Bt mouse and keyboard not discoverable on new computer............

i have had the bt mouse and keyboard on my powerbook for a while now; no problems. it is still paired with them. then i got a new imac and i can not seem to get them to connect. i don't seem to have a problem with bt because i can connect to my phone. it also sees the keyboard and mouse but will not connect. any thoughts? do i need to delete the pairing on my laptop to get it to work on the imac?
thanks

Hello md:
Since your iMac is new, I suggests you call Applecare, tell them you have a warranty issue, and have them run you through more troubleshooting steps (I think that will save you time in the end).
Barry
P.S. I do not think that being paired to your powerbook should affect anything - especially if it is off.

  • Brand new IMac 27 bluetooth mouse and keyboard not connecting for eight minutes after start up.

I have a new imac 27 that has worked flawlessly for three weeks.
All of a sudden, when starting up the mac boots fine but the bluetooth mouse and keyboard are non responsive. This state is maintained for between 7 and 8 minutes then both mouse and keyboard start working and continue doing so for the rest of the day....until the next restart and the whole saga repeats itself.
Both sets of batteries are fully charged.
I have scoured different sites and tried any suggestion that made any sense, to no avail. All I am able to do at the moment is to do the time, wait the 7 to 8 mins. and then all's good.
My first Mac and this is very annoying especially as Apple must be aware of this issue but no solution is forthcoming!
    Any suggestions/workarounds would be great.
    Thanks

if you are using rechargeable batteries sometimes they don't stay charged for as long as they should try using alkalaine batteries and see if the issue still persists.

  • Bluetooth Mighty Mouse and Keyboard not working in Win XP!

    Hi All,
I simply cannot get my Bluetooth Mighty Mouse and Keyboard to work in Win XP via Bootcamp! The bluetooth icon appears in the tray and even shows that they are connected but they do nothing at all. One thing to note is that they show up as connected but with no password. Could this be the problem? If I reconnected the two with new passcodes for XP, would they still work when I reboot in OSX?

upgrading to vista sorted things out!

  • USB mouse and keyboard not working

    Any advice/thoughts/suggestions appreciated:
All 3 USB ports at the back of my iMac have stopped working.  This means I can't use either a keyboard or mouse, so have no way of logging in.  I turn my iMac on, it boots up as usual, but when it gets to the login screen, the mouse and keyboard don't work and I get a message about bluetooth set-up. (Both my mouse and keyboard are wired, not bluetooth).
I have tried an SMC reset (by turning the iMac off, unplugging all USB devices and the power cable, leaving the iMac for a few minutes and then plugging the cable back in a turning it on again).  This didn't work.
I've also tried a different version of the SMC reset where I hold down the power button whilst all the cables are unplugged and also as I plug the power cable back in.  After doing this, the fan turns on at full speed (v loud), but the mouse and keyboard still don't work.
I've also checked my mouse on a different computer and it works fine.
Has anyone got any other suggestions / workarounds?
Note I can't do a PRAM reset because my keyboard doesn't work.
Is it probably that the USB hardwear has failed?  If so, is it possible to repair this?  It is worth repairing given it is a 5/6 year old iMac (the white plastic one) which is probably on its last legs anyway?
    many thanks!
    Jez.

Try the SMC reset again, only this time wait 5 minutes in set 3 instead of fifteen seconds.
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds. 5 minutes.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

dbus and hal enabled in deamons
this lines instruct xorg to use xf86-input-mouse/keyboard instead of evdev. ie it looks like with evdev there is no point in xf86-input-mouse/keyboard

  • Wireless mouse and keyboard not recognized

I know that I have had this issue before, but can't remember what the solution is (old age?) My iMac G5 PPC has a wireless mouse and keyboard (the old apple white one). The iMac came with these as an option but WITHOUT the bluetooth card inside. (I still don't know how this works, but it does). Anyway, the mouse and keyboard were not recognized when I tried to get on today. The batteries are good. If I go to system prefs (using an even older wired mouse) there is no bluetooth option (since no card is present). I don't know how to get the computer to try to recognize both. Any help is definitely appreciated.

    HI David,
If the iMac didn't come with Bluetooth software/hardware, then are you using a USB Bluetooth dongle?
    And open System Profile (Applications/Utilities)
Select Bluetooth on the left under Hardware. You may need to click the gray disclosure triangle so it faces down. What does it say on the right?
If the Bluetooth icon is in your Status Menu Bar (top right in your screen). Click the icon and make sure Bluetooth is turned on. Then click: Open Bluetooth Preferences and try re-pairing the mouse and keyboard.

  • USB mouse and keyboard not responding

I had a power outage yesterday and my iMac was on. I have since tried to start it and my keyboard and mouse are not responding and I get a message that the date on my computer has gone back to before March of 2001. I need help, my hardware warranty just expired and I really don't want to take in it and have to pay $100! Also I put in my start up CD and now I can't get it to eject. Please HELP!!!!!

Does the keyboard and mouse work after the computer boots up? Try unplugging them and plugging them back in. Make sure to plug them in directly to the computer. If it still is not working try the mouse and the keyboard separately one at a time. Look to see is the caps light comes on the keyboard and look to see if the mouse lights up. To set the date and time go to your System Preferences/Date & Time and put a check in the box that says Set date and time automatically(assuming you are connected to the internet). If you can get this far go to System Preferences/Startup Disk and select the install disk as your startup disk and click restart. When it boots up to the disk, instead of going through the installation, click on Utilities at the top and run Disk Utility on your hard drive.

    Hi All,
I just install yesterday Windows 7 (Ultimate 64bits) by Bootcamp in my iMac 21" (bought in 2013).
During the installation, the Mighty Mouse and the keyboard were not working (except the first W7 screens, selecting partition and language), and now, installation finished, i got to use an external keyboard to select username and password, because Mighty Mouse and Wireless Keyboard are not working with Windows.
I restart the computer using OSX and both are working fine.
    Could you please help me?

  • LENOVO Z51 MOUSE AND KEYBOARD NOT WORKING AT SAME TIME

I know this question has been asked before, but those solutions do not work for me. I just got my new Lenovo z51 80k60030us and I quickly put a game on it just to test out the waters. ran well. However, I can't move (use the keyboard) and look around (use the mouse) at the same time. I looked all over the internet and understood that it has something to do with "palm tracking" however no one had the solution for my specific mouse/keyboard issue. when I try and change the options under the lenovo mouse, it is grayed out. I tried everything to ungray it, but I have yet to succeed. help please??

Bluetooth Problems on Yosemite (Solution: 'Turn Wifi Off' then on again)
If you can not connect/reconnect your bluetooth devices, try "Turn Wifi Off".  It seems to 'wake up' the bluetooth and then my devices reconnect.
In my case, after sleep/wake of my MacBook, my bluetooth keyboard & speaker would NOT reconnect.  When I 'Turn Wifi Off" my bluetooth starts working again and my bluetooth keyboard & speaker immediately reconnect.  I also read on some non-Apple.com forum that sometimes 'Turn Wifi Off' on yosemite makes bluetooth start working again. Other times, 'Turn Wifi Off' followed by 'Turn Wifi' On makes bluetooth start working again.
In my case, whenever I can not get my bluetooth devices to connect/reconnect to my MacBook, I simply "Turn Wifi Off" and it immediately connects.
Please REPLY to the following post if 'Turn Wifi Off' fixes your bluetooth connect/reconnect problems!
    >>> Reply here >>> Bluetooth Problems on Yosemite (Solution: 'Turn Wifi Off' then on again)
    Thank You.
P.S. I'm guessing that with the 'Handoff a.k.a. Continuity' enhancements to Yosemeti, which uses Bluetooth to dynamically enable iOS devices to coordinate workflows with MacBooks, that Handoff's dynamic explolitation of bluetooth behind the scenes, which introduces a somewhat new style of load/usage on Bluetooth, that it has messed up the way Bluetooth is managed in Yosemite.  I'm guessing that Apple is aware of this and will fix it eventually.  Until then, "Turn Wi-Fi Off" seems to do the trick for me when I want to 'wake up' my MacBook's bluetooth and get my external devices connected again.

  • Wireless Mouse and keyboard have lost connectivity with iMac?

Computer turned off for a week. Restarted, and wireless mouse and keyboard no longer connected to computer. Help please

    Hello Pompoo220s,
It is certainly difficult to use the computer if your wireless keyboard and mouse do not connect or stay connected.  I found a few resources I recommend for this issue.
I recommend reviewing this article first:
Troubleshooting wireless mouse and keyboard issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3048
If the issue persists, I recommend reviewing the section titled "Top troubleshooting tips" in the article below.  Step 9 specifically stands out to me for the issue you described:
    9. Restart your computer
Sometimes a simple restart of your Mac is all it takes to get things running smoothly again. You may also want to try resetting your computer's PRAM and NVRAM.
    Bluetooth Quick Assist

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Bluetooth mouse and keyboard do not work

I purchased an iMac G5 about 6 months ago. I got it with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. I have had trouble with it from day 1. Apple had me replace the logic unit, and it worked for a couple of weeks. Then as soon as the 90-day warranty for complimentary service ran out, it began working sporadically. Now it doesn't work at all. It says I don't have a bluetooth module installed or attached to my computer (which is what it said before the logic unit was replaced. The computer works fine with a USB mouse and keyboard. Had I known bluetooth was so tempermental and difficult, I sure wouldn't have got it with my computer.
Unless there is a smart person out there who knows what is going on, I guess I need to buy a new USB keyboard and mouse. Anybody interested in buying a bluetooth keyboard and mouse cheap?

    Russell,
The warranty period on your mac is 1 year. The complimentry phone service period is 90 days unless you have a hardware problem. I'd say you likely have a hardware problem and will not be charged for the phone call.
    I'd suggest 2 things:
    1. Sign up for Applecare as has been recommended countless times.
    2. Make the call to tech support and see what they say about your problem.
    Good Luck,
    John

  • TS3048 I am usng a bluetooth keyboard with my Mac and some of the keys are not working.  They are the numbers 1 through  9.  I have gone through the troubleshooting for mouse and keyboard and everything looks good. How can I get them to work again?

Hi,  I am using a Mac computer that my husband set up.  I have worked on it recently with no problems.  Today, I am having problems with the bluetooth keyboard not  working properly.  The numbers 1 through 9 do not work.  I have gone through troubleshooting wireless mouse and keyboard issues and everything looks good.  Except, when I check the keys on the keyboard viewer, these keys still do not work.  The webpage guides me through and at this point I do not know what to do next, because the keyboard is still not working properly.  I sure hope there are some experienced people in the community to help me.  What should I do?

    Hi:
I wish my suggestion had gotten you further.
I do suggest you try to connect the keyboard again.  The request for a number is a step in it trying to pair.  If it gets by the number, it sometimes takes a little while to get connected.  If you are unable to get it connected and want a new one, I have been using Apple Bluetooth keyboards for years - and I like them. The one I have (the newest model) only uses two batteries and is very thin.
Speaking of batteries, if you are not already doing so, you might consider rechargeables.  I have a drawer full of them and use a 15 minute charger.  I go tired of buying batteries and rechargeables are environmentally friendly to boot. At the moment, I use 2450 mAh Energizers and a 15 minute Energizer charger (all purchased new on eBay at a very reasonable price).
I am far from an iPad "expert," although I have one.  If my suggestion below does not help, post your question in a separate thread in the iPad forum.
I had a terrible time syncing my iCal on my Mac with my iPad iCal (confusing - hopefully it makes sense).  I quit using iCloud as that added to the confusion. There is a facility to one-time sync items.  When you connect your computer to your iPad, iTunes opens.  The system begins a process (automatic backup and so on). After it finishes, you can click on "info."  At the bottom of the screen, there is an advanced section.  You can select any of the items and then force it to sync. The iCal information from your computer would be deposited on the iPad.
After all that, I do not use a Google calendar so the information may be worthless to you.
If you want to reset the iPad to factory settings, you can do that when it is connected to iTunes (one of the options).  Me being me, I try never to erase anything.
