIDiag ShowMOFErrors'
    06846 14:51:25 (0) **    Note: The repository reconstruction must be a LAST RESORT solution and ONLY after executing

    A Wmiprvse.exe process crashes in Windows Server 2008 R2 when you use the WMI interface to query the hardware status on a computer that supports the IPMI standard

    I saw this in my googling.  Listed as the cause on the hotfix page is the following: "This
    problem occurs because the Ipmiprv.dll module leads the Wmiprvse.exe process to crash. This behavior depends on certain hardware sensor types when the sensor is enumerated."  The
    faulting module for that hotfix is ipmiprv.dll, and our faulting module is ntdll.dll.  I'm thinking that this hotfix isn't applicable, but I'm open to hearing why I'm incorrect if I am.
