BT lost all my files in BT Cloud through their err...

In July of this year I received a notice from BT that it was going to suspend my BT Cloud storage because I had not paid a subscription renewal. I immediately telephoned them and told them I did not have a pay account but just used the free 5gb account, within my BT Account. I was told to ignore the notice, all would be well. In August BT duly closed my free BTiCloud account because of non payment of the free programme and deleted all my files. I immediately contacted them again and after several attempts a Cloud Technical Team technician was able to recover the files they had deleted. Entry for BT Cloud was previously through my BT account and thus secure by password, but now it is inoperable because of a 'technical issue' so the only way I can use it is via an icon on my Desktop. BT could only arrange the Desktop icon via a Remote Access process that took an hour over the telephone to set up. However, this means I have no security at all. I have to be very careful about what I can put into BT Cloud. Surely this is not right, but what can I do about it?

Non of the music went back into Itunes, so I had to find these files and manually moved them to Itunes. The music is now in Itunes, but I no longer have the folder named My Library, which I think is the reason my Ipad, ipod no longer sync any additional music I have added to Itunes. Does anyone know how to rectify this please.

iTunes expects files and folders to be in very specific locations. When you start iTunes it looks for a file called library.itl which is in the iTunes folder. It then uses all the references in that file which tell it where all your media files are located to build up the view you normally see. Probably you moved the library file so iTunes cannot find it and it will make a default one which is empty. When you plug in your iPod it isn't recognizing the library since it is not the same one to which you synced last.
Simply put, you need to undo all your file moves. Not as eaily done as stated but since I cannot quite see from here exactly what you spent an hour doing last night it will be up to you. Did you make a backup before doing all this?

Dock folders are only links to the actual folders which should be located in your user folder.
Open a finder window andf click on your name. Then yo'll get a list of all your folders which are located there. Standrad should be eight folders: desktop, movies, pictures, music, websites, public, downloads and documents.
When you click on that one, is it still empty?

I lost all my files (photo, music, documents, ect), but they still show on the Mac HD.

My wife created a new account from our joint admin account. She also made that second account an admin. account. Then she went into the new account and played around with the file sharing option in system prefereneces. She was unable to get the accounts to share, so she deleted the new account and restarted the computer. Now, our first/main admin. account has lost all the files. There are no documents, photos or media in the origianl admin account. However, when I go into finder and click "get info" on the Mac HD, it still shows that 300GB are used. I understand this to mean that the lost files are still on the HD. But I am unable to figure out how to get them back onto our user account. Can anyone help me?

If you don't have them backed up somewhere, then there's little possibility of recovering them. There are some utilities that can in some cases recover an inadvertently-deleted photo, but I've found none that can recover photos or other data from an iPad that was erased as part of an iOS upgrade. You can do a web search for something like "iPhone photo recovery" and you'll find some utilities you can try.

Music is intended to go from your computer to the iPod. Going the other way is contrary to the design and is not trivial. To extract music from your iPod requires the assistance of third party utilities.
If you purchased music from the iTunes Store, no worries, you can simply download it again with the one caveat that the music is still available in the Store.

Where were you storing your contacts? In the cloud? In outlook? Synch them back from wherever they were being stored.

I am a long time iTunes user but a new MacBook owner! I keep the majority of my music files on an external hard drive. I'm trying to view all those files on my MacBook through iTunes. With windows you would go to : File/Add To Library, and iTunes would add all your selected files to your music library BUT WOULD NOT COPY THEM TO YOUR HARD DRIVE. In other words, if the external hard drive was connected, you could listen, drag/drop, and edit the files. When I tried the same thing with my new MacBook... it actually started coping the files to my MacBook harddrive. I don't want that, it's millions and millions of mp3's that I don't want to keep on my computer, only my external hard drive. Can anyone help? Lost all Control files (Want to Recover)

I have a database in archive log mode and we take a rman hot backup everyday. We are not using the recovery catalog. I lost all the control files
few days ago. I have a control file to trace and that was generated 20 days ago. This is our test database. I want to recover it. I don't know if we have
done any physical changes or not after the creation of this text file to create a control file. Database is still up and running.
Any help will be appreciated?

If the control is restored from the rman backup lets say it is 3 days old, then how to update the same control file with the current database statistics.

Unless the files were dumped in the Trash unintentionally, your files are still on your computer, somewhere. It's pretty easy to put files or folders in places without knowing it, but there is a good technique to find your data.'
Think over a file or folder whose name is familiar. Then, press Cmd-Space at the same time, which brings up Spotlight - the easiest way to locate files, folders, history, and much more. If you end up with a blank the first time, try again until you have a hit. If you have a hit, note the location of the files/folder; it's likely that all of your lost documents are in the same place.

HELP I seem to have lost all my files after turning on Filevault

im completly new to all things Mac, everything has been great so far but now i seem to have lost everything.
I turned on Filevault protection then shutdown my Macbook, came back to it a couple of hours later and now all of my files, itunes music files have gone, all of the settings and preferences seem to be back to the factory settings, and well everything has dissapeared?!! any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have no idea how Apple would handle this. I would hope they would tell you to go into an Apple store and have someone there look at it and fix it. That would be very good advice. Trying to fix a problem like this over the phone would be really hard.
Clearly, your system is no longer mounting your sparseimage file the way it should. The good part of this is that your files are still relatively safe inside that sparseimage. I would not try to turn filevault on or off again. That could be dangerous. Your goal now is backup.
In the terminal, you can type "open /Users/.stuartcampbell/stuartcampbell.sparseimage" to mount that disk image as a new volume. Hopefully, you can log in as "stuart campbell" and do this. That would be really good. If you can, log in as "stuart campbell", open that disk image, and copy all the files you find into a new folder named "saved files" under the "/Users/Shared" folder. You want to get your files out of that sparseimage and into the real file system.
Once you get your files out, you can try to turn filevault off again. My hunch is that FileVault is already off. I think your system has created a new home directory for you named "stuart campbell1" because the old one was corrupted. If this is so, you can safely copy all your files from the sparse image into this new account, overwriting anything you already have. (Just make real sure that your current home directory really is just blank data!!!). At this point, you should be running again, with your home directory being named "stuart campbell1".
If all this is true, try the following. Rename that old "/Users/stuart campbell" folder to /Users/stuart campbell.old". You can run NetInfo, go into "Users", and change your home directory back to "stuart campbell". Then, before doing anything else, rename "stuart campbell1" back to "stuart campbell". Save your NetInfo changes, quit, logout, cross your fingers, and log back in.
I realize this is very complicated and more than you really want to do. I don't see any way around it. It is very difficult to know exactly what state your system is in and exactly what is going to work and what won't. A trip to the Apple Store or a similar place might be a good idea. I say might because there is no guarantee they can fix it either. There are still way too many steps that say "If this works" and "try this".
There are some key things to remember and do in any case. Try to open that disk image and get your files out.
Don't fiddle with any account security settings until your files are out of there.
Once your data is secure (or rather - in a safe place), you can feel free to fiddle with account settings and swap out those directories to get back to a good state. I can assure you that it will take a bit of fiddling and may not work at all. Just get your files out there and we can get you up to speed again after that.

I lost all my apps/music as well upgrading to 5.0 on an IPAD 2. I synced up to Itunes before upgrading but all those files were lost as well. Fortunately I saved my photos/videos separately on an external hard drive. The rest of the apps, music, in app buys, books, etc were all recoverable as the App store (and others) had a list of everything I had purchased previously and I just had to re-install/load them.
